outside with accuweather. >> reporter: hello shirleen and happy thanksgiving to you, it's cold for our turkey day, in fact temperatures were below average by 10 degrees, the high in philadelphia coming in at 42 degrees, below average in the wake of our coastal storm, it's 39, in the poconos 47 and along the coast in beach haven, 39. a bit a windchill to factor in as well with the winds coming in from the northwest. lets talk about what is what ahead. all the shoppers are looking for bargains, it's milder for us on sunday that moeans if you are traveling back home you shouldn't be impacted by travel issues due to weather, we'll take a closer look at the forecast on the way and how the weekend is shaping up. we'll send it back to you inside nydia. >> stay on top of the changing

musical, wowed the crowd with performers from my girl. and there were lots of familiar faces at the parade this year, mr. potato head throated through the air delighting parade goers young and old. the balloon was 20 feet tall and 15 feet wide. ♪ do i want you because your wonderful ♪ >> there was a real love story on the parkway, as the cast from rogers and hammerstein's cinderella were here. there were special guests that helped rick and cecily host, they shared laughs with good morning's ginger zee and mickey and minnie mouse. and of course who everybody was waiting for santa claus and mrs.

claus helped kick off the holiday season. we brought you more all morning long and you can see the photos from the festivities and we'll have a video recap of the show find it all on 6abc.com. once the parade wrapped up today, many people got to work on thanksgiving dinner, eva pilgram is live in northeast philadelphia looking at how one family prepared food and celebrated. happy thanksgiving eva. >> reporter: we are here with the cunninghams, they are all gathered around the tv right now, watching some interesting television, that is what i'll say at this point. they are preparing the thanksgiving meal in the kitchen. for those that have to do the hard work. it's always the moms that get stuck with it. >> the turkey is carved. >> we are ready to go, everything is on the table and we are trying to keep it hot.

pennsylvania put together hundreds of meals this morning. the dinners were loaded into waiting vans in chester, philadelphia and surrounding areas. >> salvation army volunteers lined up in south philadelphia to provide mealed that have fallen on hard times about 1,000 families got dinner from people eating thighs and extra food. there was a feast on the camden river front to honor those fighting for us. they said thank you with a hot meal and kenneth moton was there. >> reporter: they are treated like the heroes they are, military men and women received quite a welcome on to the battleship new jersey. >> i am looking at these wonderful young faces and with gratitude say thank you, thank you, thank you. >> others served this country and others are still protecting. they honored homeless veterans

and active duty military from mcguire, dix and lakehurst with a meal on this holiday. >> we have troops coming from joint bases and we surprise them because they don't know what is going on. so they know there are people that appreciate their service to this country. >> there are a number of volunteers and dignitaries and troops and service men and veterans. we come together as one big family. >> they decorated this world war ii battle ship and fill the plates. we found michael duffy and his wife that serves and their son. >> i spent time overseas deployed and away from my family, it means a lot to be supported by the local community and have my family here. >> but there was others like army reservists away from their home and families weeks away from deploying.

>> it's different to be away from family at this time but i'm happy to be with my battle buddies and leaders and having a positive attitude is what it is all about. >> even sixers guard jason anners was here to help out. and other groups including marshal's family. >> this is the best day of my year, giving back to those that give to us. there is no better honor as an morn. to walk off the big meal there were men and women that took a tour of the battleship, definitely a trip on the camden waterfront. >> my family is visiting from new york we'll take them to the battleship. >> 5:07 now, more to come on "action news" tonight. stores are opening earlier than ever before for preblack friday

there is lots of eating and shopping, 12% of americans plan to go shopping at at mall or other retail shop today one they finish dinner, that adds up to 36 million people. stores are opening earlier than ever before, lots of department stores and big box chains are inviting people to shop. shoppers are lining up and as we saw earlier they are camping out. >> reporter: it's crazy, it's really cold out here but that is not stopping people from lining up. you can see how far this line goes back and target doesn't open here for another 50 minutes. everybody here is trying to get their hands on the hottest deals, for girls everything elsa and boys it's video games. and this started early for some

when kmart opened their doors at 6:00 a.m. this morning. >> we a line between 75 and 100 customers and members out front giving out tickets and candy canes. >> a holiday once marked for family football and a feast. now it's shopping trying to whittle down the costs of holiday gifts. >> i have stuff cooking now, hubby is home at prep. >> kmart is open 41 hours straight. we asked shoppers what got them in the doors so early this moning. >> for my kids mostly because there is good deals. >> i saw they had a bunch of deals, the sales of course. >> for many the holiday wish list came early. >> i have this little pony doll and some elsa shoes. >> i want toys, ninja turtle

some demonstrators in california spent thanksgiving morning in jail. they were arrested while protesting the grand jury's decision not to indict darren wilson and 35 people were detained in los angeles 130 demonstrators were arrested after they refused to disperse, the protesters were upset that officer wilson was not charged with the shooting of michael brown. we'll have more coming up on the

attempt to restore calm in missouri. >> and now twitter is tracking the apps on their fons, the company announces that users are receive a notification when their feature is turned on. it's a list of app that users installed. not the data within the app, they want to use the information to create better target advertising. a simple change in position can -- radiation machines and techniques have got and better over the year but there is risk especially if the left breast is treated. they say putting women on their stomachs for radiation dramatically cuts the risk. it gives the doctor a better target for radiation. >> it's an even shape, we can give an even dose of it. and we can stay in the ribs and we don't need to go in and skim

is dry after picking up 3 inches of snowfall yesterday. the chill is settling in across the delaware and lehigh valleys. 42 degrees in philadelphia and allentown 47, trenton 36 and 42 for the high in wilmington and atlantic city coming in at 44 degrees. we'll show you the numbers outside across much of the delaware and lehigh valleys, in the 30s except down at the boardwalk, temperature there's at 40, but 39 in the city and allentown 35 and dover coming in at 39. the winds however are coming in out of the northwest and you factor in the windchill in the wake of the cold front and the coastal low that moved through and winds out of the northwest and brings down a chill, and the current windchill in the city, and it feels like 34 in sea isle city and 41 in dover at this hour. here is satellite 6 along with

action radar it's mostly cloudy in most of our region, you look to the north and west and a cold front is moving on through and precipitation in western pennsylvania, even some activity moving across central pennsylvania, this will stay well away from our region tonight. we are looking nice and dry and it will stay rather cloudy, this is the call from accuweather, 22 in allentown lots of clouds and brisk and cold and we drop down to 27 degrees there in dover. the day planner showing you on friday no major concerns and the chill is sticking around and plenty of sunshine nonetheless. 34 at 10:00 a.m. and 37 at 1:00 in the afternoon and 36 at 4:00 in the afternoon, if you are venturing out for black friday, and put a coat on the shopping list come tomorrow, the five-day at 5:00, windchills are in the 20s throughout the day on friday, and saturday mostly cloudy with a high temperature of 43 degrees, as we get into
