good afternoon, in the news one person is dead in a fire that also ignites a transformer in new jersey. and a surprise sweep nets child support delynn quents in delaware county. but the big story is a cash crash that killed two people and injured nine others. it happened in berks county, the big rig came to a halt and came up against two other cars and a dunkin' donuts sign. walter perez joins us from the scene with the details. >> reporter: sara it's a horrific scene here in maiden's brook. they are a long way from clearing the wreckage.

the tractor trailer plowed into a bunch of vehicles and several vehicles simply flipped over and others got crushed between the big rig and the dunkin' donuts sign where the truck ended up. at least two have been killed and nine have been hospitalized. one of them hospitalized is the big rig driver. those that were trapped had to be extricated from the scene. one of the police officers was on the dunkin' donuts line when it happened. officer robert wood said at first it sounds like baking sheets tumbling to the ground, but when he turned the corner to see what happened, he says in his 16 years on the force he never seen anything like it. >> it's something i have never seen happen and i can only

outside in the cold. >> reporter: we are off to a sunny start once again today, but very cold conditions and it started out in record territory in some spots. in philadelphia we briefly fell to 20 degrees and that tied the record, and reading 17 degrees that sets a new record. and georgetown, delaware, by rehoboth, 19 degrees was your new record. wilmington and mount pocono missed it by a degree. boo hoo right? we haven't rebounded all that well, a temperature of 30 and the northern tier all upper 20s, in lancaster and allentown and trenton and still below freezing in most spots from sea isle city to millville. and just for fun check out kushts numbers? alaska. remember the 20 degree reading in philadelphia, it's 30 4 in

of the new jersey turnpike are closed as police investigated a deadly crash, chopper 6 hd was over the fiery scene of the northbound side of the turnpike in cranberry township, middlesex township. three tractor trailers were involved in the crash last night and the crash caused one of the big rigs to catch fire and all three lanes were closed while the police investigated. one person died in a fire in north wildwood last night. a picture from a viewer shows the intense flames and explosion. firefighters were called to west 17th avenue, crews quickly brought the blaze under control at this two story home, the fire marshall has not yet determined the cause. critics of what could be a $1 billion settlement of nfl concussion lawsuits are here in philadelphia today. former players, relatives and lawyers say the figure will not

cover all the claims, will plead their case to the judge. the nfl figures 600 former players will develop concussions in the coming decade and each player would get $190,000. parents failing to make child support payments were taken into custody in an overnight raid, the action cam was there as alleged delinquent pairs were taken into custody. its unclear exactly how many were take and into custody. 6 abc is joining the effort to help family that would normally be without food on the holiday. the action cam was in philadelphia where volunteers from philabundance were packing and sorting meat. philabundance helps people give

stormtracker 6 live double scan right now and we have no precipitation out there as we take a look outside, the action cam on the campus of st. joseph's university and you can see nothing but blue over the campus and in fact we are looking at a fairly sunny afternoon, but it's still cold. the dew point, single digit dew point, that is an indication of that dry air and some of you will want location on your skin after that. winds out of the west at 11 miles per hour, not as blustery and strong as yesterday but continuing to give you windchills through the afternoon. 32 in wilmington and upper 20s to the north and below the freezing mark to the south. winds turn to the northwest they are not all that strong but a 12 miles per hour wind in philadelphia, 9 in allentown and 9 in trenton enough to give you the windchills. cold enough to require the coat and all of that stuff. satellite shows you buildup and high cloud cover to the west and

i think the rest of the afternoon is still fairly bright and less blue and milky white sky cover. in terms of windchill, it looks like from now until 6:30 tonight, we'll be in the low 20s, that is what it feels like out there. the combination of cold air and winds blowing and in allentown, a blustery one there as well. still cold and not as much wind as yesterday and windchills making it feel like it's in the upper teens and low 20s in the afternoon. down the shore, not quite as cold but the mid-30s, still chilly under the sun and a breeze blowing as well. a high of 33 and mostly sunny and cold out there. winds are better 13 to 16 miles per hour. not knocking you around as much as yesterday. we get cold and 32, this past overnight we dipped down to 20 degrees in many regions and it will be chilly tomorrow morning but not as bad.

buffalo, new york, that is where six feet of snow fell. and drivers were stranded for hours, karen travers joins us with more from washington, d.c. >> reporter: good afternoon rick, the national guard is brought in for snow removal in upstate new york, they are using snow removers and dump trucks and plows. it's not just shovels the snow but they have to find somewhere to put it. they are measuring snow not in inches but feet. >> for folks buried there it doesn't show signs of stopping. >> the national weather service is predicting another two to three feet of snow in those areas, that will get them to 90-100 inches of snow, that is a year of snow in three to four days.

and it came fast and furious. horrible, just back breaking the snow blower doesn't even do anything. anything that was cleared was completely buried. drivers on the new york thruway stranded for hours. >> we had no water or anything to eat, the trucker next to us, bless his heart, gave us four bottles of water that we are almost done with. >> niagara's women's basketball team were trapped on their bus for 30 hours. they got by on granola bars and snow they turned into drinking water. >> governor cuomo from the state of new york has issued a state of emergency here and the national guard is now coming in. >> 50% of the country is covered in snow right now and at least one spot in every state has hit

in the evening and holding on to freezing in the overnight hours. then a couple of days we'll tap into slightly mild air and some cooler air and some milder air, back and forth from the 30s and 40s and things get better in the second half of the weekend. attorney general, kathleen kane, gave up new details on what was on a group of graphic emails, including child pornography. four of her employees have been fired and is he suspended without pay in the pornographic email scandal. a spokesperson for the corbett administration said that they were unaware that the emails contained pictures of children. a former runway model came forward to accuse bill cosby of rape, janice dickinson claims it

questions are being raised for the safety of eating rice especially for young children. a thank you study reveals a significant amount of arsenic in the rice, it's concentrated in rice as it grows, long-term exposure causes skin cancer, lung cancer and bladder cancer. the food and drug administration is setting limited. burlington county residents are warned to be wary of fake phone calls claiming to be irs representatives, they have seen a spike in the fake phone calls in the past several days. abc's rebecca jarvis has that story. >> getting loans and not paying them back, ma'am you are on the
