good morning. >> storm iraq has been working overtime this morning because of that coastal low started down to our south is pushing close to us and you can see what it's doing to the area. we have a decent amount of rain from philadelphia south into the northern and western suburbs. the closer you are to the lehigh valley the better chance you have of mixed precipitation and that could influid freezing rain and maybe wet snow. we are expecting this warm air to come up from the south and change you over to all rain over the next couple hours. for now you still got some issues up there. winter weather advisories are in effect earl today in those northern areas and, see that it's only up until about 7 o'clock in philadelphia's immediate suburbs then you get up into the lehigh valley and we're still looking at an expiration of this at about 7:00 to maybe 10 o'clock and then winter storm warnings are going to be in effect a little bit later on into the day up in the poconos where we think you are going to get a longer prolonged period of snow up there.

wind advisory down the shore as well. gusts could go 40 to 50 miles per hour and this goes well beyond the worst of the rain up until 4 o'clock this afternoon so that's something to keep a mind. we have a coastal flood warning in effect and an advisory at the top of the delaware bay. high tide is between flynn clock and 11 o'clock roughly. some spots might be a little bit before then. but these are generally the hours where you're looking at moderate tidal flooding because of that on shore flow. we have a flood watch in effect. this is pretty much throughout the day. creeks and streams could flood, definitely poor drainage area roads. again we're looking at everything around i-95 corridor down to about atlantic city, the lehigh valley not as much of a concern there us a may not get quite as much rain. in terms of what it feels like today, 38 degrees as you head outside, 33 in allentown. that 38 in philadelphia same thing in wilmington. 42 in millville and a little bit milder over by the shore. notice how we have temperatures closer to freezing up north right now and that's where you've got that mixed precipitation going on. and as we roll through the day 38 degrees currently, 40 by 8 o'clock and then temperatures

not going all that far. 43 by noon. by 3 o'clock, 44 degrees. that will be your high. i could see us sitting on it between 2 o'clock and 3 o'clock. by 6 o'clock not much different 43. most of your heavy rain is likely to be in the morning and early afternoon. and it may taper off a little bit as we go later into the afternoon and evening. but even beyond the heavy stuff you could still have that lingering flooding issue. so, matt pelman it's early but i'm hearing there are already some issues on the roads. >> oh, yeah, we're already seeing vehicles losing their footing you might say as they travel and hit some of these small ponds and lakes that we have right in the middle of the highways. for instance, this one right here, david, it's 95 southbound side right by the exit for the betsy ross bridge. can you make out little lake right there on the left side of the screen? police kind of on the backside of that lake and then up ahead they are tend to go iraq 52 that spun out, hit the lake hydroplaned was facing sideways into the median barrier. already an accident on 95 southbound this morning here by the betsy ross bridge. luckily a tow truck is on the

scene. hopefully it's out of there before too long. we had overnight construction. believe it or not they were still out there working along 95 near cottman. that work zone is gone. no accidents on the schuylkill although we know they'll pop up. we have one on washington lane it's a red ambler road in addition to a house fire in west oak lane blocking off middleton street. walnut lane a possible alternate. there was a crash on the northeast extension northbound approaching the lehigh valley, an area in which we're getting reports of icy conditions. that crash cleared but watch out for the slick spots on the northeast extension, 22, 78, 222, anywhere up here in the lehigh valley there's a strong possibility you're going to go slip sliding if you go too fast and then try to brake. we're also expecting -- we got something for everybody this morning. a tacony palmyra bridge opening in a few minutes. looks like traffic is still moving at the moment. i would head to the betsy ross bridge as an alternate. 42 in bellmawr camden county no issues at this point no construction but it's

winds and it's just going to get even stronger in the next couple of hours. so you really want to buckle up because we're in for quite a morning in atlantic city. as you take a look down the empty atlantic city boardwalk you can see the rain has been coming down in sheets. the boardwalk is glistening in this rain and we saw heavy rain the whole way from philadelphia and you do want to watch out for the ponding and pooling on the road when you head out today because it's certainly already there. then there's the wind. you can see the flags, the korean war memorial whipping around in the winds here. the gusts can get very strong at times and of course across the way from those flags is the water and now it's dark, it's early, it's difficult to see from here. you can just make out the water if you take a look out there and it's just churning. it's very, very rough. coastal flooding is expected especially as we hit high tide later this morning. not that december is particularly famous for its beach days but this one isn't

4:09 am
but it isn't happening yet as we expect at this early hour. i'll swing down towards reading honeybrook the western edge of chester county there's also mixing going on here as well. the other issue is on the wider view that heavier rain we see plowing through south jersey and fairly close to philadelphia. you can see some drying back by wilmington and dover as we start to go through the morning i think some of that dry air is going to start to push in and this heavier band will probably spin up to the north of us. for now a lot of heavy stuff in philadelphia and down through areas of south jersey and some decent rain with that mixed precip out to the west of philadelphia as well. i'll leave you with that wide view. it's an evolving situation. it will improve as we go later into the morning but for now we've got icy stuff up north and the heavy rain especially on the eastern half of the delaware valley right now. as we take a look outside, we have sky 6 and it is wet out there and the other part of the package today, of course, is the wind and you'll
4:10 am
definitely see our sky 6 cameras bouncing around a bit today as those winds are gusty as we move through the day. right now in philadelphia, 38 degrees is your current temperature. winds out of the northeast at 16 miles per hour. enough to make it feel pretty chilly out there. and we've got a 21 miles per hour sustained wind in wilmington and even stronger winds generally down to the south where you're closer to the center of that coastal storm as it passes by. we'll get wind gusts today that will be a lot higher than those numbers i just showed you so look for a blustery and wind swept rain. here comes the rain and you can see the main batch of it along the eastern half of the region. we've also got that changeover i showed you out to the north and west and generally warm air is going to improve things in terms of changing that blue into greens and reds later on. future tracker between now and about 10 o'clock is showing that we're still pretty wet around here and even after the heaviest rain gets past the given area you're still going to have lingering problems on the roads with ponding and puddling and maybe some
4:11 am
streams and creeks running high. we're looking at the latest runs of the model pretty quickly taking that heaviest stuff off to the north. the afternoon features a lot less rain overall and we'll see that changeover to rain up north by later this afternoon as well. later on tonight there's the possibility of a few more snow showers in the poconos, maybe a couple more rain showers in philadelphia but obviously the worst is this morning out of this. as we roll through the day it stays cool, 40 degrees by 8 o'clock, 42 by 11 o'clock and then 2 o'clock 44 which is your high and 5:00 pretty much the same thing. notice how most of our heaviest rain is in the first part of the day, not so much later on. and how much rain are we expecting? still a lot of disagreement on the models. i do think this 3.82 is a little bit much but 1 to 2 inches generally looks good and then a couple of isolated places when you add everything that's already fallen and what's yet to come could wind up with as much as three. right now looks like that would be in the eastern part of the region. wind gusts actually today are going to be pretty strong. 30 to 40 miles per hour at times in the i-95 corridor and as high as 50 right down at
4:12 am
the shore. so, hold onto your hats today and look out for debris on the roads. a couple issues then today. we are looking at lots of water with heavy rain. that 1 to 2 inches, some areas possibly getting three and then the gusty winds that will help produce some coastal flooding especially at times of high tide between 9:00 and 11 o'clock this morning down along those shore points. your exclusive accuweather seven days, heavy rain at times this morning, windy otherwise, still kind of damp in the afternoon and a high of just 44. and then tomorrow still windy. we might see a couple of wraparound snow showers popping through the region tomorrow. i don't think it will put down too much but it's possible when you get up tomorrow morning you've got a little coating in some areas. 43 is the afternoon high and then thursday we're looking at basically dry conditions, maybe a flurry, a high of 42. up to 44 then on friday and on saturday we improve to 47 and 48 on sunday. the weekend is actually looking pretty seasonable for the middle of december. >> okay. thank you very much, david. 4:12 now and still to come
