along later. we have new information on the arrest of a woman who allegedly stabbed a south jersey social worker nearly two dozen times. bracing for the worst, ferguson, missouri is bracing for the grand jury decision of the shooting of an unarmed teen. parents bundled up their children before they dropped them off at school in the winfield section of philadelphia this morning. they needed hats, scarves and mittens and heavy coats too. we are dealing with temperatures 20 degrees colder than normal david murphy has the bone chilling numbers. >> reporter: we are off to a sunny start but the sunshine is not helping one ebit.

we see the clouds creeping in from the west and as we get into the afternoon we'll see a little more cloud cover mixing with the sun but no matter how you slice the cloud cover, the conditions will be cold down below. 32 degrees in philadelphia, same thing in wilmington, most of the northern suburbs in the 20s, trenton, allentown and lancaster in the 20s now. the poconos 19 degrees and not much better in millville and dover, and we have the wind blowing in dover, and 22 miles per hour sustained winds, you can see gusts of 30 to 35 miles per hour. with the temperatures combined by the winds, 19 degrees is the current windchill in philadelphia and wilmington and below that in allentown and reading and lancaster. and down the shore 19 degree

readings at the boardwalk and atlantic city and down the pike in sea isle city. this afternoon we go for a cold one, a high of 33 degrees, the temperature already 32, it's not going to move very far today and 55 is your normal high, we are more than 20 degrees below average, and the low tonight, arctic air stays in place, 21 is the low. looks like one more pretty cold day tomorrow and then things get better in the accuweather forecast. we'll talk about that when i come back in. >> run on in. waltder perez is live outside and probably shivering a bit in quakers town, buck county. >> reporter: it's bad, quakertown is ready for another brutal winter. even though i have lived in pennsylvania or new jersey,

pretty much all of my life, i hate the cold, but i know i don't speak for everybody. >> there are people that relish the prospect of another brutal winter. people like john who plows snow from parking lots. >> one time i worked out here for 20 hours straight. we had a big storm and there was one hour lull between them and then the next storm hit. everybody was like a zombie out here. >> and people that like the cold. but not as much as last year. >> i missed the snow. and then we had it again. >> i didn't miss it last year though. >> can you tell from the barren sidewalks here in quakertown, nobody is prepared for freezing temperatures a week before thanksgiving. >> it's early, i have a little fish pond in the back and that is freezing already.

attack. karen travers joins us live from washington, d.c., with more on the attack. >> reporter: good afternoon, tensions are high in jerusalem as people brace from the potential fallout from this horrible attack. just hours ago president obama said there was no justification for this kind of violence and called on the palestinians and israelis to work on peace. >> it was a horrific act, pakistani men armed with guns and knives coming into the synagogue. >> we heard gunshots from downstairs. >> it left four worshippers dead, three americans and one brit, all dual citizens. one died of axe blows to the head and the attackers were killed by police. it's the first time in the conflict that worshippers inside

of a synagogue were targeted. >> we condemn these attacks. >> it had a large population of english speaking parishioners. nobody claimed responsibility but hamas applauded the violence. tensions are at their highest point in years, centered on the mosque that is the highest place for jews and muslims. they both point the fingers at each other. >> this is the israeli agreks. >> motivated by the same islamic extremism that beheaded innocent civilians. >> because americans were involved in today's attack, the fbi will play a role in the investigation. karen travers, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you karen.

"action news" was there as police placed a shooting victim into an ambulance in fairmount park this morning. the male was wounded on park avenue just after 7:00 a.m. the victim was waiting for a bus with his younger brother, when a gunman showed up and began firing, the 14-year-old brother who witnessed the shooting was also taken from the scene, the gunman wearing a mask over part of his face remains on the loose. "action news" has new information on the stabbing of a south jersey social worker, 30-year-old edwards is charged and has a $2 million bail. a witness describes the worker's attacker as someone that suffers

from mental problems. we should learn in just a few hours if philadelphia will get a second casino, the pennsylvania gaming control board could announce a decision if they will award another license this afternoon. four groups have applied for the license, sugarhouse, and harrahs in chester county both oppose the new casino saying that this area is already saturated. residents that live near a site at packer avenue in south philadelphia, protested the plan last week. we'll let you know the decision at 6abc.com and our mobile news app. we have information on a slew of closings at bottom dollar food markets and it's not good. they are laying off 460 employees at its 13 supermarkets

avenue, the car now in the schuylkill river, again it's believed at this point there is a woman inside of this car, the marine unit is on the scene and you can see all the rescue vehicles as well. they are just about to put a small inflatable boat in the schuylkill river, to locate the car in the water. can you see kelly drive is blocked off, as we push in a little bit, you can see the rescue workers on the scene, they are just getting into the small, inflatable boat to go into the schuylkill river to try and locate this car with what we believe is a woman inside of it. >> the river is extremely cold right now, time is of the essence, they are trying to get this craft out there and they can investigate further, it is believed a woman is inside of this car, how it went over the

barrier there and into the river, we don't know. chopper 6 hd will remain over the location. two people were sleeping only inches away from where a small plane plunged into their home in chicago this morning. the small cargo plane plunged into the house and landed in the basement leaving only the tail exposed. the pilot was pronounced dead but they have yet to identify him because he remains in the wreckage. he left and asked to return to the airport and the plane went down a quarter mile short of the runway. the pennsylvania state court will hear appeals of the conviction of monsignor william lynn, he was convicted in connection with sex abuse charges. his convention was thrown out on

appeal and prosecutors want the court to reinstate the sentence. surveillance video was shown for the first time at a hearing for the players that were all on the team at the university of pennsylvania, lewis campbell was beaten and stomped on at an off campus restaurant, he claims he was trying to protect his girlfriend. but the defense attorney says it's unclear who kicked campbell and that campbell instigated the fight. they are expecting to post bail and be released today. tonight new jersey rocker jon bon jovi will receive this year's marion anderson award at a black tie gala at the kimmel center. he has worked tirelessly to come up with housing solutions for the homeless. he organized the mega concert that raised $50 million for victims.

back live on chopper 6 and the breaking news story we are watching close now. this is live on the schuylkill river where a vehicle plunged off the kelly drive into the river. there is an inflatable boat there going into the river and there are air bubbles coming up from the bottom of the schuylkill river, that tells us that air pockets are probably

being released and that a woman is still in this vehicle. somewhere underneath the surface. we can only hope that somehow this person is able to breathe inside of this vehicle but rescuers are doing everything they can to get the woman out and bring her to safety. >> a lot of people along kelly drive watching this. >> and there is a massive rescue effort underway, they put the marine unit in a short time ago, it's in the water, a small inflatable boat, kelly drive is shut down, right where hunting park meets kelly drive and you can see the rescue vehicles here, there are a number of bystanders there by the river watching the effort. this was about noon, the police and fire department was called out for the report of a car that

the first time david. >> that is for sure. look at that camera bouncing up and down with the strong winds and combine that with cold temperatures and it does not feel nice out there. 33 is your current temperature, dew point is down to the single dig its, that is an indicator of really crisp dry air. winds are at 22 and gusting over 30, you think you need a coat but you need more than that because of the windchill. 29 in trenton and above the freezing mark in trenton and down the shore. cloud cover is coming from the west and streaking to the south and it's possible to give way to a little bit of cloud cover the rest of the way. it stays fairly bright, the winds are coursing through the region in the 20s and teens and gusting higher than this is going to be a factor in the

afternoon weather and windchills are expected to stay in the low 20s, and back down into the teens at sun down, look for it to be blustery and cold. a high of just 30, windchills stay in the teens in the lehigh valley, at the shore a high better of 30 degrees and windchills in the 20s at best. in philadelphia, a high of 33 degrees, just above the freezing mark but winds are gusting at 35 miles per hour, that is a bitter wind and windchills in the teens most of the time the rest of the way, bitter cold hangs around, and tomorrow temperatures still start out cold, we are challenging some records earlier in the morning, as you get into the afternoon, still about 33 degrees for a high. the good thing for tomorrow is while the winds at dawn and at

3:30 for the morning broadcast, they start to ease back so by 2:30 in the afternoon we are only looking at a 12 miles per hour wind, that means windchills in the 20s tomorrow versus the teens today. 33 is today's high, and 33 tomorrow, a couple of very cold days and cold starts as well. and thursday night is harsh, a high of 47, upper 30s friday and mid-40s and saturday. then be moderate again, turning milder with increasing clouds, 59 on sunday is getting a wow out of sara. and 66 on monday, we'll have to look at rain there and we'll take it given the fact it will be milder. that is some recovery there. thank you david. more ahead on the next half hour of "action news" at noon.

in a vicious attack at a jerusal jerusalem synagogue. police tell us that a woman in a car drove right off of kelly drive off hunting park avenue and plunged along the cliff and into the water and it is deep enough that we cannot even see the car right now. we are just guessing it's around the area. now the bubbles you are seeing there are probably from one of the divers that are trying to make sure someone is indeed inside and if so get the person inside as quickly as possible. we believe they are going in shifts, we saw one diver get out and another one go in. they have an inflatable boat for a main station so that can get out to help the divers in need

of dover, delaware, whether or not you see clouds it doesn't matter much, the brutal cold winds are doing the damage, the colder air mass highlighted in purple are just to the west and driving that in. a day like today with all the sunshine, right now at noon are you looking at 3 or 4 degrees adding to the current temperature, the colder air is moving in and battling the otherwise warming affects of the sun, the high is 33 degrees, we are already about there, windchills make it feel like the teens for the most of the day. we have gusts 30 to 40 miles per hour this afternoon. we are in the heart of the cold, 33 degrees, that puts us 22 degrees below normal and it's feeling like january the rest of the way. keep in mind these are the temperatures not even factoring in the wind. 33 is your high around 2:00, by 4:00 we'll be back under the freezing mark and back to the

the sanctuary of the synagogue and were hacked and hatcheted and murdered in that holy place in an act of pure terror and senseless brutality and murder. >> because americans are among the dead, the fbi will be aiding in this investigation. everyone in ferguson, missouri, is bracing for the grand jury's decision in the shooting of unarmed teenager, michael brown. the governor jay nixon has instituted the national guard. it's unclear if they will indict darren wilson, who shot brown, the prosecutors says he expects word before the end of this month. the log jam on the keystone pipeline may be cleared up today. it needs 60 votes to advance in the senate, the senator says she

lets get back to our breaking news story, a car plunged into the schuylkill river 45 minutes ago, vernon odom is now on the scene, what is the latest? >> the latest is, police drivers are about to plunge into the river at hunting park and kelly drive to look and see what they can find down there. they don't know how many people were in that car, all they told me so far is that witnesses told them, a car, they believe it was a sedan, heading westbound completely out of control at a

high speed from hunting park and bumped into a wall and went off the wall and directly into the schuylkill river, now police divers are going down to pull this out. they believe the driver was a female but have no idea why she lost control of the vehicle. can you see it here from chopper 6, we are right down on kelly drive and hunting park. we'll have more details later as things develop. live on kelly drive, channel 6 "action news." >> officials in sierra leone, promise a vestn investigation o martin salia, he did not receive aggressive symptoms until two weeks after he started symptoms, by the time he was delivered to
