good afternoon in the news this noon, a search for an mcdonald's customer that stabbed an employee. the reason for the fast food attack. and the man accused of running a men lab what else police found inside of his home. >> but the big story is the cold front coming across our region. here is a look from penn's landing from sky 6. temperatures are below normal and expected to stay that way for a while. >> lets go to karen rogers at the big board in for david murphy. >> it's a big change from yesterday when we were so mild, 46 in philadelphia, 43 in allentown and reading and in the 30s in the poconos. 46 in millville and 46 along the coastline and the boardwalk in a.c. and sea isle city. a 21 degree temperature drop in the city of philadelphia and 23 degrees cooler in wilmington

right now than this point yesterday. we are talking about the front coming through and producing the cooler air, we felt it this morning and certainly right now. but temperatures this afternoon are only 7 degrees below average. not a huge change but a big difference from where we sat before. the clouds have moved in ahead of the next upper level trough moving through and making a big change in our warm. can you see we are dry but not staying that way. i want to pull in stormtracker 6 live double scan, yes we are dry in philadelphia but we get to see the white stuff we have not seen in a while. we see it in western virginia and cleveland and buffalo. we don't see it in our region but could we see those first flakes. as you head out this evening, it's colder than expected and rain showers moving through not

now with the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: well, police say that the suspect fired first and he died from his injuries and investigators remain on the scene here this noon, can you see bullet holes piercing that side of the police vehicle. the officers though were not shot, it's unclear if they were hit with debris, but they were taken to the hospital to be checked out. >> gunshots. like 20 shots. neighbors heard shots on the willis block in trn ton. >> i was sleeping and boom boom boom. they were like heavy gunshots. >> trenton police and the prosecutors office combed the scene and bullet shots hit the suv. when they arrived the man operated fire before the officers even got out of their vehicle. >> they are coming down the

street and see the suspect there and the suspect opened fire on their vehicle and they returned fire. the suspect was taken to the hospital and he died of his injuries, two were take and in for observation but are expected to be just fine. >> any time are you involved in a shooting, it's stressful. you think about your family and your life could have been ended today. >> back here in trenton, investigators are looking at the police vehicle where there are bullet holes, we don't know how many shots were fired and they have not released information on the suspect or the officers. there is a press conference planned for this afternoon and we'll bring you the information as we get it. katherine scott, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. in philadelphia police are trying to figure out who killed a 62-year-old woman inside of her own home. sandra barley was found naked and beaten to death on 58th

street near market in philadelphia. her roommate said that three intruders broke in but the victim's family is telling a different story. chad pradelli joins us live outside of the victims home with more. >> reporter: relatives have gathered here where this homicide allegedly occurred. these relatives tell me that barley had a homeless woman moved in a year ago and over the last few months they have seen signs of abuse and now they fear that the abuse may have escalated to murder. >> now there is sorrow, it has friends and family grieving. >> i'm trying to get things set up for her funeral. >> she is a sweet lady, sat on

her porch, this that happened, she didn't deserve this. >> they found barley beaten and naked in a front bedroom at 3:00 a.m. the roommate said that three masked men broke into the home and struggled with her and barley. the police have found no evidence of a break-in. the roommate had bruises as well, she was taken into police custody and is being treated at a local hospital. >> who is this woman, why was she here? >> my mom was a kind woman and would give to the homeless. >> i don't know, i done like her. >> they have seen evidence of abuse before but barley said she was fine and would not press charges. >> she was nice, she would give you the shirt off her back, that is why she got in there, my aunt

cared. >> police continue to investigate, live in west philadelphia, chad pradelli, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. philadelphia police are searching for a suspect who stabbed an mcdonald's employee, the incident happened at november 3rd at the restaurant in the 2800 block of grays ferry. the suspect in the black jacket started the argument after employees told him the dining room was closed and that spilled outside when the suspect then stabbed the employee in the back. >> well, the man accused of driving his estranged wife's corvette into the delaware is now in jail. john cramer is arrested and his alleged motive was his ongoing divorce, he is faced with charges including violating a protection order and harassment. >> police are looking for at least two gunmen this noon behind a deadly shoot that

injured an innocent by stander in philadelphia. 26 shots were fired on the 2600 block of winton street last night. the man who police say was the intended target was shot in the head and killed and an off duty septa driver was hit in the chest by a stray bullet and take and to the hospital in critical condition. >> now, to never before seen surveillance video at a deadly parking lot attack at a new jersey mall a year ago. the lawyer for the victim's wife said the driver of the suburban stalked drivers three days before the attack as a test run, on september 13th, the suburban returns and finds a target, dustin freeland. they have filed an order against the mall and useful information for you when you go shopping

this season. a man allegedly running a meth lab. alton john jr., was arrested after police found equipment for making the methamphetamine, and they found ammunition and weapons. he is held on $90,000 bond. the morning commute was a mess after this tractor trailer flipped on to its side and spilled his load ontive and street. westbound laned were blocked from drivers coming into new jersey, it's unclear why the truck driver lost control and he was not hurt. >> a record breaking donation is keeping police officers safe by providing dozens of bulletproof vests, they are donating hundreds of thousands of the dollars to the police foundation, it will be used to

u-2 front man, bono arrived safely in germany after a plane he was on lost a door, the door fell off and landed in a field. the irish singer was never in any danger and the plane touched down without incident. they are investigating what caused the hatch to suddenly come off. the european space agency is showing off the first photo taken from the surface of the comet. scientists were able to lan the device on the comet. it did bounce twice, the agency is looking to see if any damage was done during the hard

landing. authorities say that hackers from china broke into a united states weather computer, it's critical to give us warnings about extreme conditions think the breach happened in late september but the problem was not discovered until late october. sources tell abc news that the national weather service lost access to some important satellite images for day. but all forecasts were accurately delivered to the public and all systems are working again. a police department in ohio is facing backlash after they put a 3-year-old girl in a prison holding cell, the toddler was with her mother at the time of her arrest at a wal-mart store, they caught her with $500 worth of items in her stroller, the pair was put in the cell until the father arrived. they claim they did nothing

honda is expanding its recall related to defective airbags that can explode and injure passengers after a driver in malaysia was killed in a crash linked to airbags, honda is adding 100,000 vehicles to their recall worldwide. there is word that kathleen kane is suffering from a concussion, she was injured during an auto accident last month in a state vehicle, she was not wearing a seatbelt. well, nation paused to honor veterans day this week, it's a

meteorologist, karen rogers joins us now with a closer look at the plummeting temperatures. >> yes, you felt the real change in the overnight hours, dropping some 25 degree, lets look at stormtracker 6 live double scan we are dry but not staying that way. lets go on outside and show you what it looks like, sky 6 hd looking live at the shore. they are bundled at the shore and walking around and enjoying it. looking good at the moment but lots of cloud cover, 46 degrees in philadelphia, 43 in allentown and reading 45 and 46 in sea isle city. we are tracking the huge change but temperatures not terribly

below average, satellite 6 along with action radar showing the clouds have really moved in and we can start to see some of the snowfall. seeing that up in toronto and moving through ohio and not quite yet in western p.a., the stream is coming into pittsburgh and rain mixing with snow. looking ahead by 3:00 p.m. 48 degrees and by 5:00 p.m. 46, you'll see the rain showers move in for your evening commute. by 9:00 p.m. 42 and we are staying above the freezing mark in philadelphia, future tracker 6 showing at 6:30 we are not seeing rain everywhere but some showers and in the poconos a little mixing, even late this evening. we look at 8:30, and rain showers in the evening, future tracker's way of picking up the area of blue, this is a look at 11:30 tonight and the poconos is getting some snow showers and

some wet snowflakes mixing in in a few spots. but it's all out of here at 3:30 in the morning, and we are talking about rain showers and wet snowflakes mixing in. it's chilly with the rain showers, and in the overnight hours we begin to see the wet snowflakes in the far west suburbs and we can see a coating on the lawn. here are the models we look at, tonight showing a little bit of coating to your far northwestern suburbs, that is something we are watching, through philadelphia and the rest of the region not expecting a whole lot out of that and the european showing we have to go to the poconos to get a coating to an inch. it's not a big deal for us but something we are watching, the big deal is the windchills in the mid-30s tomorrow, a huge change coming up in the accuweather forecast. here is a look at the forecast.

vehicle with bullets. newly released video shows that the mall was not protecting customers from carjackings. and temperatures are still dropping and karen rogers will have the chilling details. and now the latest, a close call for two police officers this morning after a man opened fire on them. the officers responded to reports of a home invasion on wilson street at 7:00 this morning. the man started shooting before the officers got out of their car and the officers starting shooting back. >> i was sleeping and it was boom, boom, boom, boom and it was heavy gunshots. >> the suspect was taken to the hospital where he died of his injuries, the two officers are expected to be just fine. lets take a look at sky 6 hd from philadelphia international airport the clouds are moving in

and it's a chilly one, meteorologist karen rogers is live outside with a look at the accuweather forecast. >> reporter: hi, the sunshine quickly faded and we have lots of clouds out here and it's a lot cooler than yesterday. here are the numbers, 30s in the poconos and 43 in the lehigh valley and better in the city at 46 degrees and 46 in millville and 46 along the boardwalk in atlantic city. and what a huge change from yesterday, we were talking about such mild air, it's 21 degrees colder right now in philadelphia than it was at this point yesterday, 23 degrees colder in wilmington and 28 degrees colder in trenton, we are looking at a huge change in 24 hours, the cold air is setting in and we are tracking precipitation too. satellite 6 along with action radar showing the precipitation trips through west virginia and now pittsburgh, and rain and

carjackers looking for vehicles at the posh mall. they killed dustin friedland while holiday shopping with his wife. a year later the widow shows that the mall did not do enough to protect its customers. marcy gonzales joins us live with the details. >> reporter: rick, the attorney for the victim's widow says that they went to court to keep this video from being released but they lost and now the widow is sharing video for a warning for the mall to increase security and to shoppers about the dangers potentially lurking. >> killed in a horrific carjacking at this upscale mall in north jersey, his widow

shares never beforeeen surveillance videos showing them stalking the cars and then driving off. >> they are willing to stake out a place for a couple of days until they find the mark that they want and like an animal they pounce upon it. >> then on december 15th the suspects were back pouncing on this white car but when the driver did not show up, the attorney says the accused carjackers moved on to the next spot spotting friedland's range rover and taking his life and speeding off in his suv. >> i think this case is a wake-up call, if the malls want people to come and spend money at the stores located there,

of lanson lane in newcastle county, around 5:30 this morning, the honda accord struck the 40-year-old man on the bicycle, the victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and police are still investigating. >> the investigation continues into a serious three car collision in newcastle county, this was the scene at barley mill road in delaware, according to police the driver of an suv crossed the center lane and into an on coming car, the 61-year-old woman was trapped in the wreckage and had to be rescued by emergency crews and police and was rushed to christiana hospital in serious condition. the driver of the other vehicle was also injured but not seriously. the taj mahal could be the fifth casino to close this year in atlantic city if the large of the union does not drop their appeal of a savings plan.

they notified they will close the taj on december 12th. union members are appealing a court order that terminated a contract that shut off their health insurance. philadelphia city council paused this morning to honor several heroes involved in big stories we are telling you about over the past week, here is "action news" reporter vernon odom, with the story. >> reporter: city hall today was a canyon of heroes and salvation as the full council paid tribute to cops and regular citizens that pitched in and worked hard to avert tragedy. this was the horrific scene in grays ferry when a police car crashed into north vehicle and burst into flames, officer mark kinsy was trapped and cannot get

out but joe chambers of ridley park came along and jumped into action and pulls the officer out the window. today city hall hailed chambers and others that helped. he refused to call himself a hero. >> if someone needs help help them, don't stand and watch and video tape. that is the problem with young kids they want to video tape and get the publicity on the internet. you act instead of watch. >> he acted so i could spend more time with my family. thank you. >> this was followed by another emotional tribute to heroism with city council, all involved in rescuing carlesha freeland-gaither were honoreded to. including the detectives working on the case, they were able to track the car of the suspect to virginia, delvin barnes, a career criminal. >> she is doing well, she is

masked men broke in and beat them but the evidence does not support that. >> i am grieving and trying to get things set up for her funeral. >> barley's roommate is being questioned by police. two people were hurt in a house fire in philadelphia overnight. firefighters were called to the 1600 block of orthodox street just after 11:00 last night. flames were coming from the hom when firefighters arrived. the officials said the woman suffered first and second degree burns, residents in two row homes were forced out into the cold early this morning. this is the scene at 5400 block of florence avenue, authorities say that the flames broke out on the second floor of one home and spread to two adjacent houses. the cause is now under

next 12 hours, it's 48 degrees and lots of cloud cover, and fort evening commute showers move in west to east. by 7:00 p.m. 45 and by 9:00 p.m. 42, as we look at the late evening hours, a light snowflake or two, and staying above freezing more most of the region. future tracker 6 showing some rain moving through the region, but starting to show mixed precipitation in the poconos and we advance this to 8:30, looks like predominantly rain through the area and a few rain showers, this is at a look at midnight, we see snow showers trying to mix in and wet snowflakes falling in parts of the the region like reading, it's done by 3:30, 4:00 a.m. and it's moving off the coastline.
