well, good wednesday morning, i'm reena ninan. >> and i'm t.j. holmes. we begin with an unmanned rocket bound for the space station exploding in the night sky. >> oh, god. >> oh, god. oh, god. hold on. it's going to be loud. it's going to be loud. it's going to be loud. >> the rocket blew up seconds after takeoff, sending debris back to early, terrifying onlookers. tahman bradley has the latest details. >> three, two, one. >> reporter: it was supposed to be a routine launch. an unmanned rocket blasting all from this nasa base in virginia, carrying supplies to the international space station. but seconds after liftoff, a catastrophic explosion. the rocket erupts into an enormous fire ball, a terrifying scene for families who gathered

to watch. >> oh, god. >> reporter: this would have been the first night time of an ann tars are rocket. the flight would have been visible to millions along the east coast. instead this is what people saw and felt for miles. nasa says no one in the area was injured. >> we have confirmed that all personnel have been accounted for. >> reporter: the rocket was carrying about 5,000 pounds of cargo to the space station. the third of eight resupply missions under a private firm. an interview said things began to go wrong almost from the start. and they likely sent a distress signal to the bot. >> it began to go wrong, 10, 12 seconds. >> reporter: shortly after the explosion, crews moved in to secure the sight and begin investigating. >> it has classified equipment on the spacecraft. so we need to maintain the area

around the debris in a secure manner. >> reporter: the antaras keeps the space station supplied with food, supplies and scientific equipment. the prior have been successful. >> how have things gone in the past? >> reporter: they do. this is a company with two failed rocket launches, one in 2009, one in 2011. the most recent failure, trying to get a climate satellite into orbit. they are expensive, costing hundreds of millions of dollars. >> the investigation begins today. thank you. also new overnight from washington. white house security has been breached again. nobody jumped the fence. the white house confirms that hackers broke into the unclassified computer network. a u.s. ally brought it to their attention. it may be state-sponsored,

possibly, by russia. security is getting tighter at federal buildings. the specific changes will vary by location. his department protects more than 9500 facilities around the country. it was triggered by repeated calls from terrorist groups for attacks on law enforcement and government facilities. and last week's terror attacks in canada. the soldier killed in the ottawa attack has been laid to rest. thousands lined the streets to pay his respects. corporal nathan cirillo was standing guard at tomb of the unknown soldier when he was killed. it's considered an act of terror. a brazen shooting in a north carolina town right in front of a course house known to have a heavy police presence. officers opened fire on two men. a second suspect is still on the loose. the victims were targeted and expected to recover.

well, at&t officials are calling charges in a few federal lawsuit, quote, baseless. the government is accusing the company of misleading millions of customers with the so-called unlimited data plans. it claims user's internet access slows down once a certain amount of data is used. at&t says it's been transparent about its plans. positive reports about corporate earnings in the nation's economy were the engines for a powerful rally on wall street. the dow opens above 17,000 for the first time since october 3rd. it's been a roller coaster month, the dow hitting the low two weeks ago. a broader measure with the s&p 500 is now just 26 points in the record high. macy's is going brood. it will open in abu dhabi, due to open in spring 2018 and will include the uae's second

a messy crash scene in northwest indiana after a chicago-bound amtrak slammed into a semitruck. the truck driver thought he could make it in time, but he clearly was wrong. the train split the truck in half. the powdered cement everywhere. 14 train passengers treated for minor injuries. the road conditions today, rain in the southeast and up the east coast. could be trouble for those folks on the i-95 corridor. but a good day to play, no major airport delays expected. a good update about that denver broncos fan who vanished last thursday. paul kitterman has been found. >> he's alive, safe, unharmed after being located in pueblo, colorado. he was 200 miles from home. he was last seen during the third quarter of last week's game. and jose conseco is

recovering after accidently shooting himself. he shot a finger off his left hand while attempting to clean his hand gun. he apparently didn't realize it was loaded. he was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery to save the finger. a man is playing for a division one college. jim cook was at al corn state after being court marshalled and excelled last year. he served a few months in jail. the ncaa has no rule to ban players from having a criminal conviction. and melissa river is getting ready for a major lawsuit. getting set to have a wrongful death against a clinic. they called a therapeutic complication, brain damage caused by low blood oxygen.
