crews are located bodies in the java sea likely from the air asia jet. >> and there are orange and gray objects bobbing in the water. some of the debris is several yards long. >> bodies have been recovered. the shadow in the shape of a plane can be seen below the service. and an exit door. >> and terry moran has the latest. >> reporter: good morning. you are right. what they have found is what they feared they would find. and what is that indoe nearby ya officials are calling, although they have not confirmed it completely the wreckage of airasia flight 8501 in the java sea, not far from where it last made contact with air traffic control more than two days ago. this search has been going on. and today it broke wide open

when fishermen and search teams both started identifying the debris field that you have described. what they believe is an exit door. what they believe and know are bodies and believe they are from that flight. this is as i say, what they feared they would find. but the fact there is some cloe sure here comes from a relief to investigators and family. >> the working theory was about weather. they were trying to avoid weather. is that direction this investigation is now going to go? and also questions, how can we keep in this day and age, losing planes? it seems falling off radar? >> reporter: the first question t.j. the weather was the one factor mentioned by the pilot of the plane in the last contact with air traffic control. that's what they'll look at. the good news, if there is a

thing, this is shallow waters. they will find the black boxes. the fact they can see the shadow of a plane indicates it came down more or less intact. as far as tracking planes, what we understand from aviation experts is that process needs to be improved. but the data that aplane needs to transmit is massive. and there are so many tens of thousands of planes up in the air every day. that's a huge engineering project going forward, but definitely needs to be improved. >> all right, teri moran live in jacarta. thank you. and in another part of indonesia, family members are getting word. an emotional scene there. >> reporter: yes, reena. i'm standing outside of the crisis center where the family members are at. it was quite emotional. once the news broke, they were watching it live on television from jacarta.

and once that news broke, people started shouting, crying and hugging each other. we have about hundreds and hundreds of journalists outside, peeking into the window trying to get an idea of the emotions going on. i saw about five or i think six people fainted. the medical team carried them out to the hospital. >> it sounded like you said they got the news from television. have the families been kept well-informed from officials whether from the airline or from the government? >> reporter: it seems pretty unorganized to me. because the members here they have been just getting information from national television. and the most emotional moment -- i have to tell you this -- was when indonesiaen television live-streamed a body on television. emotions broke up.

it would have been his thifd term in congress. he pleaded guilty to tax evasion last week. he could face three years in prison. the lawmaker best known for threatening to throw a reporter off a balcony after a question he didn't like. and majority whip steve scalesae admits that 12 years ago he spoke at a conference hosted by a white supremacist group. the group was founded by former klan leader david duke. he spoke to lots of groups, and be detests hate groups but louisiana democrats say he needs to answer questions about how he ended up at that conference. >> susan saulny thank you as always. turn now to the weather in the midwest. bitter cold today. below zero in north dakota. and during the day, going down to minus 13. today's high won't break zero.

so, you know what this means... this is a real win win! yoplait, it is so good! . updating the morning's breaking news it appears searchers have found the missing arab asia jetliner. >> they have pulled bodies from the java sea as well as what appears to be wreckage from the air bus a 320. disappeared on a flight this weekend. the pilot asked for permission to climb to avoid severe storms. some family members became hysterical as they watched the recovery efforts on tv. we have full coverage on abcnews.com and just in a dit onbit on "good morning america." and hundreds of reports of meteors across the northeast.

violently. >> loud noticeise, and shaking. and it was failing repeatedly. >> the plane landed safely. no one was injured. everyone boarded another plane who's engines were not shooting flames. a mississippi preschooler is fighting for her life because of heroic efforts. her mother's car flipped over in a ditch full of water. the little girl was inside. the family across the street rushed in, but had trouble cutting her free from the safety seat. >> at this point she had been under water for already five minutes before -- probably closer to ten, honestly by the time we had enough people who -- my father had stopped to get the car up. >> the jacksons say they didn't think, they just acted. the child is in critical condition.
