family and the entire city. vernon odom is live outside of energy 64 in long crest, but first chad pradelli is live at the scene of the blaze, you have the details on what happened there this morning. >> reporter: jim, joyce craig-lewis was one of the first firefighters here on scene and she went into the burning building behind me trying to save a life and ended up losing her own. looking from the outside it doesn't appear to be one of the most devastating fires but one of the most tragic in city history. downstairs they encountered heavy smoke and a superior pulled them back and then her brothers in line realized she was still in line. craig-lewis got on her radio and called for help. >> 928 begin evacuation. we are getting emergency evacuation, they say they are

trapped in the basement. >> we understand there was a call and she did call and indicate she was in distress. >> efforts to resuscitate the veteran on scene were unsuccessful. a procession escorted her body to the medical examiner's office which will determine the cause of death. >> she loved her job and was a heavily trained firefighter that served in some of the busiest stations in the city on behalf of our citizen. >> i know she is a great firefighter and i know she gave her life saving and protecting the residents of this city. >> fire commissioner david sawyer says that basement fires are among the most dangerous, it's like walking into a chimney, an investigation is underway to see how she got trapped. everything from the timeline to her equipment will be analyzed.

veteran. she died in the row home fire this morning, she was overcome in the smoke and heat and darkness. >> i did know her personally and i know she was a hard worker and a firefighter's firefighter. she started out at engine 9, a pretty decent company and wanted to learn her craft and asked to be transferred to a busier company. >> our thoughts and prayer goes to craig-lewis's family, this brave firefighter gave her life attempting to save the life of an elderly, frail woman this morning. >> 150 women now serve in uniform in the philadelphia fire department. she leaves behind two children. a 16-year-old son and a daughter only 16 months old. >> i knew joyce and she was

berks county. temperatures are generally in the 40s, 45 in philadelphia, and 42 in allentown and 40 in reading and in the poconos 35 degrees, but colder air is being pulled down so a winter weather advisory is posted for the poconos where the rain showers will turn to wet snow, 2 to 5 inches expected in the poconos tomorrow. farther down to the south we'll see some snow showers but it shouldn't accumulate. this is a big rain storm for the region, but how much you got depended on your location. lets head over to meteorologist, melissa magee. >> yes, we got a lot of rain in areas of south jersey with this storm system, the nor'easter that moved on through. when you look at the rainfall totals from last night, areas of lakehurst and atlantic city and wildwood. as you move into wildwood and south of allentown, we saw 1 to 1.5 inch of rainfall and less

than an inch into lancaster. and tighter on the areas in south jersey, chads worth and pomona and woodbine finding anywhere from 2 to 3 inches of rainfall. peak wind gusts was another big story, philadelphia 36 miles per hour wind gusts and wildwood 44 miles per hour and tucker ton and harvey cedars during the heart of the storm we saw winds in the lower 50s, we are tracking showers and still a dreary evening on the way and newsroom wednesday, the wrap around moisture, cecily was talking about rain and snow showers are likely but the accumulating snow showers you'll have to move to the north to the poconos, coming up cecily tynan has future tracker 6 standing by to show you when the showers will exit and the sun will make an appearance. lets go live to brant beach and nora muchanic. tough conditions today. what is the situation now? >> the water has receded a lot

in the last hour or so, but many roads on the island are still flooded, long beach boulevard, the main artery running through lbi is closed in sections because all of the water is still sitting in the streets. this is what long beach boulevard looks like. the main drag is shut down by flooding after the nor'easter hammered the shore that pushed water into the streets. >> it's amazing, i walked out of my front door and it's a river, i don't know what way we'll go but that is what you get when you live on an island. >> the rain is torrential and the wind is like nothing we have ever seen, we are only from mount laurel but it's a totally different world. >> traffic is diverted because traffic here is risky in spots. it keeps people like zach busy. >> people will call and say can

in other news tonight, a fight turned into a stabbing this afternoon at a subway restaurant in mercer county. police responded to the dover park plaza at 1:00, a man st stabbed a woman and then drove off. he later called the police and surrendered. police believe the two men seen holding up in gas station are behind a similar crime in montgomery county last week. this is nut road in schuylkill township. police say that the thieves forc forced the clerk to the back of the store and attacked him and stole his honda from the parking lot. they believe these are the same

men that hit a gas station on butler pike. a man was formerly charged in mount holly. jesus garcia appeared before the judge via video hookup, and the judge granted bail be raised to $200,000. he was charged with disturbing human remains, after his girlfriend was found dead in her car outside of a hotel in maple shade and the m.e. says there is no signs of trauma on the body. the to men arrested for three church arsons in delaware now face burglary charges, deputy fire marshals apprehended the men yesterday and investigators believe they set fire to three churches and felton last tuesday. today delaware state police arrested the pair on burglary

melissa put this on my facebook page, this is 57th street beach, you can see what happened with all of the beach erosion and we have some pretty significant beach erosion and this is about the same location only two weeks ago, the pounding of the winds and waves on the beach really cause all the problems for the coastal flooding and beach erosion, and we don't have the winds out of the northeast but out of the west. they are still strong at 16 miles per hour and the shore had wind gusts of 50 miles per hour and the wind gusts diminished and are pulling out colder air, it can snow above 32 and allentown 42, and philadelphia 45 and wilmington 44 degrees. satellite 6 along with action radar showing really the steady rain is up to the north and this was a liquid event for the

entire i-95 corridor, you have to get through northern new england to see heavy accumulating snow, future tracker showing snow showers in the poconos early in the morning showers turning to snow in the northern and most of the activity is north of our region but it will be unsettled. expected snowfall is 2 to 5 inches in the poconos, where the ski resorts really like it but farther down to the south, northern chester and northern montgomery and upper bucks and the lehigh valley and berks county, we are looking for the potential for a grassy coating of an inch, the roads are just too warm for that. and the precipitation is on the light side, still unsettled and windy and snow showers, and light snow showers in the far northwestern suburbs, a few of them could make it to

philadelphia. 43 in the cooler suburbs and 36 degrees for center city and the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, tomorrow not all day precipitation but lots of clouds and it will be breezy and cool and the normal high for this time of year, and it's cooler than that with a high of 40 and the best chance of precipitation is north of philadelphia. thursday it gets colder, 39 degrees and lots of clouds and it's breezy with a few snow showers, no accumulation but on thursday temperatures are at or above freezing, anything that does fall on untreated surfaces, there could be icy patches on thursday morning, the clouds break for sunshine and saturday chilly and dry but 44, so dry weather for the eagles game and monday finally we hit 50 degrees and tuesday sunny and 48
