building. well, good tuesday morning to you all. thank you for being here, i'm t.j. holmes. >> i'm reena ninan. we begin with violent storms spawning tornados. >> this is the massive 800-mile long weather system, threatening the gulf coast and the midwest. this dramatic photo was captured in alabama. that bolt of lightning seemingly to split open the heavens. it set the day for a day of defation. seven tornados killed two people in arkansas and alabama. in burnwell, alabama, a 75-year-old woman was crushed by a degree that fell on top of her mobile home. >> i tried everything i could to get her out. but there was a tree on top of her. >> and near the city of ashtown, arkansas, a father was killed

and his family rushed to the hospital after the home was levelled. the national weather service was on sight assessing the strength. >> i think an ef-2. the main determination was the mobile home right behind me that was pretty much demolished. >> and louisiana, now under a state of emergency, trees uprooted, pour lines dangling. and a photographer snapped this image in tennessee. north to belleville, illinois. crews out cleaning up after drenching rain and wind-downed trees wrecked the roof of a home in this development. >> very traumatic to walk up and see the back of your house pretty much demolish and the rain continuing to pour down. it's just a sadness. >> all this weather heading east. millions of americans and several major cities from the gulf coast to the great lakes are right in its path. and, again, that system this morning, covering nearly a third

of the country and on the move. >> jim dickey joins us now. >> good morning. the threat for severe weather continues today. shifting further eastward, down towards the florida panhandle. stretching to the coast. large hail, torrential rain and flash flooding. and hurricane head towards puerto rico. and going bring tremendous rainfall. 4 to 8 inches. continuing to strengthen, not going to be an impact to the united states. breaking overnight. a powerful earthquake shook stra america. the 7.4 underwaesht quake hit off of the coast of elsa salvador. in the city of san miguel in the eastern part of el salvador, tremors could be felt along the coast. and from guantanamo to costa

rica. new images of a young texas nurse infected with ebola. nina pham is in good spirits. but it's a mystery how she got the disease after caring for thomas eric duncan who died. and we have tahman bradley. >> reporter: she is isolated in stable condition after receiving a blood transfusion from ebola survivor dr. kent brantley. >> she's doing well and feeling well. >> reporter: the 26-year-old nurse, the first person in the u.s. to contract ebola was among 80 health care workers who treated thomas eric duncan who died last week. they don't know how she became infected and worry about more cases. >> if this one individual was infected and we don't know now, then it is possible that other individuals could have been infected as well. >> reporter: as a precaution, one of her close friends and her

bog having placed in quarantine. and on the job, she wore protective gear, a gown, a face mask and shield, two layers of glove. but this is less than doctors in biocontainment hospitals, taping to sleeves and boots. some authorities wonder if they should require them to be sent to, special hospital president. >> montana, nebraska, georgia, maryland. they have been practicing for just this kind of event for years. >> reporter: regular hospitals are practicing too. reviewing procedures and protecting health care professionals. an experimental vaccine is being tested in maryland. officials in canada say it's proven 100% effective on animals. today president obama attends a summit outside washington with defense ministers of 20 countries.

the goal? find new ways to combat isis as fighters close in on baghdad despite intense u.s.-led air strikes. martha raddatz has the latest. >> reporter: it's alarming how close they are to baghdad. infiltrating the towns and cities and have sunni supporters who are dissatisfied with the iraqi government. this is despite hundreds of u.s. air strikes, more than a thousand bombs dropped. the u.s. called in apache attack helicopters to protect the airport. the chairman of the joint chiefs saying that iraqi security forces were overrun about 12 miles from the airport. and if the apaches hadn't been called in, it was a straight shot to the arraignment. but the chairman is confident isis will not take baghdad itself. but it's clear that isis has a presence there with the number of suicide bombings increasing.
