tradition is any guide tomorrow should be the busiest shopping day of the year. this is the way it looked today at toys r us in king of prussia. shoppers are checking off their lists for the younger set. and kohl's department store in havertown launched a 100 hour marathon this morning. it will be opened 24 hours a day until 6:00 p.m. christmas eve. "action news" reporter john rawlins is live on 202 in king of prussia where gas prices seem to be falling by the hour. but first let's get the latest on the weekend forecast from accuweather and meteorologist melissa magee. melissa is at the big cordboard. >> jim it is seasonably cold across much of the delaware and lehigh valleys. no issues if you're stepping out this evening. 39 in philadelphia at this hour. trenton 32. 25 in the poconos. 35 in reading along the coast and sea isle city 38 degrees. beach haven also in the upper 30's. the winds are coming in out of the northwest sustained from 8 miles an hour down the shore to about 16 miles an hour inlands so it does make it

feel a touch colder. feel like 28 in the city. 22 at the wind chill number in the poconos. feels like 1 degree above the freezing mark in beach haven and at 33. here's satellite 6 along with action radar. we've got a part to mostly clear sky across the midatlantic region. high pressure is over the northern great lakes and the winds around that high are clockwise so it helps to suppress all of this moisture you see to the south well away from our region and this will skirt off to our south and east for the rest of tonight and as we head into our weekend as well. so if you're stepping out on the town we've got you covered. 7:00 p.m. this evening 35 degrees. it's mostly clear. same thing at 8 o'clock with that temperature dipping down to 34. 33 at 9 o'clock this evening and 32 once we get into 10 o'clock tonight. so the shoppers forecast, if you're doing that over the weekend or any outdoor activities we've got you covered. saturday limited sunshine, it's chilly and it's calm with a temperature of 39 degrees and as we get into sunday, partly sunny and dry with a high temperature then of 42. a lot to talk about as we get into the weekend. the winter solstice begins and we also are tracking the

potential of some wet weather as we get into next week, the day before christmas. those details coming up with the accuweather forecast. jim. >> thank you melissa. let's switch thrive route 202 in king of prussia and "action news" reporter john rawlins. john war what do our plunging gas prices mean to holiday travelers other than the likelihood there will be more of them. >> reporter: there's going to be more of them, something like 90 million on the road nationally, a million in the five county area here taking off sometime during that 10, 12 day period around christmas and new year's. these are remarkable times, jim, particularly for those of us who remember the oil shocks of the 70's. gas prices have been on a slide for months. gas pricing 60 to 70 cents less per gallon than what we were paying a year ago. >> just filled up. >> reporter: how much? >> $43 and a penny. >> reporter: how does that compare? >> pretty good. you know what, usually i'm 50 or above. >> reporter: okay. >> so, that's not bad. >> reporter: a lot of drivers saying not bad about

the price of gas. it can mean a savings of seven, nine, even $15 a fillup compared to last christmas. >> gives me a more positive outlook. i'm spending less money so it gives me a little more of a savings right now. >> you feel more comfortable having extra money in your possibility it has enabled me to travel more to see my grand kids, to go shopping and every month my bill has been dropping and it gives me more money to spend on my grand kids. >> reporter: aaa saying an overall improving economy and the dropping gas fueling a forecast for a record number of travelers this holiday season. motorists are paying the lowest prices at the pump since 2009. so, that is definitely filling stockings with extra disposable income. >> reporter: we learned today lower prices good news for those with red sleighs and really big travel plans. >> the lower the price of gas means it's much easier for the sleigh. >> and you can get around everywhere. >> that's it.

we can get more toys and presents for all the boys and girls. >> reporter: ho ho. $2.67 that's the price for a gallon of gas right now. it was $2.69 this morning when we got here so while prices are not falling maybe by hour they are certainly falling every day or so it seems and has for the last several months. live in king of prussia, john rawlins, channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you, john. you may find that not everybody has goodwill towards men this weekend. police in cherry hill are telling shoppers to beware of pick pockets. "action news" reporter chad pradelli is live at the marketplace at garden state park in cherry hill. chad, a number of shoppers have already been victimized. >> reporter: yes, jim, cherry hill police say there have been eight cases over the past month or so and three of those occurred right here at the marketplace of garden state park. they're the men and women who prey on holiday shoppers. they like to distract and swipe or simply look for an

unattended purse. >> it's awful. it's just scary. i mean, it's sad the world we live in now. >> it's terrible. they shouldn't do that, they really shouldn't. >> reporter: but they do. cherry hill police say this duo stole a wallet from panera bread and racked up more than $14,000 in charges. they spend fast. this woman allegedly snatched a wallet from wegmans then went next door to best buy and charged away. an investigators say this couple stole credit cards at the christmas tree shops. >> almost all of our victims haven't females and it's involved a handbag. >> reporter: police say shoppers need to pay attention, keep purses zipped up and attached to your body at all times and never leave unattended. do you ever worry about getting your credit cards or anything stolen. >> all the time. i'm very paranoid about it. i really am. every time somebody bumps my pocketbook i panic. others like janet stevens go a step further and in a message to pick pockets beware. >> i'm going to take my credit

card and put it in my pocket and not my purse. >> reporter: they got to get in your pocket. >> uh-huh. they ain't going to get that. they going to get a knock down, a beat down. >> reporter: and don't forget your vehicles because these criminals canvas the parking lots so put the gifts when you're shopping in the trunk if you can and keep the number of gifts in your car to a minimum. live in cherry hill are, chad pradelli, channel6 "action news". jim. >> thank you clad. a bucks county man charged in connection way misguided search for killer bradley stone. luke sander ling is accused of calling in a hoax carjacking attempt by mass murder suspect brad stone, a suspect at the time. a massive search ensued for hours all for naught. authorities now believe stone was already dead by his own hand in pennsburg montgomery county having killed his former wife and five members of her family early monday morning. sander ling is accused of risking a catastrophe filing a

false report and other offenses. we'll have a full report on the hoax later tonight at 11:00 and online at 6abc.com. police are looking for the burglars behind seven break-ins off the white horse pike in clementon, new jersey within the past 10 days. each time the intruders got in through a side or rear window. investigators think the suspects are stake out homes waiting for people to leave during the day. police tell "action news" they believe the thieves are addicted to heroin and stealing items that can be sold to support their habit. the victim of a hit and run caught on camera in west philadelphia has died. 30-year-old byron scales was taken off life support today, three weeks after he was struck by a volvo station wagon at 59th and market. the father of two was deaf and never heard the car coming. police have recovered the volvo. so far they have not filed charges. sources tell "action news" the vehicle is owned by a woman who also let's her son and

daughter drive the vehicle. friends and family will call attention to the search for shane montgomery this weekend. it has been more than three weeks since the 21-year-old disappeared after leaving kildare's in manayunk. tomorrow a 5k fundraiser will begin at 9:00 a.m. at gold's fit on main street. all donations will support the help find shane montgomery fund. a disturbing message has been discovered scrawled on a wall in west philadelphia. somebody spray painted antipolice graffiti on a building near 49th street and baltimore avenue. we have blurred the image because it is just too graphic to show you. it is not known who did it or specifically why. today we got our first look at plans for the new year's eve celebration on the delaware waterfront. philadelphia mayor michael nutter and camden mayor dana redd announced the details of of -- details at philadelphia city hall. there will be two chances

starting with youth i think is necessary after the last two seasons that the phillies had. >> we caught up with the phillies brass at a local homeless shelter where they were serving a holiday meal. it's the time of year for a fresh start, the organization doing just that. the rollins deal likely just the beginning as the phillies contend none of the veterans are untouchable. how hard is that for you for the man who built this world series team seeing this core being split up. >> i'm a big fantastic it's difficult to do it but you know as a fan and i think the fans out there know that it's time to move on. >> reporter: it's going to be strange seeing someone else standing at short stop on opening day. freddie galvez will get the first shot. what's j. roll's next stop after los angeles? sandberg says it could be cooperstown. is he in the hall of fame. >> for me if he continues playing the right way and he was a leader on the team, a spark plug at the top of the order and the way he played short stop last year still one of the best in the national league.

festive mood. checking out highlights. chilly as we get into the start of our weekend on saturday and it will be officially turning winter as well. talk about the chill that's in the air as we get into the weekend and into the afternoon tomorrow. temperatures along the 95 corridor will be in the upper 30's really most locations tomorrow afternoon around 2:30 will be sitting in the 30's. officially marking the beginning of our winter season as we get into sunday with the winter solstice. around 6:03 in the evening when the sun's direct rays are right over the tropic of capricorn so we have some very short days on the way but then the will nights will be longer. first day of winter sunday evening. temps outside this evening 39 in the city, twenty five in the poconos, 32 in trenton, 38 in sea isle city. dover coming in at 36. 33 in lancaster. here's the setup for you as we get into the start of our weekend on saturday. it's cold and calm, clouds and some sunshine with high pressure situated to the north our region. with a northerly wind on the

way it's seasonably cool across the area with the high temperature in the city coming in at 39 degrees. this high scoots farther to the east on sunday. partly sunny with those light winds with high temperature by then and at 42 so not bad. keep in mind average for this time of year is about 43 degrees. we'll fast forward into next week because we'll be tracking a system coming in from the south and working its way north and eastward but it cuts up to the west as we get into christmas eve and talk about the winds with this storm system on the way. there will be gusting out of a southerly direction up to 40 miles per hour so good soaking rain on the way as we get into christmas eve. it's not going to be white but it's definitely going to be wet so something to keep in mind if you're doing some traveling getting to your destination and also doing some last minute shopping as well. on the backside of this we do think some snow will set up across the great lakes and down through the midwest. once we get into christmas day things should start to clear out for our region. the call from accuweather partly cloudy, seasonably cold dropping down 229 in the city,

24 in the suburbs with in north to northwesterly wind. can chilly tomorrow, limited sunshine, high temperature up to 39 but we're dry. on sunday clouds and sunshine, high temperature coming in at 42 degrees with the beginning of the winter solstice so shortest day longest night on sunday. monday 46 degrees, afternoon and evening rain will start to develop. on tuesday it's mild, up to 53 but that drizzle holds off and then wednesday rainy and wet with a high temperature of 58 on christmas eve. as we get into christmas day we're going to be dry with a high temperature of 46. it's wind whipped by then. on friday for kwanzaa seasonably cool with a high temperature then of 45. overall jim no complaints if you're out this weekend. >> thank you melissa. a holiday concert by some very talented youngsters in chester county. >> ♪ these are students from the phoenixville kindergarten center and among the members of the class a very special singer, her name is megan, she
