but the big story on "action news" tonight is black friday 2014 and while it will be some days before we see retail numbers and begin to gauge whether the holiday shopping season is off to a good start, chopper 6 hd witnessed a couple good signs today, a jam packed parking lot at the philadelphia premium outlets in limerick and nary a parking spot to be found at the king of prussia mall. admittedly these are not completely scientific assessments. "action news" reporter dann cuellar a live at the king of prussia mall. dan you're a veteran of black friday reporting how does it seem to you. >> reporter: jim you're right. we won't know until they crunch the numbers but from the looks of it they're off to a pretty good start here at the king of prussia mall. king of prussia was packed late today with holiday shoppers many of them carrying bags of all sorts. >> we've been here since 9:30 this morning and we've been in teenaged stores.

>> reporter: yeah. >> we're finding good deals. >> i'm prettying good sales. i cleaned up in j. c. penney for my daughter. >> reporter: a number of stores were offering huge discounts on merchandise hoping to lure shop stories come in and buy, buy, buy. >> i got a jacket. it was ralph lauren. i think i paid like $60 for it so very good deal. >> reporter: for ralph lauren that's a good deal. >> very good deal yes. >> reporter: some were hitting store after store. >> h and m, gap, forever 21. we went to a lot of stores. they got a lot of deals. >> i got great stuff at victoria secret and new york and company, $5.99 for a hat and scarf. >> reporter: some came from far to spend their cash. james lucas came from chicago. how much did you spend. >> i spend almost $875 here. >> reporter: good deals. >> good deals. i'm not too happy with all the money spent. >> reporter: happy holidays. >> thank you.

>> reporter: there is some good news for holiday shoppers. we found most major retailers are extending deals beyond just the normal one day. they're extending them through the weekend. happy shopping. live here at king of prussia mall, dann cuellar channel6 "action news." >> thank you dan. in center city philadelphia the deals were plenty and so were the shoppers. walnut street was filled with people looking for the best prices. most everybody was local but we did find some people from as far away as new york doing a little holiday shopping. the christmas village in love park also a popular spot today to buy holiday decorations. they started shopping bright and early in south jersey and "action news" reporter katherine scott was right there. >> we went to two malls and a series of stores. >> reporter: that was a lot of ground to cover for it only being 4:30 a.m. but it is black friday after all when many shoppers sacrifice their sleep for deep discounts. >> the deals, the deals. saving money every year,

getting everything done in one day, can't beat it. >> one and done. i do it in one night and i'm done. >> reporter: the cherry hill mall opened at 6 o'clock on thanksgiving evening and shoppers didn't waste any time grabbing their wallets and hitting the stores. on jewelry, on clothing, the discounts are everywhere. and because the stores are opened earlier and for longer hours, the early concentrated rush of pastor years was redistributed over a longer period of time. for some, that meant fewer lines. so you've just been able to get in and out. >> i'm the only person in line. >> reporter: the national retail federation predicted 140 million shoppers would be out with a 4.1 percent increase over last year's sales for november and december. in cherry hill the mall seemed to be off to a strong start for the season. >> i think right now consumer confidence is up, unemployment is down, gas prices are down, there's no threat of a government shutdown so i think that all those are indicators that it's probably going to be

makes you want to head into the mall and work up a good sweat doing some shopping because it was cold. allentown 33 degrees the high, pottstown 35, pareny trenton 37, philadelphia we hit 39 degrees for the high that's 12 degrees below the average high for this time of year and in dover it cracked 40 degrees and tonight the chill is on. philadelphia currently 34 degrees and millville it's 30 trenton dropped down to 29, reading 29 and wilmington 31 degrees. the winds are easing but there's enough of a breeze that the wind chill makes it feel like 28 degrees in philadelphia. feels like 26 degrees in wilmington, so if you're heading out tonight you definitely want to bundle up. satellite 6 you along with action radar showed we did get a lot of clouds today, even a few snow flurries. atlantic city airport reporting a trace of snow. clouds are really thinning outer. the winds are generally out of the northwest and that will pull down some cold air tonight so if you're heading out on this friday night, temperatures will gradually be dropping in philadelphia.

temperatures in the 30's this evening down to 31 degrees but overnight low in philadelphia in the 20's. some of the suburbs down into the teens. i'll talk about that and track some warmer air on the way as well as some rain in the full accuweather 7-day forecast. jim. >> thank you cecily. a search is now under way for a 21-year-old who hasn't been seen since very early yesterday morning at a bar in manayunk in philadelphia. "action news" reporter chad pradelli is live in manayunk tonight. chad, what's the story on this? >> reporter: jim, shane montgomery was last seen just before 2:00 a.m. as he left kildare's pub on main street in manayunk. his family tells him that the bar asked him to leave after he accidentally bumped into the dj table and he's been missing ever since. friends and family of shane montgomery have been searching night and day for the 21-year-old. they have been putting up fliers looking for anyone who may have seen something in the early morning hours of thanksgiving. saint john the baptist of manayunk has served as a

staging area. >> there are no words to describe the hell i feel. >> reporter: cara montgomery says the police marine unit helicopters and canine units spent the day searching the river along main street. shane was last seen leaving kildare's pub just before 2:00 a.m. surveillance cameras may have captured him walking. police told the family the video though is grainy and detectives are working to enhance it. >> i can't thank them enough for all their assistance. >> reporter: the west chester university student has a celtic cross tattoo on his shoulder. he was wearing this shirt on the night he disappeared. his family says his cell phone was dead the night he was out so it has provided little help. the greater philadelphia search and rescue is assisting in the search. >> clear areas, want to try and get awareness outgoing up the hill a little bit more and clear along the river with fresh eyes. >> reporter: and the family has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to his

whereabouts. the search will resume tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. i'm live in manayunk, chad pradelli, channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you, chad. a former federal judge has lifted the indefinite ban of ray rice as imposed by nfl commissioner roger goodell. goodell changed his suspension from two games to indefinite when this video of rice punching his then-fiancé went public back in september but the former judge acting as a mediator in rice's appeal today said that the sector penalty was arbitrary and what she called an abuse of goodell's discretion. this means that ray rice can play football as soon as he can find a team that wants to sign him. it is unclear at this point if any team does. philadelphia police are looking for the man who swiped a laptop from a van in kensington. surveillance video captured the incident in the 900 block of north second street wednesday morning. you can see the thief break the driver's side window of

the parked van. then he reaches in and takes a dell laptop computer worth $1200. in south philadelphia, a thief didn't make a quick get a way but he did walk away with some cash. the robbery happened saturday at the dunkin' donuts in the 1500 block of washington avenue. the robber walks in, displays a weapon in his waist band and demands cash. after the employee hands over the money, the thief just casually walks out of the store. coming up on "action news" tonight, once neglected and found starving, pearl the dog finds a new and loving home. and a piece of pennsylvania will be on display at the white house this holiday season. cecily tynan has more on the accuweather forecast. jeff with the eagles the day after when "action news" continues tonight

>> a car careen need a drugstore early tonight in the torresdale section of philadelphia. the accident happened just before 5:30 in the 9400 block of state road. police say the driver of the vehicle lost control and crashed into the delair pharmacy. the two people inside the car were not hurt. the store was closed at the time. a dog found starved in delaware county has found her new home. pearl met her new owners donna and dara leery today at the spca adoption center in media. the pitbull terrier was found emaciated in the backyard of a chester home last month and was nursed back to health. >> the spca just do amazing job with her. from what i seen she -- she didn't even look like she was

going to make it and now she's like a healthy puppy. >> i fell in love with her right away. >> reporter: love at first sight? >> yeah. >> pearl wasn't the only lucky dog to be adopted today. the spca offered special adoption prices as part of a black friday deal. santa and mrs. claus ditched the sleigh today. they opted for septa's market frankford line bound tour dillworth park at city hall. young riders on board the santa express received a gift bag filled with treats. santa even went for a quick skate on the new rothman rink. a mayfair resident celebrated 100 years of life today ann shafer was surrounded by loved ones at the cottage green banquet facility in northeast philadelphia. the party included gifts and a cake, of course. anne lives by herself in the same home that she bought 70 years ago and we wish ann shafer a very happy birthday.

>> philadelphia sports fans stopped at the wells fargo center today to shop and meet some legendary players. flyers alumni bernie parent and bob kelly signed autographed items that were bought at the fan zone store. the black friday sale offered discounts of up to 30 percent off both flyers and sixers items. and to be clear, tanking is not part of the flyers' plan but the season is quickly spiraling out of control. >> yeah, it is really bad right now. hopefully they can get this going here. since losing to the rangers a week and a half ago flyers general manager ron hextall has chewed out the team and coach craig berube chewed them out and the flyers even had a players-only meeting. when will they respond? flyers favoring new york again today, hextall and berube could not be happy with what they're seeing. not going to be happy with this. second period, mark saint luis beat steve mason. flyers behind two-nothing.

in the third on a four minute power play, jake voracek brayden schenn both turn it over. here come the rangers other way, three on one, mason doesn't stand a chance. wow. flyers lose three-zip. it's the second time in 10 days they're shut out. flyers lost seven of eight. they were booed off the ice. >> we're not playing well. we're playing like crap. we deserve to get booed. >> it's deserved, you know. >> it is embarrassing. we were at home, too, so it's even worse. >> i'm not happy at this point. i'm not happy with our record, i'm not happy with our overall performance. >> hard to believe but the birds have more wins than the flyers and sixers combined. eagles fans should be thankful for their football team, the first place eagles are nine and three and in position to still get the number one overall seed in the nfc. lesean mccoy and company taking a major step in that direction last night in dallas

this was like my favorite holiday. so it's really a bummer. game plan was try not to do that and we accomplished it. >> he looked good yesterday. in other nfl news ray rice has been reinstated from his suspension. rice is free to sign with any team in the league. the former baltimore ravens running back won his appeal today. rice was originally suspended only two games but the nfl later punished him again with an indefinite suspension when video surfaced of rice hitting his then fiancée at revel casino. the nfl accepted the judge's ruling today and rice is a free agent. penn state plays their final regular season game tomorrow and it will be a special senior day considering these kids stuck it out and stayed despite the scandal, sanctions and coaching changes. penn state plays ninth ranked michigan state on 6abc tomorrow afternoon at 3:30. tough game.

spartans nine and two. >> all right. thank you, jeff. they played rugby for charity today in fairmount park. the annual tournament raises money for water safety scholarships. they pay for people to learn how to swim at the salvation army community center in north philadelphia. the tournament was created in 2009 as a way to remember josiah sterling. he was a standsout rugby player at temple university who drowned in ocean city because he never learned how to swim. >> ♪

storm tracker 6 live double scan showing that we have dry conditions out there tonight. we have a few flurries earlier today but most of that activity has cleared out and chopper 6 taking flight tonight, gorgeous shot, the clouds really thinning out, very nicely right in time for the sunset. the sunset tonight 4:38. it will be setting at 4:37 tomorrow. we started off with temperatures in the 30's. never climbed out of the 30's. our morning low 31 degrees. 4 degrees below normal. afternoon high only 39 degrees. that's 12 degrees below normal and we have another cold day on tap tomorrow. right now philadelphia at 34 degrees. millville their 30, wilmington 31. allentown, trenton, reading and lancaster already dropping down into the 20's. 29 degrees. the poconos a lot of people skiing in the poconos this weekend, currently it's 18 degrees and then you factor in the winds. the breezes really have diminished but still the wind chill makes it feel like 13 in the poconos, feels like 28 in

philadelphia, feels like 27 in sea isle city. satellitesatellite 6 along withn radar showing the clouds from earlier today cleared out very nicely. there is a disturbance moving across the great lakes. not a lot of moisture associated with it. a little bit of some mixed precipitation in wisconsin. this will bring us more clouds tomorrow but we will generally have a dry day. maybe a few snow showers north of lehigh valley tomorrow, mainly in the poconos. tonight really the big problem just the cold. partly cloudy overnight low 15 in the cooler suburbs, 25 degrees for center city and looking ahead tomorrow, today's high 39 degrees. tomorrow again maybe 1 degree warmer, 40 degrees, lots of clouds with this warm front. what will happen the warm front lifts up to the north. by sunday this brings us winds out of the southwest, 55 degrees on sunday, even milder on monday, the first day of december and the second half of the weekend definitely more sunshine than the first half. tomorrow future tracker
