good afternoon rick is off and in the news this noon, more than a dozen people are forced out of their homes which a large fire hours ahead of the new year. and drivers should get ready for higher prices at the gas pump how the new tax will affect your wallet. it's very cold for anybody heading out and about on the town, it was already a chilly morning for crews working outdoors here at penn's landing, they had to load the sound equipment for the fireworks display along the delaware river, have you two chances to watch the show, once at 6:00 p.m. and once at midnight. david murphy has the full story now from accuweather. >> we are gradually getting colder over the last couple of days and we are right in the thick of it. cloud cover to the north and west. and as this cloud cover makes it

down to relatively dry air in place, and it fall as part and we think a few clouds should come in and it's looking bright. the temperatures will still cold 31 degrees in philadelphia and 33 in wilmington and lancaster in the upper 20s and we managed to touch the 30 degree mark in allentown and trenton. temperatures around the freezing mark there. we have the winds out of the northwest they are noticeable. 35 miles per hour wind in philadelphia 16 in wilmington and it's coming down out of canada and the great lakes and 10 degrees in the poconos and 12 in wildwood and cold temperatures with that relatively strong wind, making it feel like the low 20s, everywhere in the region 23 is what it feels like in philadelphia right now. forget about tonight, if you have plans to get out tonight you need layers all of that extra gear. 35 degrees and sun and brisk and

information for us at a news conference joins us with more. chad? >> two investigations remain one by upper darby police and one by the district attorney's office. >> if you listen to the videos you'll know that he was a troubled man on a collision course with police. >> this is the vehicle joseph pet pet petitchi was drive he was hit three times in the upper body. >> he was hit two in the shoeltd and one in the back of the neck. he was wanted for making terroristic threats against police and law enforcement. they first became aware of the man when he made threats and he posted several rants on youtube where he again threatened police

some of what are inappropriate for broadcast. >> the lose lose scenario just try to arrest me now consequently -- >> there police followed him and stopped him in upper darby after being ordered to get out of his vehicle, he allegedly backed up at a high rate of speed narrowly missing officers and hitting a police cruiser that is when officers opened fire on him. several bullets hit nearby businesses which michael chitwood says is always concerning but maintains that the shooting was justified. >> you have to look at it in its totality. once the investigation is conducted i can speak for the upper darby guys but the

officers were in a crisis situation and they were in fear of their life and did what they had to do. >> and police tell me that police were arrested in 2005 in philadelphia for threatening a landlord and had been committed to a psychatic facility by his mother. i'm chad pradelli channel 6 "action news." >> chad, thank you. five hours after that shooting in delaware county police in south jersey fatally shot a man bridgeton police officers pulled over a 36-year-old man at henry street and south avenue at 9:30 last night. they say the man had a handgun but not what led up to the shooting. david henry is gathering the details on this case and will have a live report from bridgepton at 12:30. gun fire claim aided a life in cambridge section of philadelphia.

a 39-year-old man was shot twice and died minutes later at temple university hospital. police have no motives and no suspects. >> a case worker in delaware is threaten to take away a woman's children if she didn't give him sexual favors. he surrendered to the police department. the department was under investigation since august. i-35 northbound in philadelphia a truck overturned spilling solid concrete on bridge street at 9:30 a.m., only one lane was getting by and the truck driver was taken to the hospital in stable condition no word on what caused the crash and all lanes were open shortly before noon. the grim task of recovering bodies continues in the java sea after an air asia flight crashed there on thursday so far ten

bodies have been found. >> reporter: the massive search for bodies and debris from air asia flight 8501 continues, strong currents and heavy rain slowing efforts but indonesia authorities say they are trying to speed up the recovery of the passengers and crew so they can be buried. several bodies are retrieved including one female in her flight attendant form. family members have described their loved one. family of victims will arrive at the search site. and the search is still on for the airbus but the exact location of the aircraft is unknown. >> nothing is confirmed yet. there are lots of rumors going around and until we have official confirmation what you

have heard is all speculation. this man lost his sister and niece and he says that officials told him yesterday that the plane had been found and the news the plane is still missing is extremely disappointing, the malaysian navy tweeted the flight that was located. it's unclear if the flight was deployed or activated on impact. for now it's about gathering clues from the debris and the body recovered. the key is what caused the plane to crash can only be answered when the black boxes are found. chopper 6 hd over breaking news now over smyrna delaware this is a fire involving a tractor trailer here, happening at about 11:00 this morning. this is delaware route 1 southbound in smyrna you can see the truck thereof to the

hundreds of drivers in southern california were caught in the dangerous win fer storm last night. and crews had to tow close to 200 cars from icy roads in san bernardino county crews worked art who goat people to safety

before the temperatures plunged. this storm will bring a rare snow storm to las vegas on new year's day. one of the victims was killed when powerful winds knocked a tree on his home in paradise, california, trees were to blame for most of the damage in town. it sounded like the storm brought down every tree in the neighborhood. >> in like five or six minutes five or six trees were down. >> the town is known for its trees so this is hard for the neighborhood. heavily armored counter terrorism team as long with bomb sniffing dogs and police helicopters will monitor the crowd. 1 million people are expected to come out for that celebration and police are on the lookout for possible protests against

gas prices are still the lowest they have been in years but there is a bit of bad news for pennsylvania today gas prices on diesel are going up again tomorrow the second of three increases slated for three years to pay for construction on

the state roads and bridges. affective tomorrow the gas tax increases a dime per gallon and diesel will go up 13 cents per gallon and the third increase won't happen until 2017. health check this noon, more americans are surviving cancer death rates have dropped 2% over the last two decades. 1.5 million cancer deaths are avoid because of earlier detection and lower rates of smoking. the southern states had the lower rates in death rates while the northeast has the greatest improvement. the new year has a new safe guard against a common fireplace hazard. all new glass front fireplaces must come with a protective barrier to protect people from burning their hands. the glass fronts can have scalding temperatures up to

nice picture, i'm sure mark was bundled up. because it is cold out there 31 is the temperature in the city and we are trying to inch our way above the freezing mark and the wind is running north-northwest at 15 miles per hour. and it feels worse than the 51 and most of us are feeling windchills in the low 20s right now temperature wise 33 in wilmington and allentown and reading and 29 in lancaster and the freezing mark downtown along the shore we have dry air in place and the clouds that try to make a one are kind of falling apart. and you notice the dew point that is an indication of real dry air, we maintain sunny conditions the rest of the way in allentown it's brisk and cold and windchills making it feel like the low 20s most of the day and mid-20s later on down the shore a little bit better and mostly sunny and even at the shore, mid to upper 20s, as we go through the afternoon, in

philadelphia the cold of the high of the week a high of just 35 degrees, brisk and the wind running 20 to 30 miles per hour. and we are looking at the win profile and is more consistent, tonight overnight we drop to 24 in philadelphia, and the cold air is definitely in place and some suburbs will get into the teens tonight and between the two numbers we have the evening forecast if are you headed home from work to get done what you are doing tonight. brisk and cold and 33 and freezing mark by 5:30 and below freezing by a couple of tics by 10:00. if are you going out to bang the pots and pans and spending time out there with the midnight fireworks the temperature is 28 in philadelphia and the windchill is 20 i am recommending some layers beneath the heavy coat and gloves and scarves and hats and extra gear, that is the way to probably and joy the fireworks tonight and the mummers tomorrow more of
