"action news" delaware valley's leading news program. with rick williams, sara bloomquist, and meteorologist, david murphy. good afternoon we begin with breaking news at this hour, gun fire erupting on parliament hill in ottawa, canada, police are looking for a gunman, possibly more than one shooter after several hootings this morning. the shooter apparently shot a soldier, and then ran into the parliament building and started shooting. perhaps as many as 30 shots

erupted. prime minister steven harper was rushed to a safe place and all military buildings in canada are put on lockdown, but at this point there is no confirmation that anyone was shot in the parliament building. there are reports that police are looking for more than one shooter. meantime, residents of the city are asked to get to a safe place. every military place in ottawa are in lockdown. there are reports that one the suspects carjacked a driver after escaping from the parliament building. canada has raised its security level. once again police are now looking for at least one shooter here and we are watching dramatic video unfold in ottawa,

"action news" and 6abc.com, are staying on top of this news story. turning to accuweather now and the latest on our rainy and windy day. taking a live look from sky 6 hd, at philadelphia international airport skies are gray and the tarmac is wet, how long do these wet conditions stick around. lets go to david murphy with accuweather. >> it's a wet one so far in parts of the region, look at stormtracker 6 live double scan there is a line of precipitation stretching west to east across the region and it's moving in off the ocean, if we go in tighter, you can see most of this is light to moderate rain and there is a heavier cell highlighted in yellow and pushing to the east and the west. because of a wave of low pressure to the south that is guiding us through as we look at satellite and radar, plenty of cloud cover with the rain and it's pinwheeling in a counter

clockwise motion and it's moving so slow we'll be under the threat of this showery rainfall for the rest of the day and the position may shift as the day goes on, the people in the center portion, definitely getting the wet stuff. so what to expect this afternoon? it's cloudy and damp and periods of rain off and on and showers lingering to the rush hour and beyond. temperatures in the 50s and some spots can get to 60. it's also windy. future tracker 6 handling wind gusts, later this afternoon and this evening you have the potential for gusts of 20 to 30 miles per hour. you can see how the winds will wrapping down from the north from the coast. later in the nighttime, the winds drop from due north and the low pulls away but it's

and claire paige smelled spoke and notified others in this business including leroy irving. >> i ran downstairs and the whole front porch was orange and i tried to open the front door and everything was orange. >> irving says someone helped to catch him when he jumped from the second floor. both men were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. >> am devastated because everything i have got is gone. everything. >> neighbors describe a wall of fire across the front porches that made it difficult to evacuate. this passerby helped a baby. >> it was a baby, i wanted to help out, i did what anybody would do pretty much. >> 50 firefighters and seven

pieces of equipment brought the blaze under control in less than an hour. >> the fire extended to the right of the original fire dwelling involving other homes as well as damage in the interior. >> the cause of this fire remains under investigation. katherine scott, channel 6 "action news." slippery conditions may have led to a deadly crash on winfield this morning. this is 59th street, the driver of the cadillac somehow lost control and crashed into the northbound lanes and hit three trees and a light pole, it ejected the driver and split the car in half. the driver was rushed to the hospital of the university of pennsylvania but did not survive. president barack obama is meeting with his new ebola czar and top aides this afternoon. this as several passengers

held a summit to go over the readiness to deal with any only ebola cases here. coming up later, ali gorman will have a live report from today's summit on ebola. in toms river, new jersey, a man was arrested for marking heroining with the words eastbound object. had 633 wax folds carrying her ohinning and crack cocaine. >> the ramada inn says they did not know the alleged dealing was happening at the time. a threat against penn state has emerged on social media, this targeted the berks campus. they threatened to blow up a build that is currently under construction. the culprit has not been caught,

a student at penn state's main campus was threatened last week. students in philadelphia returned to school for a special listen, southeast leadership academy charter school held a meeting for gender equality. the mothers learned how the teaching model improves the experience for boys and girls and then they enjoyed breakfast at the school with their children. three teenage girls from suburban denver may have been trying to join extremists in syria.

sources tell abc 6 news that isis propaganda videos posted online lured three colorado girls overseas, the records show that two sisters and a friend stayed home sick and stole $2,000 and passports from their parents. they planned to fly to syria to possibly join isis fighters. they were detained in germany and then sent to the u.s. to be questioned by the fbi.

we'll have more on this at 12:30. an ohio man detained in north korea is back in the arms of his family. jeffrey fowl was reunited with his wife and family. they recently released fowl after he left a bible in a nightclub. fowl was not credited a threat to the north, two other americans convicted of crimes in the north are still being held. a group of people in china took matters into their own hands after getting stuck in an elevator, the elevator took 11 people to the basement and the door opened up to a brick wall, someone inside used a hammer to chisel an opening and a man squeezed through the space. a costume shop owner is being increasingly concerned

center portion of the region. lets go in closer here and see that those rain drops are falling through philadelphia and it's coming in off the ocean on the other side of wrights town and trenton and philadelphia, and norristown may be getting out from under this shortly and a heavier cell to the south and west of philadelphia, now pushing away from delaware county and entering newcastle county and in wilmington you are about to get hit by that. as we look wider across the region, this is nuisance precipitation down to the south churning itself in. we have cloudy skies out there and with that low close by, are you also looking at fairly windy conditions and when the action cam was out by the art center, can you see the wind moving the plans around and the gray skies socking us in as well. 55 is the current temperature, you'll want a couple of layers,

it's cool and windy. sustained winds up to 20 miles per hour and gusting higher than that at times. it has the damp feel, 55 in philadelphia and 56 in allentown and 54 in trenton. a little milder, low 60s down by the shore but even that doesn't feel that great. wind gusts are not popping up everywhere. like some of these blank spots like philadelphia and allentown when the numbers came in. but if you look at the array of numbers that is what you can expect outside. gusting from 20 to 30 miles per hour at times this afternoon. future tracker showing you from now until 3:00, i still expect it to be fairly damp and a chance of spotty shower activity just about anywhere. the model is selling the idea of less rain for the evening commute and i think there is a possibility of showers around and roads in some places could be damp and the cloud cover is

in play and the winds are really ripping through the region. by 11:00 this evening, less to show you on radar and a couple of sprinkles around. in allentown a cool dank one, periods of rain possible and most of the rain on the light side but not a comfortable afternoon. down the shore, cloudy and windy and periods of rain and 62 degrees, even though there is a break in the action at the shore. the rain up by philadelphia is going to start to pull back down in your direction this afternoon. in philadelphia, 60 is your high and cloudy skies and wet at times and periods of rain and blustery and cool and winds 20 to 25 miles per hour. that is enough to feel it. cloudy and windy and occasional rain and showers around and cooler tonight than it was last night. for the evening commute, cloudy and windy and showers are possible, i know that future tracker is backing off on it. but i still allow on this.

"action news" at 12:30 continues with rick williams, sara bloomquist and meteorologist, david murphy. hello again, we begin with breaking news, that we have been reporting shootings in and around the canadian parliament in ottawa, we have video just in that captured the chaotic moments that unfolded there. police faced gun fire in the crowded parliament building.

they are looking for one suspect that shot a soldier at the nearby war memorial. again, this is video just in, the shooter, or possibly shooters ran into parliament and began firing, prime minister steven harper was rushed to safety and other lawmakers scrambled for their lives. police have not said who carried out the shootings, as a precaution canada's military bases are all on lockdown, two days ago a convert to islam killed a soldier and injured another. there is no indication that these incidents are connected.

"action news" reporter, and registered nurse, ali gorman is live now with all the details. >> reporter: sara, there are no cases of ebola here in our area but lawmakers want to be ready if that were to happen. they are saying they are confident in our local hospitals, but there are questions still to be answered. we know mistakes were made in

dallas, when ebola victim, thomas duncan, was sent home despite having symptoms when traveling to west africa, two were affected while treating duncan. they met with local hospitals and public health experts this morning. here in our region they feel confident there are plans in place to handle the ebola virus, but they say it's an ongoing discussion. >> we were comforted based on this conversation and we want to do our work to make sure that the federal government can respond appropriately if the need arised in our region and we don't have the missteps that took place, not intensely, but took place nonetheless in texas. >> i have confidence in these institutions but you can't expect the level of care at every institution that is being

provided at nih. >> they say they are able to identify an ebola patient and isolate the patient. the question is would the patient be treated here or transferred to a place like the nih. meantime, french researcher asnounced this morning they will do the first human test of a drug made by japan's fuji film country. results are expected in january and if the drug works it will be given to workers in west africa in february. fuji brafrnled out into farm suedcalled last year. the ebola story is at 6abc.com/ebola, we have a list of myths versus facts about the disease to help you steer clear

of misinformation and you can see signs and symptoms and how the virus spreads. keep the umbrella close, sky 6 hd is looking at the gray skies over center city. meteorologist, david murphy, is at the big board with more. >> we talked about how today was the big ticket day for rain and it has been so far. the movement of the rain is coming in off the ocean and diving down to the southwest, because of an area of low pressure to the south, and if we go in tighter there are areas in south jersey in gloucester and camden county and parts of chester and newcastle county that are getting pieces of rain, highlighted in yellow, most of it it nuisance rain and pushing down from the northern suburbs. the wide view on satellite also

clearly shows you that counterclockwise flow around the low. it started here and you can see the center of that here, it's off the coast and that means the low is there as well. some additional rain you see coming in off the ocean and farther to the east is likely go toing pinwheel in as we go through the next several hours, we also have decent wins wrapping in as well. temperatures are not comfortable and you may need a couple of lairs. 56 in allentown and mid-50s just about everywhere, and temperatures at the beach, are milder because the ocean temperature is milder and that allows the temperatures to hold in the low 60s. 60 is your forecast high and 49 is the low and damp all the way with wet, and windy conditions. we have tropical depression number nine, that could be a

tropical storm. it's coming in on the yucatan peninsula of mexico. not a powerful storm but 5 to 10 inches of rain, i'm letting you know if you have vacation plans for places like cancun. it's wet and windy there. >> police are looking for two suspects in an overnight robbery in the logan section of philadelphia. they say that two men barged into his home at 2:00 a.m. they shoved him inside and assaulted him about a gun. the suspects were last seen fleeing the home with a tv and gaming system. two people were hurt after a crash at fairmount park, the accident closed kelly drive in both directions. two cars collided at 9:00 and

two people were taken by ambulance to hup. and mlk drive remains closed this noon. an indiana man that confessed to killing seven women made his first court appearance this morning. police say that darren van was not on their radar, he probably should have been. records show an increased violence against women including rape and dousing a woman in gasoline. most were ended with plea bargains and probation. three women are under arrest, accused of trying to join terrorists, specifically isis. karen travers has the latest from washington. >> reporter: the three girls, of sudanese and somali descent are only 15, 16 and 17 years old. sources tell abc news that they

wide once the loop finishes there is not much going on to the north there is just that band for now. a couple of break away cells are possible up north and this will fill in over the next several hours. we have cloudy skies and not looking pretty out there. a lot of rain drops on sky 6's lens and cool, windy conditions to contend with. temperature is 56 degrees in philadelphia, the dew point is close to that number and that indicates fairly saturated air, winds 8 to 18 miles per hour. and some gusts over 20 and even 30 at times this afternoon and tonight for that matter. as we go through now and 3:00 it's still damp but there say chance we'll see the precipitation erode a little bit into the evening commute but i'll allow showers to pop up anywhere and the roads still being damp for the evening commute and still slow, by 10:30

tonight, stormtracker 6 live double scan has a couple of sprinkles and showers to show you, high temperatures across the region, fairly even, low 60s at the shore and upper 50s in allentown and reading and philadelphia is winding up on or about 60 degrees this afternoon. rain is possible for just about all of us, but areas of philadelphia to the shore has a better chance. 59 by 3:00 and then down to 58 by 5:00 and 57 by 7:00 and 55 by 9:00, not that much of a drop, we are not getting very high in terms of temperatures. overnight we dip to 49 and a chance of a spotty shower any time this afternoon and this evening. low pressure off the coast is the culprit with all of this, and by tomorrow the low instead of being to the south we'll be close by to the east of us, and pushing off towards new england, and tomorrow's high is 57 and showers are spilling off the low

and it's windy, look at these gusts up to 39 miles per hour, that is a problem throughout tomorrow as it will be a cloudy and damp day, in terms of rain tomorrow, not a whole lot but a chance of spotty showers popping through and on some models this could drive through in the afternoon. this genally speaking is not as much rain as we see today. we told that you today was the big ticket day for rain. 56 is the high for philadelphia officially and cloudy and rainy and tomorrow a damp start is likely with a few showers or sprinkles around and whether or not we continue to get something in the afternoon depends on the model you look at it, it has a chance to be cloudy and windy and dank, and 57 is the high, things turn around on friday and clouds mix with sun and we get more sun into play with a high of 64 and saturday up to 67, sun and clouds and cooler on sunday and 63 is not bad, things are
