"action news" is live with team coverage of the snow and john rawlins tracking conditions in delaware county and meteorologist cecily tynan and monica malpass is monitoring conditions now. lets begin with cecily with the latest from stormtracker 6 live double scan. >> it's big story is the refreeze, because stormtracker 6 live double scan showing there really isn't anything falling from the sky right on schedule this storm system moved out and now as far as snowfall totals we called for 1 to 2 inches of

snow. kennett square 1.5 and williamstown 1.4 and wood side new jersey an even inch of snow. it was enough to cause problems in the morning and afternoon hours, here is what to expect we see a few flakes here or there and the steady snow is out of here and temperatures are falling well below freezing and they have been below freezing all day and that means icy patches and slick spots through the evening hours and tomorrow. future tracker showing we are not completely done with the snow and in the morning we see clouds generally dry however following this clipper is an arctic front and this has enough moisture to see out some sort of snow squalls in the afternoon hours, they are isolated and could reduce visibilities and address a quick coating of snow but what it does is open the door for brutally cold air, that

is the big story for the rest of the week, for more on that lets head to meteorologist, melissa magee. >> as we track the alberta clippers that move on through, they reenforce the cold air in the delaware and lehigh valley that is what we deal with as we get into the day on thursday 23 in philadelphia and 19 in allentown and teens for reading and lancaster and 13 in the poconos and along the coast in beach haven sea isle city in the upper 20s, check out the temperatures in the upper atlantic region 42 in richmond virginia and the arctic front is moving on through and 16 in buffalo and pittsburgh. we have the core of that cold air 1 degree below zero in international falls and the single digits in bismark north dakota sioux falls in south

dakota. 6:30 tomorrow evening, windchills in the single digits as we get into philadelphia not much of a recovery with these temperatures temperatures are bee will he zero and in fact 20 degrees below zero likely thursday morning into the poconos that is why the national weather service issued the winter weather advisory for carbon and monroe counties. we'll take a closer look at the forecast and see how long this cold snap is sticking around. >> thank you. the commute is messy throughout the area today. these septa riders were boarding a bus in east falls. >> and as cecily and melissa mentioned the snow is clearing out but it was a much different story earlier today. >> switching live to john rawlins in media for how

conditions were in delaware and chester county today. hey john. >> hi monica i'll tell you this is state street in media we saw the last flake fall here about 45 minutes ago, primary and most secondary roads are now fairly clear, it's a far cry from what we had this morning when we had a rocky and slow start. it was a fine, light christmas card like snow that fell on the western suburbs this morning, a blanket of white pretty to look at but not drive in. slow and slippery i have four-wheel-drive and i slid off the back roads there was slipping and sliding on main roads as well. icy conditions were reported but snow was not enough to cancel school in delaware or chester counties but during the morning rush quick trips became something else.

>> i started out and it took me an hour and a half because 202 was a parking lot, dead stand still nothing plowed. >> i left an hour and a half ago to take my son to school and i got a quarter mile, and turned around it was slippery and slick and i conget anywhere. >> it took a lot of salt to improve things but drivers said by late morning the roads were improving. >> they are out and doing their jobs and i made it here safely. but please take it slow. >> that is good advice if are you driving or walking, much of the pavement is clear over here, but other spots like this sidewalk is still snow covered and given the low temperatures it could get real dicey real quick, live in media john rawlins channel 6 "action news." down at the shore you can recognize the coast in atlantic city this morning as storm

clouds moved over the resort town this is the view from the sky 6 camera and it stayed dreary there all day long. meantime in delaware the traffic was snarled in newport, newcastle county after a crash there, this was it's scene along route 41 as drivers moved along at a steady crawl. time to check conditions on the traffic report tuesday night. matt pellman is in the traffic center how is the evening shaping up? >> is this too little snow to complain about rick and monica? >> no not at all. >> i know you'll complain rick, we have a lot of accidents from a little bit of snow, it doesn't take much and on it's secondary roads we see a lot of slush and ice you can see a coating of slush on the roadway and if you hit that and try to stop you'll go slip sliding into that field. you have to take it easy even though the highways are looking

time for accuweather and cecily tynan is here and old man winter hit us when expected. not a tremendous snow storm but the first one of 2015, some people like the snow this is from amanda of middletown, it shows her little girl and son enjoying the snow this photo is of a summer baby. this is like rick when it snows. not everybody likes the snow. stormtracker 6 live double scan showing the steady accumulating snow is over and gray in parts of chester county and parts of western montgomery county and those are lingering flurries and the low pressure is moving out. some of the higher snowfall totals still not a lot in florence, new jersey 1.5 and

wayne and millville new jersey reporting snow, an inch in philadelphia. our low was 19 degrees, how high only 24 degrees and temperatures will not be climbing out of the 20s until friday right now it's 24 in philadelphia and millville 22 and allentown 19 and reading 17 and wilmington 23 degrees, it doesn't feel that bad because the winds are light wind speed from calm to 6 miles per hour and the big change for tomorrow is that it will get very blustery. you'll feel a change in the air mass and it will feel colder than today. satellite 6 along with action radar showing that system is moving out and now an arctic boundary from the great lakes and that brings us a shot of cold air not a lot of moisture associated with it and it's around here, but when it pulls

through the heights lower and that could pull moisture from the upper atmosphere in the form of snow squalls, not everyone will see them but we'll have a few in the afternoon. wind gusts 30 to 40 miles per hour and windchills will generally be in the single digits and teens and again in the afternoon the best chance between 4:00 and 6:00, in the city we'll see a few snow squalls and a brief burst of pretty intense snow and could increase visibility and bring a fresh coating of snow, the windchill tomorrow morning, generally in the teens and look at what happens by late tomorrow night, by 11:00 the windchill 8 below and the poconos, the windchill not making that up 24 degrees below zero and windchills remain below zero for most of our viewing area for thursday morning. this is the coldest air mass since last january, when we had

river to save a suicidal woman. we'll hear from the officer directly on "action news." the area is breaking out the shovels and brooms for first snowfall. it wasn't a major snow maker but made getting out of the area tricky and dangerous at times. a driver was killed on a head-on crash in cherry hill on berlin road it involved a car and a delivery van, authorities are not releasing the victim's name and it's not clear if the other driver was injured. >> meanwhile along south clinton area people bundled up in hats and scarves to go to work. one man rode his bike to his destination, hopefully he got there without slipping on icy patches. >> a cold wait for the bus ride this morning. people had large umbrellas to

shield them from snow and the buses kept up with demand despite dealing with road reasons. >> in montgomery county the trucks with hard at work when the sun came up. the snow continued to cover montgomery avenue. lets get the latest from monica malpass live at the "action news" big board. >> reporter: hi there rick and monica we are tracking double scan radar and the clipper system is moving north and east and still some left over flakes and flurries this moisture is tapering off. we have seen in wilmington 1.6 inches of snow and 1.2 in horsham and pleasantville in south jersey we have seen 1.1 inches of snowfall. here is what to expect for the rest of the evening, and the early half of the hours we'll end and a few flakes are around

bronx, the to officers were responding to a grocery store robbery they joined three other plain clothes officers in the search the to officers were wuned by the same shooter, the nypd released surveillance footage of one of the suspects and that led to a flood of tips. >> putting the photograph out helped. we got in a short period of time to our tips hot line, 29 tips, ten of which accurately identified the suspect. the suspected trigger man will be charged with five counts of attempted murder and robbery and carjacking and the other man is only charged in the robbery, both officers are listed in stable condition tonight. last night's shooting comes two weeks after the deadly patrol car ambush that killed to officers.

about four yards to reach her and when i got my feet underneath me i carried her under my arms. a group of police and emt's were there to revive the victim. >> she is expected to survive because the officer responded instantly for a life or death sitdation. >> she came to shore with water bubbling out of her mouth unconscious, he is a great guy on this particular day god put him in the right place at the right time. >> he has years of water training rescue the officer is getting pats on the back but doesn't consider himself a hero. >> it's what i signed up to do and i know any other officer in the brick town police department would do the same thing. >> the officer of course stressing he doesn't want to be called a hero but he did put

to two inches. it's starting to move on out but get ready for the chill, we'll show you stormtracker 6 live double scan, some left over flakes and snow showers, we'll go tighter on stormtracker 6 live double scan street level and you can see close to buxom county and perkasie some snow showers moving into your region and the south on i-47 6 there a cluster of snow showers, this will taper into the evening hours and get ready for the chill that sticks around midweek the action cam was outside earlier this afternoon. getting a shot of the holly bush you can see the snow covered leaves and branches and for the most part we saw an inch to 2 inches of snowfall. philadelphia is reporting an inch of snow. these numbers are cold, we are below average and below freezing and 16 degrees below average for

the high and officially 40 degrees, nowhere near that with the arctic clipper moving through. 19 in trenton and 18 for reading and lancaster along the coast temperatures are in the middle and lower 20s. satellite 6 along with action radar shows you that things thin out across the region that is what is left of the clipper system that moved out it moves out to the north and east and the clouds are starting to break apart as well and staying partly cloudy and cold as we get into the overnight hours and into wednesday. future tracker 6 has this set up for you we are tracking an arctic front through the day and the clipper system is part of that front and that moves in tomorrow. 7:00 in the morning and a couple of left over snow showers are around and once the front moves on through, we could find a burst of snow once again popping up across the region by 1:00

it's north and west of town and you get renegade snow showers from the frontal boundary moving on through, it's windy and a colder day winds gust 30 to 40 miles per hour. and windchills for most of the region from 5 to 15 degrees during the day and a few snow squalls and a brief burst of snow and it looks to arrive in the city between 4:00 and 6:00 in the evening. once the front moves on through, get ready for the winds and windchills the advisory is issued for carbon and monroe counties, it started tomorrow night, we could see windchills from 15 to 20 degrees below zero extra layers are needed. and the call from accuweather for the rest of the tonight, partly cloudy and it's a cold one 20 in the city and 15 in the suburbs. tomorrow windy and cold the high of 26 but dress for windchills in the single digits especially north and west and
