and good friday morning to you all, i'm t.j. holmes. >> i'm reena ninan. and we see nina pham. she was flown from texas, but they released video of her to the doctor in reasonably good spirits. >> party, thank you for being part of the volunteer team to take care of our first patient. >> don't cry, don't cry. we're really -- >> i love you guys. >> there were tears all around. nina pham, appreciative of the care, no longer in dallas. she was flown overnight to maryland. >> we are covering all angles. we begin with tahman bradley at the national institutes of health in maryland. how is nina pham doing right now? >> reporter: well, good morning.

over night nina pham arrived at the nih, traveling from dallas. we are told she is in good condition. this is a specialized facility where she will get all the care that she needs. there's a large isolation area for her here as well as infectious disease experts. she left texas presbyterian hospital because they are overwhelmed by the ebola scare. they don't have enough health professionals to care for her. she arrived in a special plane. she was taken offer wearing special protective gear and put in an ambulance and brought here before she left dallas. they gave her a big sendoff. shouting outside the hospital. and there were tears. and we saw nina pham for the first time since she got sick in the bedroom in dallas. she was smiling, looked well, and joked that she wishes they could follow her up to maryland to continue showering her with

love. and the second nurse is at a similar facility in atlanta, getting the care she needs. health care officials are monitoring 70 people who came in contact with thomas eric duncan before he died last week. >> tahman bradley there at the nih. thank you so much. and now to dallas and the new information about the other infected nurse. there's no concern about when amber vinson felt symptoms. >> and we have john with the details. >> her family saying she is in stable condition. while a nurse, she followed the protocols. but you're right. new indications she may have been ill before she made that flight to cleveland. amber vinson, the second nurse to contract ebola at a dallas hospital was apparently unwell as early as friday before she flew from dallas to cleveland. the cdc reaching out to passengers on the flight as well

as her flight back to dallas. >> your risk is as close as it can be. amber vinson was not having the symptoms that put you at risk. >> reporter: it intensifies. and another nurse explaining the scene inside the hospital. >> this is what makes me so upset right here. her neck is hanging out. >> reporter: proesident obama i open to appointing a czar. >> i may appoint a person. >> reporter: and the president is not convinced of stopping travelers from west africa. >> the problem is with all the discussions i have had thus far with experts in the field, experts in infectious disease, is that a travel ban is less effective than the measures that we are currently instituting. >> reporter: the emergence of ebola in america has sparked concern across the country. at coming attractions bridal

shop, the owner says employees are too afraid to return to work even show she was fine. >> there was no coughing, sneezing. nothing like that. >> reporter: and so bottom line, the cdc is reaching out to the people, not just on the flight from cleveland to dallas, but the people on the initial flight as well. back over to you. >> okay. thanks so much. three texas schools are closed because students were on the same flight. >> family of four from benton, texas, returned from cleveland to dallas on the flight. the schools their children attended are being disinfected and the buses even though they didn't ride them. the family has agreed to remain in isolation for 21 days. and we have heard from the fiance of thomas duncan who died in dallas. she's thanking the executive of the hospital for calling to apologize for not saving his life. she's grateful he took

responsibility. she said that god will be the judge and that she will remain, she will not demand vengeance. and we will have later this half hour. and the latest on the ebola scare on "good morning america." and an embarrassing incident for the vice president's family. joe biden's youngest son, hunt, kicked out of the navy after testing positive for cocaine. he expressed regret for the discharge in january. he was a commissioned officer in the navy reserve since may of last year. he's a lawyer and former lobbyist who's now a partner at an investment firm. hurricane gonzalo bearing down on bermuda. they have barely recovered from tropical storm faye. now bracing for the more dangerous gonzalo to pound the island today. and jim dickey is tracking that and the storm in hawaii. >> good morning.

conditions downhill through the day in bermuda as the major hurricane moves off to the west. not expecting a direct land fall. but the eastern eye wall going to move over the island. talking major structural damage, power outages, waves over 25 feet, storm surge over 10 feet. dangerous situation. and tracking ana towards hawaii into the weekend as well. back to you. >> all right, jim, thank you so much. after advancing on a syrian city near the border of turkey, isis fighters are retreating. u.s. and coalition forces launched more than a dozen air strikes, forcing them back. kurdish forces are in control of the city, but more than a thousand civilians reportedly trapped. and the fire ball over northeastern brazil was a meteor. it was visible, and residents blew up social media with video.

transportation systems are safe and the hospitals are prepared? >> we're in the early phases of this. and one thing the cdc has done well is contact tracing. they have been able to keep track of everyone who's been exposed to that one index patient we saw, duncan early on. and very good records as to who came into contact with them. as long as that surveillance keeps up, we never have to worry about our fratrains. we have to never worry about the schools themselves. this is the crucial step, this is the first line and need to hold it. >> is this alarmist? people self-quarantining themselves. >> on the outside, might seem like a few more precautions, but what you're talking about if someone's quarantining themselves, that's time not at work. shut down a school, kids aren't getting educated. you have to draw the line and say this is what we can
