crews are on the scene blocking peach street near masters street. stick to thompson to avoid any problems there. there's no congestion in south philadelphia just yet, the you know it's coming with the flyers playing tonight. take the sports express trains. >> we begin with the breaking news on the rescue of carlesha freeland-gaither. overnight the kidnapping victim was finally reunited from her family and released from a maryland hospital. katherine scott is live now at northwest detectives to give you the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, carlesha freeland-gaither is back home in philadelphia her family is overjoyed. her cows just spoke to "action news" so relieved how the investigation turned out. for days, investigators at the northwest detective division have been working with local authorities in maryland, as well as federal authorities to track her down. last night you could see her parents coming out of the hospital in maryland after they

reunited with their daughter. for days they have been pleading for her safe return. police say 22-year-old carlesha freeland-gaither did have some injuries, but she was generally doing okay. her family stood with investigators last night after they announced she was found safe in jessup maryland after the violent kidnapping was caught on surveillance. her cousin said they were praying that should come home safe. >> the first 24 hours is the most crucial hours in any type of case like this. but when you have god on your side, anything can happen. >> again, police say she did have some injuries, but she is generally doing okay, bus there's a lot of psychological

trauma involved, she is back home so they can recover. >> reporter: walter perez is live in jessup maryland where delvin barns was captured. >> reporter: despite reports to the contrary, abc news confirmed there was a struggle when law enforcement came to this parking lot in maryland. police say it was a bad situation, and carlesha freeland-gaither was distraught as you can imagine. still the outcome was a positive one all the results of good police work. delvin barns is a 37-year-old map and no stranger to law enforcement. this video shows him back in 2005 after he served 8 years for aggravated assault. he was released from his most recent prison term a year ago. barns already had three prison terms under his belt.

the suspect's uncle said his nephew made bad choices in life to say the least. >> he has a thing about women or females. >> reporter: the missing person case involving carlesha freeland-gaither was involved last night thanks to these atf agents. they were the ones responding to the tip call about this car matching the description of a vehicle in the parking lot in jessup maryland. the agents surrounded the vehicle and brought barns down while bringing carlesha freeland-gaither to safety. >> i was on the phone with the detective from the philadelphia police department and it was one of those moments where we were very happy that luck was in our favor. >> reporter: meantime, barns is being held on a bunch of charges including federal charges, warrant out of virginia for attempted murder, rape and abduction.

another of barges' alleged victims out of richmond said he abducted her and held her for two days and showed her photos of women he allegedly abducted. walter perez channel 6 "action news." >> the bottom dollar grocery chain is closing it's doors and selling to aldi. bottom dollar expect to keeps the doors open until the end of the year, after that they will be shut down and 2200 employees will be offered severance. >> emotions ran high over the future of a former golf course in chester county. residents made it clear they do not agree with the new zoning ordinance to make way for the new athletic fields. they will cut down hands of

video of a wild police chase overseas. officers were in pursuit of the two suspects when one of men started throwing packages out of the window. it turned out to be heroin worth $320,000. the chase continued for a half-hour before the police stopped the car and arrested the men. workers have been busy instructing an access route as the slow-moving lava continues it's slow pursuit on the big island. the national park service has agreed to accommodate two-way traffic on an alternate route. >> the flyers will host the panthers without their leading scorer. michael waffle will be out 6 weeks for a lower body injury. he scored 6 goals in the team's 12 games. big loss. the sixers and magic were winless when they faced each
