good afternoon, sara is off and president obama nominates a philadelphia native as the new secretary of defense, and nasa's orion's spacecraft lifts off successfully in florida. but the big story is a soggy afternoon and a continuing rain that unfortunately impacts the weekend, and it will clear out on sunday, sky 6 hd looking at philadelphia international airport, it will likely lead to flight delays today and tomorrow, so check with your airline before you fly out or if you have anyone flying in. now to melissa magee with the latest from accuweather. hi melissa, not a total washout? it's a bit of a 50/50 weekend, we have moisture moving in later this afternoon and into the evening hours. for the rest of the afternoon though we look mostly dry. the temperatures though, a

chilly start, north and west 35, and the poconos below the freezing mark at 29 degrees, you get the northeast wind from beach haven it's 51 degrees. off so the south and west we are tracking light rain and mist and drizzle around our northwest suburbs and mixed precipitation right through the poconos. we'll widen out the picture on stormtracker 6 live double scan, you can see the moisture we are tracking is moving out of the ohio valley and this moves southward and makes its way from a southward direction throughout the day and overnight tonight and into the first half of the weekend. we'll time things out for you, and it's mostly dry and light sprinkles south and west of the i-95 corridor, right through 8:00, light rain develops from a west to east direction and we have light rain in most

the search. >> we are making an appeal, for anybody that has security cameras. >> investigators looked at surveillance cameras along the store fronts, and he doesn't appear in any of them. the only one he appears in is when he and his friends were on their way to kildares. shane disappeared after leaving kildares just before 2:00 thanksgiving morning, since then the police and his family have launched a massive search effort and the 21-year-old is a student at westchester university where his classmates held a vigil and family gathered at st. johns church as they continued their effortses to raise public awareness. >> this is a nightmare to my family, my son has been gone for seven days, my son is my youngest child, i miss him

their car into a tree in cheltenham county, it happened before 1:30 a.m. near front street, police say that the driver lost control and hit a tree and crashed a number of parked cars, the person has not been identified. fire damaged the home in the logan section of philadelphia, it started before 7:00 a.m. on west comb street. the fire was coming from the second floor when firefighters arrived. and emergency crews were called to bristol township for the report of a gas leak, they had to dig into the roadway on bristol pike and the leak was lor reported on a high pressure line. well, there is a growing number of protests from coast-to-coast as demonstrators across the country continue to clash with police as they express outrage over grand jury

decisions in new york city and ferguson, missouri, carolyn costello joins us with the latest from new york. >> reporter: rick, demonstrations across the country are growing in number and in some cases getting more aggressive. people from coast-to-coast protesting deadly police force. thousands surged through the streets of new york city for a second straight night. disrupting traffic and expressing outrage over the death of eric garner and that the officer will not be charged in his arrest. he died from injuries to the neck and chest after this incident caught on video. some protesters threw bottles at officers, a sign that protesters are getting more aggressive. that was reported in denver,

colora colorado, during a protest four police officers were struck by an out of control car, one officer is in critical condition. still the majority of pro tests across the country remain peaceful. >> it's empowering but at the same time you feel like, you know, helpless, you wish there was more you could do. >> as protesters from coast-to-coast chant eric garner's last words, protests continue for michael brown, the police shooting of the unarmed black teenager is expected to arrive in the state capital after a 130 mile march from the shooting site. >> the nypd's internal investigation began today, officers involved in garner's death are being interviewed and they could face disciplinary action, and now they are rolling

out a new pilot program and officers are wearing the body cameras. >> thank you. new jersey governor, chris christie, comes out clean in the legislative probe of the bridge lane closure scandal. a new report says that investigators found no evidence that he was involved in lane closures of the george washington bridge. but two former aides were involved and acted with little regard for public safety. the report will be released to the public on monday. veterans and local officials stopped to remember the victim of the attack on pearl harbor. the memorial comes two days ahead of the 73rd anniversary of the 1941 attack that killed sailers, marines and soldiers. there is much more to come on "action news" at noon, after several delays, the orion

and homes after getting trapped in muddy floodwaters, a new report indicates that 99% of california remains at a moderate drought or worse despite the storm. >> new questions this noon about the cleveland police officer involved in the shooting of a 12-year-old boy, police shot tamir rice within two minutes after spotting him at a playground. the officer tim lowman had recently retired from a police department, after loss of composure during live training and they said he lacked the maturity for the job. they did not check his personnel file before they hired him. people returning to -- to look at killer whales, a dead

orca is on the beach. wildlife experts hope it's not an orca from farther south. meanwhile, a seal pup is headed home after making a full recovery, little dinner wiggled into the water in mystic connecticut, the harbor seal pup was rescued in may after being abandoned and injured. he will live out his days as a wild animal. the mystic aquarium has rehabbed and releases 16 seals so far this year.

apple is accused of deleting music from customer's ipods, a class action lawsuit for 8 million customers. they were told to reset their ipods if they bought from music stores other than itunes. despite the trouble in philadelphia, the owners are optimistic about uber, they raised $1 billion from

investors, it's worth $41 billion and it has raised twice as much as its closest rival. at health check this noon, there are moms that do not produce enough breast milk to feed their babies, one drug they use shows it tripled production but could cause sudden cardiac death, it's not approved by the fda in the u.s. but is available at special pharmacies and overseas. this new report may make women think twice about this option. a couple in colorado gave birth to a baby girl weighing almost 13 expounds. she was expected to be 7 pounds but weighed 13 pounds 7 ounces, she had to be flown to childrens

melissa is back with a look at the forecast, kind of a mixed back, tomorrow we have showers and some of which will be heavy tomorrow night, once we get into sunday for the eagles, the big game, we have better news on the way. stormtracker 6 live double scan showing you we have some very light precipitation in south and west of philadelphia, some light rain, some drizzle across our northwest suburbs and down across areas in delaware, we'll watch the precipitation move in as we get into the evening hours, it will be light in nature and the real batch of moisture and heavy batch of rain moves into saturday night. we'll show you the picture outside, sky 6 hd live a nice

shot of the center city skyline, a cloudy one and we'll watch the precipitation move in from southwest to northeast direction later on tonight and more on the way for saturday. we have a winter weather advisory that is posted for the poconos, as the moisture moves in later on this evening for areas north and west in the poconos, where temperatures are below freezing and a wintry mix before a gradual change over to rain. currently outside in the city, coming in at 42 degrees, the pressure is 30.51, temperatures outside 42 in the city and north and west of town, lancaster 46 and 51 in beach haven and 50 in atlantic city, you get relatively warmer air from the atlantic. here is satellite 6 along with action radar lots of clouds around and mist and drizzle and you'll notice the mixed precipitation moving to the

north and west, we'll widen out the picture though, we are tracking this throughout the day on saturday, moisture moving out of the ohio valley, coming from the southern plain states, coming in from the gulf of mexico. and we have wet weather through the day on saturday. 2:30 in the afternoon, light rain and drizzle, the steadiest is off to the west by 8:00 this evening, there are holiday light shows and christmas tree lightings going on and most of that precip holds off and is light in nature, from the poconos at 8:00, right through lancaster we have a little bit of rain and wet weather is around for philadelphia areas north, the moisture is coming in in waves, one wave tonight and a lull in the activity saturday morning and throughout the day and then as we get into saturday afternoon and evening, you do notice the heavy rain is around much of the delaware and lehigh valley, some spots a half inch

nationwide chorus for reforms after deciding not to indict police officers in ferguson and new york city. we have a live report. plus jerry sandusky's adopted son speaks up about the abuse he says he suffered. and will and kate the star studded events for the royal couple. and three high schools are scheduled die-ins to protest the decisions in ferguson and new york city. they are taking place throughout the day and chad pradelli is live in center city where several hundred students have gathered. >> reporter: yes, i found the youth of today is much more tolerant and open to discuss race here in america and today students here in the philadelphia school district, black, whites and hispanics gathered for a series of die-in

protesters the most recent at the science leadership academy. students joined a collective group of students across the city to stage a die-in for what they say is an injustice in ferguson and new york city. >> hopefully people will see this, and do the same thing, hopefully it will spread all over and we hope that more people take heed into what happened and get justice. >> think that a lot of teenagers especially are open to the idea of talking about racial issues, these are photos from this morning at the die-in, there are a lot of different races and ethnicities, they were peaceful and quick and monitored by a small concontingent of police. >> it was nice to sit with my peers knowing they care so

early this morning, the blaze broke out at 4:00 a.m. on the unit block of south conestoga street, when crew as rived flames were shooting out of the rear of the house and firefighters got it under control in a half hour, no word on how badly the person was hurt or what sparked the blaze. >> a newcastle county man has been charged with connection with the accidental shooting of a toddler back in september. the little boy shot himself when he found a gun. 34-year-old anthony graves is charged with unlawfully permitting a minor to a firearm and endangering the welfare of a child. it happened in his home, the 2-year-old shot himself in the head, he is he expected to be discharged later this month. a substitute teacher in ocean county was arrested on

child pornography charges, in his manchester home. he was charged with one count each of possessioning and describe outing child pornography. he recently worked at manchester high school and they say he had undergone a background check and was cleared to teach. jerry sandusky talked about his two abusive fathers in winfield heights. matt sandusky details it for the philadelphia children alliance conference. matthew was abused and burned by his father and sexually abused after being adopted by jerry sandusky. he met him through the youth charity, and today matt talked about when and why the alleged abuse stopped. >> we know that pedophiles and perpetrators have multiple victims at the time of the
