>> good afternoon, the big story on "action news," breaking news out of montgomery county at this hour, five people have been found shot ded at three different locations and police believe all the shooting are connected to the same suspect. >> there's no word on the identity of the suspect, but police has said they believe him to be a military veteran. swat teams are surrounding two homes, one in lower sal folder township, the other in pennsberg. the victim was tuned in three communities, the first in an apartment complex in lower salford township off main street and two bodies on west 5th street in landslide daily and two more in souderton. >> we have team coverage.

we begin with david henry, david what's the latest from there. >> reporter: we're live in souderton where the s.w.a.t team was surrounding the house for the past four hours or so. , just a short while ago we got the first indication that things might be coming to a head. we heard what sounded like a percussion bomb. take a listener. that device may have been been what they call a flash bang, s.w.a.t teams use those devices before they go into a house to startle a suspect. you look down the street, some of the vehicles down the corner two blocks from where they played out here this morning. now, we are told that they spotted somebody in the house, and this is what one of the local police chiefs had to say about that. >> do you think it's the suspect or other people injured.

>> reporter: they are not sure, it could be the suspect or someone else. they were not getting a responsibilities from that person, so they are working back words on this trying to get in touch with somebody and make entry to make sure everything is okay. >> reporter: now we can tell you that just a short while ago after the percussion bomb sounded one of our photographs caught activity down the corner where a stretcher came out somebody was put in the ambulance and taken away. we're not sure what has developed, but something is going on. the police are not community communicating with us. the entire neighborhood has been shut down, resident were evacuated from their homes arena arena -- and others were told to stay in place. you can see one of the members of the s.w.a.t team walking

that to you live on the air and 6abc.com. >> reporter: now we go live to annie mccormick in lower salford township where a victim was found. >> reporter: we're waiting to hear from lower salford police, this is where the deadly rampage began, the two little girls who were taken from the apartment were found safe. a neighbor said she heard the chaos and moments afternoon she saw the suspected gunman. according to police the first shooting was reported athesant run apartments. police discovered a woman in the room with four gun shots to the head. i heard the children saying mommy mommy no.

>> reporter: original reports is said to be the father of two daughters and fled from the home with the young girls. >> i heard him say let's go i got to go in the car. i asked if everything was okay and i saw the kids and the kids' father exiting the house. they didn't have any coats on or anything. he said we have to go. she also hurt pretty bad we have to leave. he got in the car and sped off. >> another neighbor described the victim as a caring mother who discussed custody efforts in the past. >> i asked about him, he was in the military, i don't know why he left, but he has issues stemming from that. >> reporter: back out here live, lower salve ford police are holding -- salford police are holding the scene. we're waiting to hear from the

philadelphia are trying to figure out how a traffic stop led to a deadly shooting new york g this morning. officers ended up killing a driver after they say he reached for a gun. vernon odem is live on frankford avenue mayfair where this all unfolded. >> reporter: police department's internal affairs bureau suspect investigating a shooting death of a 26-year-old motorist who died at the hands of a police officer during a traffic stop. it happened on frankford avenue before 3:00 a.m. police say the incident occurred around 2:45 in the 6700 block of frankford avenue. they also this dodge charger with a florida tag was driving without headlights and pulled over by police. police say they saw a handgun in the area around the center console. police say the man got out of the car on their orderers a struggle ensued the man went back to the car they believe to get the gun when one of the cops

fired once hitting the man in the head. >> it started with a traffic stop and the officer involved in a struggle end heed up is a shooting with the suspect. there was a gun recovered from the vehicle. >> the suspect was shot in the head by the discharging officer. i must point out we do have a gun that was actually found in the suspect's car. >> reporter: police recovered the gun at the scene where the suspect was pronounced dead. the gun is 22 caliber that contain 8 live rounds. the 26-year-old suspect was twice arrested on attempted murder charges and weapons violations. they have not released name, but he lives in north philadelphia. i have just spoken with the family of thed, they

>> now to breaking news we're live from chopper 6hd over souderton in montgomery county. we've been following the latest developments in a killing spree that has unfolded in the county. at this location two people were found dead. the s.w.a.t team has been on the scene throughout the morning. they believe the gunman in the series of killings may be barricaded inside a home. teams on the scene did hear a loud boom a short time ago. david henry reported there maybe indications an on going standoff may be coming to an end smed this -- this is one of the three locations in the county. in lansdale they found two people dead. in lower salford township, a woman was found dead. two girls were taken from the home, but found safe a short distance away. we're following the killing

spree in montgomery county, a number of locations, we've been waiting throughout the morning for a news conference from authorities, if we get that we'll bring it on air and online where you can find all the latest developments only the story at 6abc.com. >> overseas now we're following a developing story from sydney, australia. the hostage situation at a downtown cafe has couple to a dramatic end 16 hours after it starred. a short time ago several captives fled the building running with their hands up before heavily armed police moved in. we know some of the hostage also were injured. medic also rushed two people out on stretchers. police confirmed the operation was over and would not release any details built fate of the gunman. the suspect we're told is 50-year-old native of iran identified as man haron monis said to be a muslim cleric.

he forced the hostage also to hold a black flag exclaiming the islamic declaration of faith. president obama is coming to new jersey today to thank men and women for serving our county. the president will travel to adjacent base mcguire and for the -- fort dix lakehurst. new jersey governor chris christie will expected to join the president at the base. we'll have coverage later today on "action news" at 4:00.
