overnight tonight, temperatures plunging into the 20s north and west, low 30s for center city. an incredible amount of cold air lies across the lower 48 this morning. this map doesn't do it justice, how cold it's been across the midwest. that same cold air mass turns colder in the seven-day forecast. that same air malice shifts east and heads here in this direction by tuesday and wednesday, and wait until you see the numbers in the 7 day forecast. looking like january. i'll have them for you when i come back inside in just about ten minutes. five adults have been charged in a shocking child abuse case. we have to warn you, the allegations are particularly disturbing. until the trial begins. he agreed not to seek bail during an appearance in federal court in philadelphia. however the 37-year-old pleaded not guilty to the kidnapping charges. prosecutors revealed additional details about carlesha freeland-gaither's ordeal. she was tied up and forced into the trunk. if convicted barns could face life in prison. with him police have arrested marcus crews for the murder of a man found dead in eaten park. a cleaning crew discovered donald smith's body. police say cruz and smith worked together, but investigators have not revealed a motive. crews is being held without bail. the 48 day manhunt for accused cop killer eric frein cost pennsylvania taxpayers $11 million. that's the bill for pennsylvania state police and does not include federal agencies and the fbi and atf that took part in

a candle light vigil was held at west virginia university, students honored the memory of nolan birch who was found not breathing inside a frat house on campus. the cause of death is under investigation. west virginia university has suspended the fraternity and is a resort pledging -- sorority pledging. thousands of marchers in mexico called on local authorities to find 43 college students.

they vanished two months ago after a confrontation with police officers. prosecutors alleged that officers rounded up the students and handed them over to a criminal gang. mexico's attorney general is investigating claims that the students were killed and burned. in washington, d.c., there was a call for acceptance. the national cathedral hosted its first muslim prayer service. hundreds knelt on carpets facing mecca in an area free of christian icons. a woman interrupted the service and shouted why can't you worship in a mosque. the cathedral is home to inter faith services and presidential funerals. >> an arctic blast is wreaking havoc on much of the u.s. residents in the grand rapids michigan area has been force to dust off their snow blowers and clear their drives and sidewalk

"action news" reporter, annie mccormick has the details. >> reporter: delaware state police on the scene friday afternoon at claymont at harvey road and garfield avenue where this crash ended with a suspect shot by state trooper after he was transported to christiana hospital where he died. >> i almost got hit. >> reporter: thomas mcnaulty said he almost got caught up in the chase, he didn't realize at the time that billy was the suspect they were pursuing. >> he is a good man, he is a

the 400 block of thompson avenue. the 26-year-old's body was found by a family member. the victim was last seen alive by family on sunday. police are considering it a suspicious death. in millville, cumberland county, police say foul play is suspected in the death of a man. chopper 6 flew over the crime scene at the oak view apartments along east broad street late last night. the man was found dead inside the courtyard. police are not telling us how he died they have not released name. a vigil was held in egg harbor city was held for the victims of an arson. police have charged 38-year-old joseph palmer iii with setting the blaze. both deaths have been ruled homicide. a north jersey arts instructor is charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

the southern branch. jet stream that's coming very, very active. the northern branch controls the cold air that has sunk into the lower 48. the southern branch controls all the moisture. when they tend to link up, you get your big storms. that will happen as we get into monday, fortunately the storm that develops here will pull west of philadelphia, that means mild weather in time for that event which means rain not snow. future tracker 6 all is quiet today and tomorrow. increase in clouds. monday, the rain/snow line is way back here toward the west across the great lake states. i expect it to push closer toward the region possibly western pennsylvania and places like state college and williamsport and upstate new york. i would drop the rain/snow line farther to the south. nonetheless it's just too warm. we're expecting half inch to 3/4
