today for moving trin boot to the city fire fight her gave her life in service to the city that she loved. joyce craig was laid to rest today but first her brother and sisters in the department and across the nation, pause todd say good bye. "action news" reporter annie mccormack has the story. >> reporter: casket of joyce craig arrived on top of engine 64 draped with an american flag. today she received a posthumous promotion to lieutenant, and later full honors in a procession to her final resting place. the hundreds came to saturday's funeral, many stayed in the cold to watch the services televised outside >> i'm free. high spirited. gutsy, and last one. >> reporter: inside collogues describe craig who died early tuesday morning while fighting a fire in west oak lane. highly decorated 11 year veteran received citation force heroism and suffered serious injury early in her career. she served at four fire stations and was within of 150 female officers in the

philadelphia fire department. now she's the first philadelphia female fire fighter to die in the line of duty. >> ii was with joy the the first time she got hurt on the job. i was with her the last time. i was mad at god that take. >> craig's family did not want to appear on camera. her brother spoke at the five years old his sister knew her calling. she was a devoted mother of two children a 16 year-old son and a 16 month-old daughter. commissioner derek sawyer made a promise to them today. >> what i want you to know is just as i said earlier, joyce had two families, now you have two families. we are here for you. never forget that. >> reporter: fire fighters from companies across the country paid their respects including wilmington delaware fire chief anthony goode. goode lost his fire to fighting fires when he was just 16 too. he said this to craigs son

this week. >> after all this passes over and you start to get backgrounded again and i will take to you and let you know what is going on. it is a long road. >> reporter: city still plans to honor lieutenant craig with the memorial services, flags remain at half staff across the city for at least 30 days. reporting from west oak lane, ann and mccormack for channel six "action news". across the the nation it was a national the day of protest and bunch of big cities, tens of thousands of people took to the streets voicing their concerns about police brutality and racism. protesters in new york city briefly shut down brooklyn bridge snarling traffic. protesters included family members, of people, killed by police officer throughout the years. 3,000 miles away in oakland, california a similar scene, and a similar message. there though campus police from the university of california/berkley, removed life sized photographs of lynching victims put up on campus. graphic displays including the names of lynching victims and dates of their deaths were posted across campus.

finally to washington d.c. where a march took place from the white house all the way to the capitol. michael brown's family, and eric garner's mother were among those in attendance. brown was killed by a police officer in ferguson, missouri, garner died after being taken to the ground by a new york city police officer. protesters called for new legislation and for justice. that call was echoed during rallies and locations including boston and in new york. in california, the the clean up is underway this weekend after severe rains cause aid whole lot of damage. cruits in camrill o springs needed to work quickly to clear tremendous amount of mud and rock that encased homes after their heavy rains triggered mud slides. it is a struggle to say the least. crews had to dig out an excavator also buried beneath the mud. moving on to weather here and nothing dramatic to report. it was cold outside but milder conditions are heading our way. meteorologist melissa magee is at the big board for first check of the accu weather forecast, melissa. >> it was not a bad start to the day on saturday.

are searching for a fire near will mink ton that ended with 12 people without a place to live. fire broke out a at 2:00 in the morning on the 24 hundred block of ham on place in kirkwood gardens. fire fighters arrived to find heavy flames and smoke inside a single story home. they say there were no working smoke detectors inside but everybody was able to escape among them were eight children and four adults who are being helped out by american red cross. home over in darby, delaware county was destroyed by fire overnight, crews were called to the hundred block of north ninth street before 5:00a m. five people inside escaped unharmed, home next door was also seriously damage.
