college student has police concerned. >> we're watching a car fire live on the schuylkill expressway, flames are coming from the vehicle right now. >> let's go over to karen rogers with accuweather and matt pellman is watching that in traffic. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, we're starting off today with the temperatures on the mild side. normally we have a high of 50 in the afternoon we're already at 50 at 6:01. 39 in lancaster, 49 in trenton. 51 in millville and 53 down by the shore in sea isle city. satellite and radar showing some of the early clouds have eroded, but the clouds from thest west will be moving in this afternoon, we'll see mostly cloudy skies, we'll seal the light showers that are moving through, that's associated with the cold front. we think by the afternoon hours we'll watch for spotty showers, so future tracker 6 showing at 3:00 a.m. we get the showers starting to move through. it's damp at times during the evening rush before it's out of

here, let's look at the temperatures through the day, going up, 9:00 a.m., 54 mostly cloudy skies. noon, 62. 3:00 p.m., we'll see rain in spots and 59 degrees. 6:00 p.m., showers around and 52 coming down from a nice high of 62 degrees, the temperatures are going up and down and up and down, tomorrow they are going down. details only that in just a few minutes. >> reporter: we have a couple of glaring problems an low knowledge the traffic front. one a car fire on the schuylkill expressway by gladwyn. you can seem the flames coming up from the vehicle, we're waiting on a fire truck to arrive to the scene, you can see eastbound just the left lane was getting by. as you get farther east you'll start to hit heavy traffic as you come past montgomery drive through this point at girard avenue and head toward the vine street expressway where we have this accident scene in the eastbound lanes off of the schuylkill expressway.

this is eastbound 676, just off 76, multi-vehicle crash is taking out the left lane, and with the right lane squeezing by you're getting thick traffic on the eastbound side of the schuylkill expressway. i think i would use the river drivers instead. mlk or the kelly take them into the benjamin franklin parkway from there you'll get back to the eastbound side of the vine. we're watching a crash at grange avenue and germantown pike. we have a firebombing in germantown along colter street along germantown avenue by the friends school. cheltenham avenue is a possible alternate. >> it's our breaking story, someone firebombed the home in the germantown section of philadelphia this morning and the homeowner said this wasn't the first time. katherine scott is live near the scene along east colter street, katherine. >> reporter: matt, i did just speak with fire officials they say an arson task force is investigating this, because this

has happened multiple times in this home this remains under investigation. investigators remain on the scene on east colter street in germantown. there were 8 family members inside the ends row home at the time including a 3-year-old and baby. the fire broke out around 3:45 a.m. and the resident tells me he was asleep when he heard a boom and the fire alarm. he went to investigate and said there were two canisters burning on the front porch. >> i heard the fire am alarm -- fire alarm, i said everybody get out. i opened the front door there were two containers with fire on them. i try tried to put water on the, but it wouldn't go out, i had to go out the back door and climb over the gate. >> the fire spread to the basement, but there's no word on how much damage there is. family members say a month ago someone tried to set the back porch on fire, but they were

unsuccessful. fire marshalls are on scene and they are looking for surveillance cameras in the area to see if there is any footage that would help in the investigation. katherine scott channel 6 "action news." >> let's move on to a developing story, police are looking for the person who may have been trying to shoot at a police officer in chester township. police in nearby municipalities blocked streets in the area, plus philadelphia tactical air helicopter unit has joined the search. so far police have not found the person who fired the shots. there are no reports of injuries. >> 6:05, now, the fbi has joined the search for a missing air college student last seen leaving a bar in manayunk four days ago. police scoured the waters of the canal yesterday. shane montgomery was escorted out of the bar early wednesday morning. he has not been seen since. a 15,000-dollar reward is being

last 15 minutes we watched a car burn along the eastbound side of the schuylkill expressway. luckily the fire department arrived and now there's less flames and smoke coming from it. obviously we have a traffic issue on the schuylkill expressway. >> that's been an incredible picture, matt pellman that smoking car as have been the backup on the schuylkill expressway eastbound. >> reporter: they are making good progress with the fire, matt and tam, but the progress for you driving on the schuylkill expressway eastbound. we start to jam around the conshohocken curve through this scene where the fire criticize are on the scone -- crews are on the scene eastbound by gladwyn of they have the fire pretty much extinguished. you can see the smoke coming from the vehicle. they are blocking the right lane. the left lane is getting by it's a slow go as you come east of the curve. one of those mornings when you went to think alternates to 76 eastbound schuylkill expressway. for instance ridge pike into

stealing 11 books from the rare and valuable collection. police say the limited edition books were snatched from the reading public library on wednesday avenue. surveillance video shows two men walking inside, one goes to the shelves and places the books in a bag and both men walk out. they are checking to see if the stolen copies are being offered on the internet. nothing so far, police are working to identify the men in the video. >> a couple from georgia remain behind bars accused of hiding a bar for four years. they were in court yesterday on charges including false imprisonment and child cruelty. john is the 13-year-old victim's biologic father. the teen came from florida to visit his father in 2010, but the father refused to return him. he managed to text his mother on saturday, police found the boy

details about what's going on there. the. >> this has been breaking news this morning a germantown family escaped out of an attempted firebombing overnight. katherine scott is on the scene gathering details. >> reporter: that's right, an attempted firebombing earlier this morning, now investigators are looking for surveillance footage in the area in the hopes of helping in the investigation. i did speak to a man inside the home. he said there were 8 family members inside the home, including two children, a baby and 3-year-old. nobody was hurt in all this. firefighters have taped off the seen on the unit block of colter street in germantown while this investigation is underway. the fire broke out at 3:45 a resident tells me he was asleep when he heard a boom and the fire alarm, he went to investigate and he said there were two canisters burning on the front porch. they tried to put the fire out with water, but couldn't, so the family ran out the back door and able to put the fire out with a

fire extinguisher, but the fire did spread to the basement. there was only light smoke when firefighters arrived. this is the second time when something like this happened to them, he said the last time they tried to set the back door on fire, but was not successful. investigators are trying to figure out who is responsible. >> they found incendiary devices at the front door, the occupant extinguished them. the citywide arson task force was composed of the fire department and bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms to conduct the investigation. >> you're setting my house on fire, for what, we don't even know the people it's like ghosts we trying to find and they trying to find. >> reporter: the fire marshal remains on the scene this remains under investigation, live in germantown, katherine

here's the cold front. it hadn't come through yet. ahead of it we get the southwesterly flow allowing the temperatures to get so warm. we have a change for tomorrow. i want to show you future tracker 6 we have a new model run with this. this is a look at 11:00 a.m., we're seeing showers, earlier it looked like we would see the showers coming in earlier around 7:00 a.m. this latest run suggests a little later. we are watching for the chance 6 wintry mix mixing in. temperatures will be above freezing, but you may see sleet pellets mixing in at the on set. in the afternoon we're above freezing, but maybe sleet pellets mixing in the northwest. the better chance for icing is in the lehigh valley. even the lehigh valley temperatures rising through the day, we're staying mild tomorrow, 6:30 in the evening we see some of that precipitation that could be wintry mix pushing toward the poconos.

exit. looks like things cleared up a little bit and cars are moving. >> matt pellman is back to work since thanksgiving. >> reporter: first morning of the week we had high hopes, but they went down quickly because of an earlier crash and vehicle fire by the gladwyn on-ramp, that's the on-ramp eastbound lanes of 76. for a time they had to block the eastbound lanes, that's not the case any more. all the activity with the vehicle fire confined to the shoulder because the fire is out. you're looking at hefty delays coming eastbound approaching the blue route into the earlier scene by gladwyn. at this point i think i would use the alternates, ridge pike could be a good bet. conshohocken state road, or route 30, lancaster avenue. the crash that we had on the eastbound vine off the schuylkill expressway that's long gone everything is reopened
