>> ♪ >> an unmanned rocket blows up >> ♪ new video is just coming in from the launch side while a second supply ship takes flight overnight. >> sounding off on high school hazing. parents weigh in on the scandal that cost a bucks county football team the rest of their season. >> only on "action news," a tipster who helped police track down a convicted kidnapper and sex offender says the people who promised her cash rewards aren't paying up. >> good morning, it's 5:30. let's go right on over to meteorologist, david murphy and to karen rogers, take a look at your weather and traffic. good morning. >> well, it's a day of changes. we're starting outer mild with a fair amount of cloud cover out there. we have a cold front that's going to come through perhaps bringing a couple can of sprinkles and showers mainly this afternoon and then behind it the winds are going to turn out of the northwest and temperatures during the afternoon will be will begin to slide a little bit especially after about 2 o'clock in philadelphia. we're okay for now, though.

61 degrees in philadelphia. so still fairly mild. 63 in wilmington. 53 in allentown. that's one of the cooler spots and even that isn't too bad for this time of year. mid 60's down at the shore. and as we take a look at winds, again we are looking at a -- at winds out of the southwest right now fairly light for the most part but you can see how they're starting to turn out of the west out to the west of us as that front is getting a little bit closer to us and when fronts pass the wind direction changes. as we take a look at the bus stop forecast, well, cool but better than yesterday. low 60's between 6 and 8 o'clock. lots of clouds, probably not a lot of wind and as we roll through the days, well, on your smartphone storm tracker 6 app reporting 61 right now. we'll probably be on that about 8 o'clock. by noon 66. by 3 o'clock 67 and that's actually already falling from our high of 69 which will probably hit right in there around 2 o'clock this afternoon. of course you can always check your hourly temperature progression on that 6abc app on your smart some phone. karen we'll be back with the cooler weather that's just around the corner.

>> dave we've got a problem in our camera. looking live in center city, this is the vine street expressway eastbound at eighth street. we have an accident. you can see they kind of pushed it off to the gore point. penndot on the scene as well. it was blocking the left lane in a bad spot. so the accident moved off over to the side right now not causing a delay as you can see. just watch for this accident in center city on the vine street expressway eastbound. also report of an accident involving an overturned vehicle here and this is dillworth town road at brinton lake road. watch for this. police are en route with that accident. just happened a minute ago here. southampton road is reopened near the boulevard here. this is the water main break from yesterday. they were able to patch it so that's some better news. burlington bristol bridge we're waiting on an opening for a northbound shipment stick to the turnpike connector instead n haddon township camden county we have the left lane blocked on 168, that's the black horse pike southbound at nicholson road. that's construction causing the problem there, tam. >> okay, thank you, karen. and breaking overnighter a russian rocket is on its way to the international space

station just hours after a failed attempt in america lit up the night sky. take a look at this brand new video of the successful launch over kazakhstan. the regularly scheduled mission is now even more critical on the heels of the cargo crash off the coast of virginia. "action news" reporter erin o'hearn is live in our satellite center. she's got that part of the story. it was quite a picture, erin. >> reporter: yeah, it sure, what tam. and this unmanned rocket was blasting off the nasa base in virginia. it was carrying supplies to the international space station but just seconds after liftoff the rocket erupted into an enormous fire ball. now, take a look at this cell phone video posted on instagram. it shows the explosion as terrified families look on. the rocket called antares was carrying a science experiment designed by teens from ocean city high school in new jersey.

their project was one of only 19 selected to be on board and was intended to test the weight of bacteria growth on food in the absence of gravity. now, fortunately no one was hurt but clearly a group of students from ocean city watching the launch in virginia were traumatized. the cause of the explosion is unknown at this time but an executive at the private firm that contracted the launch says things started going wrong immediately. and it was likely the staff sent a destruct message to the rocket. now the focus is on cleanup which nasa says is no light task. >> this is an accident site and it is a rocket and it had a lot of has did you see equipment -- hazardous materials on board that people should not be looking for now, this accident is like to draw criticism over the agency's growing reliance on private u.s. companies in the post-shuttle era. nasa is paying billions of dollars top orbital sciences

and space-x to make station deliveries and it is countering on those companies to start flying u.s. astronauts in 2017 but again, this disaster devastating to these students who worked so hard on this project and for the nasa officials but luckily no one was hurt. i'm erin o'hearn, live in the sat center. tam back to you. >> erin thank. this has been the most viewed story on our web site 6abc.com. we posted raw video from the incident as well as photos of the explosion and the aftermath. >> the public had a chance weigh in on a high school football hazing scandal in bucks county. a lost people were angry. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live outside central bucks west in doylestown with more on what parents learned and said at last night's meeting. katherine. >> reporter: and matt some of the parents here last night believe the school district handled this situation very poorly but school district officials stood by their decision to cancel the last two games of the season. one of them was supposed to be held here at war memorial

field and central bucks west in doylestown. last friday that was their homecoming game, the final football game was set for this coming friday but again, both canceled amid the hazing allegations. all of the football coaches were suspended as well. at least night's meeting head coach brian hensel was shown a tremendous amount of support from some who say the district overreacted. the superintendent says players had participate in there preseason hazing that included rookies grabbing another player's genitals while fully clothed. another activity referred to by the players as waterboarding according to the superintendent involved placing a towel over rookies heads and pouring water over them in the shower while they were fully clothed. some disagreed as district officials gave the accounts. board members said hazing of any kind won't be tolerated. >> the misconduct including inappropriate physical contact in an intimidating and humiliating nature that led to the suspension was not trivial as some have suggested and was

certainly not harmless. >> you hear the administrators saying they're developing a plan now. well, it's too late now. this happened. shouldn't have happened and it happened. but the punishment far outweighed the crime. >> reporter: and the school board said it will turn over its findings of the investigation over to the district attorney's office in bucks county. we're live in doylestown, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." >> thanks, katherine. the cheltenham school district in montgomery county has acknowledged a hazing incident that occurred back on september 23rd. school officials say players on the boys' soccer team forcefully pulled someone's underwear until it ripped. the district reported it to police and is now retraining students and coaches on all school teams about its zero tolerance policy. >> ♪ >> happening dat mayor of wilmington, delaware is expected to sign an executive order. it will ban smoking in all city parks playgrounds and bus stops. earlier this month city council rejected the proposal in a narrow six to five vote. critics said the ban would

infringe too much on smokes' personal freedom. the mayor argues all residents deserve a healthier cleaner outdoor space. >> 5:38 and today marks two years since superstorm sandy devastated the jersey shore leaving beach communities in ruins. officials in toms river township plan to update the restoration of ortley beach. the township has received more than 3 million onto dollars in recovery funds for businesss to rebuild and for homeowners to elevate their beach front properties. we'll get a full progress report on another hard hit ocean county community coming up in our next half hour. made landfall in brigantine 7:30 p.m. two years ago. >> man, how about that. >> two years ago. >> yup. >> let's take a look at accuweather. >> all right. no such problems today. it's going to be fairly mild again. as we take a look at storm tracker 6 live double scan there is some rain out to the north and west of us ahead of a cold front that's slowly on its way in. but that rain not headed here in the immediate future. looks like it's going to hang out there to the northwest for the morning. your exclusive look at sky 6

this morning and we are looking at the camera bouncing just a bit down the shore. the winds have been up in the low teens right down along the water, still single digit winds and in fact calm winds the farther you come inland. philadelphia's winds right now are calm and the temperature isn't bad. 61 degrees. we may drop a little bit below that over the next couple of hours but generally speaking it is going to be milder than it was the last couple of mornings. i'm going to go ahead and bring in that always on day planner for those of you watching in hd and then we'll show you the details of the forecast right here. future tracker 6 again shows that rain staying off to the north and west into the late morning hours. we might see some sun mixing with clouds during the first part of the day but we are allowing for it to be rather cloudy for a good portion of the day. by 3 o'clock a couple of light sprinkles showing up and then after that the model really not bringing a whole lot through. by 6 o'clock, behind that trailing -- or trailing that front that's coming through we'll see some cloud cover, maybe a couple little sprinkles and showers but obviously not very wet today overall. temperatures, well, take a look at future tracker 6 on this one. we get up to about 12:00,

12:30 and we're probably getting close to our high temperature in the northern and western suburbs. that's 63 in allentown is very close to what we're forecasting and then we go up to about 2 o'clock and philadelphia getting close to the 69-degree high and that cool air after that really does drop those numbers so that by the dinner hour we're probably down to about 59 in philadelphia. the point being that today's high temperatures are going to be on the early side of the day for most of us rather than the late side. 61 degrees in philadelphia by 8 o'clock, 65 by 11 o'clock and that's your high at 2 o'clock, 69 degrees. by 5 o'clock we'll be all the way back down to 61. high temperatures across the region, well. we'll probably be hitting those highs a little after lunchtime in allentown and reading and then down in philadelphia early afternoon. down the shore you'll wait until later this afternoon to get to your mid to upper 60 highs. and then tomorrow speaking of highs, there's a big fat high pressure center behind that front. the flow around it is going to be out of the northwest and that will dip that number down. we'll only get up to about 60 for a high tomorrow. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, 69 today, one more mild one, mostly cloudy,

that far off we have reports of an accident, an accident involving an overturned vehicle on dillworth town road. it is currently blocked near brinton lake so watch for this. you can use street road as your alternate. police have arrived on the scene and dealing with this accident involving an overturned vehicle. so, a difficult situation, 926 street road can get you around that. on the northeast extension northbound we still have construction blocking the right lane between lansdale and quakertown so watch for that one this morning. time for your commuter traffic report and it's that time of year we've been getting lots of reports of animals near the road. we had a few accidents earlier last week with deer on the roads so look for this one on alloway creek neck road in salem county. that one causing a little bit of an issue potentially. how about those temperatures? 53 degrees in martins creek, 60 in warrington, 59 in center city. it's nice and mild. normally our high for this date is 62. we're already in the 60's in lots of spots. in glassboro 63. 65 in buena. 65 in woodbine. 66 already in dover delaware

so very mild today. not as mild as yesterday. a spotty shower around so later on could be a little bit damp in one or two spots. 69 for your high, tam. >> okay, thank you, karen. state police in the poconos came up short while following up on another possible sighting of eric frein. a residents in bear township thought he saw the alleged cop killer along route 390 yesterday. search teams converged on an old inn that's now closed but there was no sign of the suspect. >> now an "action news" exclusive. a woman who gave philadelphia police crucial information that led to the arrest and conviction of a sex officer fender says she has only received a fraction of the reward money. a jury convicted christina regusters back in september of kidnapping and raping a five-year-old girl. more than $100,000 in reward money had been offered including pledges of $30,000 from state senator hardy williams, $10,000 from jerry mondesire the former head of the local chapter of the naacp and another $5,000 from the fraternal order of police. the confidential informant

this afternoon t-shirts for awhile anyway because we are looking at a high getting up close to 70 degrees and then falling a bit after about 2 o'clock. 62 degrees by 9 o'clock. by noon, 66. if you want to run errands up until about 3 o'clock, that's your mild period because today's high 69 degrees is actually going to hit right in here at about 2 o'clock before we start to see those temperatures fall. look for mostly cloudy skies through the day and just a slight chance of a spotty shower. matt and tam. >> okay, thank you, david. turning now to politics. >> ♪ new this morning, the latest 6abc franklin and marshall poll just released shows pennsylvania republican governor tom corbett clipping away a little bit at the big lead of democrat candidate tom wolf. the but wolf continues to maintain a double digit lead. wolf gets 53 percent of the vote while corbett gets 40 percent. about 5 percent are undecided. >> election could get even closer. i mean, floss doubt that it

has the potential given the turnout differential that i'm talking about. if democratic turnout falls short and republicans can fight they have a slight turnout advantage any way, if they could turn out more of their voters they could make the election closer but it would be historic if corbett were to come back from this kind of deficit. >> education and taxes are the issues that voters say are the most important to them in the governor's race. election day is next tuesday. >> 5:53 and coming up all new on "action news," brand new details of what a local babysitter is accused of doing with a baby in her care. that is coming up at are you busy?
