good morning, 7:00 a.m., on saturday, december, 13, here's some of the stories we're following on "action news," saying goodbye to the first female firefighter. flooding and mudslides the west coast is reeling from a monster storm that slammed ashore. chris sowers is outside with a look at your accuweather forecast. good morning, chris. >> reporter: good morning, eva, it's chilly out here, temperatures not that bad, but factor in the winds it feels like the 20s. allentown, 32, trenton, 33, wilmington, 34. here's a look at the windchills. feels like 24 in wilmington. 24 in millville. 26 in trenton. 28 degrees in reading. you can thank that pesky nor'easter that slammed through on tuesday, it's still spinning off the coast of maine, the upper right hand part of the

screen. that was tuesday's nor'easter still sitting off the eastern seaboard. it will make it chilly out here today. even though we'll see a decent amount of sunshine. accuweather says the day planner looks all right, sun and clouds shares the skies here. 35 degrees by 9 can mean. 40 by -- 9:00 a.m., 40 by lunchtime, 42 degrees by 3:00 p.m.9:00 a.m., 40 by 6:00 p.m., 38 degrees. it will feel like the 30s all day long, feeling very december-like out here. coming up, the sun returns and it feels milder in the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. we have a couple of days that will close in on 50. we'll have the eagles forecast and looks like a nice, quiet week ahead i'll have that in just a little bit. >> a firefighter was taken to the hospital with minor injuries after battling the blaze in

strawberry mansion. it started on the 2700 block of west lehigh avenue around 5:15 a.m. it took an hour to douse the flames. the fire spread quickly to an adjoining home. residents were evacuated as a precaution. 6 people were displaced by the fire. west lehigh avenue is closed between 26th and 28th streets while firefighters continue to douse any shot spots. happening today another viewing and then the funeral for fallen philadelphia firefighter joyce craig. police escorted craig's family in west oak lane yesterday where the fellow firefighters saluted her family. she leaves behind a 16-year-old son and 16-month-old daughter. >> she managed to balance job and motherhood very well. she balanced it very well. i'm very proud of her. i'm going to miss her. >> she was really concerned

about all people, no matter how cold or, you know, what color or anything like that. she was just a heart-loving person for all people. >> last night hundreds of friends, family and colleague lined up around the block of the funeral home to pay their respects. craig is the first female philadelphia firefighter to die in the line of duty. a massive storm is leaving a huge path a of destruction behind in california. the long coastline in california it even spawned a tornado in southern california. >> reporter: a monster storm took aim to southern california. a wall of mud engulfing homes. phil had just walked out on the front porch. >> mud was flowing around both

sides of the house going into the street. i knew i was in trouble at that point. somehow the good lord put me on that front porch. >> reporter: southern california saw more rain in one day than all of last year. >> reporter: this home video of what meteorologist believe is a tornado. across the west, the monster storm leaving destruction in its path, two people killed in in in oregon hit by falling trees. hundreds of accidents, 200 collisions in 0 los angeles alone. in wine country vined yards looking like rivers.

the action cam was in the somerdale section of the city. the suspect walked up to the 21-year-old man around 1:30 and demanded money. during the confrontation, the suspect shot the man in the leg, the victim is in stable condition, the gunman ran off. also new this morning, two people were hurt when a mercedes smashed into the car in camden. police say the people inside took off. the action cam was on the scene haddon avenue, the crash happened around midnight. two people in the car that the mercedes hit were taken to the hospital, one is in serious condition, the other was treated and released. officers say several people were in the mercedes, they all left the scene. in center city, the fire marshalls office is looking into what sparked a blaze in a three story row style apartment. it happened on the 400 block of south 9th street. it took 15 minutes to bring the fire under control. nobody was hurt in that fire.

a contractor accused one of the biggest home building frauds in pennsylvania history is behind bars. in a bucks county courtroom, john cucci was convicted of stealing $2.5 million from area families. sherry williams said he stole $600,000 from her, money that was supposed to to go toward construction of a second home at the shore. >> i had to higher another builder and it cost 400,000 to build a house. in total i paid a million dollars for a 400,000-dollar home. >> he was convicted of 27 felony charges. he faces up to 135 years behind bars, sentencing is scheduled for next week. hang today, the u.s. senate plans to hold a rare saturday session after a $1.1 trillion spending package was delayed. the house has passed the bill.

to give the senate time, the president signed a 40 hour law to extend the time to prevent a shut down. the president obama will travel to for the dix -- fort dix mcguire lakehurst to thank the troops for their service. atlantic city's former revel hotel, the judge granted a request by revel entertainment to canceled the $110 million sale to brook field asset management. the judge has scheduled an early january hearing to consider revel's request to award the sale to auction's runner-up a florida developer for

$95 million. richard stockton college completed its purchase of the former showboat in atlantic city. it will use the showboat as a second campus and offer a hotel with 479 rooms. they paid 18 millions dollars for the former casino. a crews ship catches fire out of a caribbean port. forcing passengers to return wearing only a bathing suit. eva, coming up in weather another blustery chilly morning, windchills in the 20s, milder changes are ahead. some of us could reach 50 degrees by tuesday, i'll have the details when we come right back.

inside. conditions improve and we'll see more sun today, thinks will get better all weekend. everybody will love you today. >> reporter: i'll tell you what, we're seeing more sun that we had all week. it's a nice looking morning around the delaware valley. temperature-wise it's chilly, we're dealing with numbers in the 30s and, of course, you factor in the winds which we've been dealing with since tuesday, it's blustery. trenton, 33, allentown, 32, feels like 24 in millville. 24 in lancaster and 28 in philadelphia. the counter clockwise swirl up in the right-hand side of the screen. that's the nor'easter that's sitting there and gradually pulling away. today we'll see combination of sun and clouds, west/northwesterly breeze, but it will be milder than yesterday, milder than the day

before, so we're slowly pulling out of it. it will be chilly in the mountains, windchills in the 20s. good skiing weather. 10:00 a.m., 30 degrees, 2:00 p.m., 34. in the immediate delaware valley temperatures top out in the 40s, expect sunshine and it's better than how we started out last weekend with all the rain. the question is will it stay this way, sunny and quiet and fairly nice as we round out the weekend, i'll have the answer when i step back inside in just a little bit. >> five people are homeless after a fire in their delaware county home. it happened on north 9th street in darby borough this morning. flames broke out at 4:50 a.m. the fire went to two-alarms. it took firefighters 45 minutes to get the blaze under control. the fire leveled one home an

badly damaged another. there are no reports of injuries. the red cross is finding temporary shelter for those displaced residents. it will be a final farewell today for a fallen hero. funeral services will begin later this morning for joys craig. she also the first female firefighter to die in the line of duty in philadelphia history. she died while battling a blaze in philadelphia's west oak lane section on tuesday. family, friends and colleagues are gathering from all over to say goodbye to craig, a second viewing is set to begin in less than a half-hour. funeral services following at 10:00 a.m. annie mccormick was there for last night's viewing and filed this report. >> reporter: a police escort brought fallen firefighter joyce craig family members to the bachelor brothers funeral home in west oak lane. craig leaves behind a 16-year-old son and 16-month-old daughter.

>> she managed to balance job and motherhood very well. she balanced it very well. i'm very proud of her, i'm going to miss her. >> reporter: hundreds of friends, family and colleagues wrapped around the block waiting to pay their respects. they spoke about two joyce craigs, the devoted mother and fearless firefighter. >> working lady loved her job, i used to admire and i respected her, a female firefighter? >> she was concerned about all people, no matter how old or, you know what color or anything like that. she was just a heart-loving person of all people. >> reporter: the decorated veteran of 11 years worked her way up the ranks to her 4th and final station engine 64 in lawncrest. the night of the fateful fire where she lost her life she was working voluntary overtime.

38-year-old woman after she stepped off a bus on thursday night at 41st and pine. police are trying to determine if the suspect is the same man who groped two drexel students that day and robbed and assaulted another student on monday. his bail has been set at $150,000. new this morning, a handy capped woman was killed when she lost control of her car on roosevelt boulevard. the car smashed into a tree and burst into flames near north 5th street and hunting park at 2:30. several people stopped to try to to help rescue the woman. no word on what caused her to lose control of the vehicle. new this morning, a man trying to outrun police crashes his car in northeast philadelphia. the action cam was was at the scene residential and haldeman avenue. the man in his 30s was trapped in the car.

medics freed him and took him to the hospital where's in critical condition. police have not said why they were pursuing the man. several children were hurt in a crash on the schuylkill expressway that left two cars overturned. it happened last night in the eastbound lanes of blue route near west conshohocken. five cars were involved in the accident. 3 kids were rushed to children's hospital philadelphia with non-life threatening injuries. a close employee of m.knight shyamalan is accused of stealing from the director. selma codey was to handle his home in delaware county. she made $15,000 of personal purchases on the company credit card while on the job. she faces up to 7 years in prison. a federal judge will not delay a lawsuit brought by actor tracey morgan. he was severely injured when a

walmart truck slammed into his vehicle on the turnpike. the driver wanted to delay the case until his criminal case is resolved. morgan's attorney argued that walmart was using that as an excuse in order to not disclose safety practices. a news crew caught an officer beating a man with a night stick. he was thereon to the ground and swinging his baton. others ran over and said a news crew was recording him. the officer joins 15 buffalo police officers suspended charged or convicted 2012. happening today, thousands of people are expected to march on washington to protest police brutality. admonish strairts were calling

for congressional hearings into the death of michael brown and eric garner at the hands of police. it was that topic that sparked this protest in center city yesterday. chopper 6 was overhead as demonstrators walked around city hall and down jfk boulevard. traffic in center city was gridlocked for about an hour. several dozen took part. dozens of protesters march on city hall in saint louis missouri. they raised their objections to police dressed in white blacking the entrance of the buildings. they call for a special prosecutor to investigate the shooting death of michael brown. still ahead on saturday morning, the flyers take precaution as the outbreak of the mumps sweeps the national hockey league. rare tornados rips through parts of los angeles as a massive storm wreaks havoc on

hours. well, of course, continue to update the story for you throughout the morning. 7:42. a monster storm swept across the west coast is blamed for causing a large section of the roof of a supermarket to collapse. employees and customers got out safely. the store will remain closed until repairs are made to the roof. >> reporter: that same system is blamed for spawning a small tornado in los angeles, the man was recording the winds when the twister appeared. the national weather service confirmed an ef-0 touched down. tornados are extremely uncommon in the l.a. area. i.it's like what was the -- >> reporter: it's like what was that movie? the day after tomorrow?

it never happens, that's rare foot footage right there. let's go live on sky 6. we've been dealing with a system on the east coast, as well. the two coast are getting hammered, the center part of the county is nice and quiet. that will shift in our direction, so things will quiet down. there's the view in cape may, temperatures in the 30s, windchills in the 20s. 36 for philadelphia. dewpoint, 23. winds out of the northwest at 12. pressure reading, 30 had not 04 inches. the temperatures where they should. 32 in allentown. philadelphia, 36. you factor in the winds it feels like the low to mid 20s. winds sustained out of the northwest at 12 miles per hour. 16 in wilmington, ten in dover. 14 in the poconos. 8 miles per hour in trenton. although it's not going to be as windy as what we've experienced over the past several days it

will be breezy enough to make it feel chilly at times. the wind will gust anywhere from 10 to 24, 25 miles per hour throughout the day. satellite and radar, there's tuesday's coastal storm beginning to pull away. you can see how the clouds continue to wrap in on the the backside, the huge counter clockwise swirl that was tuesday's nor'easter, as it sits and spins it draws the clouds in here on the western side. it will move this out, by the time we get into sunday. that will allow this to pull in, high pressure means quierlt -- quieter weather. combination of sun and clouds, today, dealing with west northwesterly breeze. tomorrow the high sits over top of us, the winds relax sun and clouds, milder. monday, milder still, as the winds blowing in a clockwise fashion around the high, counter clockwise around the low, the

and police officers prepare for the procession for joyce craig, the fallen firefighter. this is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. this morning, the second viewing or 10:00 a.m., excuse me, the second viewing is expected to begin in ten minutes at 8:00 a.m. you can see the line of people set up for this viewing. it stretches all the way down the street and around the block, we'll update the story throughout the morning and bring you the latest pictures there from the scene. in "healthcheck" this morning, a new study shows super-storm sandy took a toll on people's health. researchers say there were spikes in heart attacks and strokes in the new jersey counties hit hardest by the october 2012 storm. the heart attacks increased 22%. the study said road blocks may have caused delays in treatment and the direction of people's lives may have presented them
