topics of conversation in this country, the philadelphia police wanted to make sure everyone is well aware of what happened yoed in the 2800 block of north 20th street in north philadelphia. a case of police restraint. live at the 39th district tonight, "action news" reporter, sara bloomquist. >> reporter: jim, today officer collin burg spoke with us about what happened yesterday. when he came face-to-face with a man armed with a military style weapon. the veteran of the philadelphia police force, tapped into his training and never fired his weapon and defused the situation before anyone got hurt. >> chopper 6 hd was over the 2800 block of 20th street just before 2:00 and police tape was up and even from high above. we can see this a.r. 15, the military style rifle in the middle of the street. collin burg of the 39dth

district came face-to-face with that weapon and he was on patrol alone. >> heard 15 gunshots in rapid fire succession. >> the suspect, eric barnes fired the weapon into the air and he had already fired off 30 rounds and had a dozen more ready. officer burg approached with his weapon drawn. >> announced police drop the weapon, the second time i yelled it he was looking over his right shoulder, and i was within 8 to 10 feet of him, i guess he realized me coming out of nowhere i had the drop on him and he dropped the weapon. >> its an example of the remarkable restrants on the part of the officer. he is getting high praise from the top brass for neutralizing

it's hard. >> what kind of difference does that make? >> to have presents, we weren't sure if we could afford to get them any. >> get hugs and cries and cards and people drop off cookies. >> the burlington toys for tots program is one of the most successful in the country, they expect to hand out 45,000 toys to children in the area. >> i haven't done any shopping yet, all we are doing it driving around and picking up toys. >> bill wilson says the toys for tots program is a labor of love and knowing that over 15,000 kids in the area will have a merry christmas make its all worthwhile. >> you get to see the people's faces that come shop here and that is worth all the problems and things we go through, you look at the face and know are you helping them out. >> i'm nora muchanic, channel 6 "action news."

red skins-eagles coming up faster than we know. >> can't wait, this game is so big for the eagles, they cannot afford to lose this one in washington. there is scenario after scenario, it goes on and on how the eagles can make the playoffs but the birds are trying to block all of that out and worry about what they can control, beating the red skins, they are trying to avoid coming up short against rg 3, and they won't take this game for granted. the red skins have only 3 wins but they are focused on beating this team and if not they are in big trouble. >> we better be ready to play, that tells you their mind set coming into the game, they are coming to prove a point and i think if we show up sitting on our hands we might get punched in the face. we have to be able to have that same intensity if not more
