>> good morning it is 7:00 a.m. on this sunday, november 9. here's what's happening on0 a.m. "action news." temperatures are taking another rollercoaster ride. after a warmup, the bottom will drop out and the coldest air of the season will move in. >> it's been an amazing two years, i learned a lot, i grew a lot, lost a lot of weight. >> free at last, two americans arrive home after being repleased from detention in north korea. >> a teenager pulled a philadelphia police officer from his burning patrol car and the teen is talking to "action news." >> a wild ride for our weather. temperatures are crashing by the end of the week. let's go outside to meteorologist chris sowers. >> reporter: hi, nydia. it's not too bad out here. temperatures wise, every location above freezing. poconos 33 degrees. allentown, 37. philadelphia, 46. trenton, 41.

millville, 42. wilmington, 40 and the 24 hour temperature change is impressive, anywhere from 7 to 17 degrees milder than where we were yesterday at this time. so you do the math where the numbers are right now that means we were down in the 20s and 30s for morning lows yesterday. you can see the numbers starting to improve. we got to get this cloud cover out of here and the sun will shine brightly and the sky conditions improve. we'll see a little bit of moisture toward the top of the scene running through the great lake states and the western portions of new england. that should miss us to the north. that's another cold front that will slip through here. fortunately this time that cold front the air behind is not too terribly cold. we'll see clouds through 9:00. we'll see high, thin clouds. the sun may shine through that actually. 48 degrees. le lunchtime, 54. increase in sunshine. 3:00 p.m., a nice looking afternoon, 56 degrees in

nightclub. a man pulled out a gun and shot at the guards. the guards shot back. the man was shot in the shoulder and hand and the gunfire caused the car to breakdown on the ramp from broad street to i-95 north. the man's girlfriend works at the club. >> a philadelphia police officer is alive this morning because of the heroic efforts of a teenager who pulled the officer from his burning car. 17-year-old joseph chambers is a volunteer firefighter for ridley township. the teen was visiting his sister when the two of them heard a loud bang. chambers ran outside and saw that a patrol car and pick up ran into each other. the patrol car was starting to burn. he ran up to mark kinsey who was trapped in the car.

>> i said can you get out. he said i can't feel ply legs -- my legs, his door was jammed shut. i said i have to get you out of window. >> after he got him out of the car the entire vehicle burst into flames. the officer is in the hospital, but is going to be okay. chamber pulled a passenger out of the pick up, he is being treated at the hospital of the university of pennsylvania. the driver of the pick up ran off. police have not found that person. >> philadelphia police are investigating a late-night armed robbery of a pizza shop. "action news" was there on the 7400 block of drexel road in overbrook park. police say a man carrying a gun entered the shop and demanded money. the suspect ran off with the cash. nobody was hurt during the robbery. >> much more to come on "action news" sunday morning. >> vandal loolt -- loot a local

expected to be as cold as yesterday. sky6 live hd showing a view of the philadelphia international airport. looking east we're seeing clouds, looking west we're starting to pick up holes in the clouds. it will be a nice, bright sunny afternoon. maybe a few clouds mixed in later on, but we're expecting sunshine as the day progresses. the only moisture we're seeing in the northeast is up towards buffalo. we don't expect that to get in here over the next 24 hours. 46 degrees degrees in philadelp. dewpoint, 38. the winds are light out of the west at 3 miles per hour. pressure reading 29.96 inches. the numbers themselves are very, very mild compared to the same time yesterday. reading 35, you were down to 25 or 26 the same time yesterday. allentown, 37. trenton, 41. millville, 42 and sea isle city not too bad, 48 degrees.

you can see windchill wise there's not much of a breeze. windchill numbers are in the same ballpark as the actual air temperatures. here's a look at the air temperatures. reading 35, allentown, 37. philadelphia, 46 the windchills 35, 37, 46. we're not seeing much of a wind so we're not seeing those harsh conditions. satellite and radar showing a little bit of cloud cover across the mid atlantic states. we should break for sunshine later on. the wider view across the country we go there's not much to talk about, the only big player out there is this big polar front. we have watches and weren't storm warnings for the higher plains. this charges east wednesday, thursday, friday and should eat the eastern seaboard by wednesday night. omaha 37, witch at that, 44 wichita, 44.

later this afternoon, as we look at future tracker 6. all the moisture stays to the north and west. we get into monday, same thing winds out of the southwest we're up in the 60s and then we get into tuesday. tuesday is milder with a strengthing southwesterly breeze. tuesday locations could get as warm as 66 or 67 degrees. in the meantime here's the forecasted high for today. 56 degrees, monday look at that we're up to 60 to 62 at least that's what the forecast models are suggesting. upper 50s north and west. the temperatures will climb first and then they will start to fall off a cliff later on. clouds and sun, that's the forecasted call from accuweather. slightly milder today. yesterday's high, 50. trenton, 56. allentown, 55. millville, 57. will also, 59 degrees. as we look at it hour by hour, lunchtime, 54. you'll note that increase in sunshine as the day wears on.

the red cross says it is helping 18 people displaced by a fire in chester.cross says it is helping the fire tore through the home on east 23rd street at 7:30 p.m. another home sustained damage. firefighters worked for about an hour to get this under control. no word on how the fire started. >> three people looted and vandalized a philadelphia charter school and it was caught on camera. school officials say what they did it was not only criminal, it disrespectful and disgusting. >> reporter: police say the three men caught on tape are responsible for vandalism and theft of thousands of dollars of school supplies of the charter school in olney. police believe this man is a

teenager, but they believe this man could be in his 20s or 30s. >> this is something nobody wants to see. >> reporter: early saturday morning school maintenance workers discovered the mess including ripped apart rooms and classrooms and fundraising money raised from candy sales. they deficated and european urinated. thomas garden is the chief operating officer of the school. this houses k to 8 grades. everyday they feed breakfasts fast and lunch to the 800 children. the damage is estimated in the

temperatures will be milder. we're shooting for a high of 56 degrees, not 50. we'll reach that at 3:00 p.m. later this week we'll see a huge change in the jet stream. there's a huge storm in alaska that will be coming down canada into the lower 48 that will set the jet stream this way and the concern is this for the up coming winter season. we'll have a split in the jet. the northern one sits up here, this controls all the cold air, this one controls all the moisture. what we think will happen this winter season, if it stays like this. we'll have mild weather run across the u.s., and basically the winter weather is nonexist ant. the northern branch will go like this. the southern branch will link up with the eastern seaboard and voila we'll get big storms off the coast of cape hatteras.

later today. yesterday, philadelphia topped out at 50 degrees. clouds and sun, fairly chilly for this this time of year, the normal is 60. we'll go 56. it will feel better out here. we're not expecting much of a breeze, so it won't be hardware hardware -- harsh. monday and tuesday, it's milder, temperatures back in the 60s. here comes the arctic front. it will be the coldest air of the season so far, not one, not, two, not three, we could have seven straight days where high temperatures are stuck in the 40s and the lows will be colder than that. that will be the true taste of arctic chill from old man winter. it arrives wednesday evening in the delaware valley. i'll have that when i step back inside in just a bit. >> new this morning, police are looking for the killer who gunned down a woman on the street in the tioga nicetown section of philadelphia. the action cam was at the scene,

16th and rowan walk. gunfire broke out before midnight. the victim was shot repeatedly and pronounced at the scene. investigators have not said if they have any motives or suspects in the case. police are shedding new light on the shooting of a temple university student on campus. the student is out of the hospital. police know what the motive is and what the victim did when he was threatened. >> reporter: the temple student was shot we're not releasing his name. i can report he walked out of the hospital on crutches. he wasn't ready to talk on camera, but he appeared to be in good spirits. "action news" was there as the 19-year-old temple university student was released from hahnemann university hospital. nearly 24 hours after he was shot during an attempted robbery. >> cops came and dragged him out of the house and took him off in the police car and shut down the street. >> reporter: saturday night came increased security and police

patrol also. friday night students were robbed and later around 1:00 a.m., the shooting both on the 1500 block of north 17th street. >> i'm shocked, my bike was robbed that would be the worse that happen on the block. >> reporter: investigators say the 19-year-old shooting victim and another student were on the stoop outside the party. a man came up and said give me everything you got and lifted his shirt to show off his handgun. the victim tried to tackle him, the gunman was quick are -- quicker. he fired once and hit the student in the upper leg. >> my roommate heard gun shots. it got quiet and the music stopped. >> reporter: the shooter was described as 35 to 40-year-old man thin red sweatshirt and red

grandfather enlisted in the army at age 34. they all came home safe and sound. this is from karen wilson. this is from 1958. their assignment was to construct a water tower. she said my father joined the navy in 1952, served his country during peace time and worked on is he philly shipyard until it closed. thank you for sharing all these great stories and photos with us, we love seeing them and reading them we'll remember all of your loved ones on tuesday veterans day. >> the nurse who fought against a ebola guarden teen order is moving. kasi hickcox is moving outside her home state of mane. she was isolated after treating ebola patients in west africa.

country. this will move farther to the north and dip to the south. what that means, nice and mild across the western half of the yieltdz. nice and cold across the eastern two-thirds of the united states. it's like a seesaw. when it goes up here it's mild and down here it's cold and vials verse is a. if you're not a big weather fan, we'll see colder weather move in here. the surface map is showing a weak cold front pull through. the air behind it is pacific in origin we're not talking about weather that's not too chilly. clouds early. sun this afternoon. temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. monday, high pressure in control lots of sunshine and back in the 60s. a nice quiet weather pattern for now. lehigh valley sun chilly. 55 degrees is the forecasted high today. jersey shore the clouds hold on a little bit longer probably to midday, 1:00 or so.
