live double scan and radar giving us a real good live image that of light spotty stuff. cape may county picking up some of this. looks like that one in chester county is getting ready to push into parts of montgomery county. you're starting to see that there. bucks county a little damp. everybody else beginning to dry out but there might be a bit of moisture still left over on the roads particularly where some leaves have blown onto the asphalt so be careful of that. the wide view on satellite shows you that the cloud cover is breaking up a bit off to our west and there is a chance that we brighten up a bit during parts of today, particularly during the morning but then later today some more sprinkles and showers redevelop. 53 degrees right now in philadelphia, not much wind after all so that's not a problem. 51 in allentown, 52 in wilmington, 60 in sea isle city. not as bad as yesterdayly as we head out the door to catch that school bus over the next couple hours looks like we are probably in the low 50's in the immediate region and in most areas with just a light sprinkle or a shower in a couple of spots. as we head out to the train station or the car or school, 53 degrees on your storm

girard about a 14 minute ride really not showing any delay yet. just more people getting out there. we've got a vehicle fire. there's been a lot going on today. this is in robbinsville mercer county right on the new jersey turnpike northbound past exit 7a. it's out there blocking the right lane. and one more note. the burlington bristol bridge reopened, reopened at 5 o'clock this morning. it was shut down for construction. it will shut down again tonight at 9 o'clock each night this week. stick to the turnpike connector bridge instead, matt. >> will do. thank you karen. breaking this morning, oscar pistorius is going to jail. a judge in south africa has issued her sentence for the shooting death of his girlfriend last year. "action news" reporter katherine scott has been following the sentencing hearing and joins us live in the studio. katherine. >> reporter: matt, the judge sentenced oscar pistorius to five years in jail for the shooting death of his girlfriend. under south african law he must serve at least 10 months before being considered for house arrest. this morning in pretoria south africa pistorius was asked to stand in front of a crowded courtroom. he didn't give much by way of a visible reaction to the sentence.

five years for culpable homicide, culpable homicide means the person was killed unintentionally but unlawfully. pistorius was also given a three year sentence ton a firearms champ but it was suspended for five years on condition he's not found guilty of another crime where there's negligence involving a firearm during that period. the prosecution had called for a minimum 10 year sentence. the defense had argued for community service and house arrest. the 27-year-old olympic and paralympic track star had said that he shot his girlfriend by accident on valentine's day 2013 fearing that she was an intruder in his house. the judge said this morning when she began that the sentencing decision was hers and hers alone. she weighed a lot of criteria as she came to her decision. >> the extent of the negligence in culpable homicide cases plays an important role in coming to an appropriate sentence which should neither be too severe nor too light.

>> reporter: and we are awaiting word from the prosecution and defense on whether they will appeal the sentencing. nydia. >> katherine thank you. new this morning someone fired bullets into a north philadelphia home overnight while people were asleep inside. nobody was hit. bullet shell casings littered the 4300 block of north dar ran street. who fired the shots and why are still under investigation. >> ♪ president obama's ebola czar ron clean gets to work tomorrow. he'll coordinate the actions of government agencies in combating the disease. the cdc is advising healthcare workers in the u.s. to be fully protected when treating ebola patients. the cdc cannot require hospitals to follow the guidelines. the u.s. and canada are pushing for approval of experimental vaccine. >> this is new on "action news," a pennsylvania property inspector is accused of trying to flip items that had been left behind in foreclosed homes. police say justin archer listed left over appliances on

craigslist and was caught when a couple showed up to a home in lebanon county looking to purchase one of the items only to find a real estate agent was there trying to sell the entire house instead. the authorities believe archer also ran the scam with several listed homes in berks, lancaster and chester counties and any victims are asked to call police. >> the battle over the philadelphia teachers contract is now being fought in the courts. a judge has temporarily blocked the school district from making teachers pay for part of their healthcare. that's the result of yesterday's preliminary injunction. the school reform commission canceled the teachers' contract sparking a massive protest last week. the src has appealed yesterday's decision. >> yet another retailer with stores in our region is looking into the possibility that hackers stole important data. maribel aber has the story live at the nasdaq in times square. good morning, maribel. >> reporter: hey, good morning to you matt. staples is investigating a possible data breach. hackers may have attacked the company's credit card data.

[laughter] >> don't fly at all. >> tell your family to stay near where you are. >> come to you. >> that's right. storm tracker 6 live double scan right now shows you that we are mainly dry. there were some more pronounced sprinkles and showers around earlier so some of your roads might still be damp even in areas where your not seeing rain right now but that would not include areas just to the west and north of norristown where we have one fairly significant shower with some dark shades of green and some yellow popping up that's pushing up towards lansdale. doylestown already seen some lighter stuff but doylestown another 15, 20 minutes probably gets into this as well but i think it only takes about 15 or 20 minutes for this to pass most areas but there it is making roads a little extra wet in some of those northern suburbs. allentown looks to be drying out. there's another batch of precip coming in on cape may county and in through atlantic city. it's kind of falling apart as it heads across the delaware bay. as we take a look outside, we've cloudy skies across most of the region despite the fact that there were earlier sprinkles and showers at the airport you really don't see a

whole lot of indication of moisture on the air field right now. just a little bit wet and of course if you're driving on road that has some leaf cover on it be careful because even if the roads drying out the leaves take longer to dry out and they can be slippery. 53 degrees in philadelphia, 51 currently in allentown. 49 degrees in trenton. 52 in wilmington and even 60's down along or boardwalk so i'm bringing thon always on day planner for you so you can kind of get a quick look at what's coming up. future tracker 6 shows that you between now and maybe a half hour or so from now we're going to start to see drying and by lunchtime, 12 o'clock, there might even be some sun poking through. then later in the afternoon after about 4, 5 o'clock we'll start to see the redevelopment of additional showers spoking through. obviously not everybody sees them but the model indicating that some of them could be brief but maybe a little bit steady. again, the best chance of that is beginning after about 4 or 5 o'clock and tonight between 10 and 11 o'clock, cecily and adam are live and they'll have more to show you on storm tracker 6 live double scan although again it's spotty

precipitation, okay. not a washout today. up in allentown we're going for a high of 65, mostly cloudy, a spotty shower can't be ruled out but dry most of the time. down the shore, also milder than yesterday with highs getting up to about 68 degrees, mostly cloudy, a spotty shower at times but mainly dry. and in philadelphia, pretty much the same story. mostly cloudy skies, some sunny breaks, a spotty shower at times but dry most of the way and a high of 68 degrees. winds very light today, all right. and then as we go through the day, well, 52 by 8 o'clock but 11 -- 61 by 11 o'clock i should say. if you're planning on being outside with some sort of optional errands or activities you might want to wait until the afternoon because we will be milder with mid 60's and in fact a high of 68 isn't too shabby and those showers pretty much holding off until later in the day. now tomorrow, wednesday 6 o'clock in the morning right about now it looks like it has a chance of being wetter. we'll have a better chance of these showers popping through, some of them could be steady at times. there's the 9 o'clock view. then we go into 3 o'clock and

it might be a little bit damp but this stuff is going to start to pinwheel off the coast after that and by the evening we're probably done with tomorrow's rain. we're looking at the possibility of rain the next three days but most of it will be on wednesday. even these percentage chances are fairly similar, ooh want to push the idea that there's not a whole lot going on today, much better chance tomorrow and the best chance of thursday rain would be in the morning. it looks like the afternoon we may actually dry out a little bit. taking a look at your exclusive alaska weather seven days, mostly cloudy, spotty sprinkles and showers, 68. wednesday 61, most of our rain will probably fall on wednesday out of the next three. on thursday, we have a shot at some early precipitation. hopefully drying and maybe some sun back in the afternoon. friday looks breezy and nice. saturday 67 and nice and sunny mid 60's on sunday. >> look at that weekend, another nice one.

we have one in lehigh county on 78 eastbound which is closed at 145 as well. now we're looking at chester county. this is the 30 bypass at 113. it is wet here. your eastbound traffic kind of building volume between 340 and 113 but you can see the roads just a little bit wet so you need to be careful as you're traveling. here's that big closure we warned you about in lehigh county. this is a big one having i-78 eastbound shut down at 145. sticksy is it particular 122 as your alternate. another new accident in south jersey cumberland county burlington road at lake view drive. so we've seen these accidents just kind of keep coming in. i would be careful about that. storm tracker 6 live dub scan showing not a lot of rain out there. we have one shower that's coming down pretty good. you can see that not only by the area of green but the yellow as well as it's traveling up to the northeast. so 422 eastbound you're wet there in phoenixville as well as 202, northeast extension and headed right near doylestown starting to get wet there. we've been following the shower down to the south as well soaking you there in parts of delaware and along

we don't have any more information about this person, whether this person was injured, whether this person is under some sort of suspicion but basically what we know is that at 4:45 someone called saying several shots had been fired. police arrived at an apartment building in east norriton along 202 and it seems that the shots had been coming from one of the apartments on the third floor, so they basically surrounded the area. as we take a live look they're still there by the way, we're told they've arrested one person but that's basically all the information we're getting right now. now, they're holding the scene. this is an apartment complex along dekalb pike route 202 in east norriton township where it seems like they have confirmed that some shots had been fired from one of the apartments. they continue to investigate and we'll give you more information as it comes in. and also breaking right now, a judge in south africa has ordered oscar pistorius to

spend five years in prison for the killing of his girlfriend. "action news" reporter katherine scott has been following details for us and joins us live in the satellite center with the latest. katherine. >> that's right, matt, that was the breaking news out of south africa this morning, that oscar pistorius will serve five years behind bars for the culpable homicide charge he was convicted of in the shooting death of his girlfriend reeva steenkamp. pistorius stood before a packed courtroom in pretoria south africa this morning as the sentencing was read, five years for the culpable homicide charge. culpable homicide is similar to manslaughter in the united states. he was also given a three year sentence on a firearms charge but it was suspended for five years on the condition he's not found guilty of another negligent charge involving a firearm during that period. the prosecution had called for a minimum 10 year sentence. the defense had argued for community service and house arrest for the 27-year-old olympic and paralympic track star. pistorius has said he shot

his girlfriend by accident on valentine's day last year fearing that she was an intruder in his house. as for how much time he'll actually spend behind bars the defense says he'll likely spend 10 months in prison before being eligible for house arrest. oscar pistorius' uncle arnold pistorius addressed reporters outside the courthouse suggesting the defense will not be appealing the sentence. >> we accept the judgment. oscar will embrace this opportunity to pay back to society. >> reporter: and we are still awaiting official word from the steenkamp family as to their reaction to this sentencing though we are told that the steenkamp family told reporters in the courtroom that justice has been served. we're live in the satellite center, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." nydia. >> katherine thanks for all the late breaking updates. new overnight japan agreed to join the u.s. military effort to fight ebola in west africa.

the european union has set a fundraising goal of $1 billion for patient relief overseas. in the u.s. there are about 120 people in texas being monitored for symptoms of ebola. their wait period ends on november 7. another 140 people are under observation in ohio. they may have come in contact with amber vincent. she's one of the two nurses who treated -- tested positive for the virus in the united states. told me what's going on. they had to get in my house. i let them in my house and they searched. >> now police have not confirmed if they believe frein was actually in that area. pocono mountain schools canceled evening classes yesterday because of the search and again have canceled classes today. police believe a highly credible sighting of frein took place in that same area on friday. >> 6:38. a little rain today but nothing major, right. >> nothing major, no, just some spotty sprinkles and showers. right now storm tracker 6 live double scan shows quite a bit of improvement from where we were a couple hours ago when we hit the air waves. as you see, we have mainly dying little sprinkle down in cape may county and we're still looking at that slightly more pronounced cell that's pushing out of montgomery county and into central bucks county. this one is going to get those of you around doylestown briefly damp but it looks like it will probably only take about 15 or 20 minutes for this to pass by doylestown. already cleared lansdale. if you're up in new hope you'll probably catch a little

bit this as well. quakertown probably just about to miss it and i'll go ahead and start that up for you. , see how the movement is up towards sergeantville and flemington. getting through pretty quickly. as we take a look outside we have cloudy skies across the region. we'll probably see a couple breaks a little later this morning and wind up getting some sunshine before the clouds thicken up again later in the afternoon. temperatures 53 degrees right now. the winds are calm, so it feels pretty comfortable out there particularly compared to yesterday when we were in the 30's. future tracker 6 between now and noon shows you that we are looking at that precipitation lifting out of here. there could be a brightening of the skies in parts of the region up until about midday, maybe into the early afternoon and then later this afternoon around 4 or 5 o'clock another round of spotty showers is possible. some of these could bring brief steadier rain but probably not a lot of that. and the situation with these is the same as this morning. if they do manage to make roads where you're driving weather, slow down because we do have leaves on the roadways that can make things a little extra slick.

by 10:00 to 11 o'clock tonight there might still be lingering activity on radar for adam and cecily to show you on both channel 17 and here on 6abc. as we go through the day, well, we are looking at a milder afternoon than yesterday, 52 degrees by 8 o'clock. 61 by 11 o'clock. still a little bit cool through the morning but we're spending most of the afternoon hours in the mid to up are 60's with a high of 68 probably around 4 o'clock this afternoon. mostly cloudy skies overall, maybe a little brighter around 11 or 12 o'clock and just a chance of a spotty shower here or there but mainly dry. high temperatures from north to south not too much of a range. 65 in allentown, 68 in philadelphia and 67 down in cape may. as we take a look at tomorrow things change a little bit. once again we're under mostly cloudy skies but at 6:00 in the morning right about during the middle of our broadcast tomorrow morning there is the better chance of some showers around and some of these could be steadier as we go in through the rest of the rush hour, again, some steady rain in areas -- parts of the area any anyway are possible. then we get up to two, 3, 4 o'clock and you can see how

this stuff is starting to swing off the coast. looks like by tomorrow evening we're dry but a real spotty chance of a shower today, a little bit better chance tomorrow obviously. as we take a look at how much rain we're going to get until this whole thing is over sometime thursday, it looks like most places -- most models i should say are going for about an inch, some a little more than an inch. i think we're more along the lines of the central models and most of the rain you're going to see is going to fall on wednesday. your seven day from accuweather, today's high 68, mostly cloudy skies. only a spotty shower around. then rain and drizzle on wednesday with a high of 61. little better chance of rain on wednesday. on thursday, a shower left over in the morning but it looks like we have a chance of some drying and maybe some sun coming back later in the day. a cool high of 57 degrees on thursday. friday looks great. partly sunny, breezy, 64 degrees. 67 on saturday and lots of sun, mid 60's on zinn. >> love it. thanks, david. >> we do, too. thank you david. 6:41. a recent attack on a same-sex

what's going on in east police taking someone out on a stretcher out of this apartment building near route 202. we are told that this individual is the person that police were looking for in connection with the reporting of several shots being fired at a third floor unit at this apartment complex. obviously they're probably taking him to some sort of hospital for some medical treatment. we don't know what injuries were sustained went do not have absolute confirmation that shots had been fired but certainly it was reported happening at 4:45 a.m. about two hours ago. that's what we know at this point. still more things we need to learn and we'll bring them to you when they come in. >> karen rogers has an update on how this is affecting traffic in this area. >> dekalb pike route 202 is shut down and it has been shut down all morning between germantown pike and colonial drive right near the east norriton east apartments in that area so you can stick to swede road or new hope street but dekalb pike, 202, shut

down right here between germantown pike and colonial drive so watch for that one in east norriton. we have this other accident here butler pike at stenton avenue. we've had a handful of accidents coming in. we have a new problem coming in to us already creating big issues. this is 295 northbound approach andying 168, that's the black horse pike. we have a disabled vehicle. it's out there blocking the right lane and look at these speeds. 15 miles an hour. so it doesn't take much. the trouble is whenever you have a problem in such a bad spot, a spot that would be getting busy at this hour. now 2295 northbound approaching 168 the right lane blocked, 15 miles an hour in that area. also affecting the speeds about 31 miles an hour on 42 kind of extra heavy leading up to that disabled vehicle in that area so watch for that in new jersey. here's a big one in the lehigh valley. i-78 eastbound is shut down right at route 145 because of an accident here. it's been shut down for a little while now. stick to 22 as your alternate. a handful of accidents and storm tracker 6 live double scan showing not lot of rain but we had some showers move through making the roads damp.
