>> ♪ >> "action news." delaware valley's leading news program. with matt o'donnell, tamala edwards, karen rogers and meteorologist, david murphy. >> ♪ >> good morning,'s 5 o'clock, it is tuesday, december 2nd and here's what's happening. >> accuweather is tracking rain and perhaps even some snow in the far northwest suburbs. >> new details emerge about the lehigh valley man accused of killing his stepdaughter. >> bill cosby cuts his ties to temple university in the wake of growing sexual assault allegations. >> right to that wintry mix. let's go to karen rogers filling in for david and matt pelman with traffic. good morning. >> what a huge change in our weather. yesterday we had near record-high temperatures and today we're talking about a winter weather advisory and lancaster and your northwest suburbs including berks, lehigh, northampton counties where we're going to see a period of snow and sleet changing over to rain. i want to show you storm tracker 6 live 3-d looks as if

a lot of precipitation happening. as matt has been saying at this point most of the roads are dry of the. a lot of this is just evaporating right now. we're watching it closely. if it were precipitation in the northwest at this point it would be some light snow and also freezing mix but as we look at double scan right now, our closer view we can see that it's not actually raining, not reaching ground in allentown reading and lancaster right now. i think south of the city you're getting wet out here right now but it is just wet currently. we're watching though because satellite 6 and action radar showing the rain moving in and also because of the evaporative cooling coming down as sleet over the next few hours. you're hovering around the freezing mark in allentown, 33. 35 in reading, 39 in philadelphia, 38 in millville so you see in philadelphia and areas south that we are well above freezing. so it's mainly just rain along the i-95 corridor and south but you can see a mix happening today and it's going to rain throughout the day once it really gets started so a mix happening changing to rain in your immediate

northwest suburbs. you have to go nearly a town and areas north to get any real concern with the icing so that's the best chance of seeing this grassy coat dag with snow and sleet. i've got future tracker 6 standing by. we'll walk you through this forecast tell you exactly when this precipitation gets out of here coming up in a few, matt. >> all righty, i'm on the hunt this morning watching the traffic cameras to see any precipitation that's actually reaching the ground karen and so far just a few damp spots here along 42 in bellmawr, camden county. but no traffic troubles. the northbound headlights moving up toward the walt whitman bridge are moving along quite nicely. as you go to northeast philadelphia, little bit damp here as well perhaps but not wet by any means. this is 95 as you enter the work zone by cottman avenue, southbound go the taillights towards center city. moving along without any complaints this morning. if you're coming in from the bensalem area or maybe langhorne. meanwhile over on the schuylkill expressway it was a rough morning yesterday. this morning the polar opposite. so far clear, dry and very quiet as we look live by montgomery drive and that work zone that we had elsewhere on

76, the pennsylvania turnpike westbound past downingtown is clear both lanes opened there now but they're working on the northeast extension, northbound approaching the lehigh valley interchange and blocking the left lane in the process. tam. >> okay, thank you, matt. more disturbing details are coming out about the murder of a lehigh valley mother and it's her own stepfather who is under arrest. erin o'hearn joins us lie in the sat center. she's got new information. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, tam. extremely troubling details coming out of this investigation. we have now learned that authorities are investigating the possibility that gregory graf may have sexually abused the corpse of his stepdaughter jessica padgett after shooting and killing her. investigators believe there was a sexual motive behind this murder. there is no evidence, though, that the 33-year-old mother of three was having an avenue fair with her stepfather much padgett was found dead in allen township last thursday nearly a week after she

vanished. authorities say that the 53-year-old admited to killing padgett and disposing of her body on his property. now, a family friend who had helped organize many of the searches for padgett following her disappearance says her family will continue to need support. >> when you learn of something as tragic as what's happened, you go from helping in one way to helping in another. >> reporter: graf is charged with criminal homicide. he could face the death penalty if convicted. an online fundraiser has been set up online and i'll put that link on my facebook page as well as 6abc.com. we're live in the satellite center, erin o'hearn, channel6 "action news." >> erin thanks. new this morning philadelphia police are looking for the 15-year-old boy who they say beat his uncle so badly the relative is now fighting for his life. the action cam was at the scene of the beating a home on the 500 block of center street

in the lawncrest section. police found the man lying on the floor unconscious bleeding from his head. a woman who was in the home told them the man's nephew got into an argument with the man and during the argument the woman says the teen beat his uncle and ran off. the uncle is in critical condition. the red cross is helping residents in west philadelphia who were forced out of their homes by fire. the flames ravaged two row homes along media street last night. two women were taken to the hospital to be checked for smoke inhalation. >> it is now 5:05 and the sex assault scandal involving bill cosby has now reached his beloved alma mater. for 30 years cosby sat on the university's board of trustees but now he's turned in his resignation. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live there on temple university's campus and she's got the latest. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, tam. students here have a lot of strong opinions on this. they have a lot of different opinions as well. here at the school there is an online petition that has garnered more than a thousand

signatures urging the university to sever ties with cosby but he also had his fair share of supporters. still yesterday he resigned from the board. you would see him at commencement a tassel fixed to his temple baseball cap. he was the public face of the university, a fixture at events but the growing sex assault scandal has forced the school's most well known trustee to quit the board. he said ned a statement i have always been proud of my association with temple universitily i have always wanted to do what would be in the best interest of the university and its students. >> i think there's a bigger problem that we need to look at and if we can focus on that then i think that's a good decision. >> i'm in the surprised. i don't know if it's the right thing or not. that's kind of what everybody has to do in these types of things inch the allegations from more than a dozen women span decades. the 77-year-old has never been charged and strongly denies any wrongdoing. temple has defended cosby even during a 2005 civil suit filed

by a former university basketball employee who accused cosby of molesting her in his cheltenham mansion. in october, cosby was reelected to temple's 36 member board of trustees where he served since 1982 until yesterday when he resigned. >> it's a shame. i'm really sad to see it happen. they can't prove that he did it. it's just tough. >> reporter: now the board did release a statement. it was brief. they accepted cosby's resignation and they thankd him for his service. we're live in north philadelphia, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." >> katherine, thank you. president obama has given philadelphia police commissioner charles ramsey a big task. figure out what police should do to improve relations with minority students and get back to him in 90 days. commissioner ramsey is the cochair of the ferguson-inspired task force formed yesterday by the president. the goal is to find ways to reduce tensions between police and minorities. one proposal is to require all

police officers to wear body cameras. the philadelphia police department has just start add pilot program with the cameras. >> it's the future. it's what we ought to be doing to accurately capture the events that are unfolding, that the officer is confronted with. >> commissioner ramsey says the president has communicated a sense of urgency to the task force. >> and you will urgently be looking for your umbrella by the time the day is over. >> yeah, you know, i think this season more than any other that we've had, you have to watch the weather around the clock. it changes dramatic eightly. >> yeah. >> day by day. yesterday we were talking about near record warmth. today we have winter weather advisories. double scan looking around the region and it looks like it's raining everywhere. most is just evaporating. i think most importantly you can see if it were precipitating near lancaster and near reading we can see what it would be, a little bit of a freezing mix or snow. it's dry in those locations. i've been check all the observation reports just cloudy skies right there but you're getting rain south of

philadelphia that's reaching ground much let's show you what it looks like right now, sky 6 looking live at the center city skyline where we have lots of clouds up above currently. let's check the conditions for you. it's 39 degrees, so temperatures above freezing and well above freezing in philadelphia. but this is what's so important. look at the dewpoint. i know some people say why do we care about the dewpoint. the dewpoint shows you how much moisture is in the atmosphere. look how dry it is, a difference between 39 and 23. that means what looks like it's coming down as rain is evaporating. evaporative cooling is happening. if the temperature is above freezing it can be coming down as sleet or snow before melting so the dewpoint is really key today. the winds out of the northeast, that's important, too. yesterday it was out of the southwest. it was nice and mild. not the case today. what a huge change overnight. and the pressure 30.55-inches and we're bringing in our always on day planner to help you take a look through the day. satellite 6 and action radar showing what looks like rain throughout the region even looks like snow in some areas but i showed that you dewpoint

that means a lot of it evaporating. atmosphere will get moist and we'll get some of that rain. it will be kind of on and off today and you get this idea by luking at future tracker 6, we can watch this through 10:30 in the morning and it's not everywhere but at this point it will be reaching ground you'll be getting that rain south of the city, maybe even a little wintry mix coming down before melting on the surfaces in philadelphia and areas north. then even at lunchtime we're seeing some of that wintry mix in the northwest and then that pushes up just to allentown as temperatures continue to rise and this lasts until 5:30 in the evening. it's not raining constantly but on and off we'll get this precipitation until it kicks out of here about midnight. so, as we look at the precipitation type in philadelphia and south just rain a-quick mix changing to rain in your immediate northwest suburbs. i think the only real area where we could have concern with it being a little icy would be north of i-81 so nearly a town and areas north. that's your best chance for some snow and sleet to cause some concerns. looking at the temperatures through the day, we're talking by 9:00 a.m., 37, by noon, 38,

in the city 41, by 3:00 p.m., by 39 degrees by 6:00 p.m. we're staying above freezing. the road surfaces are very mild after the couple of days we've had. here's a look at your exclusive accuweather 7-day, rain and a wintry mix in the northwest, 42 for your high. much milder tomorrow, 55. we're just going to get a few showers around. it stays kind of dreary much of the seven day but not thursday. thursday is pretty good. it's dry and 46. friday damp and dreary again and 48. saturday periods of rain and 52 degrees. on sunday, mostly cloudy skies for the eagles and 52 but we won't be entirely dry, a few showers and monday a period of rain and drizzle and 54 degrees. up and down we go. >> yes. >> indeed. thank you karen. it's now 5:11 and next, a possible school plot foiled. a teen is under arrest accused of planning an attack that included targeting his classmates. >> a virginia farmer believes his pigs hold the secret to the next big thing in skin care. matt. >> okay. let's say good morning to our

we get suburban on this giving tuesday morning. giving report in king of prussia. a lot of people recognize this area because of this railroad bridge. it's where the schuylkill, 422, 202 all come together in king of prussia and we had some work scheduled where the three come together last night but i believe they postponed it because of the rain that we had last evening. at this point things are dry and of course no construction. so traffic's moving well. but let's talk about that construction zone on 422 because some big changes are going to be going into effect tomorrow between the stow interchange and route 100 going down to one lane for the next several weeks through the ends of the month on the bridge there over the schuylkill river. they have been working there for a little bit but the new restrictions begin tomorrow and will definitely cause delays. also getting word of a broken down vehicle on the ramp from stow to the westbound lanes of 422. you can squeeze by that. a new work zone began yesterday in sadsbury township chester county that closes valley road which is 372 during midst days from 9:00 until 3:00 through christmas eve. stick to strasburg road to get

around it. a couple restrictions along providence road. this one such darby has been there for awhile. a new one started along 252. restrictions during the mid days 9:00 until 3:00. stick to rose valley road as an alternate. let's do the computer report brought to you by the waze app. in percent zip sorry county this morning not a lost problems to report but a vehicle stopped in the shoulder where 195 and the jersey turnpike come together. you can get by that without any major issue. tam. >> thank you matt. police are crediting an observe vander student with preventing a shooting at a lawsuit utah high school. around noon yesterday the student noticed that a 16-year-old fellow student a handgun. the student quickly told a school resource officer and that end that officer along with other school officials confronted the student taking his gun and holding him until police got to the scene. investigators say the teen told them that he planned to gun down another student that he was upset with and then start shooting up the school. police believe the teenager was acting alone. a disabled army veteran in california says u.s. airways would not let his service dog

travel with him. army sergeant justin bond and his service dog boomer were on their way to hawaii to lead a therapy session to help suicidal vets. but bond says a u.s. airways supervisor would not let them on board even though they had the appropriate paperwork. bond eventually made it to hawaii without boomer. u.s. airways says it's looking into the incident. >> the flyers are hoping a trip out west will help turn things around. they visit the sharks in san jose tonight. the flyers have lost four in a row and have won only two of their last 10 games. any team can lament a losing streak and say well at least we're not the sixers. the spurs rested their stars during their visit to the wells fargo center and still beat the sixers 109-103. if they lose to minnesota tomorrow night, the sixers would be zero and 18 and would tie for the most losses to start a season in nba history. >> 5:17 now. we have an updaylight on a bucks county wedding photographer who has been accused of ripping off brides.

good intersection to avoid but mass transit so far so good this morning with everything on time. karen. >> all right, we've been watching a mixed precipitation ready for that a little bit later on. for the most part at this point we're just looking at rain in philadelphia south and east and it's pretty light. temperature well above freezing in the city, 39. we're hovering around the freezing mark but we're dry currently in allentown and 33. 34 in reading. 37 in millville. so, watching the temperatures pretty closely today. here's a look all right exclusive accuweather 7-day. we're watching for rain at times it's going to be on and off for the most part early on it's very light not even reaching ground most places at this point but a wintry mix in your northwest suburbs changing to rain later on. 42 degrees for your high, tam. >> thank you, karen. going on to health check there's more proof that prescription painkillers can be a deadly problem. the cdc says deaths from pain pills like vicodin percocet and oxycodone tripled between 199 and 2012 going from just over 4,000 deaths in 1999 to over 16,000 deaths in 2012.

separately officials also see a growing problem with heroin. heroin deaths have tripled during that same time period. a vaccine that fights breast cancer is showing some success in early trials. the new vaccine causes the patient's immune system to target a particular protein found in up to 80 percent of breast tumors but that protein is not found in most other tissue meaning fewer expected side effects. a small trial of 14 women found the vaccine to be safe and researchers at washington university school of medicine who developed the vaccine are now hoping to move it to a larger clinical trial. >> a child safety seat maker could be in a bit of trouble. abc's reena ninan and t.j. holmes have america's money. >> graco under investigation. the feds are looking into whether graco dragged its heels in reporting a defect in its child car seats. >> buckles could get stuck during an emergency. >> federal investigators are blaming a manufacturing defect
