it happened in the southbound lanes near old lincoln highway. we're trying to figure out just how badly this victim was hurt. meanwhile as you might imagine this road is closed in this area. >> karen with an update in a moment. first dave murphy with updates on the fog out there. good morning. >> good morning. no fog here on the terrace, that's nice but it is an issue in parts of the area especially closer to south jersey as we take a look at satellite and radar you can see some cloud cover across the entire region right now. some breaks out to the west eventually we will see some sun. but this morning there is that fog and we've got a dense fog advisory in all those counties down by the coast and another one out to the west of wilmington. there could be counties added to this but for now this is where the fog is at also -- it's worst. in philadelphia the visibilities have started to drop. we were at 10 miles about an hour and a half ago then down to five now down to three but so far that's not thick enough fog to really hinder you too much on the roadways. if you do happen to be up around trenton though and down toward millville and wow dover

zero visibility right now at dover air force base you really do have to take it slow. animals and pedestrians are going to be very hard to see as well as abandoned cars or stalled cars. 57 degrees in philadelphia right now. 58 degrees in wilmington. 52 in allentown. the other part of the story this morning is obviously how unseasonably mild we are beginning and as we head out to the bus stop this morning over the next couple of hours, it's cool enough for a jacket or a sweatshirt but mid-50's is pretty good for mid-november. some fog in parts of the region as you just saw. and as we roll through the rest of the day, we're going to get one more mild one out of this here weird stretch of november weather. we're going to get up to 66, probably around 2 o'clock but by 3 o'clock you can see we're down to 64 and by 6:00 winds pick up and we plunge to 53. speaking of plunging, tomorrow morning is going to be winter coat time in a lot of the parts of the region. more on that when we step inside with the complete accuweather 7-day forecast karen. >> all right dave. more on this breaking news story in bensalem bucks county.

the action cam is on the scene. an accident involving a pedestrian, a serious accident right now causing problems. look at the number of emergency workers out there right now. this is all happening on route 1 southbound. it has blocked officially right near old lincoln highway. you see crews out there dealing with this accident. it was involving a pedestrian right across from the lincoln motel near the wawa there so this was an area we detected fog about a half hour or so and looking at that right now you see only maybe a touch of it at the moment but this is -- stick to bustleton pike or hulmeville road instead. one southbound is shut down at old lincoln highway an accident scene involving a pedestrian. it's not our own problem out there. the action cam has been busy this morning. it was on the scene in northeast philadelphia. this is cottman avenue blocked between algon avenue and summerdale avenue right by northeast high school. look at the damage done to that car. those two cars collided so much that that car, the force of it went right onto the grass of the high school there in northeast philadelphia. so cottman avenue is still blocked at this point. you see the debris all over the roadway. it was a serious accident with

injuries. if you're in this area instead of cottman stick to rhawn street or levick street and whitaker avenue or use castor avenue instead. a couple alternates to deal with that closure out there. another accident involving a deer here. it's been a difficult morning in some of the communities. you need to be careful. we have accidents involving pedestrians deer and fog out there kind of reducing visibility in some spots. deep creek road blocked at layfield road. one thing i want to show you. we're detectorring heavy traffic unusually so in new jersey. 42 northbound, we've got an accident 295 northbound approaching 168 blocking the left lane. this is just coming in right now and that's why you're seeing this backup on 42. also an area where you're detecting some of that fog, tam. >> okay, thank you, karen. we're learning more about a man who was shot and killed in philadelphia over the week. it turns out he was the father of the l.a. lakers wayne ellington. working to find whoever is responsible. the basketball star spoke to "action news." he said he heard about his father right after a game on sunday. the news still hasn't sunk in. >> for a son to lose his father, it's very tough. >> reporter: right after l.a. lakers guard wayne ellington played in his team's first win of the season sunday night, he heard the news. his father, wayne ellington sr. had been shot and killed back in philadelphia. like always, he had just heard from his father right before the game. >> he text me like he always does before a game. just said ball hard. get this first win tonight. >> reporter: philadelphia police say ellington sr. was found inside his car on the 5200 block of marion street in germantown just after 8:00 p.m. he had been shot in the head. >> he was smart. he was funny. and he loved his family a lot. >> reporter: ellington jr. explains his father played a huge role in his basketball career, first putting a ball

in his hands at five years old. he later was a standout player at episcopal academy, went on to play at u in. c before being drafted. his father would always text him before his games. sunday was the last time. >> i don't think it really set in to me yet that my next game my dad is not going to text me because somebody decided to take his life. >> reporter: and again so far there have been no arrests in this case. ellington is on leave from the team while he grieves with his family. we're live at police headquarters, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." >> thanks for the update, katherine. and happening today kidnapping suspect delvin barnes will face a federal judge. barnes is the man accused of abducting a woman off a germantown sidewalk earlier this month. erin o'hearn joins us live in the satellite center with more on this. good morning, erinism good morning, matt. the 37-year-old was brought to philadelphia yesterday from virginia. that is where he is accused of abducting a 16-year-old girl.

but first of course he will face a federal judge here in philadelphia this afternoon on kidnapping charges and perhaps be assigned a lawyer. now, barnes has been in custody since last week. of course authorities believe he is the man seen in this disturbing video abducting 22-year-old carleesha freeland-gaither after she had gotten off a bus. a witness said she kicked out the rear window as she fought with her attacker. federal investigators used a gps device placed in barnes car by a used car dealer to help locate the vehicle and rescue freeland-gaither three days later. again, barnes is expected to be in court today on kidnapping charges. we'll update the story throughout the day as there are more developments. live in the satellite center, erin o'hearn channel6 "action news." back to you tam. >> erin thank. it is now 6:07. happening dat first person will be sentenced under pennsylvania's brad fox straw purchase law. stacy dawson of chester will be sentenced today for the straw purchase of two guns for her boyfriend, a convicted

felon. the brad fox law is named for the plymouth township police officer, the gunman who killed officer fox got his weapon through a straw purchase. the law mandates a minimum sentence of five years in prison for individuals who are convicted a second time of straw purchasing guns. >> open on thanksgiving evening or pay a fine. that is the order coming from the owner of a mall in upstate new york. maribel aber has the story in our market watch report live at the nasdaq in times square. here we go again, maribel. >> reporter: here we go, matt. well, new york mall is threatening its stores with fines if they don't open on thanksgiving. the mall near buffalo is opening at 6:00 p.m. on the holiday and it's reportedly telling tenants they'll be fined if they don't open their stores. one small business owner in the mall said the fine is substantial enough to force him to open on the holiday. the small so far has not responded. stocks real quick inched higher tuesday with the dow and the s & p 500 hitting new highs. right now futures pointing to a lower open. that's the latest in business

news. back over to you matt and tam. >> thanks maribel. see you tomorrow. >> it's this nice out there today. walk outside, not so bad but tomorrow you'll just go b are rr. >> yeah pretty much and even later today and tonight we'll feel that change. storm tracker 6 live double scan shows you we're precipitation free. we have thick dense fog formed down by the coast. those areas highlighted in orange and red represent visibilities under a quarter mile maybe worse than that in spots. in dover we had a zero visibility reading a short time ago and philadelphia we're starting to see a little bit of this creep closer but so far not a real big problem in the immediate region. as we take a look outside we have the platt bridge. looks a little misty there but no fog that's anywhere near thick enough to give you a problem. if you run into thick fog though or if this changes slow down. it's mild to start out, 57 degrees in philadelphia right now. even up in allentown 52. that's not too bad. 55 in trenton. 58 in wilmington and a pair of 58's in sea isle and at the boardwalk in atlantic city. satellite showing you the low lying cloud cover that has

formed across the region. and we do have some breaks out to the west. we will transition from this after about 9 or 10 o'clock to at least partly sunny skies later on today and that precipitation out to the west appears to be falling apart before it gets here. up in allentown today we're going for a seasonably mild high of 63. still on the cool side but better than it often is this time of year with that mix of clouds and sun. at the shore, fog in the morning and then we'll break that up after about 10 o'clock or so. we'll see some sun come back during the day and it will be mild with a high of 66 degrees. in philadelphia we're going to go for a high of 66, clouds giving way to some more sun, the morning fog is possible here or there. most of it is over south jersey and delaware right now, though. winds out of the northwest at eight to 16 miles per hour. and that's going to represent a change. right now not much wind and the winds are still kind of coming up from the south but as a front passes we will see those winds pick up and it will get cooler later today. 56 degrees by 8 o'clock, 60 by 11 o'clock. your high of 66 hits at 1:30 or 2:00 but then after that we start to gradually dip and by

workers we have here. stick to bustleton pike or hulmeville road as your alternate to deal with that. an accident right by northeast high school here. this is cottman avenue. look at this car. the two cars collided with such force the other car went into the grass. cottman avenue shut down between algon avenue and summerdale that's a big deal for your morning commute. stick rhawn or levick which it kerr or castor avenue. visibility .8 in philadelphia. we have been watching this fog as it migrates closer to the city and now affecting you here in philadelphia. 1.5-mile visibility in wilmington but 0-mile visibility in dover, .3 in millville and trenton and just a quarter mile visibility along the coastline so the fog really impacting your morning commute. as we look in new jersey, some of the spots we're seeing the worst of the fog, you get that idea as you look at 42. look at this northbound traffic. you can see how jammed it is on 42 and that's because we've got an accident up ahead on 295 at 168. it's blocking the left lane. and with that lane blocked,

you get 295 jammed, you get the jam-up on 42 so that's what you're dealing with this morning and also speed restrictions on the new jersey turnpike past exit seven down to 45 miles an hour, matt. >> thanks karen. this is new at 6:00 residents of a delaware county apartment building are forced out of their units right now because of an overnight fire. it broke out at 4:00 a.m. along west chester pike in marple township. crews say they kept the flames to one apartment but a seconds unit has smoke and water damage. no one was hurt. fire in a northwest suburb of chicago has leveled a sick mission. the two alarm blaze broke out last night in the town of island lake. it took several hours for firefighters to gain the upper hand. investigators say no one was inside the mission at the time. so far officials have not indicated if the fire is suspicious. new at 6:00 an happening today a school safety rally at the southwest philadelphia high school where a substitute teacher was knocked out last week. this vine video shows the teacher on the floor at bartram high school moments after he was attacked by a

that could slow down the commute. from the forecast to the roads, what you need to know before you head out the door. >> a pregnant woman begging for help from strangers. but it's what she did next that made somebody call police. >> and we had some breaking news, an update on the person who was hit by a car in bucks county this morning. the unfortunate news is that person has died. the action cam is live where it happened along the southbound lanes of route 1 near old lincoln highway. about an hour ago. still a scene there so karen will update the traffic situation in a few moments. >> we'll get more of that in moment. let's start with david who is going to take a look at the fog out there and your forecast. go,. >> clouds are getting lower even here over the terrace in philadelphia. i'm beginning to see some mist. as you take a look at satellite and radar the clouds have been a factor this morning. we'll see a little bit of a break out to the west moving in later on this morning but for now we're looking at fog and low lying cloud cover across the region. dense fog advisory is still centered mainly down by the coast.

9 miles an hour you're traveling on 295 northbound because of this. that accident just cleared but the delay is already out there. quick look in new jersey showing the fog and the heavy traffic on 42. already a 22 minute ride if you're trying to come into the city from south jersey you've got the fog matt and tam and you also have this big backup due to that accident on 295. >> thanks for the update karen. an unknown man was killed for unknown reasons in north philadelphia. police say the victim was in his 20's and was shot multiple time at close range along the 2200 block of north colorado street just after 11:00 last night. medics rushed him to temple hospital but he was pronounced dead there. police haven't told us his name. they also haven't said who can killed him or why. we know the name of another recent murder victim in philadelphia. he was wayne ellington sr., the father of a los angeles lakers star. and this morning we're hearing from the player about what is still an unsolved murder. unemployment numbers in ac many. the christie administration has not yet offered specific recovery plans as of yet. >> she was pregnant, she had a child with her and she was asking for money to get back on her feet. but it was what she did next that have people outraged. erin o'hearn is live at the big board with more details on this story. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, tam. and this story does have a bizarre chain of events. one moment the woman seen in this picture is asking for money on the street. the next minute she gets into a mercedes. now, one shopper in the area said she's on the corner every weekend holding this sign and then you can see from this picture a little farther away a little boy is with her, perhaps her son, he looks about four or five years old. now, one shopper in the area, as i said, sees her every weekend and started to get suspicious. so, melissa smith says when the woman stands on the corner plenty of people give her money. recently when smith was getting gas she saw the woman in her usual spot but then after panhandling for awhile,

[laughter] >> turn nothing to you accuweather, david it's so temperate out there. hard to believe how different it's going to be shortly. >> big chilly change on the way, tam. storm tracker 6 live double scan we're drying this morning. as we take a look at the fog map we have some dense fog that has pushed in through most of south jersey and there's a live update on the air. that orange is getting close to philadelphia and has overtaken parts of southern delaware county and new castle county, delaware and in all of those areas highlighted in

orange and red your visibility is either under a half mile and in some cases under a quarter mile and philadelphia starting to see it drop a little bit, too. same thing in trenton. if you happen to encounter the thick fog slow it down. it makes it really lard to see animals, stalled cars and pedestrians on the roadways. as we take a look outside or try to anyway, there is sky 6 and we are in center city atop the society hill towers and kind of lard to see down those 21 stories or whatever it is down to the ground. and even at ground level, your fog is beginning to get a little bit thicker. always looks a little worse when you're up in the clouds like. that you want to take it slow out there if it gets thick where you are. temperature 57 degrees right now. as tam mentioned moderate this morning, winds currently calm in philadelphia. despite that cloud cover we're looking at some breaks in the clouds out to the west and we'll probably transition to some sun once we get rid of this fog after about 9 or 10 o'clock this morning. 56 degrees by 8 o'clock. 60 by 11 o'clock so the morning is continuing on that mild trend and even by 1:30 or 2:00 we'll be at 66. that's your high but very

quickly after that, winds are going to turn from the northwest, it's going to get breezier and that number is going to drop. we'll go down to 56 degrees by 5 o'clock. and as we take a look at high temperatures, again, these are mostly early in the afternoon. 63 in allentown. once you get down to the i-95 corridor and to the shore a bunch of 66-degree forecast highs on the map. temperatures are going to do some shifting today as we mentioned. we'll get up to close to our high around 1:30 or 2 o'clock. but then watch that blue starting to come in from the northwest. by 5 o'clock tonight we'll be down into the mid-50's in all likelihood in philadelphia, down to the 40's by the time cecily is on the air tonight at 11 o'clock on "action news" and tomorrow morning, i'm going to have numbers for you in the 30's, kids, as we are looking at that colder air arriving. your seven-day from accuweather, today's high 66, windier later and dropping temperatures later in the day. and then 51 brisk and chilly on thursday. a slight chance of a sprinkle or maybe a flurry on thursday night. no big deal but something to talk about. brisk and cold then on friday, 45.

you have a fatal accident. as we look live with the action cam in bensalem bucks county right near old lincoln highway by the wawa and also by the lincoln motel, a fatal accident involving a pedestrian. avoid this altogether, stick to bustleton pike or hulmeville road as your alternate. and i want to show you what it's doing to route 1. look at this mess. this is route 1 jamming approaching the blockage as we're looking live on route 1 past the turnpike. so you can see, one, the fog in the shot and, two, traffic is just not moving on route 1 southbound because it's being shut down in bensalem bucks county. if you're in this area stick to bustleton pike or hulmeville road instead of route 1 southbound which is blocked near old lincoln highway. it's not our only problem. action cam on the scene earlier of another accident northeast philadelphia. look at the damage done to this vehicle. so these two vehicles collided so hard that another vehicle got flown onto the lawn of the northeast high school and this is all closing down cottman avenue still at this point. so you see the emergency workers that are there and police blocking cottman between algon and summerdale

avenue. stick to rhawn street or lever rick street and whitaker avenue or castor avenue as your alternates to that one. we want to go back to the maps to talk about a couple of other issues out there. in bellmawr, camden county, 295 we had an accident just cleared approaching 168 but you're still traveling in the single digits because of that and also on 42 about 10 miles an hour at times, 15. it's been a mess right there. i've got another shot of that just to show you, one, again, you're dealing with the fog in new jersey, it's worse there but look at this traffic on 42 northbound is really jammed up here from coles road to 295 and how about that fog, .3 of a mile in trenton, .8 in philadelphia. you really have to travel in it today and use those low beams, tam. >> thank you, karen. happening today, the state police barracks where trooper corporal bryon dixon was killed will reopen in pike county. meanwhile we have learned that trooper alex douglass who was injured in that shooting was brought to a new york city hospital that's known for special and complicated surgeries on monday night. state police though will not give any details about why he's there but they do say

that it was not an emergency. douglass was slot in the pelvis and has been recovering from that injury. police caught accused gunman eric frein after a 48-day manhunt. >> new this morning, pennsylvania's incoming governor says will he ban gifts to state employees as soon as he takes office. the gift ban was part of an ethical code that members of wolf's transition team are required to sign. a wolf spokesman says the democrat plans to issue an executive order barring gifts to anyone in the administration. governor corbett has reported thousands of dollars in gifts from lobbyists and business executives. wolf promised to end the practice during his campaign. >> happening right now at 6:47, the historic deep space mission. they're trying to actually land a moving spacecraft on a moving comet. westbound moving better. it's eastbound that's slow there. welsh road at cambridge an accident there so watch for that. you may be seeing some restrictions there on welsh road. meanwhile we'll go back outside live and check the scene in delaware county you see the fog out there and there's a disabled vehicle blocking the right lane southbound on i-95. dave, you got to watch disabling, pedestrians, you can't see them. >> you sure cannot. we have fog across the southern half of the region right now and it's excessively thick especially down by the shore in through millville. wilmington below a half mile, same thing in trenton. lancaster starting to dip and philadelphia officially is under a mild visibility. you may be able to get around okay in the city but if you run into any of that thick stuff you want to slow down as karen mentioned. if you're running errands today it's going to be mild for the first half of the day. 57 by 9 o'clock, 63 by noon. our high of 66 probably hits around 1:30 but then temperatures start to drop. the winds pick up and by 6 o'clock, we're all the way down to 53 degrees. and in the 30's by tomorrow morning, matt and tam. >> i can only imagine.
