"action news" reporter, katherine scott has new reaction from carlesha freeland-gaither's family. >> reporter: carlesha arrived here early this morning and her family says she has been inside ever since getting some rest. her family is so grateful she is home safe and carlesha is grateful for all the help she received over the last couple of days. >> she is happy to be back home and happy to be safe. >> reporter: back in philadelphia safe and sound, carlesha freeland-gaither rescued in maryland nearly 72 hours after being abducted from a german town street. >> carlesha wants to thank everybody for your support and to have her home safely home with her family is all that matters. >> last night her parents left this maryland hospital after

caused an evacuation in old city. after a contractor hit a gas line. john rawlins live at the scene and joins us with the very latest. >> reporter: hi rick, ray street is open now, there were intense moments earlier today, gas was burning and emergency crews came running. a small gas flame near a contractors trench, it didn't get very big but got everybody's attention. >> about 3 feet above the trench level. it wasn't spurting or anything, just a slow roast. >> firefighters responded and 24 people were evacuated from two nearby building as pgw crews worked to stop the fuel source. >> the spark call it to ignite. >> initially it was thought that an 8 inch high pressure main was struck but then it was

little bit of moisture exiting around belmar, and north ocean county. looking to the west on satellite and radar, can't rule out the sun poking out here and there and eventually this additional shower activity will make its way to the east and by 4:00 or 5:00, i'd be on the lookout for another shower, and spill off to the northeast. so far the rainfall is not all that impressive. we have .38 inches in philadelphia and a half inch in wilmington. the rain was not the steadiest you'll ever see but oppressive and continuing and hitting all through the length of the rush hour. not that it was a heavy pounding rain. for the rest of the day, between now until 4:00, not all that much happening maybe even some break in the clouds. but as we get up towards 6:00, we could see more showers moving in and by the time cecily and

travel demand looked to be strong for the holidays this year and the industry's major trade organization predicts that 46 million people will fly on u.s. airlines for thanksgiving, that is a 1.5% increase from last year. the prices are up with the average ticket costing 2% more. the best day to fly is on thanksgiving, it will be the least congested and the best day to get a deal.

scan right now shows you we have less rain out there, what is actively falling is off the coast of south jersey at this point. cloudy skies hanging very tough and low lying cloud cover too, not really seeing a lot of fog reported but it's rather gray and rather damp. as we look at your highlights of the forecast, today is a damp one with another round of spotty showers possible in the later afternoon and evening, tomorrow drier overall and cooler and windy. 50 degrees is your current temperature as you head outside. even though there isn't a lot of active rain bundle up with a jacket. winds east-northeast at 11 miles per hour. not all that strong. temperatures from north to south, a little bit a variation, wind off the ocean and temperatures on the mild side. 63 in wildwood and millville.

and upper 40s in allentown and reading. future tracker 6 shows you not a lot going on, and by 3:00 there could be another shower or two building in and i sent the kids to school with umbrellas and rain gear, and if they get caught in this coming home this is not an issue for everybody. as we get into 6:00, parts of the region and down to the south could be there with additional showers for the rush hour and by 10:00 -- 10:30, we may still have a couple of showers to show you, but not as much rain then as this morning. 55 is your high in allentown today, cloudy and cool and we can't rule out a spotty showers but probably dry most of the way. and down the shore a chance of showers and high of 58 degrees this afternoon. as we take a look at philadelphia's call, it is going to be a cooler one with a high of just 60 degrees, cloudy and

and a daddy daughter reunion more than a month in the making. we begin with breaking news out of chester county. prosecutors have just revealed disturbing new details in the gruesome torture and death of a 3-year-old boy, the child's own mother is among those that investigators say has confessed to the crime. vernon odom is live in westchester with the latest on the news conference that wrapped up moments ago. >> reporter: law enforcement veterans here tell me they have never seen a child abuse murder case like this ever before in their experience. incredibly ghastly brutality. they are in the chester county prison today facing murder and abuse charms. they were living in a trailer park. they say they beat tate's son

scotty to death using homemade weapons, a whip, a curtain rod. >> little scotty mcmillan is dead. over a three-day period last week, he was systematically tortured and beaten to death. he was punched in the face and stomach. he was scourged with a homemade whip and lashed with a metal rod, he was tied to a chair and beaten. he was tied upside down by his feet and beaten. his head was smash through a wall. >> now tate's other child a 6-year-old boy is placed with relatives, the d.a. says he will seek the death penalty for the

two suspects here. he lived with tate the girlfriend and his own wife amber, he is charged with endangering the welfare of a child. vernon odom, channel 6 "action news." thank you vernon. >> now to the latest on the developments on the miracle in maryland, carlesha freeland-gaither is home safe as her suspected kidnapper awaits his first appearance in court. delvin barnes is accused of abducting her in philadelphia and it came to a close in maryland last night. david henry is live now with the latest in the logan section. >> reporter: rick, the happy news is that she was recovered and police have a lot of backtracking to do and a lot of loose ends to tie up. they are trying to figure out

how long delvin young was in the area. and comparing notes of other jurisdictions of unsolved crimes they may be able to pin to him. >> i have been around a long time, and that is the first time i have actually seen a kidnapping on video. >> it was video seen around the world, it was also followed by surveillance video of a suspect, take and before and after the abduction. the suspect delvin barnes was identified by police in virginia, as the man they had been seeking with a similar crime and the car dealer that sold him the car recognized him. the dealer put a gps tracker on the device fearing barnes would default on the loan. that is how they closed in on

him. they are searching the car today and philadelphia police is also interviewing carlesha freeland-gaither. >> we'll do a more thorough interview with her later on after she has had a chance to settle down and be with her family. >> it may be a year or more before barnes is returned to philadelphia to face charges here, he will be sent to virginia first where he is facing attempted murder and rape charges that is connection with the case of a 16-year-old girl he allegedly kidnapped there and he will face charges in the philadelphia case and tried in federal court after the virginia case is tried. authorities say he is likely to spend the rest of his life in jail. >> the bottom line is that it doesn't matter, whichever direction he goes, philly or virginia. his last moment of freedom was last night. >> delvin barnes last known address was a motel in richmond,

a cool dreary day across the lehigh valley, sky 6 hd looking live over philadelphia international airport where it's foggy and gray and you can't rule out another round of rain later today, meteorologist, david murphy is tracking it live at the big board. >> mainly dry out there right now sara, i'm detecting something popping up on the perimeter on the radar scan in gettysburg, there are sprinkles and showers on the way, on stormtracker 6 live double scan showing you that most of the morning rain that we just dealt with is off the coast but out to the west there is a good collection of other bits and pieces of precipitation that will probably come in and maybe build a little bit as we go towards the late afternoon and evening hours. so far only a third inch of rain in philadelphia, a half inch in wilmington and the models say on top of this in the afternoon and evening we could add another third to half inch of rain. when you add that together, you

get the half inch to inch total for this event. temperatures are cool, just 51 in philadelphia, and 51 in wilmington and 47 in allentown and 49 in sea isle city, and these numbers represent a good drop from this time to yesterday, we are 15 degrees cooler in philadelphia from yesterday. as we go through the rest of day, we are looking at a 2:00 temperature looking at 60 degrees, that is your high today and by 4:00 we'll be similar at 59 degrees, and after 4:00 there is a chance of more spotty showers some of which could produce decent downpours for a shoert time and then after 8:00 the rain dies down a bit and the temperatures drop and we are in the 40s by the time we get up tomorrow morning. it's a strong gusty wind in play tomorrow guys, once we get rid of the rain, tomorrow will be a

for the first time in more than two weeks, pro democracy protesters are clashing with police in hong kong, the skirmishes lasted two days. this is in protest for hong kong's next leader. and in hawaii they are constructing an emergency result for people in the lava's path, the lava is expected to flow over the main road in the village of pahoa. closing arguments are expected today in the murder trial of a pittsburgh scientist, dr. ferranty is accused of poisoning his wife.
