the public health drama over ebola is growing louder. three schools in texas and two in ohio are closed today. >> two staff members at those schools were on a plane with amber vinson. and now the entire situation is under scrutiny after a slew of short comings unfolded. >> we have live coverage, tahman bradley at the white house. we begin with john ehrlichmann in dallas. good morning to you, john. >> reporter: good morning. now that you have two people who have contracted ebola at this hospital, health officials are stepping up their efforts to contain the virus. amber joy vinson walked off the plane last night after hitching a ride on this high-tech biocontainment play. now in isolation at emory hospital. the 29-year-old is the second dallas nurse to catch ebola after treating thomas eric

dunc duncan, who died last week. she had close contact, inserting catheters and drawing blood. especially troubling, she flew to cleveland to visit family and back to dallas before she knew she had the disease. the cdcered, giving her permission to fly after a temperature of 99.5, but lower than the 100.4. >> she would not have traveled on a commercial airline. >> reporter: although the risk is extremely low, air travelers in general are uneasy. >> it's making you wonder, is it safe to even get on any of these planes going, you know, anywhere. >> reporter: meanwhile, another of duncan's nurses, nina pham, remains at this texas hospital. her condition continuing to improve. health officials there investigating how the two became

infected. that number expected to climb. >> this month has been a nightmare for nurses across the nation. >> reporter: duncan's medical records reveal he has been in the hospital two days before they switched to hazmat suits. continuing to monitor the travel of people who may had have had exposure to ebola. and city workers have been getting the word out to the community. >> what about the commercial plane she was on. what's to come of it? >> reporter: we know that it is in denver at the international airport there. it has been cleaned three times. will go through a fourth cleaning process, removing the seat cover and the carpeting around where she was sitting and we know from a statement that the crew is on a paid leave now for 21 days. >> john, live in dallas. thank you so much this morning. questions about how ebola is being handled putting pressure

on the cdc and the obama administration. >> president obama is rearraigning his schedule to get ahead of the crisis. >> reporter: after the second nurse tested positive for obama -- or for ebola, president obama brought together the team to get a more aggressive response to the disease. and today at the white house, more emergency meetings. president obama canceled political events outside washington so he can oversee the government's response to ebola. yesterdayed president huddled behind closed doors with his cabinet. >> we are monitoring, supervising, overseeing in a much more aggressive way exactly what's taking place in dallas initially and making sure the lessons learned are then transmitted to hospitals and clinics across the country. >> reporter: mr. obama ordered the cdc to deploy medical s.w.a.t. teams within 24 hours to any hospital with a new case of ebola. this in addition to screening

people at airports. but the country is nervous. 65% of americans are concerned about an epidemic. the president tried to reassure the public. >> i want to use myself as an example. i shook hands, hugged and kissed not the doctors, but a couple of the nurses at emory. and i felt perfectly safe. >> reporter: more and more law makers are calling for the president to institute a travel ban to and from west africa. in a statement, house speaker john boehner said a temporary ban on travel to the united states from countries with the virus is something the president should absolutely consider. along with other appropriate actions as doubts about the security of air travel systems grow. a senior executive from the hospital where ebola patient thomas eric duncan died plans to apologize for mistakes. >> tahman bradley live in washington. thanks. and a wild ride on wall

amber vinson, the second nurse diagnosed is now being treated at emory university hospital in atlanta. >> the frontier airlines plane she travelled on the day before showing symptoms is being decontamina decontaminated. president obama has canceled plans to travel today in order to monitor the situation. >> we have learned that dr. kent brantly, who survived, has not been asked to donate to amber vinson. >> he donated to nina pham and others, but not to thomas eric duncan because they were incompatible. dr. richard besser asked him about his helping in this situation. >> it's a small thing to give some blood that may benefit in saving someone else's life. >> do you think it works? >> i think it's not harmful. and in theory, should have benefit.
