residents brace for what could be the worst storm in years. and jimmy rollins could be heading out west. buts big story is the weather that affected our commute. we have several accidents and more on that in a moment. and people woke up to snow like here in chester county. drivers took it slow done the streets and some people got out the snow brush to clean off their vehicles, lets look at the center city skyline and visibility could be a problem if are you out there right now and it's cold and cloudy and we have better news in the forecast ahead now. david murphy is at the big board with the latest from accuweather. >> stormtracker 6 live double scan handling the snow, can you see what is going on here, the pinwheeling motion around an upper level low pressure center taking spokes of energy and

bringing it down to the great lakes and that one here in philadelphia which is a continuation of what we had in the broadcast. the white stuff is pushing into south of wilmington and south jersey. and northern and western suburbs you have most of the snow in the early morning hours, it's starting to taper off a bit. snow in northern chester county and a band pushing into allentown and parts of mercer county citying this as well. most of our temperatures in our region are so mild is creating just a coating on grassy surfaces and wet roaded. 37 in philadelphia and 36 in millville. even if you are getting a nice banding of snow it's not doing much on the surface, we have

"action news" reporter katherine scott is live near the scene on washington lane with the latest from there. >> the 50-year-old officer is a 7-year veteran of the force and he was talking and conscious at the hospital this morning. early this morning washington lane was closed and it happened further down washington lane, the second one the officer was injured. >> we were very lucky today.

>> lucky that a cheltenham township police officer was alive after being hit by this car. officers had initially been called to this overpass for an accident and the roads had been icy and at 6:20 a.m., one officer put out road flares. >> when he went to put the flares out he realized the traffic was coming quickly. he had a flare in his hand and the good part was that the flare fell away and not on his clothes thark could have been a disaster. >> the officer was rushed to the hospital with internal injuries. accident investigators gathered

evidence at the scene, family members are still being notified and the officer's name has not been released. >> we saw a penndot truck salting before they opened the road, this accident remains under investigation. authorities are now focusing on their search for shane montgomery on the banks of the schuylkill river, surveillance cameras captured the student walking across the bridge that leads to a parking lot across the river, police reviewed their cameras immediately thanksgiving morning but recently tried a different time frame and spotted shane, the reward now is at $65,000 for information. a carjacking ended in a crash at winfield, it happened

at 58th and lebanon avenue. the driver tried to get away but crashed into a parked car, the gunman fled the scene and the driver remains in critical condition at the hospital of pennsylvania. two vacant homes caught fire in the kensington section of philadelphia. the sun was coming up in the 1800 block of east clear field street, dozens of firefighters responded to fight the blaze and no injuries were reported and the city's fire marshall were called to the scene. now on the west coast they are embracing for heavy rain as much as 8 inches could call resulting in flooding and landslides. >> reporter: good afternoon this monster storm has been pummeling the west coast causing problems

from california to the state of washington, high winds and torrential rain is slamming the west coast. in washington state, large chunks of land cracking and ending up in the water. a third homeowner fears his home could be next. heavy rain across western washington flooding streets like this one, drivers defiantly trying to get through. in northern california, winds could reach up to 70 miles per hour and in san francisco, the great highway that runs next to the pacific ocean shut down because of blowing sand, hundreds of schools across the bay area are closed and the highway patrol is warning anyone on the road to pack an emergency kit. >> we already have saturated soil. >> down in southern california fears looming over more mudslides, workers emptying

in florida, an elderly man is alive all because of the heroic actions of a stranger and it was all captured on cell phone camera. he was watching when a 91-year-old man drove his car into a lake, he dove into the water and car started to sink. the driver was unconscious. >> he grabbed a hammer and brokele window and dragged the man to shore. they did cpr aand brought the mn back to life. nancy mahoney was there to get her $175 speeding ticket

mcdonald's is eliminating several items from their menu as the fast food join speeds up service, there are other changes as well. instead of 16 extra value meals there are 11 and customers will have one. the new cleaner board is tested at several locations but so far there is no word on what items will be eliminated. delta is splitting its air kras crafts into five classes, at the low end of the spectrum is low end economy, for more money you can upgrade to seat selection and dedicated overhead bin space, delta did not say what the price difference will be for the other classes though. many breast cancer patients are getting more radiation than they need.

they found that 87% of women are getting a double course of higher radiation therapy. the longer treatment scheduled does not pose a significant health risk or cause the patient's more. a new treatment is getting the thumbs up from treatment centers. to go to a brain close to remove the clot, some were skeptical, thinking it could run the risk of rupturing the blood vessel or causing bleeding on the brain but they say it's safe if it's done within six hours at the start of a stroke. the growing generations using social media is staggering over the next several years. in today's art of aging reports,

of bright white, south of philadelphia, and that say pretty decent snow shower, and that continues to pop through. and we start in the central part of the region in philadelphia, and the immediate enenvironments there is a lot of dark gray mixed in and that is lighter snow that does nothing more than putting precipitation in the grassy surface. this is a brighter shade of white, woods town and glassboro and hammonton, and we'll give you the wide view down at the shore, and atlantic city the brighter shade of white, and putting down faster accumulation and still i don't think you'll see more of an inch or half inch on grassy surfaces, here in south jersey roads are remaining wet, in the northern suburbs we are not getting additional snow, and maybe a couple of lingering icy patches and temperatures
