the storm system we're watching is across the deep south. it will bring a swath of heavy rain across the delaware valley. we'll talk about a possible freeze upmonday into tuesday morning. nydia. >> we begin with this breaking news, the white house is working to confirm the claims of the beheading of another american captive. peter kassig was held by the terrorists and he if true, he is the third westerners. the terrorist group claims to have beheaded peter kassig. isis wanders several weeks ago that peter kassig would be computed for american military acts in iraq and syria.

since his capture in eastern syria last october he converted to islam and changed his name. his parents pleaded with isis leaders not to harm their son, a fell muslim. the 26-year-old served as an army ranger in iraq. he moved to syria in 201 and founded a medical aid mission. he wrote, if i do go down, i will know that you and mom loved me more than the moon and the stars. he lived in beruit a young and passionate young man dedicated to others. isis is holding another female american, so far no threats against her life. streets around city hall are close to do make way for the

second attempt to remove the famed pnb letters from 1 south broad building. the action cam was there as they started to remove the letters. it was a delicate operation, but they removed the remaining 9 letters. you can see the letters being lifted by a helicopter and gingerly set down. back in august, the crews tried to remove the 63-year-old by sin by helicopter, but now they are all down, the streets are still closed. a 10-year-old boy is in critical condition at children's hospital after he accidentally shot himself in the face. we know how he got his hands on the gun and the life saving efforts that were performed on the child by police, police in darby, delaware county received

reports of a child shot at 10:20 last night. when they arrived they found a boy suffering from the gunshot wound to the fails. the officers rushed the boy to the hospital, but that's not all. >> thanks to the alertness to the first arriving officers on scene. they scooped the child right away, he was lifeless, one officer drove the other performed cpr in the back of the car. they got him to the nearest trauma center which was fitzgerald mercy, he was revived at the time they got him into the e-r there. >> police say the boy and his sister were dropped off at the their father's job. the boy found the gun under northeast -- you are not underneath the drivers seat when he shot himself accidentally inn

the face. a car went out of control at ridge pike in lower providence township. the car went out of control and hit a utility pole. the victim was flown to the university of pennsylvania hospital. police are trying to determine what caused the car to go out of control. one person was killed overnight when their car slammed into a utility pole. it happened on the southbound side of delaware avenue north of oregon avenue in philadelphia at 2:30. police say the 32-year-old driver was killed. police are looking into what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. penn state football team earned bowl eligibility with the win this weekend, but the jerry sandusky scamedz -- scandal is shad depotting the school's efforts. penn state's president is looking at the new freeh report. >> reporter: pep state's

president -- penn state's president has been on the job since may, so why is he reviewing the report now? penn state university got the 6th win of the season. the nittany lions are bowl eligible for the first time since 2011. the ncaa lifted the sanctions after the freeh report. >> it is more special the fact that we had 49 seniors that stayed around the program when this university and when this community and when this football program needed them the most. >> it's a huge day for the program and for everything we've been through, it's great we can finally get the program back to where i think it should be. >> reporter: it's penn state president whose making headlines after he promised to tackle and thorough review the freeh report along with the materials produced during the

investigation. the content of the report has led to looking at some in the penn state community. he came to penn state in may long after the report that deeply dividedded the board of trustees. freeh concluded that joe paterno and top officials hid sandusky's abuse. freeh gave 100 recommendations for change which have been adopted by the school. a trustee agreed to revisit the investigation calling the freeh report false. the board voted against the review 7-9. penn state president did not say how long the review would take, but he would move with quote all

it's looking a lot like winter in the mile high city this weekend. the storm brought zero temperatures and 16 inches of snow yesterday of of the kids didn't mind. the snowfall was more than enough to go sledding. one to four inch is expected to fall in the same area today. the unusual area snowfall meant sledding and tubing on mt hood. resort operators say this is the earliest they have been able to open. they hope for another good snowstorm so they can turn on the ski lifts to are skiers and snow boarders. >> reporter: those activities are fun. >> reporter: there are a lot of people who are enjoying the cold weather, some aren't.

below zero. this is nasty cold stuff. fortunately it will modify as it charges east. surface maps cloudy conditions, that will allow the low to come up the slopes of the appalachians. lots of wet weather as we head into tomorrow afternoon, periods of rain, ponding on the roadways, a nasty looking day, the snow is well to the west across the great lake states. cloudy skies, all day long, dry this afternoon, the clouds lower and thicken and gives way to rain overnight tonight. probably developing after 10:00, 11 this evening, arena lasting in the overnight hours, first thing tomorrow morning 8:30, you can see the dark shades of green. tomorrow we're talking about periods of rain, it won't rain every hour of the day. , but when it comes down it will be good.

broad have come down one letter at a time. >> speaking out the woman accusing philadelphia native bill cosby of sexual assault talks about her ordeal. >> get ready for the temperatures to take a nose dive. meteorologist chris sowers joins us outside with the accuweather details. hi, chris. >> reporter: good morning to you, nydia. it's not that bad out here, some locations are close to yesterday's high, it's only 9:30 a.m. numbers wise we're okay. allentown, 32, philadelphia, 40. yesterday we topped out at 44. wilmington, 40, trenton, 35, millville, 38. feels like 31 in reading, 36 in philadelphia. trenton 31. millville, 37 degrees. the satellite and radar locally cloudy skies across the region. if you look toward the left-hand side of the screen, you're starting to notice greens and whites that's a mixed bag of

precipitation that's pulling off to the northeast. the air is dry, so a lot of that is not reaching the ground. don't be surprised if you live in the far western suburbs if you see a quick passing sprinkle or flurry in the next hour or two. accuweather says it's a mainly cloudy day, milder than yesterday, but below average for this time of the year. 48 degrees that's the forecasted high. headlines tomorrow looking miserable, especially for someone who has to work outdoors. periods of rain, some of it heavy at times, and turning bitter cold especially for november standards once we get into tuesday and wednesday. i'll have the bone-chilling details when i step back inside with the full forecast in just a few minutes. >> chris, thank you. the big story on "action news," the famed letters atop the 1 south broad buildings are norm. they are removed and set on the

truck for transport forever changing the philadelphia skyline. nora muchanic is there, hi nora. >> reporter: nydia, if you don't succeed, try try again. take a look the iconic pnb letters atop the buildings are gone. go up 28 floors, if you look closely you may see the workmen still atop number 1 south broad street. a helicopter swooped in to pluck the giant letters off the buildings where they have stood since 19 50s. each letter is 16 feet tall and ways 3,000 pounds. in august, it didn't go to smoothly. the letters were fragile, they came up with a way to remove them with a more secure system and without the risk of crumbling on the way down.

pnb was philadelphia national bank. many watched the choppers hoist the letters one by one and dropped them on the ground and load them on a flat bed truck by crane. we watched the man who watched this morning and a touch of sadness. check it out. >> i came down here this morning we were here a couple of months ago when they took the first three letters down, obviously they had problems with that. i came out to see if they could foirg -- figure it out, and they did. whatever the problem was they fixed it. it's sad, it's a part of your skyline, partly of your child, you drive into center city, you see city hall and the pbn letters, now they are not there any more. >> back live, it is kind of sad, but they did make quick work of it. they had to get a crew from the

faa to do this and had the helicopters up in the air. a lot of treats streets around city hall are closed because there's heavy equipment in the area. while it may have been a noisy morning, it was a productive one, all the letters came off without a hitch and mother nature cooperated because there was no winds to complicate matters. boy it is something when you see that they pull it off and drop it down and pinpoint it on the ground. a little bit of philadelphia history gone this morning. live in center city, i'm nora muchanic channel 6 "action news." nydia? >> all right, nora, thank you. in other news, a 10-year-old boy is in critical condition after he accidentally shot himself in the face with his father's gun. the boy was waiting in the car as his father finished a shift from a an auto repair business. the boy got the gun from under

the drivers seat and accidentally shot himself. the delaware district attorney's office will determine if the father will face any charges in the shooting. >> crime scene tape spread across the philadelphia street overnight as police began the investigation into a deadly shooting. it happened on north 21st street. the a man was shot several times at 2:30, he was rushed to temple university hospital where he later died from his wounds. >> two drivers are in the hospital after they got into a fight in the middle of a busy bucks county intersection. it happened at street and york roads in warminster. police say a 45-year-old man from hatboro and 47-year-old man from warminster pulled over and started to argue and chase each other around the vehicles. one man was stabbed in the stomach and the other suffered cuts to his face. people inside a nearby diner watched the whole thing unfold.

the dinners tell "action news" the two men continued to fight even as someone try to to break it up. >> i can't believe someone had the nerve to commit such a vicious crime him. that's pretty personal, don't you you think, stabbing someone. >> reporter: police have questioned both men, charges are pending in the case. >> rape allegations against bill cosby have reassure faced. a former actress spoke to abc news once again accusing the comedian of raping her. barbara bowman claims cosby drugged and raped her in 1985. she said she hid in silence for years out of fear and shame. cosby has not responded to the accusations, although he was asked about the applications on npr weekend edition.

>> now, abc news has tried to get a comment from cosby's representatives, but so far he has not responded either. cosby has canceled appearances on late-night tv shows. the parents of michael brown are reacting to video released the day their son was shot and killed. the new material obtained by the saint louis newspaper shows the ferguson police officer moments after the shooting. officials said his face was swollen after the shooting. the newly released videos a bit fuzzy, one of the attorneys said it clearly shows he was not injured. a recommendation will be made is to weather wilson will be
