>> carlesha freeland-gaither is now safe with her family tonight and we are hearing more from the heros that made that possible. meanwhile, the man accused of abducting her is waiting extradition to virginia where he is wanted for another heinous kidnapping and rape. until he is extradited he will remain in the baltimore county detention center but the virginia authorities have five days to pick him up and they could move him as early as tonight. reporter annie mccormick is outside of carlesha's mother's home but lets begin with sara bloomquist she just heard from the lead detective in this case. sara? >> reporter: detectives here are working to compile all the evidence, they will reinterview carlesha after she had time to rest and is feeling more comfortable. we heard from the lead

investigator on this case and he described the moment he walked into carlesha's hospital room in maryland and saw her safe and sound for the very first time. >> entered the room and she was upset and i just told her i have been looking for you and she started crying and her mom hugged her and her father embraced her. it was a touching moment. >> reporter: now, commissioner charles ramsey credited the surveillance video tip and determined detectives for getting what he calls a bad guy off the street. 37-year-old delvin barnes made his initial court appearance in maryland this afternoon and the judge ordered him to be expedited to virginia where he is wanted in connection of the abduction of a 16-year-old girl last month. soon he will be charged with the

abduction of carlesha freeland-gaither, the kidnapping was captured on this chilly video watched around the world. >> he is not getting out of custody no matter which direction he goes. >> he is not getting out, his last moment of freedom was last night. >> he was caught on cameras before before and after the abduction. >> a detective in virginia recognized the suspect's ford taurus and he asked thor dealer to put on a gps tracking device. barnes was in the car with carlesha freeland-gaither and when he got out investigators pounced. >> investigators say that carlesha freeland-gaither showed courage, she found a hammer in the car and used that to smash out the back window, he was

injured and kept his head covered in public and she told authorities that she purposefully dropped her phone at the scene of the abduction and gave barness her debit card and pin hoping it would help authorities find her and now they are combing through cold cases to see if there may be any connection to delvin barnes. >> this is a bad guy there is no question about it, he is off the street and needs to be off the street for the rest of his life. there is a great sense of relief here tonight that the victim is home safe and sound and a suspect is behind bars, now investigators have work to do to make sure he never walks free again, i'm sara bloomquist, channel 6 "action news." >> sara thank you. lets switch live to north philadelphia, annie mccormick has more from some of carlesha's loved ones tonight.

>> this is a young woman that has a tremendous amount of love and support not just from the community, but from her family and friends many of whom were stopping by her mother's home today. originally the family said they would have a press conference at 6:00 to address the media but they changed their mind. the police say that the family is grateful and thankful that their girl is brought home but right now they are overwhelmed. this is the 2100 block, relatives and friends of carlesha freeland-gaither fiercely protecting her privacy. >> give us some time to get ourselves together. >> her sister's boyfriend telling "action news" this, after visiting the family home thursday afternoon. >> she supstairs with her mother and that is all i can tell you really. she is okay and excited to be home with her family.

and has one lightning strike with it, it's really the wind and not the lightning that we are dealing with, lighter showers to the west and thunderstorm warnings set to etch pirate the bottom of the hour we'll see if it extends a bill lit from ocean city, stone harbor, and atlantic city the storm is way to your north, it travels all the way down to cape may county, it's from ocean city, tuckahoe, are you seeing that heavy rainfall and again only one lightning strike, it's the rush of wind that is severe with this particular cell, with winds in excess of 60 miles per hour. speeds of 50 miles per hour, heading to absecon and mays landing and tuckahoe and south of ocean city, that is the v line for this particular thunderstorm. it will be off the coast as we move into the next 5
