>> ♪ >> "action news." delaware valley's leading news program. with matt o'donnell, tamala edwards, karen rogers and with matt o'donnell, tamala >> ♪ >> good morning. it's 5:00 a.m. on this wednesday december 3rd. we're following a developing story in wilmington, delaware. >> that is where the coast guard is searching for a man who plunged into the christina river. >> there are new developments in a case of hit and run that was caught on camera. police say they could be closing in on the suspected driver. >> and three churches go up in flames in a matter of hours, all in the same delaware community. the search is on for an arsonist. >> but first up let's take a quick look at your weather and traffic with meteorologist, david murphy off, karen rogers

has accuweather and matt pelman has traffic. good morning. >> good morning. let's start off with storm tracker 6 live double scan. still some drizzle out there in spots. we can see not a lot of rain but you'll get a shower or two that will be passing through the area coming out of the southwest but so is that more mild air can coming out of the southwest. so, it's better news there. let's look at some of the visibility reports in the area. showing us first satellite 6 and action radar you see those showers start to move through. we're really stuck with the clouds. you see the flow. there's more where this came from. not going to be terribly wet but spotty showers here or there through the morning into the early afternoon hours. 8-mile visibility at philadelphia international airport, no problem but fog reducing visibility to about 3 miles in parts of new jersey. 1.3 in allentown, 1 mile in reading, just a half a mile visibility right now in lancaster. so, the low cloud cover is an issue this morning. but here's a look at the northwest temperatures and what you're seeing is everywhere is above normal. temperatures actually rose overnight so above freezing. 39 in quakertown, 38 in saints david's. it's already in the 40's in

center city after a high just stuck in the upper 30's yesterday. 40 in hammonton and 40 in dover. although we're talking about showers through the area it's not a big concern as well as far as any freezing precipitation. you could see just some showers here or there. details in seven-day forecast coming right up, matt. >> all right karen. we're trying to see through the soup early on this wednesday morning. as you said some foggy conditions out there and we can see that here in bristol township bucks county along 95 at 413, also see a truck stopped off to the shoulder on the northbound side but that's not causing any problems. little bit of fog, definitely some wet roadways but at least we're not dealing with a whole lot of ice, certainly no snow out there this morning. had a crash on the roosevelt boulevard southbound approaching oxford circle that's out of the way but in narberth there's a fire location blocking off montgomery avenue by price avenue. stick with 30 lancaster avenue as an alternate around that and of course we'll keep you posted. also just getting word of an accident involving a pedestrian in bridgeport montgomery county. so watch out for the emergency crews responding along dekalb street at west fifth street.

in woolwich township gloucester county a tractor-trailer jackknifed overnight and ran off the road. road being the new jersey turnpike southbound side just south of exit two for route 322. i guess if there's good news it's that everything is off to the side so all lanes are opened as you head southbound toward the delaware memorial bridge but something we'll be watching on this wednesday morning. matt. >> keep us posted. thank you matt. developing this morning coast guard crews are continuing to look for a money who disappeared while on the christina river. a barge had capsized and tossed him into the water and that was more than nine hours ago. "action news" reporter eva pilgrim is live near the port of wilmington following the search. eva. >> reporter: well, matt the search is expected to resume this morning for a person who is thought to have fallen into the christina river near the port of wilmington when a barge capsized last night. now, this is video of the search efforts last night just before 7:00 an employee with the norfolk dredging company called the coast guard after

the barge capsized saying three crew members fell into the water. now, two of them were rescued quickly. crews are still searching for 25-year-old emanuel gatling. he was reportedly wearing an orange float coat. again, the search is expected to start again once the sun comes up. wilmington fire crews and the coast guard are helping in this search. we are live here at the port of wilmington, delaware. eva pilgrim, channel 6 "action news." >> we checked overnight. philadelphia police say they're closing in on a hit and run driver who left a man in critical condition only "action news" was there last night when police impounded the volvo station wagon they say hit the man. the vehicle has front end damage an cracked windshield. a tip call led police to the 200 block of south cecil street where the car was parked. sources close to the investigation say surveillance video obtained exclusively by "action news" shows that volvo hitting the victim and driving

away. a male was driving the car and the car owner, a woman, told police that her son and daughter also drive the vehicle. the 25-year-old victim has internal injuries and massive trauma to his head and his chest. >> three delaware churches that are just miles apart went up in flames yesterday and that gives investigators reason enough to believe the fires were not accidents. erin o'hearn joins us lie at the big board with that story. >> matt let's take a look at this map because it will give you a clearer picture as to how close these church arson were to each other. the trail of fires began at the healing hands christian church and that's in the 500 block of berry town road just before 2:00 a.m. now, while firefighters were battling that blaze, the manship chapel went up in flames. that's about 4 miles away from the healing hands church. then around 5:30 a.m., a third church, the laws mennonite church suffered the same fate resulting in roughly $10,000 worth of damage. now, everything is just

charred. many of the items here unrecognizable. you can imagine how emotional this is for members of each of the churches. fortunately, one of the churches suffered far less damage but the worst off was healing hands. it had a total loss -- it was a total loss and the fire caused about $75,000 in damage, devastating news for this community right before the holidays. >> we need a place now for sunday morning service and right now we don't have one. but we depending on god and we know god is a provider. >> now, church leaders are all thankful no one was injured. again, the state fire marshal's office does believe all the fires are connected but investigators are still looking for an arsonist. tam. >> okay, erin, thank you for that. and there will be a vigil tonight for missing west chester university student shane montgomery. it will take place at 6:00 in front of the sykes student union business on west chester

campus. wet weather hampered the search yesterday. can conditions were not especially conducive for sniffer dogs nor the marine unit. investigators still have not spotted the 21-year-old on any surveillance video that they've taken a look at. >> a bailout plan for atlantic city has been introduced into the state legislature. the plan would allow the casinos to collectively make a $150 million payment instead of paying taxes for two years. the $150 million would be substantially less. the tax revenue typically goes the redevelopment projects. it would instead be used to help pay off atlantic city's debts. >> let's turn to karen rogers now to find out what we can expect as we wake up on a foggy tuesday -- wednesday. [laughter] >> i'm foggy a little bit here. >> some people are foggy for different reasons but there is fog out there. i'm with you. let's take a look at storm tracker 6 live double scan around the region and you can see we not only have some low cloud cover, we also have some showers moving through. we are above freezing

everywhere so it is just showers and it's pretty light. i want to go in a little closer and you can kind of see the movement of this off in the southwest so the showers that we had out here that are a little more sustained near baltimore will be moving towards philadelphia within the next hour. let's go outside and show you what it looks like. yes, we're seeing some fog out there but you can still see the skyline along atlantic city right now. how about those temperatures? currently 41 degrees. we actually rose from yesterday already. so, temperatures have risen overnight. the dewpoint 38 degrees, a lot of moisture in the atmosphere and lots of low clouds. winds out of the southwest today. that's that more mild flow and the pressure 30.2-inches. satellite 6 and action radar showing that we have those showers moving through at this point and you can see even more where that came from. it's not constant. you'll get breaks in the action but some spotty showers here or there and lots of cloud cover just kind of feeling damp and dreary once again today. future tracker 6 showing at 8 o'clock new york you get a more sustained shower moving through but it's quickly out of here and then through the

morning maybe a spotty shower or two popping up. this is lunchtime maybe dry in the city but more showers starting to move through by about 1:30 when that front comes through. evening drive time is can actually looking better. the clouds are going to break a little bit and the spotty shower around should be really diminishing and then we're kind of clear overnight. as you look at the day ahead and try to plan your day for you, let's talk temperatures. 43 degrees by 9:00 a.m. with clouds and a shower. by noon, 49. by 3:00 p.m., 52. shower in one or two spots. drier by 6:00 p.m. and the clouds breaking, 48 degrees. today 53 for your high as that front comes through. we're dealing with lots of cloud cover and some spotty showers here or there but but tomorrow things start to get a little better for if you. we've got that high pressure that's going to build in. it's going fob chilly with 46 degrees but, hey, we'll see sunshine again. we haven't seen it in awhile. so, that will be some better news for you. here's a look at your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast. lots of clouds, some spotty showers, not terribly wet but at times you're getting those showers, 53 for your high.

finally the sunshine returns. we'll have some clouds mixing with it but we're dry with some sunshine and 46. friday more clouds again and then we get the chance for some showers. so, the clouds roll back in feeling dreary again and 48. saturday periods of rain and 52. on sunday for the eagles it now looks like we'll see more rain and a high only of 49 degrees. monday staying kind of dreary with clouds and some showers and 50. and tuesday the sun returns again. not seeing a lot of that sunshine. >> the eagles playing the seahawks are used to rain in seattle so i guess it's fitting. >> i guess so. >> thank you karen. 5:10. more news you didn't see last night. a teen tried to sneak back into his house and finds himself in even more hot water. >> a restaurant out west and luxury of flying aboard a pan am 747. >> matt. >> light rain falling along upper state road leaving us way very wet wednesday morning commute. we'll check some of the other roadways and talk about a crash in narberth coming up

police saint robber barged in at 3:30 a.m., told an employee he had a gun but the employee didn't see a gun. the robber did get off with some money. they're not saying how much. no one was physically hurt. >> now let's turn and take another look at your suburban traffic report. go over to matt pelman see what things look like. good morning. >> we go from cyber monday to giving tuesday and now we're back to shopping this morning matt and tam. as we head to the burbs and king of prussia a friendly reminder that we have 22 days left until christmas, so maybe later on head out here to the mall. i know i should probably get started. good news along 202 is this morning things are wet but otherwise the traffic looks fine as you pass the king of prussia mall but as you get a little bit to the north we have a problem in bridgeport. it's an accident involving a pedestrian, emergency crews are now on the scene along dekalb street at west fifth street there by the pizzeria. good intersection to avoid this morning. we got a fire in narberth we're watching and it's shutting down busy montgomery avenue. all lanes blocked at price

avenue this morning because of that fire location. that's right there by the manhattan bagel. you could use bryn mawr avenue, maybe wynnewood road as a possibility alternate or stay on 30, lancaster avenue, to get around that blockage. not a ton of construction o it there this morning because of the wet conditions but a couple zones here in camden county. they're working on 130 both ways just north of 168 blocking a couple lanes until 6 o'clock, a couple lanes also along 168 itself both ways just south of nicholson road. time for the commuter report brought to you by the waze app. if your inn you're on the northeast extension you're dealing with wet conditions and foggy weather us a travel around salford montgomery county. matt and tam. >> thank you, matt. it was a very sad scene in knoxville, tennessee yesterday. two school buses collided killing two students and an adult aide. officials have not released the name but they did say that the children who died were in the third grade or below. another twenty seven people were injured, three of them seriously. an arizona teen will probably never forget his house key again. the 13-year-old boy got locked out, decide to do climb in

through the chimney and got stuck. the teen used his cell phone to call 911. rescuers pulled him out safely. he was shaken up but not hurt. >> the sixers can make history tonight if they lose again they tie the nba record for the most losses to start the season which stands at 18. they may have a chance to actually win this one. they play the minnesota timberwolves who only have four wins. while we're on the subject of losing, the flyers did it the hard way in san jose last night. oh, the sharks scored the winning goal with 11.5 seconds left. steve mason had made 25 saves but had no chance to stop that game winner. the flyers lose two to one, their fifth straight. they play the ducks in anaheim tonight. eagles are back at work after getting a few days off following their thanksgiving blowout of dallas. they're getting ready to face super bowl champion seattle seahawks on sunday afternoon at the linc. seattle has the the nfl's number one defense. kickoff at 4:25. >> going to be a good game it's 5:16 and the cdc releases

>> a man drove his car onto the sidewalk at the golden gate bridge and got stuck. hehe was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. no one else was hurt. police arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence. a crane had to be brought in influence. >> wow. >> sidewalk is not where you're supposed to go that's for sure. >> no. >> a few other spots where you're not really supposed to go this morning. unfortunately you need to avoid painter's crossing. we started the show almost an hour ago talking about a crash on the northbound side of 202 at baltimore pike. now there's one on the

southbound side just happened a few minutes ago. emergency crews just pulled up to the scene and they're blocking off all of the southbound lanes of 202 as you come south of baltimore pike at painter's crossing. of course we'll keep watching that. watch agnew crash in pottstown, north charlotte street at saint john street. today is the day we get new restrictions along 422 along stowe and route 100 down to just one lane in each direction and we do expect that to cause delays. karen. >> you can see some fog in parts of the region. i want to show you where the best chance for this is the lehigh valley where we're looking at 1.3-mile visibility in allentown and 1 mile in reading and lancaster, .3 in mount pocono. 9-mile visibility in philadelphia. not a problem there. let's check your planner for the day and help you walk through this day. we'll see some spotty showers around lots of clouds feeling damp and dreary. by 9:00 a.m., 43 so temperatures already above freezing we are just talking about showers, nothing is icy out there at this point. by noon 49 degrees with lots of clouds. by 3:00 p.m., 52, another spotty shower around and we

should be pretty dry by 6:00 p.m., 48 degrees and those clouds will be starting to clear, matt and tam. >> okay, thank you, karen. going on to health check federal health officials are urging insurance companies to cover circumcisions. they say the benefits here outweigh any risks. the government is not telling parents to have their newborn sons circumcised since that is a very touchy subject based on religious and cultural beliefs. in the first federal guidelines on this procedure the cdc says the medical evidence does seem to support the practice. it shows that circumcision can lower a male's risk of sexually transmitted diseases urinary tract infections and even cancer. new rules for the nation's can kidney transplant system go into effect tomorrow. called longevity matching donor kidneys with the most vitality will be offered first to patients who are expected to survive a trance plant the longest. another big change. people who started dialysis before getting in line for a transplant will be credited for that dialysis time moving them up on the waiting list.

>> ♪ >> 5:25. good morning, everyone, it is wednesday. that's philadelphia international airport. things going smoothly there but out in california, san francisco seeing 25 cancellations because of this big storm system in the pacific which is what we're going to talk about right now. parts of southern california could get up to 6-inches of rain today. much of the state is drought ridden which poses a problem when the rain comes down too fast. heavy rains yesterday caused flooding 'cause the dry ground can't absorb it. residents at the foot of wildfire scarred mountains are preparing to evacuate. the pacific storm is also dumping much needed snow on the parched mountains of northern california. the auto industry is part of the bread and butter of the u.s. economy and right now cars are crushing it. abc's reena ninan and t.j. holmes have america's money. >> ♪ >> reporter: good morning. topping america's money strong
