>> ♪ >> "action news." delaware valley's leading news program. with matt o'donnell, tamala edwards, karen rogers and with matt o'donnell, tamala >> ♪ >> good morning. it's 5:00 a.m. on this tuesday, november 4th here's what's happening. >> police are offering a big reward in the search for a woman who was snatched right off of a philadelphia street. >> a journal with violent threats in it leads to a main line high school student's arrest. >> and it's election day in our area. the headline race is the contest for pennsylvania governor. >> we'll get to all of that in a moment but first up let's find out about your tuesday weather and traffic and go to dave murphy and karen rogers much good morning. >> good morning, everybody. it looks like it's going to be a nice election day. starting out with clouds on satellite. there is some breaks in the cloud cover out to the west and as we go through the day, we'll probably start out with more clouds than what we finish with later on.

a mix of clouds and sun overall. as we take a look at temperatures right now, not too bad to start out. 53 degrees in philadelphia. allentown is now dipped into the upper 40's. 53 in reading, 51 in trenton, 50 in wilmington and low 50's along the shore in sea isle and atlantic city. as we head out the door to get that star -- car started, cool not as chilly as windy as the last couple days. as we roll through the day a nice afternoon ahead. 52 degrees by 9 o'clock, 65 by noon. if you have plans to vote any time during the afternoon you're in good shape. 67 is going to be your high right around there at 2 o'clock and then by 3 o'clock, still holding onto 66 and that 59 isn't too bad to take at 6 o'clock considering that the winds are still light. i'll have a more complete look at your voter's forecast today and word that of rain coming on thursday. karen, it's all ahead in the seven day. >> all right, works out well that roads are clear right now with no problems on them. we have construction, though. this is king of prussia 202

southbound and schuylkill westbound, the ramp from the schuylkill westbound to 202 southbound, construction in this area. you see the cones set up but we could also see no delay. really light volume at this early hour so you're not going have a problem with traffic getting by. same situation with construction blocking a lane not east extension near quakertown. traffic still moving by okay. on the big picture we can see blue route, schuylkill, i-95, allly in pretty good shape. new castle county, a ramp has just reopened, the ramp from i-95 southbound to 202. it was closed for overnight construction so things are looking better there. in fact no other problems on i-95, 202, 495 or 13. you're good to go at this early hour, matt and tam. >> thank you karen. philadelphia police hope a big reward and surveillance video will help them to a kidnapper -- lead them to a kidnapper and the woman he brazenly snatched off the street. for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. as family members are pleading for her safe return. this is the victim, 22-year-old carlesha freeland gaither. and this is surveillance video that police released from sunday around 9:40 on colder street in germantown. the suspect parked his car then forced her down the germantown street into his car. police say the suspect was driving a 2000 to 2004 dark gray metallic ford taurus and had an unknown pa tag and missing inspection stickers. police say she managed to kick out the car's rear windows in this struggle. you can see the glass in the street. audio from the surveillance hasn't been released but police say it indicates she does not know her attacker. family members were outputting fliers up trying to figure out what happened. >> she was coming from cousin's party or something, was walking down and she was supposed to call her boyfriend to meet her and she never d.

>> i appreciate everybody's help and concern. bring my daughter back. >> reporter: and last night a police chopper searched the area from the air. cruisers were on the ground looking for clues. the fbi has joined police in this search and again there is a $10,000 reward being offered in this case. if you have any information on this, contact northwest detectives. we have that number for you posted on 6abc.com. we're live at police headquarters, katherine scott, channel6 "action news. >> okay, erin, thank you for that. it's 5:04 an 17 year old radnor high school student is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation. she is also facing charges of making terroristic threats after police found disturbing writeings in here school note books. police say the columbine obsessed girl was arrested at the school yesterday after administrators found out that she wrote about mass shootings in her note books with specific targets being several students and a teacher. she wrote that "i could be the first female school shooter. i want to trap them and pick

them off one by one ." >> she did have a fascination with serial killers and she did a lot of reading about torture but the most disturbing factor is she had a fascination and a keen interest on the columbine shooters. >> the school notified parents about the arrest and also about a male student with autism who has also been taken into custody for making threats. >> ♪ >> polls are hoping soon in the tri-state area and the headline race is for who will govern the state of pennsylvania for the next four years. erin o'hearn is following the battle of the toms live at the big board. hey, erin. >> reporter: hey, matt, that's right, battle of the toms and governor tom corbett has closed in on tom wolf. on average the polls have the democratic challenger up by 11 points. yesterday both candidates making that last push before voters head out to the polls today. for months, corbett has been fully closing in on the substantial gap. he's fighting to win another four year term. if he does not he will be the

first incumbent governor to fail to win reelection in modern pennsylvania history. democrat tom wolf has spent a substantial amount of his own money in his campaign promising to ease the tax burden on the middle class but corbett fired back telling voters he is proud of his accomplishments in office. >> i've kept my promises. you know, we controlled the spending of pennsylvania, we brought fiscal discipline limited government and free interprice. the economy is doing much better than it did four years ago and we were just on the crest of taking off. i want to be able to continue to do that. >> if you care about education, vote, if you care about good jobs, vote, if you care about fairness, vote. >> reporter: voters will certainly have their say today. coming up at 5:30 we will cover some of the national races that have the biggest potential to change the control of the senate. matt, back to you. >> all right, we'll see you then and thanks erin. 6abc.com will begin streaming live results when the polls close at 8:00 p.m. we will also tweet them out with the hashtag 6abc vote.

some cloud cover getting a little bit 36er across the region. i'm seeing some breaks out about, ooh, around york pennsylvania and then out by pittsburgh and i think as we go through the day we are going to see some sunshine breaking through. maybe a little bit more later in the day than what we'll see in the morning. up in allentown overall clouds and sun and a nice day with a high of 66. little bit above average for this i'm sorry. >> early november in allentown and then atlantic city also a pretty nice day. clouds mixing with sun and a high of 67 degrees down the shore. and in philadelphia we'll go for a high of 67 today. clouds giving way top occasional sunshine, maybe little bit more as the day goes on and pretty nice conditions with winds out of the southwest running only about seven to 14 miles per hour. we're already turning those winds out of the west. they probably shift a little more from the southwest as the day goes on. here is your voter's call. at 7 o'clock in pennsylvania when the polls open, of course they open at 6:00 in new jersey, 49 degrees in philadelphia and then by noon, all the way up to 65. so, you don't have to wait long for those numbers to get better. 66 by 3 o'clock.

that will be coming down from our 67-degree high we'll probably hit that around 2 o'clock. then even by dinnertime if you're holding off to vote until after work, 59 degrees, not too bad with winds on the light side. and 57 when the polls close at 8 o'clock, just in case there happens to be a line at your polling station, it's not going to be horrible weather in which to wait. future tracker 6 then shows that you tomorrow is a pretty nice day. we'll see sun, maybe mixing with a few more clouds as the day goes on but mild again ahead of a cold front out to our west but i want to just let future tracker show you what happens on thursday. in the morning, by the time we're on the broadcast, we'll probably be looking at rain beginning to inch in from the west and as we roll in through the afternoon and into the evening, there is the chance of some heavy bands of rain and possible street flooding especially with all those leaves blocking the storm drains. your exclusive accuweather 7-day shows a nice one day. clouds mixing with sun, 67 degrees is your high. tomorrow up to 68 ahead that of front, still pretty nice. cloudy with rain arriving during the morning on thursday, getting steady at times in the afternoon and

>> ♪ >> 5:13. the usual early morning busyness there at philadelphia international airport. it is election day and the polls in new jersey are opening up in about 45 minutes. >> all right, karen, thus far the roads have been looking pretty good. do they still look all right is. >> it's very early so we're doing all right. let's hit the suburbs and check out your suburban traffic report. route 100 at 113 showing no problem right now but from 9:00 until 3:00 each day this week on 100 north worthington road northbound they're going to work on widening the road there so that's going to cause some problems. they're going to block at least a lane so expect in construction 9:00 until 3:00 but at this early hour, nothing. looking good. on the pennsylvania turnpike westbound near willow grove the construction is clear. all lanes opened.

and looking good in atlantic county, 40 westbound near avenue of the pines, we've got some milling work blocking the right lane. that's going to be out there for about another hour so watch for that. let's hit that commuter traffic report which you get to be a part of when you download the free waze app. looking at 55. you can take from up from the shore up towards rowan and heading over maybe the ben franklin or walt whitman bridge. we see lots of construction icons but no problems out there. no accidents showing any issues. so that means you've got a good looking ride. how about the weather? well, no weather related problems are going to affect your commute today in the morning or in the afternoon. it's 53 degrees. 53 at this hour. that feels pretty good. in fact it's about 15 degrees warmer than it was at this point yesterday. we've been seeing a lot of these big swings and one of them is this morning, not too bad out there right now, tam. >> okay, thank you, karen. a camden county man was killed by a tape measure. the bizarre accident happened at a jersey city construction site yesterday morning. authorities say the 1 pound tape measure fell off a worker's belt, dropped 50

stories, bounced off equipment and then onto the victim's head. he was in the wearing a hard hat. police identify the worker as 58 year old gary anderson of somerdale. police dismantled booby traps found in a north philadelphia warehouse yesterday. it all started during a court ordered eviction of a couple in the 1800 block of west sedgley avenue. rowland and charlene mcvicar reportedly told investigators the traps had been set up in order to discourage trespasser. >> flyers start a four game home stand tonight. first up the edmonton oilers. fighting in the nhl by the way is down about 20 percent so far this season. analysts say teams are following the league of the stanley cup champion l.a. kings building their teams with speed in the beef. eagles quarterback nick foles is expected to be out for six to eight weeks. he has a crack in his left collarbone. the eagles only have eight games left in the regular season. while foles is out, mark sanchez will start. the former jets quarterback will get a chance to

53 degrees. we have an update on an "action news" investigation into the nfl concussion lawsuit being heard right here in philadelphia. more than 200 former players or their families have opted out of the proposed settlement. by opting out plaintiffs are able to sue the nfl on their own. nine 9% of players agreed to the deal. the nfl is offering to pay at least $765 million over 65 years over claims the league failed to properly treat brain injuries. >> sometimes when someone is depressed they kind of talk, you know, like this. that's pretty obvious, right? well, some people are trying to develop apps that can determine if someone is depressed through a smartphone. researchers at the university of maryland found that vocal patterns change as feelings of depression worsen and so their speech tends to be breathier and slower and so maybe one day they'll be able to have a program with your phone or somewhere else where you can just simply analyze someone's

on this tuesday. let's go right to dave murphy and karen rogers. good morning. >> big day for folks outdoors as they head into the polls and it looks like it's going to be a decent day for voting or anything else you need to do outside today. we are starting out with a fair amount of cloud cover but it looks like there will be some breaks. you're already seeing that in spots out to the west. overall we expect clouds in there morning to give way to more of a clouds and sun mix as we head into the afternoon. it's not nearly as chilly as it was the last couple mornings. 53 degrees right now philadelphia. we have dipped into the upper 40's in allentown but 48 is not too bad for this time of year. 51 in trenton, 47 in dover, 52 in millville and low 50's down the shore. it's not a lot of wind out there and it is beginning to shift out of the west now and eventually out of the southwest. you can see how it's calm in some spots. philadelphia with the strongest wind right now and that's only 8 miles per hour. i'm forgetting about the poconos at 15 but generally speaking light winds. as we head out the door to catch that school bus or just get the car started looks like will it stay on the cool side but fairly comfortable between 6 and 8 o'clock.
