the business. good monday morning to you all, i'm t.j. holmes. >> i'm reena naning. we begin with the tensions returning to ferguson, missouri. >> protesters faced off with police overnight. >> karen travers joins us with the latest from missouri. >> reporter: this region is on edge. anxiously waiting for the grand jury troy make a decision. there have been demonstrations every night. for the most part, they've been peaceful. so many voices urgently calling for calm no matter what the grand jury decides. >> hands up! >> all: don't shoot. >> no matter what, people are going to be here. they want to see a change. a grand jury decision is not a

change. >> reporter: the michael brown case looms large here. the grand jury this morning gets back to work after a two-daybreak. a decision could be imminent. >> the prosecutor's office saz said they'll inform the family before they inform the public for sure. >> reporter: barricades are up around the st. louis county justice center. nine votes are needed to indict the officer in the shooting death of the unarmed teenager. >> this is just a decision of probable cause. is there enough evidence to send this case to trial. >> reporter: the evidence includes testimony from wilson himself back in september. from the forensic pathologist that was hired by the brown family. witnesses say brown had his hands up when he was killed. a lawyer for the brown family told abc's george stephanopoulos, the system is

flawed. >> 99% of the time, they're not charged when they kill people of color. >> reporter: law enforcement officials say they're prepared. they don't want peaceful demonstrations to turn ugly. t.j. in reena? >> when the grand jury comes to a decision, how are they expecting this to unfold? are you we've been told the police will get a 48-hour heads-up to get things in place and prepare. it's unclear that that will happen president that was based on the thought that the grand jury would announce last week. the preparations went into effect over the weekend. you see behind me, the building where the jury has been meeting. law enforcement officials know this could come at any time. >> we'll be waiting for your report. karen travers, live in clayton,

missouri. we turn to the weather. several counties in western new york are under flood warning. >> warm temperatures threaten to turn the snow into a deluge of water. >> reporter: child weather from georgia to new york. has thousands of residents down south waking up this morning with their homes in the dark and their streets strewn with debris. >> we felt a lot of wind. it had stopped raining. but it was just a lot of pressure. you could hear a lot of metal banging. >> reporter: officials in western new york are warning residents to prepare for wide scale evacuations. >> a toxic brew is what happens in a flood. it has sewage in it, all sorts of runoff in it. and it does tremendous damage. >> reporter: tornado watches lifted for georgia, but the damage done. this roof, this sign, and dozens of trees no match for mother

nature. >> it was very scary. very. >> reporter: back in western new york, those still digging out from the epic blizzard in buffalo are fearing the worst may be yet to come with temperatures expected to hit the 60s today and almost 80 inches of snow still on the ground, residents worry they could go from snowed in last week to flooded out this time around. >> we just hope it doesn't flood our house, or anybody else's for that matter. we don't want nobody to get flooded. >> reporter: in case of flooding, officials say they're ready with evacuation plans and emergency shelters. elizabeth hurr, abc news, new york. jim dickey has been tracking this new storm system. good morning, jim. >> good morning, reena and t.j. a warm day across much of the east. 60s and 70s. 78 in d.c. would be a new record high. 60 in burlington and buffalo.

the combo of heavy rainfall here will lead to flooding as we melt the snow along with the increased roof collapse risk for the day. the push of much colder air moving eastward. it sets the stage for our next storm system, which, poor timing, will ride up the coast wednesday, one of the biggest travel days of the year. we're going to see soaking rain, potentially heavy snow. be mindful of this as we head toward thanksgiving. back to you. >> thank you, jim. it appears that today's deadline with iran for a deal on their nuclear program will be extended. ir narks wants all nuclear-related sanctions lifted immediately. that is something president obama has all but ruled out. a security scare at a texas army post. fort sam houston was in lockdown for several hours last night after a report of a suspicious

vehicle. drive fatigue is the suspected cause of a fatal bus crash in northern california. the bus left interstate 5, flipped over. luggage and other personal items were scattered all over the place. passengers described the driver as clumsy behind the wheel. it's crazy. i felt like i was in a roller coaster. a lot of us were crushed. crushed between the seats. >> a 33-year-old man was killed in that accident. but earlier in the day, the same bus driver was involved in a minor accident at a denny's restaurant. dozens of villages are in shelters as aftershocks rattle central japan. the damage in a mountainous area that hosted the olympics a few years ago. one 2-year-old was pulled from the buildings toppled.

the three civil rights workers at the center of the famous mississippi burning case will be honored. michael sh westerner, james chanceny and andrew goodman were killed years ago. the president will present the awards to their relatives. coming up, forget black friday, why today might be the best day to shop this week. explosive expose. one of america's most prestigious universities shutting down all of its fraternities in the wake of sexual assault allegation. and the nfl announcing overnight who will be performing at the super bowl halftime show.

it's only getting better for those driving though their thanksgiving destinations as gas prices continue to drop. the national sampbl $2.84, down ten cents in the past two weeks. lower crude oil prices and plenty of supply are the reasons for the falling prices. the dow starts today at a record high. the blue chip average had three record closes last week. the s&p 500 did even better. a short day of trading on fire after being closed thanksgiving. there's no reason to wait for black friday. they claim the biggest price cuts start today. the best day for deals is thanksgiving day itself. you may want to wait because prices will almost certainly go lower as the shopping season continues. no surprise at the box

fraternities on the campus until the end of the semester. there were protests over the weekend. one student who had been sexually assaulted spoke to bazi kanani. >> is the school doing enough? >> this is not a problem at uva or just that uva's administration can solve. it's a national epidemic that we all need to help solve. >> critics complain that it was an overreaction from the school. a 12-year-old boy was fatally shot by police after brandishing what turned out to be a b.b. gun. the caller said the gun was probably fake two times. the information was never relaid to the officers. the boy did not point the weapon at them. but reportedly did reach for it. two officers are on leave. two women and a dog were pulled from the rubble of a

collapsed apartment building. neighbors say they heard an explosion before the three-story building crashed down. all three floors pancaked into the basement. take a look at your screen here. look closely. there's a car in there. car that crashed through a parking garage barrier. it ended up stuck in the scaffolding. this was outside milwaukee. the driver was removed safely. today, crews will work to remove the car and stabilize the scaffold. now some football. kind of. there were cute moments's the bengals-texans game. >> you don't talk about cute moments. >> the kiss cam is in effect. >> everybody starts to lock lips. this is why we show it to you. the most recognizable couple in the stands. they had their turn. look at this. president george h.w. bush getting in on the act with his
