apartment building gone wiped away by an inferno overnight. "action news" was there as firefighters battle the the blaze. homes, everything the people own is gone right here in the heart of the holiday season. katherine scott is live near the ruins the harbor house apartments on harbor drive, katherine. that's right, eva, we did talk to the fire chief. we have updated information, he did confirm that one person has died and one person was taken to the hospital to be evaluated, christiana hospital is where the person is right now. we don't know the extent of the injuries. fire crews remain on the scene. the fire is smoldering and the fire investigation is underway here. let's go to the video from earlier where you can see the blaze tearing through the homes overnights these are fierce intense flames. you can see firefighters rescuing a person from their apartment. that was the person who have taken to the hospital. the fire started around

2:30 a.m. at the harbor house apartment complex on harbor drive in claymont. the fire chief said the fire started in one apartment and spread to the attic and spread to another building in the apartment complex. 17 parmts -- apartments were damaged in all of this. fire crews got on scene the fire was advance and flames were shooting from the roof of the 3 story building. they worked to get the fierce claims under control. there are structural i and collapses inside, no firefighters were injured in all this. again, one person confirmed dead, one person taken to the hospital. i did speak to a resident he said he and his wife and 10-month-old son had to rush out amid the smoke and flames and this all happened days before christmas. residents are devastated. they are not sure when they will get back into their apartments.

valley once again, just like yesterday. although, this morning if you look toward the center of the screen, where allentown sits, you notice a different shade of white. you can see the cluster pushing through the far person suburbs and the southern portions of the lehigh valley. a lot of it is not reaching the ground. if you live north and west of the city. you can see a couple of flakes within the next 45 minutes or so, don't be alarmed, it's a quick-passing flurry or snow showers. passing flurries giving way to fine this afternoon. that will allow the temperatures to climb above where we topped out yesterday. yesterday we were at 35. today we're at 42. 9:00 a.m., 33. noon, 34. 3:00 p.m., 42 and 6:00 p.m. back down to 37 degrees, sun sets at 4:39 this afternoon. all right, looking ahead, this is the big story here, the

christmas eve storm i have the latest information, two storm systems colliding across upstate new york means one big mess for us. fortunately the temperatures will be mild, we're not looking at crippling delays with the storm rather a lot of rain and wind. that will impact the travel commute here. when i step back inside i'll talk about that and i'll have the mild numbers in the seven-day forecast. eva. >> thanks, chris. we have developing news out of the mayfair section of philadelphia. two gunman fired shots at the same bar. the action cam was outside the bar on cottman avenue and cottage street. a dplan got involved in a -- man got involved in a domestic dispute and told to leave the bar. after he left the bar door was locked. the man returned and fired several shots into the bar door. the bullet hit a man in the arm he is in the hospital. the gunman ran off. when police arrived a second gunman approached the bar who

was upset that his daughter was inside, he opened fire, police arrested him. >> i think the male was intoxicated, but still you got a guy coming here with police lights on and lots of police cars at this location and the male comes in there with two guns one in his hand and fires a shot it could have could have hs or one of the witnesses to the previous shooting. >> reporter: that man had two guns on him. the first gunman remains on loose, police have not said if they know the identity of that man. overnight president obama condemned what is being called the assassination of two new york city police officers. both were married, one a newlywed, the other a father, leaving behind a 1-year-old. the officer was gun downed apparently upset over the death of eric garner. eric holder saying the act was an unspeakable act, we get more

police blanketing the scene trying to figure out what happened on a quiet saturday afternoon that turned suddenly to mad ntz. >> i heard -- madness. >> i heard shooting, i heard shooting. >> two police officers were shot and killed as they sat eating lunch in the police cruiser. there were no confrontation, no words exchanged, 32-year-old ismaaiyl brinsley shot two police officers he never met. >> these officers were shot execution style, particularly despicable act which goes at the very heart of our society and democracy. >> reporter: ismaaiyl brinsley ran to a nearby subway station after the shooting and killed himself on the platform. g train. earlier in the day he put this photo on instagram with a post

>> we are following breaking news from claymont, delaware, at least one person is confirmed dead in a huge fire at the harbor house apartment complex on harbor drive. this is the video of the blaze when it hit its peak at 3:00 a.m. when firefighters arrived they found towering flames spitting out of the roof. katherine scott will have a live report in the next half-hour and update from the scene. 7:14. let's get a check of the weather, this is not the weather we expected for christmas. >> reporter: nor do we want it this way. temperatures in the 60s, break out the bermuda shorts for christmas eve. there's the view in cape may,

yesterday it was cold. highs topped out in the mid 30s. today the clouds give way to sun, that will allow the temperatures to get back up into the 40s, close to where we should be for this time of the year. clouds are on the increase overnight tonight, however, we get into monday, monday is a cloudy day, this particular model has us rain free, although i think you'll see more in the way of activity, especially south and west as we get into the afternoon hours, 4:00, 5, expect a little bit of patchy drizzle in the area, maybe a couple of showers, monday night and tuesday we have a huge system approaching from the southwest, the clouds lower and thicken, a couple of scattered showers are expected throughout the day on tuesday. wednesday is when the big event arrives, as we go wider i'll show it to you, a storm system comes in across the great great lakes and high plains.

>> from the new jersey newsroom a ten-year-old boy and elderly woman was hurt in a south jersey fire, it happened on the south front street in salem. smoke and flames were pouring from two second floor windows when they arrived. they were able to get the fire under control in ten minutes. the boy and mother were treated for smoke. investigators say the fire parentally started by --

apparently started by accident, nothing suspicious. the republican party is calling upon supporters to buy tickets to the interview. the republican party leader wrote in a letter that's concerned that a foreign power can getaway dictating what movies american can watch. he said he'll ask republican supporters to buy ticket to the movie produced by sony to quote we're with he cannot be bullied into giving up our freedom. mohammed ali is being treated for a mild case of pneumonia. he entered the hospital yesterday, but the location was not given at the request of his family. the 72-year-old is in stable condition and should have a short stay at the hospital.

heartbreaking scene breaking out in claymont, delaware. flames devoured an apartment building. "action news" reporter, katherine scott is live near the ruins, the harbor house apartments on harbor drive, katherine. >> reporter: eva, one person has died, a 72-year-old man remains in the hospital in serious condition after a fire this morning. you can see fire crews remain on the scene. there are spots that are smoldering and the investigation into how this all began is underway. let's go to the video from earlier where you could see the fire tearing through these homes overnight. the action cam was there as firefighters rescued the 72-year-old man from his apartment. he was treated on the scene by paramedics for smoke and high carbon monoxide lerchls. levels. else in serious condition. -- he is in serious condition. the fire chief said the fire

started in a third floor apartment and spread to the attic and the building next-door. 17 fire crews were on scene him there were heavy flames on the third floor and flames shooting through the roof. firefighters attacked the blaze and worked to get the flames under control. the red cross is here and providing assistance to ten families, but that numbers may grow. i spoke to a man who escaped with his wife and baby, he said the smoke alarm woke him up. he is still in shock. >> for christmas, i am looking from here, my apartment is burning, everything is burning, my tears came out, it is really tough. >> reporter: and back here live on the scene in claymont, the delaware state fire marshal remains on the scene as the calls is under investigation, we're being told there was a collapse in the building where the fire start the, but no

of the year. from tomorrow on daylight hours start increasing. it will make some of you feel much better, although we're moving into the coldest months of the year. when i step back inside i'll have more on christmas eve and christmas day forecast. two men were shot at powell street, the victims were airlifted to local hospitals and there's no word on their conditions or what led up to the shootings. the gunman who ambushed and killed two new york city police officers announced online he was planning to shoot officers. the shooting happened in brooklyn yesterday afternoon. investigators say a man named ismaaiyl brinsley walked up to a passenger window of a marked patrol car and opened fire. two officers were hit in the head, identified as rafael ramos and wenjian liu. earlier in the day, investigators say ismaaiyl brinsley issued a warning about the attack on social media citing revenge for police

killings of black men. he wrote, they take one of ours, let's take two of theirs. >> today two of new york's finest were shot and killed with with no warning, no provocation, they were quite simply assassinated, targeted for their uniform and for the responsibility they embraced to keep the people of this city safe. >> ismaaiyl brinsley then took off running into a nearby subway station where he shot himself. else accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend in baltimore hours before the ambush in brooklyn. the shooting of the officers is being felt in philadelphia. kenneth moten picks up that part of the our coverage. >> reporter: philadelphia police are even more on alert after the ambush killings of two new york city police officers. the tensions and the rhetoric

has been increasing for months by protesters. the shootings of nypd officers wenjian liu and rafael ramos have investigators scouring over antipolice statements allegedly made on social media by the suspect, ismaaiyl brinsley. one displayed a weapon with the hash tag shoot the police and references to garner and brown. >> let's face it there's been 234089 just in new york, but throughout the county. there's been a strong antipolice and anticriminal justice system and unfortunately aspect is that people get caught up in these and go in this directions they should not. >> reporter: philadelphia police released a statement saying this is a horrible act of terror and murdering a police officer is not the way to solve anything in fact the destroyed the lives of two families those of the officers that have nothing to do

with the events taking place across the county. >> representative of those who peacefully protesting with regard to issues of police brutality. this is unacceptable behavior of anybody to go own shoot innocent police officers. >> reporter: back at king of prussia the protest lasted about an hour, it was peaceful and upper merion police say there were no arrests. reporting in king of prussia kenneth moten channel 6 "action news." >> protesters crowd the huge mall of america in bloomington, minnesota. ment protesters chanted black lives matter. it was a police brutality protest that caused the mall to be shut down on one of the busiest shopping day of the year. 3,000 people were thought to have taken part in the protest. 25 were arrest mainly on trespass charges. people gathered in montgomery county to remember the 6 family members killed in a

the clouds will quickly fill in as we get into the overnight hours and first thing tomorrow morning we're looking at mainly clawd skies once again -- cloudy skies once again. the model has most of the delaware valley dry, but what you'll see is patching drizzle develop in the southwestern suburbs and that will advance twrard -- toward the north monday night. everybody will get into the act on tuesday. it's not looking like a washout, but well have patching drizzle and passing showers. the model has us mainly welt for just about everybody and same thing tomorrow afternoon. this guy is a potent upper level piece of energy that cuts across the high plains into the great lakes and it draws in all this moisture out of the gulf. we'll see an area of low pressure develop right here. this guy and this to the south come together across upstate new york, once this takes place

that's when the winds whip around we'll see gusts as high as 40 to 50 miles per hour. all this moisture pulls north into the mid atlantic and the northeast. rainy and windy as the storms collide across upstate new york. the positive news it's not a raging snowstorm, but the bad news it is on christmas eve it will create delays in parts of the area. if you're traveling tuesday and wednesday look for a slow go. 60 degrees, rainy and windy with gusts as high as 40 miles per hour. christmas day, milder, sunshine expected, windy, 40 miles per hour gusts high of 50. as we getting into christmas eve, the winds are out of the southwest, that's what punches the temperatures up into -- pumps the temperatures up into

>> 7:54 "action news" reporter, katherine scott is live in claymont, delaware, where flames have ripped through the harbor house apartment complex. could the -- katherine. >> reporter: eva one person has died and a man is in serious condition after an early-morning fire. investigator are on scene and trying to determine how the flames spread so quickly. it started at the harbor house apartment complex. firefighters rescued the 72-year-old man, paramedics treated him for smoke inhalation and he has taken to the hospital where he remains. the fire chief said it started in a third floor apartment and spread to the attic and spread to the building next-door.
