live double scan radar you can see the rain across much of the delaware and lehigh valleys. things are starting to fill in once again across areas of south jersey. we'll go in tighter on storm tracker 6 live double scan street level from atlantic city oceanville atlantic city tuckahoe down to sea isle city along the garden state parkway we have moderate pockets of rainfall even into fortescue also pressing into dover. there's another cluster of periods of rain that we're tracking north and west really for center city along that 95 corridor from trenton down to philadelphia, even for chester and wilmington, along route one just to the north of media and to the south of manayunk we are tracking that rainfall. here's the big picture on storm tracker 6 live double scan 3-d. you could see the moisture. we did have some heavy rain earlier today that's lifted to our north and east. showers will continue for the rest of the evening. then there's another batch of moisture off to our west that moves in as we get into the overnight hours. as far as the rainfall we'll check out some of the totals we've seen so far. millville more than an inch

meant another day of delays at philadelphia international airport. john recall lanes is -- rawlins is live. sounds like the airlines are starting to catch up, though. >> reporter: yes, they are. we should make the point it's been a busy day here for the airlines but we should say there's been no long lines. you can look behind me that's the tsa check point. there have been delays inbound and outbound ranging from a few minutes to an hour or so and in a few cases a little longer. certainly weather like this never a friend to aviation. >> more so worried about the weather. i'm not worried about the crowds. little butterflies in the stomach but i'll be all right. >> reporter: today's poor visibility and a ceiling that seemed to swallow up departing aircraft played the major role in today's delays. on a clear day controllers aim for 60 to 80 operators an hour. on this afternoon that number far less. >> right now i think we're handling 32 inbound and outbound flights because of

the bad weather, because of the low ceiling. >> reporter: to handle the lower capacity some inbound flights held on the ground by the faa at their departing airports. >> everything was fine until we got on the airplane and then they told us due to the weather we would be waiting a little while, about 45 minutes but it was about 30 minutes and it wasn't too bad. >> reporter: oddly it helped it was christmas eve. unlike the day before thanksgiving, this is not a big travel day. and the airlines cut back on the number of flights. u.s. airways cut its schedule by 18 percent compared to a normal wednesday. as for those traveling, big plans. this family heading for san francisco. >> friday we're going skiing with them and we're going to celebrate christmas tomorrow. >> and we're going the relax, right, take a much needed break. >> san francisco golden gate bridge . >> yes. >> reporter: not a big travel day today, though there have been delays both coming and going. if you have to leave somewhere, if you're going somewhere tonight or picking

somebody up at the airport check ahead of time to see thousand particular flight is do. live at philadelphia international airport, john recall -- rawlins channel6 "action news." >> anyone driving to christmas dinner got a special treat today especially in new jersey. gas prices down across the country but in the garden state we found them below two dollars for a gallon of regular. one station in lakewood was selling for $1.97. another had gas for $1.95. >> it's great. perfect around the holiday season. >> perfect. saving money for presents and everything. i love it. >> when i saw the price i said wow, $1.95 time to go on a road tripped, unplanned one, too, gases prices so low. >> gas in new jersey is down nine cents in the last week, in philadelphia down 10 cents and nationally it's an even bigger drop. the avenue have much about 16 cents over the last week. >> time to plan that road

trip. holiday cheer being felt all day today at one popular south philadelphia bakery. >> ♪ favorite holiday tune performed while people stood in line here at termini brothers bakery on south eighth street. many of the folks there were heading to pick up some of those famous cannolis. the bakery is a third generation 93-year-old philadelphia tradition. >> it just adds to all of the excitement and the joy and the family. it's just a wonderful thing. >> it's a pleasure to see the same people year after year, families, children. it's wonderful. >> and they are delicious impartial opinion here. terminis has several locations including one at packer avenue, reading terminal market. this one is in south philadelphia and it's opened until 6 o'clock tonight so get down there after this newscast. for some it wasn't the food they were after today, it was last minute gifts on their

shopping lists. walter perez continues our live team coverage today in cherry hill and walter, from the looks of it, more than a few people waited until the very last second. >> reporter: you know, before i knew -- brian, i wouldn't have believed it if i hadn't seen it. this place has been filled all day long it's a mad dash to the cherry hill mall. the blowout sales are in full effect and this place is packed. it's been packed all day long as procrastinators spring into action with christmas right around the corner. if you closely observe last minute christmas shoppers, you find they each fall into one of several categories. you have those who are in denial. >> shopping with my cousin. she's doing most of the last minute shopping. >> reporter: it's not you, right, it's her. >> yeah, it's her. >> reporter: of course. and then you have those who are completely stressed out. >> can't decide what to get. >> reporter: you're running out of time. >> i know. ask them. they don't know what they want for christmas. >> reporter: we went to the

>> ♪ >> we have got some breaking news right now and some incredibly dramatic video just into our news room. you saw that car which careened into the coax bury village assisted living lobby about 3:25 this afternoon. there is the car. when firefighters arrived another scene they found an 89-year-old man pinned beneath

the car. they worked frantically to see that man. they've done so in the last few minutes. but an 87-year-old woman was also hit by debris and flying glass. no word on the conditions of the 89-year-old or 87-year-old at this point or what caused the driver to go into the lobby but again, this is the coax bury village assisted living facility in hockessin delaware. we are working to get all the latest details and we'll give them to you just as soon as we get more here. >> former president george h.w. bush is expected to spend a second night in a houston tonight. he was admitted to the hospital after experiencing shortness of breath. a spokesman says doctors want to keep bush for observation just as a precaution. bush spent almost two months in the same hospital in 2012 and 2013 after he was treated for bronchitis. >> that controversial movie "the interview" set to open across america tomorrow but

you can watch it right now if you want to. sony released that movie online today. it's available on google play, on youtube xbox video and a number of other sites. as of 1 o'clock this afternoon, you can now rent it for $5.99 or buy it for $14.99. meanwhile tomorrow's limited release includes several theaters in our area. the action cam was at the penn sing ma at the riverfront in wilmington delaware. that is one of three theaters in the first state that will show "the interview" starting tomorrow. the others are in middletown and rehoboth beach. several theaters throughout pennsylvania and new jersey will also show that controversial movie. >> one certain dead after getting hit by a truck today in west chester. happened around 10 o'clock this morning in the 700 block of east market street. police have not told us the victim's name. they say he or she was hit by a garbage truck. they're still trying to figure out if the person was walking or riding a bike when it happened. they also don't know what led up to the crash.

>> two police officers were hurt when a pair of cruisers collided in north philadelphia. the cars hit each other around 11:30 last night at 22nd and montgomery avenue. there had been a report of a shooting at 20th and oxford and both cruisers were on their way to check it out. there were six officers in the cars but most of them were okay. one had a concussion but that was the most serious injury of the group. >> ♪ >> all right to business. this christmas eve it was a light day of trading as markets closed early in observation of the holiday the dow gained 58 and a half points today, nasdaq up eight. the s & p also up five today. the markets will reopen on friday. workers across america are getting a raise for the holidays. the minimum wage is set to go up in 20 states on january 1st, another four states and washington, d.c. will raise their minimum wage later in the year. that includes delaware. that's particularly big news for wal-mart employees and fast food workers, two of the groups who protested all year

demanding higher pay. u.s. chamber of commerce and the national retail federation are opposed to a federal wage increase and they have been able to block any attempts to pass a national raise in congress. >> time for the "action news" traffic report on christmas eve. >> we know people are on the move heading home. matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center and looks like they're not getting far. >> not moving quickly. as you guys so eloquently said twas the night before christmas, i'm saying twas the nightmare before christmas on the roadways this evening. it is an absolute mess and has been most of the day because of the really wet conditions brian and shirleen. of course those wet conditions are leading to crashes like this one in delco, 95 northbound by 320 taking out the two right lanes. you're moving very slowly as you come north of namaans road through this point at 320. that travel time of 33 minutes, about four times what it ideally should be this afternoon on the northbound side of 95. it was a nightmare this morning on the vine street expressway because of an overturned truck accident.

this afternoon no accidents here on the vine but plenty of heavy westbound traffic. basically the whole way across town from 95 out to the schuylkill because of extra heavy delays on 76 itself. eastbound by south side street there's a multi vehicle accident on the shoulder but the bigger slow speeds and slowdown is on the westbound side past university out to montgomery where a crash just cleared. also watching some downed wires this afternoon in perkasie closing callowhill street. 152 walnut street a possible alternate. crash along thirls town road. coming full circle on the blue route 476 southbound a crash cleared approaching broomall. still heavy from villanova to this point. merry christmas everybody. one of our friends using the waze app big don talking about blooding in germantown along germantown avenue. we'll check it again, shirleen, coming up in the next half hour. >> see you again soon. thank you matt. this christmas eve is very special for a new dad thanks

storm tracker 6 live double scan radar showing that moisture moving in from a south to north direction. when you look at the ohio valley that moves in through the overnight hours. on street level you can see we've got pockets of moderate rainfall across south jersey from areas in --? you have the to the south there of oceanville at secane atlantic city, oceanville on westward into tuck tuckahoe. on cedarville and fortescue. we're tracking showers and pockets of moderate to heavy rain that continues for the rest of the early half of the evening hours. the other part of the story on this christmas eve it is mild. we're 60 here in philadelphia. and at 65 in dover. 62 in millville and 51 degrees currently in trenton. as we go throughout the rest of tonight and close to mid might mass temperatures in the upper 50's, lower 60's along the 95 corridor even the lower 60's from lakehurst down to wildwood. so here's some of the record warmth that we're tracking

later on tonight really close to midnight and during the overnight hours. philadelphia the record 64 set back in 1990. allentown very close to records later on tonight, close to midnight in the lower 60's. same thing for wilmington and atlantic city and at 65. satellite 6 along with action radar shows you the moisture we have overhead starting to lift off to our north and east. clouds across the ohio valley. then there's another batch of moisture that moves in during the overnight hours so we'll time that out for you. future tracker 6 showing you periods of rain really starting to come to an end around 8:30, just light showers on and off mist and drizzle. visibility still an issue. 12:30 at midnight and a little after if you're head tout midnight mass we have those showers that will linger. once the front actually moves through overnight and early tomorrow morning for christmas day you could see we get a second batch of moisture that moves in down across areas in south jersey right along that 95 corridor. the good news for christmas day and during the afternoon hours tomorrow, we'll start to dry out but the winds are going to pick up on the

backside. here's the call from accuweather for the rest of tonight. some rain will continue and fog as well. near record warmth, close to midnight around 64 degrees and then temperatures crash overnight and early tomorrow morning and throughout the day. we'll bottom out at 52. here's a the four day at 4:00 showing you for christmas is he '53 degrees. friday sunny and nice for kwanzaa at 50 degrees. saturday looking good, mild with sunshine, 54. does not feel like december with these temperatures. on sunday clouds and it is mild with a high temperature then of 50 degrees. so, we're all in a good mood. you know, it's christmas eve, we're a little damp but it gets better for christmas day. >> and winter will arrive sometime. >> yeah, it's going to be here. >> thank you. people in need were served a hot holiday meal in wilmington. delaware governor jack markell and first lady carla. more than 500 meals were

>> it is time now for the buzz and we start with a dubious distinction for poor adam sandler. forbes is out with its list of hollywood's overpaid actors. sandler came in at number one for the second year in a row. forbes took the last three movies from hollywood's biggest names figured out what they were paid and figured out how much the movie actually made. for every dollar sandler got the studio made $3.20. johnny depp, ben stilter ryan reynolds and tom hanks rounded out the top five. not a list you want to be on. some sad news in hollywood. a couple calling it quits.

another bullets of violence on the streets of suburban saint louis last night and more discord between the community and the police. this time in the steve berkeley, missouri where hundreds of protesters gathered at the spot where a white police officer fatally shot a black teenager. berkeley police say the officer was responding to a shoplifting report at a gas station when he encountered two people. one of them police say pointed a gun at the officer. police released video captured outside the gas station during the incident. you have to look carefully but it appears to show a man seen here raising a weapon toward the officer. police say the officer fired in response and the mayor of berkeley backed up that account. >> this young man was shoplifting. when the officer came there, the video shows that -- that that the deceased pointed a

gun that has been recovered. >> reporter: officials are pleading for calm. >> this is a.m. federal right now that regardless of the decisions that this individual made are without a family member this christmas season. this is also a tragedy for the police officer. >> reporter: the police say that they're withholding the officer's name until an investigation is complete. emotions were already raw. the shooting happened just a few miles from ferguson, missouri where michael brown, an unarmed black 18-year-old o was fatally wounded by a white officer in august. but the mayor of berkeley says last night's shooting cannot be compared to the killing of michael brown. reporting live in washington, susan saulny channel6 "action news." brian. >> susan thank i was. bucks county guidance counselor will not face charges for a facebook post that many called threatening. prosecutors have concluded that the post while "inappropriate and ill advised" was not criminal in nature. 37-year-old mary kate

december 26th. officers wenjan liu and rafael ramos were shot to death by a man with a vendetta against police last saturday a funeral for ramos is scheduled for tomorrow. vice president joe biden plans to attend. >> fire destroyed a house today in chester county and a viewer sent us these photos of the home fully engulfed in flames. it's located on old wilmington road just south of route 30 in sadsbury township. the fire was so intense part that of home collapsed. fortunately no injuries were reported here. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. police are looking for two men who they say dressed up in female muslim clothing and then robbed a food market. this surveillance video was taken yesterday at the germantown food market on the 2600 block of germantown avenue. police say one of the suspects hit a worker several times in the head with a handgun. the robbers got away with cash and cigarettes. if you've got any information, you are urged to call police.

>> two adults and three children were hurt after a two vehicle crash in philadelphia's wynnefield section. the scanned around 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of 54th and wynnefield avenue. police say two suv's collided and one of the vehicles slammed into a pole. all of the victims were hospitalized in stable condition. we don't yet know what caused that wreck. >> christmas eve but a merry one nonetheless. >> i can sing the song, brian. >> go for it. nobody's stopping you. >> you know it, christmas is coming. >> yes, it is. >> the goose is getting fat. our area. a trip to reading terminal market. whether it's fresh seafood or sweets, "action news" reporter katherine scott was there as shopper loaded up on all the things needed to make a christmas eve feast complete. >> the reading terminal market is probably our favorite place on earth. >> reporter: that's why the turner family comes here every christmas eve even after moving to virginia to keep up family tradition. >> my father works of worked in town for 45 years and we watched the carols at his bang and then come to the reading terminal market. >> reporter: the seafood, the meat, the people, the sweets, it's december 24th and as usually, the reading terminal market is brimming with holiday spirit. it was also tradition and specifically these little guys that drew the sisters here today. >> every year for 23 years we have been coming down to reading terminal market. we usually try to get up earl to get down here. my dad makes a famous lobster bisque.

>> reporter: over at mueller's chocolate pretzels were freshly dipped, santa stood at the ready. there's a little something for everybody here, anatomically correct kidneys for the medical crowd. for the naughty clock late covered onions. it's been a good season. >> business has been outstanding the entire month. we've had good weather. we've had an uptick in the economy. >> reporter: before dessert comes dinner and they made sure to stock up on their big seller. >> rib roast, occasional turkey but i think people are tired after thanksgiving. >> reporter: shoppers were on the hunt for hostess gifts and stocking stuffs. sue was getting excited for christmas. >> when you work all day every week it's hard to switch gears after work to get into that spirit so this is definitely doing it for me anyway. >> reporter: once they take off all their stops here for a lot of people the work is not over. the next stop is the kitchen.

they got to get the food in the oven and then on the table. at the reading terminal market, katherine scott channel6 "action news. >> we all know that 'tis the season for seasonal depression as well. how do you combat that? for one woman in newark, degrees, lights and a whole lot of decorations. it's her fix. i'm talking lots of trees, 30 to be exact. she decks them out top to bottom each having a different theme. she's also got snow globes and approximately 300 music boxes. she started the tradition 25 years ago after often feeling down around the holidays and it's worked like a charm ever since. >> a bucks county business grant add christmas wish today for one woman in need. melissa of bristol was chose stone get a preowned vehicle free of charge. like an automotive in the bucks county business to business association made this all possible. she was nominated for the vehicle by her coworkers. she was also given gift cards to pay for gas and christmas gift for her children.

could call a tale of dogged devotion burning up the internet today. it begins with a homeless man being rushed to a brazilian hospital after he suffered a seizure but he wasn't going alone. a paramedic grabbed his camera after realizing the man's faithful canine companion was chasing after the ambulance. at one point the pup starts to fall behind exhausted from trying to keep up. the crew though was so touched by this show of loyalty that they decided to stop and let the dog hop on board. went to the hospital, the pup watched patiently as the stretcher was -- at the stretcher while its owner was checked out. no question this dog is man's best friend. finally we love this one today. this is josh here with the blond hair, california man who thought he conduct a kind of social experiment. never could have guessed how this would play out. you see, josh gave a homeless man a hundred dollars and then watched and filmed to see what

he would do. a moment later he was saddened to see the man walk into a liquor store. the homeless man didn't come out with booze but rather food which he took direct to a neighboring park which he took to a park to give out to others who like him were in need. >> there's a lot of people that are just victim of circumstance then didn't go homeless 'cause they're lazy you know were i mean. >> lazy or drug addiction. >> it could be a divorce and one thing leads to another, a and all of a sudden he finds out he's got no money. there's a lot of good people that are homeless. >> and that right there is one of them. josh was so stunned by this he put the man up at a hotel and launched a fundraiser to help get him back on his feet and incredibly so far in just the last couple of days, it has raised more than $72,000 that spirit of generosity now bee getting a lot more of it. a perfect example of why you should never judge a man before you meet him. >> an act of kindness that

kept on giving. love that. thank you brian. let's get another check on the roads tonight. matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center with an update for us. >> that story very nice. that's the holiday spirit. but about the traffic this evening i've got two words, bah humbug. what a mess. we start in new castle county with a crash on the northbound side of 495 at route 13 dupont highway taking out two lanes causing delays on 495 that are spilling back onto 95 northbound. there you see by churchman's road just 18 miles per hour. i think once you get up to the split i'd stick with 95 northbound through wilmington instead of hopping off onto 495 northbound. farther north on 95 you're going to hit a jam by the state line up to 320 in delaware county. that's where that crash we showed you during the last half hour has cleared out but as you can see the delays have not cleared out. 95 in the great northeast some speeds just like 12 miles per hour so pretty much a normal afternoon there by the betsy ross bridge. we've had a few accidents on the schuylkill still one there eastbound by south street. but it's off to the side and

>> yeah, and that's good news because the moisture is going to move out once we get into christmas day but if you're out and about right now just give yourself some extra time. we'll talk about it. storm tracker 6 live double scan radar showing that you we do have that rain overhead but the heaviest already starting to push off shore there in toms river, surf city, atlantic city it's east that of area as well. a few pockets though that we do want to show you as we go in tighter on storm tracker 6 live double scan street level. surf city pockets of moderate rainfall along route nine. traveling southbound in oceanville atlantic city, on westward into route 322 just to the north of egg harbor and to the south of hammonton. already in millville today we picked up more than an inch and a half of rain. now we'll show you another cluster along that 95 corridor. in philadelphia things are starting to thin out just a little bit but more moisture is coming in later on this evening and into tonight and then after that, just in time for christmas day we'll start to clear out. check out these temperatures though. it's pretty mild.

it's 63 degrees currently in philadelphia. dover coming in at 64. the poconos 46. 50 in allentown. so you could see the southerly winds starting to move across much of the delaware and lehigh valleys. currently in millville coming in at 61 degrees. and then later tonight, well, you can see the 60's are going to hold on. so, they are rare for the month of december but not unheard of. the record, well, it's 64 set back in 1990, 2008 we had temperatures in the lower 60's even in 1996 so you could see the 60's are coming in. you're going to kneel milder air even as you wake up tomorrow morning before that front moves on through. so satellite 6 along with action radar shows you we've got showers overhead right now. you get a break as you get into tonight and the overnight hours. you can see the cold front down across the ohio valley that swings through overnight and early tomorrow morning, then after that we've got clearing on the way. future tracker 6 showing you 9 o'clock this evening still a couple showers around and periods of rain, pockets of it will be heavy and then around 1 o'clock, close to midnight

if perhaps you're out at midnight mass you can see we've got a few showers that move on through. 7 o'clock in the morning on thursday still some leftover showers down across south jersey and areas in delaware but we'll start to clear out, clouds will break for some sunshine and then 12:30 on thursday for christmas day the winds are going to pick up on the backside. so here's the call from accuweather as we say merry christmas tomorrow. clouds and some sunshine, winds gusting anywhere from 40 to 45 miles per hour. 9:00 a.m. that temperature around 52 degrees. 1 o'clock in the afternoon tomorrow in the lower 50's and 48 degrees will be that number at 5 o'clock in the evening on christmas day. here's the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast. gusty winds tomorrow, high temperature around 53 early, then falling throughout the day. on friday it's sunny and nice and 50 degrees. saturday nice mixture of sunshine and clouds. it's mild, in the lower 50's. on zip we'll stay mild and at 50 degrees but we will be tracking a little bit of moisture late sunday and on monday it's cloudy and colder and at 42. vote as we get into tuesday
