carlesha freeland gaither expressing her joy tonight, with word that her daughter was alive, and safe, and that the a alleged kidnapper was in custody. it is wednesday night and the big story on "action news" tonight is 22-year old carlesha freeland gaither. she has been found alive and at this hour her mother is on her way to maryland to see her and bring her home. a police van carrying carlesha's family left philadelphia a couple of hours ago, and should soon be a arriving in columbia maryland where carlesha is being treated for relatively minor injuries. this is happy ending to what could have been a catastrophic story. atf agents rescued carlesha in jessup maryland earlier tonight and arrested her alleged abductor, 37 year-old delven barnes. barnes is currently wanted on attempted murder charges, in virginia. and was actually quick of aggravated assault in philadelphia nine years ago. moton is live in maryland and annie mccormack is in germantown the scene of the abduction and sharrie williams is live at north west detective headquarters in logan. sharrie, it was unusual to see a police news conference like we did earlier tonight where police were smiling with such satisfaction. >> reporter: unusual, jim, because we have covered so many of these stories and often times, they end in heart break. very rarely, is there a happy ending. it took a lot of manpower and a lot of man hours and it crossed state lines, tonight, philadelphia police commissioner calling the suspect kidnapper a thug. >> we are so thankful. i'm so happy. thank you for all of the prayers, all of the care and love. >> reporter: family relieved and counting its blessings tonight their loved one carlesha free land gaither ace live and well. >> you hope, you hope, you hope, but you don't know until you are able to get her, and make sure that she's okay.

>> reporter: sunday the 22-year old was aggressively dragged down colter street in philadelphia's germantown section, placedded in a car and kidnaped. with the help of surveillance camera and use of carlesha's stolen atm card clues began to pour in as to who the kidnapper may be. >> we were able to identify this individual, identify his car, and track it, into maryland. >> reporter: the suspect turned out to be 37 year-old delven barnes, who has a known philadelphia address and a history of violent crime but philadelphia police say that the abduction appears to be a random act. >> as of right now there is no relation that they know each other, right now we're just taking it on as a stranger investigation. >> reporter: barnes car was spotted this afternoon in a parking lot in jessup, maryland. atf agents had surveillance on barnes for about a half an hour before they moved in. carlesha was inside the car as well. the 22-year old has only minor injuries and is doing fine

was very emotionally distraught. >> reporter: agent timothy jones, found his four men and one woman got a tip and discover a car in the parking lot the in the shopping center just off of 95. plastic was covering that window gaither kick out during her abduction but agents were still able to get eyes on the man and woman inside. agents say at first both were sitting on the passenger side, and then barnes moved into the driver's seat. >> for fear of him driving away before we could detain him and determine if that was actually our abduction victim the agents at that point moved in. >> reporter: jones said agents surrounded the vehicle taking down barnes without incident. >> it was fantastic because i was actually on the phone with the detective from the philadelphia police department and it was one of those moments where we were very happy that luck was in our favor. >> reporter: gaither was rush to nearby howard county general hospital for her injuries. but she was safe. >> that is huge. i'm so glad that she's found. found safe?

sheet that rivals that of some career criminals. tonight a "action news" spoke to his uncle who said he is not surprised about his nephew's arrest. >> i feel sorry for my brother and his wife. they don't deserve this. >> reporter: lemar barnes does in the know latest accusation as begins his nephew delven are true but he knows he has made bad choice necessary life. >> from my experience and knowledge of him, he has a thing about women, female. >> reporter: according to the pennsylvania state board of probation and parole, the now 37 year-old has three prison sentences in pennsylvania, under his belt. this is video of him in 2005, soon after he served his most recent sentence completing the maximum of eight years for aggravated assault. he was released in in of 2013. today officials are holding him on a warrant out of virginia, for attempted capitol murder, abduction, forceable rape and other charges. according to abc news, officials say a woman was
