notice how you're seeing some patches of dark in through here and that's the thinning of the clouds that will be thin enough to allow some sunshine to poke through those holes as we go through the day. starting out with temperatures on or about 50 in the immediate region, 49 in wilmington, 47 in trenton, 51 in philadelphia. up in allentown just 44 degrees. 55 in millville and even 60s up and down the coastline. winds not all that strong but notice how they are coming out of the mild southwest. that's ahead of a cold front out to the west and that's drawing in some milder air for this afternoon. as you head out the door to catch that school bus or get the car started, it looks like it's still going to be cool on or about 50 between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. but things to do warm up in a hurry as we head to school and to work, well, lunch on a park bench, maybe you got a little recess outside today. by noon, 66 degrees. by 3 o'clock, 74 degrees and your high today is actually going to be 75 degrees and that will hit at about 3:30 or 4:00 this afternoon before we dip back into the upper 60's

by 6:00. so, nice today, karen, but how long can we hold this pattern? i'll have details in that seven day. >> not long enough, that's my answer. let's heads outside. this is the vine street expressway approaching the schuylkill. we're looking clear here, all the overnight construction on the vine is clear and we have no problems. we do have some construction that's on the ramp from the boulevard northbound to roberts avenue. it's closing that ramp so watch for that. stick to the ramp under abbottsford avenue instead. boulevard southbound between bustleton and ninth we've got that paving again in the inner drive and that's about for another half hour or so. west chester we go looking live. this is 202. we can see the construction out here. penndot blocking the right lane on 202 northbound past paoli pike but we've got light volume so not creating a big problem here. burlington bristol bridge up for a passing ship. in the meantime stick to the turnpike connector instead. other than that you're good to go as you head out the door. matt and tam. >> tanks karen. breaking right now the spca has rescued more than a dozen animals from a home suspected of being a dog

fighting ring. they are even finding syringes possibly for injecting steroids into the animals. "action news" reporter katherine scott was first on the scene and joins us live from the home in south philadelphia. katherine. >> reporter: matt, we do have some updated numbers from the pspca. we're hearing eight puppies and five adult dogs were rescued from the home and just in the last few minutes you can see they took out a piece of training equipment, appears to be a treadmill. they put it on the back of this vehicle here and that they believe was used to train these dogs used in dog fighting. authorities remain here on the scene on the 2200 block of mifflin street in south philadelphia as they continue to take evidence out of the home. they rescued the dogs earlier. they started with the puppies first and police say they found blood throughout the house, evidence of dog fighting on the premises and this could date back for quite sometime. police were called for

suspicious activity. they arrived around midnight. they found training equipment and paraphernalia authorities believe were used in there case. you saw that treadmill for the dogs, syringes likely you'd to give the dogs steroids. we're told conditions insides are unsanitary and the dogs will be taken to be checked out by veterinarians. so far no arrests in this case. there's still some evidence inside the home but again, we did see that treadmill being taken out of the home just in the last several minutes. we're waiting for more equipment to be carried out but again, this is a suspected dog fighting bust here in south philadelphia. the pspca and philadelphia police have been on the scene throughout the night. we'll bring you more updates as we get them. we're live in south philadelphia, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." >> katherine, so sad look aght those sweet puppies. thank you. well, new this morning a fast moving fire injured one person in the somerton section of philadelphia. crews quickly knocked down the flames on the 100 block of mandina street after 1:00 a.m. investigators believe the fire may have started in the garage before spreading through the

three story duplex. >> happening today, penn state's board of trustees will gather for app special meeting on the freeh report. the 2012 finding by former fbi director louie freeh concluded former college officials showed total disregard for the victims of jerry sandusky. the ncaa used the report for the basis of its sanctions against the penn state football team which have since been lifted. one trustee called the freeh report incomplete and inaccurate and is demanding the board to revisit the investigation. >> parents are scrambling this morning trying to place their children in new schools now that a charter high school in philadelphia suddenly closed. erin o'hearn is live at the big board with some of those parents' angry reaction. good morning. >> tam, you can imagine just how difficult this is for these ninth through 12th graders who are almost two full months into the school year. a robo call went out over the weekend notifying families that the walter d. palmer charter high school would be shutting down. this left nearly 300 students,

80 of them seniors scrambling to find new classrooms in the city. at a meeting last night in frankford parents were outraged. >> my niece and nephew still home from the elementary school. how you going to place a high school. you haven't even placed elementary kids yet. >> i let you guys in knowing what some of the reaction would be. i wanted you to see it. i want people to recognize these are the at risk children, at risk families that people don't care about. >> and that was actually you heard from the ceo there and a parent as well who is looking for a school for her child. it was well known that the school had low performance and financial difficulties for months but parents were put on notice that closing the school was a very real possibility but obviously this is a shock and they were still outraged at the way the process was handled and again, for months the low performing school has been battling with the philadelphia school district which is in the process of revoking its charter. the school which also has k through eight in other

locations had twice the number of students legally allowed. now, the districts says west philadelphia high school is available for seniors if they want to transfer there but what's next for teachers and staff, that remains unknown. matt. >> all right, erin, thank you. the nurse who was forcibly kept in quarantine in a tent in new jersey is considering suing the state. casey hickox had returned from treating ebola victims in west africa. her attorney says she is angry over how she was treated due to governor christie's 21 day confinement order. hickox spent three days in an unheated tent but was allowed to leave and het back to her home in maine where she will continue her quarantine. nine states now require such quarantines for healthcare workers returning from the ebola zone in africa but doctors say quarantine is only necessary for people who actually show symptoms of having the virus. we have created a special section of our web site for all of our ebola coverage. go to 6abc.com/ebola.

really going to feel it. the mornings will be cool. then we go for a much cooler change as we head later into the seven day. 51 degrees right now in philadelphia. your winds are east-southeast at 3 miles per hour and a lot of spots they're calm so not a lot of wind out there to worry about. satellite shows you how there is a little bit of additional cloud cover that has begun to move in in the overnight hours. it's thin enough where it's going to allow some sun in. overall we'll go for a mix of sun and clouds today. as we roll through the day, temperatures are going to improve in a hurry. we'll still be at about 50 by 11 o'clock. by 11 o'clock up to 62 and we're spending the afternoon in the 70's today. 75 is your high around 4 o'clock but even by 2 o'clock, we'll be at a comfortable 72, so if you have outdoor plans, today is the day to cash them in. as we take a look at highs across the region, even up in the lehigh valley and reading, very similar to philadelphia, so mild everywhere. down the shore about 72. winds should be on the light side today, not much different than yesterday. what's going on to our south? almost looks like a earthquake. well, no, it's just rocket

launch from nasa's wallops island facility in virginia. this is going to be at 6:22 tonight and if you look to the south, you may be able to catch this through those thin clouds that we've got. now, this was supposed to go off last night but somebody thought they would get a good look at it and pull their boat in close to the shore but that was in the secure zone. that scrubbed the launch. that's at 6:22 tonight. you might have to wait a couple minutes for it to get high enough off the horizon to see that. still mild tomorrow as that cold front will be coming through during the day. there might be a little isolated sprinkle or shower with that. but future tracker 6 showing that you it's really not much during the day. maybe the evening you get something but mostly dry tomorrow. still mild and little bit more cloud cover around. as we take a look at your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, we are going for that great high today of 75 degrees. clouds mixing with sun and then tomorrow a clouds and sun mix, another mild high of 71 with a slight chance of a sprinkle or shower at times. behind that departing front

on sky 6 out across penn's landing over the ben franklin bridge. good day to make sure you take the sunglasses with you. it's going to get up into the 70's today. >> let's get a little suburban. >> all right. let's do it suburban here, matt. check out right now the commuter traffic report. we're looking live here on lionville, chester county, route 100 looking good right now with no problems. roads are clear and dry and looking pretty good here in lionville but from 9:00 until 3:00 today northbound on route 100 between worthington roads and 113 you'll have construction blocking a lane so look for some restrictions then but not just yet. let's go to the maps. we have a new accident here in chester county, route 100 southbound at 422. it's off to the shoulder but just coming in to us right now in north coventry township so watch for that one in chester county. the northeast extension northbound we've got the right lane blocked with construction between lansdale and quakertown. southbound construction cleared but the northbound construction still out there this morning. and here we go to the waze app for your commuter traffic report.

we found some people talking about animals near the road. it's that time of the year that we are seeing a lot of deer out there. i know i passed them coming in this morning myself but this particular sighting on the atlantic city expressway near winslow so watch for that. that's a busy area near cross keys road so you may be get something deer on the road around there as well. let's check the temperatures for you. 49 degrees in warrington, 49 in saint davids and 48 in center city. so we're talking about a nice mild afternoon with highs in the mid 70's but still starting off a bit on the cool side, not nearly as chilly as yesterday morning when we were in the 30's in some of our suburbs. 55 in buena, 45 glassboro and 56 already in dover, tam. >> okay, thank you, karen. take a look at these new overnight aerials of the lava flow threatening homes in hawaii. the molten material is moving the length of almost three football fields each day and it incinerates anything that it touches. residents have been warned an evacuation order is coming any time now. officials plan on offering those homeowners a way to watch the path of destruction approach their properties as a

means of closure. >> new this morning, a colorado family is seng up its search for an nfl fan who vanished from the stands. they say paul kitterman went to go to the bathroom during half time at the denver broncos game on thursday and hasn't been seen since. he had no cell phone, credit card or vehicle with him. loved ones are hoping the stadium will review its security footage. police are not actively searching for kitterman right now because there is no indication that he was the victim of foul play. >> an odd story here. a man was attacked because of the color of his shirt all caught on camera. this is newly released video from dallas fort worth airport. it starts with a angry man taunting another man because he's wearing a pink shirt. he kicks and slaps the man in the pink shirt because the irate man believes the other man is gay. other passengers jump in and tackle the man until police arrive. the man who started all of this as you might imagine was arrested. >> one of them kind of looks like paul rudd and people thought the actor was part of that but it wasn't him.
