ow freezing and that could lead to slick spots. what was have been free falling for most of the day. we started out at midnight with a temperature of 50 degrees and currently in philadelphia we're coming in at 34 degrees so we definitely have seen a temperature drop in the wake of the cold front that moved last night and that cold air will continue to settle in in advance of this clipper system we're tracking on the way for tuesday. temperatures outside this afternoon, 34 in philadelphia but a current wind chill of 22 in the city, 32 in trenton, 21 up in the poconos along the coast in sea isle city 38 the up are 30's as well in beach haven and 36 degrees in dover so temperatures are already below the freezing mark. here's what we're tracking for tomorrow. storm tracker 6 live double scan radar showing you this clipper system it's an alberta clipper system, diving out of the region of canada known as alberta. continues to dip on down to the south and east and it will work its way eastward as we go throughout the day on tuesday, so we'll talk about the time line and what we can expect with the moisture on the way. we do have that winter weather advisory that has been posted

for philadelphia, south jersey all of delaware as we are tracking a light snowfall any time between 5:00 a.m. wrapping up at 4 o'clock on tuesday. so here's what we can expect. start time six to eight clock in the morning light snow, general 1 to 2 inches across the region. this will call for slick roads and slow travel blustery and cold conditions tuesday and details coming up in the accuweather forecast. shirleen. >> thank you melissa. let's continue our live team cover ridgeway david henry live on the schuylkill expressway with more on how road crews are getting ready. hi david. >> reporter: timing of that storm has potential of turning rush hour into a real mess tomorrow morning so penndot is doing everything it can to stay ahead of the storm pretreating roadways all day today. this penndot truck was putting down a brine mixture on montgomery county today. trucks were doing the same in bucks chester and delaware

counties as well. highways through philadelphia until after 6:00 tonight and then at midnight it's all hands-on deck. >> allstate equipment will be out on the roadway. we'll start salting as soon as the snow bins to fall whether it's during rush hour or after the rush hour on tuesday morning. >> reporter: penndot doesn't expect to do any plowing but with intermittent snow squalls moving through the area the trucks will probably end up salting and then resalting problems areas and penndot has plenty of salt on hand. last year they broke all records laying down almost 173,000 tons. stock piles have been replenished and we've barely made a dent in them this year. >> over 100,000 tons of salt stockpiled come canning into this past weekend and leading into saturday we used 8,200 tons. >> reporter: by this time last year they had already used 45,000 tons.

6abc.com/weather. >> developing right now police say they've arrested the man who murdered a limo driver in west philadelphia. rodriguez was shot to death saturday night in front of his fiancé. police say three men got into his car and robbed him. when he turned over the money police say they shot him anyway. they've now charged 26-year-old alonzo del la guard with murder. they're questioning a second person and they've identified a third person but are still looking for him today. sarah bloomquist will have a report with more for us this evening at 5:orange the murder of pennsylvania state trooper was replayed in court today. accused cop killer eric frein faced a preliminary hearing in pike county. "action news" reporter chad pradelli is live at the courthouse in milford. chad you have know more on what was an emotional day there.

>> reporter: yes brian watching that surveillance video was a very difficult. friends and family of the victims were holding hands inside of the courtroom. one of the few people who did not get emotional was eric frein. a clean cut eric frein again showed no emotion as he was escorted into the pike county courthouse in milford. once inside district attorney wasted little time showing state police surveillance video of the ambush p it shows corporal bryan dickson being shot first in the parking lot of the blooming grove barracks. he dropped to the ground. a short time later trooper alex douglass ran from a lower parking lot and tried to help but he, too wall shot. another surveillance camera captured a wounded douglas struggling to move himself into the state police lobby for cover. it appears he couldn't use his legs. after several minutes go by, troopers pull douglas to safety. they then work frantically to save corporal dixon who remained outside the building. after pulling the vehicle

around for cover they eventually pulled his limp body inside. >> it's an important first step, the preliminary hearing at this point and as i've previously mentioned it's the start of answers to questions for the public, the victims and their families. >> to do the best that we can for him. my primary goal would be to save mr. frein's life. obviously if it's a death sentence. >> reporter: she sat solemnly. prosecutors also entered into evidence a checkbook in frein's name and two improvised explosive devices that they say were found in an abandoned campsite. they also showed two rifles, a handgun, a computer and two thumb drives that they say were found insides an abandoned hangar outside of which frein was captured after six weeks on the run. and the district attorney also revealed a letter that frein

allegedly wrote to his parents. in it he talks about a revolution apologizes to his parents and also indicated that he did not want to be identified in the shooting. i'm live in milford, chad pradelli, channel6 "action news." >> chad thank you. as you know we have been following this story every step of the way on 6abc.com. including the shooting back in september, the 48 day manhunt frein's arrest. we'll have updates as they happen from the courtroom for you right there on 6abc.com. >> the trial of a man accused of bombing the boston marathon began today right in the city he's accused of at tag. dzhokhar tsarnaev is the only surviving suspect in the 2013 bombing. today jury selection began for his case. the judge and lawyers for both sides are going through a list of more than 1200 names. they are looking for 12 jurors and six alternates. opening statements are expected later this month. the trial itself is expected to take up to four months.

tsarnaev faces the death penalty if convicted. >> this was a frightening morning for employees of a port richmond toys r us when a man fired a shot right at that store. check out the bullet hole right there on the store's front door. it happened just before 6:30 this morning on aramingo avenue and ontario street just as workers were getting ready to open that store for the day. no one was hurt and the man ran off after firing that shot. police are looking at surveillance video in hopes of identifying the suspect. >> joey merlino is back in prison after a judge ruled he violated this parole. merlino was spotted talking with another mob captain. merlino called it a chance encounter but a judge did not believe him. he's been living in florida since he was released in 2011. he had been serving time for racketeering. >> phillies have a new pitcher for their starting rotation. the team agreed to a one year

deal with aaron harang today. he'll earn $5 million plus performance bonuses. spender most of his career with the cincinnati reds. jimmy rollins says even though he won't be on the phillies anymore, he's not going to leave the delaware valley behind. short stop announced today he'll keep his charity the rollins family foundation active in the region. the group says it will continue to work with groups that helps teach children how to eat healthy and helps families get access to fresh too. rollins was traded to the dodgers last month. he says he'll look for opportunities to expand his charity in his new city. >> still ahead why low gas prices may not stop you from paying more at the pump. >> latest on the search for the wreckage in the air asia plane crash as crews try to get closer to the debris. why some experts are worried about what investigators have not found.

>> ♪♪ >> bodies today near the crash site of airasia flight 8501 but bad weather made it impossible for divers to reach the wreckage. the u.s.s. fort worth wrapped up a seconds day of searching in the java sea near indonesia but rough weather has stopped dive teams from reaching five large sections of the plane that indonesian officials say they have detected. the jet went down more than a week ago with 162 people on board but investigators still don't know what went wrong. indonesia's weather service says it could have been ice but experts say there's no way to know which is why finding the plane's black boxes are so important. >> black boxes will have hard evidence cockpit voice recording. a couple days after they pull it up we should have at least an indication of what went wrong. >> the water where the debris has been found sewnly about 100 feet deep. that has some experts

concerned about why no one has heard pings from the black boxes yet. >> even though gas prices are at their lowest point in years you could be about to pay more at the pump. senator says he's opened to raising the gas tax. that particular tax is not gone up since 1993. it funds the federal highway fund which is looking at about a 100 billion dollars shortfall this year. that fund is used to he repair the country's roads and bridges. business monday afternoon the first full week of trading in 2015 off to a pretty nasty start today. the dow was in freefall and lost 331 points. the nasdaq also down significantly 74 points. the s & p off 37 and a half on the day. it was a very happy holiday for auto makers. low gas prices, rising consumer confidence and low interest rates combine for huge december sales figures. general motors says new vehicle sales jumped more than 19 percent last month.

so with those winds coming in out of the west-northwest and those blustery winds as well it makes it feel like we have a wind chill in philadelphia of just 22 degrees. feeling like the teens north and west for allentown reading and lancaster just the single digit numbers in the poconos at 9 degrees and 26 degrees in sea isle city. cold air is setting up shop ahead of a clipper system we're tracking. storm tracker 6 live double scan radar showing this clipper system that's driving out of the northern plains moving across the upper midwest and will continue to race off into the eastern half of the u.s. later on tonight and affect our region as early as tomorrow morning. future tracker 6 has you covered. as you wake up tomorrow morning 6:30 in the morning it's mostly cloudy for a lot of the locations but as you look offer to the south and west you do notice light snow showers starting to develop for areas of lancaster. 8 o'clock in the morning give yourself some extra time because showers will start to fill in across the region from the west-east west direction. by noon, 12:30 tomorrow afternoon we have a little bit

of light snow shower activity which is why that winter weather advisory has been posted for philadelphia, south jersey and delaware and it looks like this storm system will start to wrap up by 3 or 4 o'clock in the afternoon. here are the key take away points with this clipper system we're tracking on tuesday. we're calling for fluffy light snow. so, it's very cold outside you have very dry air mass overhead. this snow you can easily brush off your cars and off the windows. start time between 6 o'clock and 8 o'clock in the morning and it will end roughly between 2 o'clock and 4 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. over all calling for 1 to 2 inches. call for accuweather for the rest of the night increasing clouds west wind. dropping down one in philadelphia, 16 in the suburbs for the overnight low. your four day at 4:00 showing you periods of light snow tomorrow, high temperature 29. a general 1 to 2 inches likely. as we get into wednesday windy and cold, a high temperature of 28. but wind chills on wednesday only in the teens and the core of the cold air moves in wednesday night and into

broke 43 from the group and chased after the guy they had just walked past. a fight broke out and one of the victims was knocked unconscious for several minutes. he was rushed to the hospital with bleeding on the brain. the suspects ran back to their group and then kept walking. if you've got any information on this assault please call philadelphia police. >> doan tollefson today rejected a last minute plea deal and plans to defend himself against theft charges at his trial on theft charges in bucks county. 62-year-old tollefson initially pled guilty to scamming sports fans who because the fake travel packages in the name of charity but he withdrew that plea in mid-december. jury selection got under way today. we'll have more on what happened in court today in a live report come congress up at 5:30. investigators are trying to determine what sparked a fire that sent two people to the hospital in west philadelphia this morning. the action cam was on the scene as one of the victims was treated outside the home on the 800 block of brooklyn

street. the fire started around 11:00 but was quickly knocked down. officials say one of the victims may have been in a wheelchair. conditions of the injured have not yet been released. >> a teenager has been arrested in connection to the first murder of 2015 in philadelphia. 16-year-old jakira moore has been charged as an adult for the death of harris. police say he shot the teen several times on his head inside his home in olney. harris was pronounced dead just after 5:00 a.m. on new year's day. police have not yet released a motive. well, this is 24-year-old mark partly cloudy of harrington delaware. he's charged with stealing his own grandmother's debit card and using it at several different locations. parker is also accused of taking several of his grandmother's checks out of her checkbook and cashing them by forging her signature. parker later apologized to her via facebook. he's been charged with forgery conspiracy and other charges.

. >> it could soon be illegal for people in oklahoma to wear popular winter clothing item. i'm talking about hoodies sweatshirts. it's already illegal wear such clothing during a crime but a new amendment has been introduced that would ban people from hiding their identity in public in general. the fine for that fashion would cost you $500. republican state senator don barrington who authored the amendment says it's one way state leaders can provide extra protection to businesses. it would provide exceptions such as religious beliefs. a california woman found herself in a rather embarrassing spot over the weekend. the 35-year-old had to be cut out of her ex-boyfriend's chimney while completely naked. she apparently removed her clothing in order to age her dispense into her former boyfriend's home.

roads, things are not going so well here in bellmawr camden county. northbound side of 42 backed up severely from north of lower landing road through this point at creek road up to 295. it's emergency construction. it's the reason for the parking lot. a collapsed sewer great that they're needing to repair so three of the lanes are blocked. just one lane getting by on northbound 42 and it's causing this huge backlog. no word on when the construction crews will going to pull out of the way. you want to avoid 42. maybe stick with the black horse pike or the white horse pike. also the ramp connecting 295 northbound with 42 is blocked because of that construction. but you may want to use 295 through gloucester county instead. the new jersey turnpike still has southbound road work near 62 for 322 block the left lane scheduled until 6 o'clock this evening. water main break in the heart of princeton moore street and spruce street expected to be out there until 8 o'clock. bucks county big backups on route one the not so super highway by the pennsylvania

right now. we're tracking that clipper system. the snow arrives just in time for that commute in the morning so give yourself some extra time. spring mountain sky 6 live hd giving that you shot there. you can see skiers on the slopes dealing with that snow. we'll be dealing with snow from mother nature as early as tomorrow. we're going to be tracking the arrival time and how much we're expecting with this weak clipper system that moves in. storm tracker 6 live double scan showing it's dry and quiet across the delaware and lehigh valley. that clipper system still off to the west moving across the northern plain but will race eastward as early as overnight and into tuesday. high temperature today a little deceiving. 50 degrees at around midnight but for most of the day temperatures have been crashing and falling down into the 30's and they will that continue to do so overnight in anticipation of this moisture that we're tracking tomorrow. here's the other part of the story on our monday. peak wind gusts, winds coming in out of the west-northwest

as you take a look at the wind particles, gusting as high as 31 miles per hour, gusting up up to 31 miles per hour in atlantic city and in the poconos 28 miles per hour making it feel like we have wind chills across the region in the teens single digits in the poconos and 22 degrees is the current wind chill number in philadelphia, feels like 27 in sea isle city. just 15 degrees in lancaster and one of that single digit 9-degree wind chill up in the poconos. here's satellite6 along with action radar. it's quite across much of our region right now. the clouds are starting to build and thicken off to our west with lake effect snow showers earlier today. that is shutting off but what we are tracking as we widen out this picture the storm system that's quickly coming out of the northern plains diving to the south and east. this works its way eastward as early as tomorrow. that will track out the precipitation for you. future tracker 6 showing you early tuesday morning 7 o'clock in the morning looks to be mostly cloudy across the region and starting to break out from a west-east

direction. 8:30 in the morning still light snow showers across the area and continues at 12:30 in the afternoon which is why that winter weather advisory has been posted for chester bucks county down across south jersey and right into delaware and looks like this moisture will wrap up as early as 4 o'clock on tuesday afternoon. so overall this is what we are calling for. the start time between 6 o'clock and 8 o'clock in the morning, light snow generally 1 to 2 inches of snowfall on the way. the problem is going to be the timing because at the onset of the snow arriving, temperatures will be below the freezing mark which means the snow is going to stick on the roads so give yourself some extra time. so travel is a big concern. blustery and very cold as well throughout the day on tuesday and a reinforcing shot of cold air as early as midweek. the call from accuweather for the rest of tonight very cold increasing clouds, 21 in philadelphia for the overnight low, 17 in allentown and 23 degrees for the overnight low in cape may. here's the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast. on tuesday, periods of light

snow, high temperature up to 29 degrees. overall 1 to 2 inches of snow. i think in philadelphia at this time will be closer to the 1 inch rather than the two. wednesday windy and cold, a high temperature up to 28 degrees but wind chills midweek only in the teens and then check out the overnight low on wednesday. we'll drop down to 10 degrees so a reinforcing shot of arctic air moves in wednesday night right into thursday. brisk and very cold by then, a high temperature up to 22 degrees. on friday, some sunshine, not as bitter, high temperature then of 33. at least we're 1 degree above the freezing mark by then but that temperature sticks around as we get into the weekend. 30 on saturday becoming cloudy on sunday with a high of 37 and the threat of some rain or snow showers as we get into next weekend but we are tracking that light snowfall and some minor events. the problem however is going to be the timing. we'll be tweeting and facebooking tonight and into tomorrow guys. >> sounds good. thank you melissa. saving with 6abc is coming up next

the withy big problem with this system is not the amount of snow. accumulations will be light. it's the fact that the bulk of that will be occurring during the morning commute. storm tracker 6 live double scan showing us this is what's known as an alberta clipper it's a fast moving low pressure, doesn't have a lot of moisture with it and this will be diving to the south. now parts of the midwest will get 3 to 6 inches from this system but the mountains will tend to really weaken so we're looking at light accumulations but any accumulation when temperatures are dropping quickly can cause some problems. the national weather service has issued winter weather advisories for light snow along the i-95 corridor and all areas to the south and east from 5 o'clock tomorrow morning until 4 o'clock in the afternoon. and this is is coming with some very cold air. right now philadelphia is 32 degrees. millville 33. allentown 27. wilmington 31. a big change from yesterday when some areas made it into the 60's. future tracker showing 7 o'clock tomorrow morning
