noon with a developing story a plane carrying 75 people had to make an emergency landing at philadelphia international airport this morning. republic airline flights 5927 was operating as u.s. airways express. it took off at 10:00 a.m. for new hampshire but an engine issue forced the plane to turn around. it landed safely and all passengers got off at the gate and put on other flights. witnesses said they saw flames shooting from the back of the plane, but those reports are unconfirmed by the airline. we continue to update this story on air and online at 6abc.com. family members identified the 10-year-old new jersey boy struck and killed by a police cruiser in franklin township matthew mccloskey was hit at the intersection of elmer and delsea

drive last night. david henry has more on what happened. he joins us live from the scene of the crash. >> reporter: hi, sarah the gloucester county prosecutor's office is handle what happened last night. >> the matter is under investigation and we offer deepest condolences with the child. >> reporter: the 10-year-old was with two other friends crossing delsea drive near his home. matt's grandmother said there were two adults with the boys as matter started to cross the street. the other saw a fast approaching car and called format to come back, it was too late he it was run down by a franklin township police car. witnesses say the police car did not have its lights or siren activated. franklin township said the officer was responding to an you

last known contact and right now they are being tested. from new york, i'm elizabeth hurr channel 6 "action news." >> police are looking for a missing college student that took a leave of absence from the university of pennsylvania. he was last seen by his parents on friday in teaneck new jersey, the investigators have tracked his cell phone to the areas near the george washington bridge. port authority in new jersey and new york are investigating the disappearance. police identified the intruder after he was shot and terrorized residents. man got on a woman's deck and performed a lewd act. he broke into a second apartment an assaulted two people, a resident grabbed a gun and shot him twice. someone held him down until police arrived.

he faces charge of burglary and assault once his condition improves. two philadelphia police officers were injured when part of a burning car went airborne and hit them in the legs overnight. the officers were responding to a garage fire in frankford. a burning volvo station wagon exploded and a peels of the bumper went flying 100 feet breaking the officer's leg and cutting the other officer's leg enough to require stitches. walter palmer announced this weekend the charter school that bears his name will shut down. the school district of philadelphia had closed the high school. palmer was fighting to keep the lower school open, but he sent a letter to parents teachers and students that the school will close permanently on december 31. temperature are on the way back down following a very mild weekend, let's look live outside

seven bodies have been recovered from the greek ferry that caught fire on the adriatic sea raising the death toll to 8. passengers say people started trampling each other once the first rescue helicopter arrived. it took all night to save all the survivors who became trapped. coast guard teams are searching the inside of the ferry. a 50-year-old man survived an attack by a great white shark off the california coast. he was surfing when he was dragged under water and bitten on hip. the shark held him under for several seconds before he broke free and paddled ashore. >> i saw the surf board.
