claymont, delaware, apartment building is gone wiped away by an inferno overnight. firefighters scrambled to get everyone out alive, their homes and everything they own gone in the heart of the holiday season. katherine scott is live near the ruins, the harbor house apartments on harbor drive, katherine. >> reporter: and eva, we did just receive welcomes that one person has died in the overnight fire at least one person was taken to the hospital, but we don't know the extent of their

injuries, you can see firefighters remain on the scene here in claymont after a long night balloting this blaze. there are 24 -- battling this blaze. there are 24 apartments affected in the complex. you can see that the flames were just whipping throt homes overnight. -- through the homes overnight. firefighters rescued a person from their apartment. the fire started at 2:30 a.m. at the harbor house apartment complex on harbor drive in claymont. when firefighters got here they were met with heavy flames shooting from the roof of the three story apartment buildings. firefighters attacked the blaze and worked to get the flames under control. the cause is under investigation. at this point, again we know there are 24 units, but there's no word on how many people have been displaced in the fire. we did receive word that one person has died and at least one person is injured this morning, the fire marshal is on scene as

same bar. the action cam was outside the bar at cottman and cottage street. a man got into a domestic dispute and told to leave the bar. after he left, the bar door was locked. police say the man returned and fired several shots into the bar door and a bullet hit a man in the arm. else in the hospital. the gunman ran off. when police arrived, a second gunman approached the bar who was upset that his daughter was inside, he opened fire, police arrested him. >> i think the male was intoxicated, but still you got a guy coming here with police lights on and lots police cars at this location and a male comes in with two guns one in his hand and fired a shot. obviously it could have hit one of us or one of the witnesses. >> as you heard the officer say, the man had two guns on him. police do not know the identity

of the other man. president obama condemned the assassination of two new york city police officers, both married, one a newlywed, the other a father leaving behind a 1-year-old boy. the officers were gunned down by a man upset over the death of eric garner. u.s. attorney general said eric holder said the act was an unspeakable act. we have more from our sister station in new york. >> reporter: this was madness on the streets of new york, two police officers shot and killed always they sat in their cruiser eating lunch. rafael ramos was a father and hulls.he wenjian liu was a newl. standing tall at attention, a

crisp and final salute always the bodies of two police officers were driven away. two of their own, police officer rafael ramos, police officer wenjian liu two good young men who served their city proudly and gunned down in cold blood. >> they were on the streets of the city and worked to keep it safe every day and every night. >> it was chaos moments after the shooting, police blanketing the scene and trying to figure out on what happened on what had been a quiet saturday afternoon that turned to madness. >> i heard shooting. and then when i got here somebody was dead, police got shot. >> reporter: two police officers were shot and killed as they sat in the police vehicle eating lunch near the corner of thompson avenue and myrtle avenue. there was no confrontation, no words exchanged. police say 28 ismaaiyl brinsley shot two officers he had never met. >> clear this was an as nation

of these -- assassination that these officers were shot execution style a despicable act that goes at the heart of our society and democracy. >> reporter: ismaaiyl brinsley ran to a nearby subway station and killed himself on the platform of the g train. earlier in the day he put this photo on instagram with a post that read i'm putting wings on pigs, they take one of our ours, they take two of theirs, with the hash tag shoot police. the weapon discovered at the shooting was found at the scene. >> we have never and never forget that mission well never forget the two young men who lost their lives today. >> reporter: police are investigating trying to figure

out what caused all this, what led to all this, so far at least there doesn't seem to be a rational explanation. for channel 6 "action news" i'm jim dolan. >> reverend al sharpton, and the family of eric garner is not connected. the family of michael brown offered this statement. we reject any kind of violence directed toward members of law enforcement. it cannot be tolerated. we must work together to bring peace to the communities. >> the new york police department called the tragedy a horrible act of terror that solves nothing. kenneth moten has more from the philadelphia police department and the nypd ahead in the next half-hour. we're gathering more on the shootings of the officers in new york, a report is ahead on "g.m.a." after this news cast. >> it is up, it is good, five

>> we are following breaking news from claymont, delaware, at least one person is confirmed dead in a huge fire at the harbor house apartment complex on harbor drive. this is video from when the blaze hit its peak around 3:00. the fire is bursting out of the windows, katherine scott will have a live report in our next half-hour. changing gears here, let's get a check of the weather. it felt a little warmer than yesterday, i felt like. >> reporter: it's where we were yesterday. >> maybe wishful thinking.

[laughter]. >> reporter: those of you -- this is a view of the philadelphia international airport. it's a chilly morning, temperatures are down in the 20s and 30s across the area. one thing we haven't dealt with over the last couple of days are the gusty winds. that's the good news out there this morning. once again, winds are calm. officially at the airport, we're sitting at 5 miles per hour out of the northwest. that gives us a windchill of 30. there's not too much difference there. dewpoint, 22. pressure 30.32 and that is rising. trenton, 29. poconos, 24. millville, 29 degrees. storm tracker 6 live double scan showing here's a far western suburbs through here, reading, allentown, the poconos, you can see a little bit of light snow showers or flurry activity pushing toward the east. northern portion of the lehigh

valley, the poconos will pick up snow showers in the next hour or two, that's about it. all of that is racing off to the east. should be getting into places like allentown and the poconos in the next 25 or 30 minutes. satellite and radar, locked in pretty good, just a few peeks of sun. today we'll see a gradual increase in sun. as you look at the west, you can see the holes in the clouds, that's the drier air pushing east. the idea of the day the flavor of the day, starting out with clouds, gradual increase in sun as the day progresses and temperatures will be slightly milder than where they were yesterday. future tracker 6, i'll let this run through tuesday, so you can see the progression here, a couple of systems one to the south, another one approaching from the west. the two kind of converge on the delaware valley. you can see tuesday evening all this moisture is building. this is the christmas eve storm we'll see a huge area of low pressure here, all this moisture, this slug of moisture pull to the northeast. it will make for salute

>> from our new jersey newsrom a ten-year-old boy an elderly woman were hurt in a fire in south jersey in salem last night. smoke an flames were pouring from the second floor when they arrived. the boy and woman are being treated in the hospital for smoke inhalation. the fire was started by accident, nothing supported.

harbor drive, katherine. >> and eva, we're being told one person has died, at least one person has been injured and they are at the hospital. you can see this still remains a very active scene in claymont always firefighters continue to do their work. we are told the fire is still smoldering. they are trying to put out the hot spots. the fire caused a lot of damage. let's go to the video from earlier and you can see how heavy and widespread the flames are. it's the harbor house apartments on harbor drive in claymont. firefighters rescued one person from their apartment. the action cam captured a resident being helped down a ladder from the second floor. the fire started around 2:30 a.m. when fire crews arrived they were met with heavy flames. this is three-story building, 12 units in each buildings. flames were pouring out of the windows and shooting from the roof. the red cross is on the scene offering assistance. we're trying to firm up how many people were displaced.

police officers. the tension and rhetoric has been increasing for months, demonstrators upset over the death of eric garner on statten island and ferguson teen michael brown at the hands of police. the shooting of nypd officers have officers scouring over antipolice statements made on social media by ismaaiyl brinsley one displayed with references to the hash tag shoot the police and references made to garner and brown. >> there's a strong antipolice and anticriminal justice system and the unfortunately aspect is that some people get caught up in this and go in this directions they should not. >> reporter: this is a a horribe act of terror and murdering a police officer is not the way to solve anything.

charge also. people gathered in montgomery to remember the 6 family members killed in exemia recent murder spree, mourners reflected by the candle light in lower sal folder. that's where bradley stone killed his ex-wife nicole hill his mother and grandmother and three members of her sister's family were murdered at other locations. hill's nephew anthony slick was the only survivor. brad stone was found dead tuesday in pens bug be officials say stone and hill were in the middle of a custody dispute. in new castle county, investigators are trying to figure out what sparked a massive blaze. a fire engulfed this home in mill creek before 6:00. you can see the flames spread to one of the vehicles parked outside on the driveway. we are told the people inside escaped unharmed. one firefighter was treated on the scene for a minor injury. there's still much more to come on "action news," we're staying on top of breaking news,

"action news" was there as firefighters battle the the blaze. homes, everything the people own is gone right here in the heart of the holiday season. katherine scott is live near the ruins the harbor house apartments on harbor drive, katherine. that's right, eva, we did talk to the fire chief. we have updated information, he did confirm that one person has died and one person was taken to the hospital to be evaluated, christiana hospital is where the person is right now. we don't know the extent of the injuries. fire crews remain on the scene. the fire is smoldering and the fire investigation is underway here. let's go to the video from earlier where you can see the blaze tearing through the homes overnights these are fierce intense flames. you can see firefighters rescuing a person from their apartment. that was the person who have taken to the hospital.
