and brother. they believe there is no threat to the community because the shooting was likely an attempted murder-suicide. it's thursday night and the big story on "action news" is the shooting that stunned a neighborhood in burlington county, new jersey. >> authorities there are still trying to piece together details of the violence that left two children dead. the victims were found on holly park drive, and the two survivors were rushed to cooper university hospital. chad pradelli spoke with neighbors but lets begin with reporter, david henry with the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: yeah, rick we got a briefing here from police a little while ago and they say for now they are treating this case as a homicide although sources tell us it appears to be a murder and attempted suicide. it all began at 9:00 this morning. our troopers entered a kchaotic

scene. >> police found the four victims together in one of the bedrooms, all of them had been shot, a boy and girl were already dead, another boy and an adult woman were still alive and flown to cooper trauma center in camden, the woman was shot in the head and both were in extremely critical condition, they believe the woman was the mother of the three children that were shot and all were shot by the same handgun that was found at the scene. she and her children lived in the house with five other relatives, but not the father of the children. police say they are treating it as a homicide for now although they are not looking for a suspect. >> we are handling this as a homicide investigation, whether or not we have identified a suspect or suspect -- >> there were other adults in

the house at the time but they did not hear gunshots overnight and police say they were interviewed and available for more questioning. they cannot release the names until they notify the father, they range from middle school to high school age. >> the whole community is dealing with a huge tragedy here. >> that tragedy is expected to grow, the two surviving victim not likely to pull through, the state police describing them in extremely critical condition. >> all right david thank you. >> chad pradelli is in the neighborhood in tack tabernacle and is live with how the community is reacting. >> the neighborhood is not doing very well. any time you have a murder on your block it can be difficult and when children are involved it is even more traumatic, right

now a heavy police presence remains here outside of the home and they are processing the crime scene trying to figure out perhaps and why. >> here on the quiet tree lined block of holly park drive, the presence of state police and the grim reality of the crime has neighbors in disbelief. >> it's a quiet neighborhood and peaceful, can you hear the dime drop at night. >> it was shots that rang out sometime overnight. the echo went silence and a mother and her three children were shot in an apparent suicide. they knew little about the victims, they shared the house with another family. >> we hear them in the backyard playing around so it seemed like it was a happy fam. >> they were elementary age to early high school. the school district says they are going through a difficult

more on the extreme temperatures down there and the extreme snow. >> reporter: well sharrie, people in this neighborhood have been digging out all day, cleaning off their cars and their driveways, one place people can't shovel, their rooftops and in those neighborhoods, they are seeing nearly six feet of snow, that is become another very big problem. >> in western new york they are buried in snow and bracing for more, this is unprecedented. i have never seen snow like this. >> nearly six feet of snow is covering the buffalo area. inside and out. >> my wife has cerebral palsy, i'm trying to get to her. >> the latest blast of winter weather coming in with a bang. >> thunder, snow and lightning at times near whiteout conditions, totals could see up

to 3 more feet piling up. >> i am actually surprised that it is not worse. this is probably the most snowfall in history. >> new york's governor says local crews with the help of the national guard is making progress in clearing the highways but there is growing concern over collapsing rooftops and authorities evacuated dozens of people from mobile homes and the weight of the snow too much to bear and it has left some without heat. >> we were without heat for two and a half days. >> i have a 4 1/2-year-old at home and i have to support, and it's tough. >> it's clear this crippling winter blast is not over yet with more snow coming. >> and we are expecting heavy snow here through friday, after that, it's expected to warm up. even then residents won't be in the clear.

situation. >> if you have information about that shooting call 1-800-tips-3333. the philadelphia district attorney's office dropped charges against a young man previously accused of attempted murder. in may of 2013, several men broke into the home of a blind woman on the 2700 block of marple street and holmesburg and turned on the gas, she recognized one of them by his voice as her next door neighbor mcduffy. he was charged with attempted murder. and because the police say that the gas could have killed the woman but the victim failed to identify him again in a new voice lineup held this month. aaa released its travel predictions, it's the large of the number in the philadelphia area since 2007 and the roads will be overcrowded and they

health check tonight, the philadelphia marathon is coming up on sunday and for a south jersey woman this is her seventh

marathon, she hasn't always been a runner, just five years ago she topped 400 pounds. registered nurse and "action news" reporter ali gorman is at the big board. >> this is a before and after of michelle albertson. she is just one of five people featured in runners world magazine and her story is sure to inspire others. 28-year-old michelle albertson says she feels like a new woman, she officially caught the running bug. >> these are 24's and not my largest. as you can see from her old pants she was not always in shape. she weighed 427 pounds, at age 23 her doctor told her something she would never forget. >> if you don't get your life together you won't live another four years.

>> michelle knew she needed help and in 2010, she had lap band surgery to shrink the size of her thomas and she was down 100 pounds and wanted to celebrate, usually that would mean food but this time she ran her first race and completed a 5-k in disney. >> hurt and i was tired and then the next day she saw others complete the half marathon. and six months later she ran her first 13 miler. five years later she ran 38 marathons, and one ultra marathon, that is 50 miles. she has lost a total of 260 pounds. her friends couldn't be prouder. >> i am completely in awe of her she has come so far and now her

story is featured in runner edwards world magazine. >> surreal, i couldn't believe it. i opened the magazine and i'm there. it's just so -- it's awesome. michelle's advice for anyone starting a new fitness plan is to enlist a friend to join you and stick to your workouts. did may feel awful at first, but eventually it will get easier and you may even start to like it. we wish her and all the runners good luck this weekend. back to you. >> wow that is quite a story. >> quick break and more news when we come right back.

time now for accuweather at the "action news" big board, cecily tynan has a closer look at the warm-up that is only temporary. temperatures drop back into the 30s tomorrow and yesterday and wednesday, only in the low 30s for afternoon highs and today we shot up to 50 degrees and that felt good, that is 4 degrees below the average high for this time of year. compared to yesterday and tuesday, it's more comfortable. 45 in philadelphia and wilmington 44 and trenton 42 and allentown 38 degrees. stormtracker 6 live double scan showing that once again the lake-effect snow machine is getting cranked up south of buffalo, this is the same area that got as much as five feet of

snow and the lake-effect snow warnings continue until 1:00 in the morning and some areas could get up to eight feet of snow this week and these winds that are causing the lake-effect snow will be pulling down cool air for us overnight. 46 four us right now but pittsburgh it's 20 degrees cooler and the windchills are a big factor tomorrow morning. future tracker showing 4:30 in the morning don't be surprised you can hear the wind, the wind gusts 34 miles per hour in philadelphia and 36 in wilmington and 25 in reading and that is what is pulling down that cool air. tomorrow morning bunding up and mostly clear and brisk and cold and 23 in philadelphia, and 20 in allentown and 23 in millville and 24 in wilmington. consider the winds, the windchill tomorrow morning 15 degrees in philadelphia and 11 in reading and 15 in wilmington

and 14 in reading. temperature reese main in the 20s as far as the windchill factor, the five-day at 5:00, tomorrow lots of sunshine and windchills in the 20s and a high of only 36 degrees and not as harsh, sunday much milder and great weather for the philadelphia marathon, temperatures in the 40s for the race and 56 degrees the high and so mild for the eagles game and sunday night rain moves in and monday we'll be on the wet side with lingering showers so it will be warm, the high is 7 degrees, one degree shy of our record high and that begins to cool off partly sunny and 59 degrees, what happens for thanksgiving i'll have that coming up in the accuweather forecast. you don't want it too cold. >> we want sunshine for the parade. tall order.

opened fire at florida state university. and now the details on the still developing story out of tabernacle, new jersey, a mother and son are fighting for their lives after a deadly shooting inside of their home in rural burlington county. a family member discovered the horrible scene and found one boy and one girl dead. but the mother and one of her other children were still clinging to life. sara bloomquist is live outside of cooper university hospital tonight where the surviving pair were flown. >> reporter: rick that is right, that woman and boy believed to be her son remain here at cooper university hospital in extremely critical condition, as you said two other children a boy and girl were pronounced dead at the scene, a source tells "action news" that investigators believe this was an attempted
