paris. police cornered the three brothers they say carried at wednesday's massacre at charlie hebdo. the interior minister said they exchanged gunfire with officers then hold up inside not knowing one of the employees was still there hiding. the brothers then reportedly called a french tv station saying they were commissioned by al-qaeda in yemen and were defending the prophet mohammed. meanwhile inside a kosher supermarket east of paris police say another accused terrorist killed four hostages. he reportedly called the same television station claiming he synchronized attack and he was a member of isis. investigator say he also murdered a police officer in a shootout yesterday and was killed in today's siege. his accomplice is still on the run. today through a translator french president francis

holland says the company remains on high alert. >> the interpreter: it is not over yet with the threat. >> reporter: and there is a big rally scheduled in paris for sunday the same day eric holder will meet with world leaders to discuss combating terrorism and the threat of home grown jihadists. marci gonzalez abc news new york. >> what exactly do we know about the brothers. u.s. authorities are releasing more information this afternoon about the men who earned the title most wanted in france. again, they are dead after a two day manhunt suspected of killing people at that par his newspaper. they say said the yoder brother traveled to yem nen 2011 and trained with al-qaeda. take a look at home videos. you see the younger brother sharif looks like your average teen. he tried and failed to make it as rapper but was known to police as a petty criminal. in 2005 he was arrested on terrorism charges. after trying to join al-qaeda in iraq to fight u.s. troops

coming down but overall this has been a warmer day than what we've gotten used to. unfortunately the cold is making a comeback. with that let's get a check of the accuweather forecast. >> all right, let's head outside to meteorologist melissa magee who is in for adam joe's seven. happy friday at least melissa. >> happy friday to you rick and shirleen. as you mentioned you know it's been tough when we say today when temperatures only are in the 30's it feels like we have a bit of a mild streak on the way. it's been brutal across much of the delaware and lehigh valleys. you could say it's been a brutally cold week with bitter air overhead. the last time we had temperatures above the freezing mark was on monday when we had a high temperature of 50 degrees. tuesday, wednesday and thursday temperatures were only in the teens and 20's and today temperatures did moderate. we climbed up to 36 degrees so far in philadelphia on this friday. outside this afternoon 30's across most locations the exception the poconos coming in at 19 degrees. 31 though, in trenton, 35 in philadelphia. north and west for allentown and reading those temperatures

"action news" reporter david henry is live in mount laurel with more on the investigation. david. >> reporter: yeah, rick, 26-year-old erica crippen crosby lived here with her husband kyle crosby and her two daughters. she has not been seen since just before new year's eve and now he is apparently gone, too. her family is frantic. >> we just trying getter today back home, back to what we know like this is too much, too much. >> reporter: erica was last seen with kyle crosby at this pub in cherry hill the night of december 30th. she posted a profile update on her facebook page later that

night and that's her last post. previously she posted just about every day, several times a day. her husband kyle, last posted on january 2nd saying he needed a babysitter. this wednesday he failed to show up at school to pick up erica's seven-year-old daughter. that's when the family reported her missing. they say she would never leave her kids behind if she up and left. >> she would never do that to her own children. she would never. >> reporter: erica and kyle got married last summer. her friends and family say they later found out he had just recently gotten out of jail. court records show crosby has a lengthy rap sheet for drug offenses and aggravated assault. law enforcement sources say they are also actively looking for crosby. he may be in erica's car a cranbury red ford taurus with primer paint on the front passenger door and fender. the family says the car had been parked outside her home wednesday night when the police showed up to investigate. >> the car was right out

front. i told the officer, i said, i have a bad feeling. every time i go by this car i have a bad feeling that she is in that trunk and y'all check it. we waiting on a search warrant. >> the car is now gone. erica's family is convinced she was killed. when they went into the house wednesday night they found her coat pocketbook and car keys. >> rubber gloves inside the sink. the shower curtain is tore down. there's no sheets on the bed. the house is tore up. the girl don't live like that. >> reporter: i spoke with kyle crosby's mother by phone. she says she has not heard from him since last friday. she says she would like to talk to him and the police would like to talk to him as well. live in mount laurel, david henry, channel6 "action news." shirleen. >> all right, thank you, david. brand new at 4:00 police are investigating the report of a sexual assault in west chester. they released a surveillance picture of the suspect. they say it happened at a home on south walnut street on december 28. the man who lived there told police the suspect broke in

and sexually assaulted him. police say the two men did not know each other. they are asking anyone with information to call them. >> one person is dead after a fiery crash involving a tractor-trailer this morning in northampton county. happened around 5:15 in the westbound lanes of i-78. police say a cargo van caught fire and hit the tractor-trailer which was already stopped because of a previous accident. that 18-wheeler also caught fire and between the wreckage and the flames, the driver of the cargo van could not get out and was killed at the scene. police have not told us the names of anyone involved. the road was closed for about five hours after the wreck. >> family and friends said their final goodbye to shane montgomery today. the funeral for the 21-year-old was kneeled manayunk this morning. montgomery was a west chester university student. he went missing on thanksgiving morning. his body was found last last weekend. police say his death was an accident. he was buried at calvary

stocks fell despite a jobs report that was actually better than expected. then recorder showed u.s. employers added 252,000 jobs in december capping off the best year for hiring in 15 years. the department labor also says the u.s. added 50,000 more jobs in october and november than it previously thought. and the unemployment rate is down to 5.6 percent. that's the lowest since 2008. but there was one piece of bad news in the jobs report and that's what apparently spooked investors. average hourly wages were down by five cents in december. google may be jumping into the car insurance industry. that's according to a report in the new york times today. google has been running a price comparison site for auto insurance in europe. but in the u.s. anyone who runs a site like that would also have to be licensed to sell. the times is reporting google has formed a partnership with compare now.com. it works like a travel site only for car insurance. but the move means google

several days because we climbed above the freezing mark above 32 degrees so, yes, we did have some wind chills to factor in but it wasn't as bad as it was earlier today. we'll show you what's going on on storm tracker 6 live radar we had snow showers early this morning in philadelphia and around the area we saw around .10 to .3. that has moved off shore. look off to the west and we have snow showers, lake effect snow down wind of the eastern great lakes that stays away from our region tonight. it's partly cloudy and turning colder as we get into our friday night. we'll show you the temperatures outside currently in philadelphia still above freezing and at 35 degrees, 31 in trenton. up in the poconos though, temperatures are only in the teens. 19 degrees there. sea isle city 35. lancaster 29 degrees. dover 36. but you look at the wind speeds and they are sustained anywhere from about 7 miles per hour for both beach haven and dover too, as high as 23 miles per hour in lancaster. coming in out of the westerly direction. so, even though we have a westerly wind there's a bit of

a wind chill to factor in. so throughout most of the day even though the air temperature said we were in the 30's it felt like the teens and the 20's. 26 currently is the wind chill in philadelphia. feels like 18 for allentown 19 the current wind chill in reading. poconos only have a wind chill of 10 degrees at this hour. here's satellite6 along with action radar. we had a weak disturbance that moved through earlier today. snow showers quickly racing off to our north and east. on the backside with that westerly wind you have that lake effect snow showers and that activity down wind of the eastern great lakes. here's the setup for us as we go throughout the rest of tonight. it turns partly cloudy and these temperatures will start to drop off once again in the wake of this frontal boundary moving on through. so 9 o'clock tonight that temperature in philadelphia around 24 degrees. the teens once again showing up north and west of town. and as you wake up tomorrow morning, not much in the way of recovery here. temperatures along the 95 corridor in the teens. wind chills early tomorrow morning in the single digits if not subzero in some locations. noon on saturday you could see by the afternoon temperatures are only around 22 degrees

along the 95 corridor, same thing for areas south and east. you have the teens north and west. so a wind chills in philadelphia by tomorrow afternoon will be in the lower teens. the call from accuweather for the rest of tonight we had a brief respite from that colder air but it comes right back as early as tonight. so partly cloudy and sharply colder the single digits north and west. eight for the overnight low in allentown, nine for the overnight low in reading. we'll drop down to 14 degrees in philadelphia and still gusty winds to contend with as high as 25 miles per hour. your four day at 4:00 showing sunny tomorrow but fairly cold once again back down below freezing and at 22 degrees. and on sunday not as harsh, a high temperature of 36. i think sunday for the majority of the day we're going to be dry but late sunday into monday we'll be tracking the system that has the potential of bringing us a wintry mix and changing over to rain and then colder once again behind that. so, it cement like we just can't break out of this pattern where it gets cold, it warms up and then we freeze again. >> okay. thank you melissa.

[gunfire] >> the sound of automatic gunfire pierced the afternoon air as twin hostage situations were diffused. the first happened at a printerring company nearly 30 miles outside of paris. police cornered two brothers accused of carrying out wednesday's massacre at the satirical now charlie hebdo that left 12 dead. cherif and said kouachi were killed when officers stormed the plant. their hostage was freed unharmed. another accused terrorist was

holed up inside a kosher supermarket east of paris. amedy coulibaly threatened to kill his hostages if the brothers weren't allowed to leave freely. investigators say he murdered four innocent people before being killed by police. they say also coulibaly and the female accomplice were responsible for yesterday's shooting death of a policewoman. she is still on the loose. the terror attacks overseas have officials here at home on high alert. "action news" reporter chad pradelli is live outside the philadelphia police academy with that story. chad. >> reporter: shirleen, the philadelphia police department's homeland security unit says it's always on high alert and while there's no heightened threat alert here in the united states, the united states police brass here at the academy say they're always concerned in light of attacks in paris of a copycat crime with disgruntled individuals. the philadelphia police

department's homeland security unit has been watching the attacks in paris unfold with one eye there and one eye at home. >> i always say that i live in a professional state of paranoia. >> reporter: chief inspector joe sullivan oversees the unit. he says he's in regular contact with the fbi. any time an andy at tan unfolds like in france the question here is do the terrorists have connections to the united states. >> at this point we don't have any specific intelligence that would cause concern but in the business that we're in, we live in a state of high alert. >> reporter: a former scholar in residence at lasalle. he says the paris attack seems connected to al-qaeda and isn't a lone wolf attack. he expects more attacks over in europe. >> i think the west is going to have to marshall its nerve it's resolve to fight this adversary. there is no negotiating with the islamists. >> reporter: both sullivan

and turzanski expect al-qaeda to strike again in america. when is unclear. our intelligence deals with this battle every day. >> the other side has to get it right just once. we have to get it right every single day when we're trying to stop them. >> reporter: and more on the attacks -- one of the attacks in paris was on a jewish deli. the jewish federation of philadelphia tells "action news" there needs to be a united voice condemning the attacks in paris and that there needs to be more tolerance globally. i'm live in northeast philadelphia, chad pradelli, channel6 "action news." >> all right thank you chad. world news tonight with david muir will have live team coverage from paris. that includes the latest on the violent end to the hostage situations as well as details on the terror cell the brothers were reportedly part of. that begins right after "action news" after 6:00. >> and now to breaking news out of gloucester county. the police officer who hit and killed a boy in franklin township will not be charged.

prosecutors have determined patrolman nick loss -- nicholas locilento's actions were not criminal. he struck 10-year-old matthew mccloskey who was walking to a sleep overwith friends. locilento's lights and sirens were not on at the time but prosecutors say they were not required to be on at the time either. a carbon monoxide incident sent three people including two children to the hospital this afternoon. happened on the 800 block of east ontario street in philadelphia's kensington section. fire officials say an adult man a young girl and a young boy were overcome by fumes just before 2:00 p.m. all are expected to be okay. officials have not released details yet about the source of the fumes. police are searching for the gun plan who shot a man in the parking lot of a wal-mart in northeast philadelphia. it happened around 1:00 a.m. outside a philadelphia mills mall which was formerly franklin mills mall. police say the 26-year-old victim was shot about 75 feet

from the front door. the store was opened for business at the time. investigators say the victim had arranged to meet a person who may have ode him -- owed him money. police say they are close to identifying the gun plan. the victim remains in guarded condition. >> turning to their accuweather forecast. even though the weather is a little less fright full we aren't anywhere near a warmup. in fact this is what the delaware river in trenton looked like one year ago to the day an ice jam triggered by the 2014 polar vortex and this is what the same river looks like today. though the temperatures may not be as bitter as last january they're still low enough to freeze the flow. so, it can always be worse. >> a little bit of relief today but it's only temporary. >> yeah, that's right. temperatures today were in the 30's. so that's nice. we all remember last year, right, wind chills were in the single digits. that was tough. so the good news in that regard it gets a little better outside. let's show you the pictures. sky 6 live in hd of the center city skyline on this friday afternoon as we look at

philadelphia here, that temperature at 35, the dewpoint at 11, winds out of the west-northwest at 17 miles per hour making us feel like we've got a wind chill of 25 degrees. so temperatures across the midatlantic region, you have the 30's and 40's along the 95 corridor but off to our north and west just the teens for buffalo and pittsburgh, charleston, west virginia that temperature coming in at 29 degrees. so we'll tap into a piece of that colder air as early as tonight and into the weekend. if you're stepping out on the town temperatures along the 95 corridor will be in the teens later on tonight when you factor in there wind chill. the single digits north and west and as you wake up tomorrow morning look at these wind chill numbers. in the single digits. it will feel like 3 degrees early tomorrow morning in philadelphia and below zero from the poconos, 12 below to five below zero in lancaster with that temperature at 8:00 a.m. not much of a recovery as we get into saturday afternoon. we'll take a look at those chilly numbers with the accuweather forecast. layer up. >> wow. >> oh. >> okay some weekend. have said the comedian slipped something into their drink before assaulting them. a three-year-old california girl is back home today following a frightening kidnapping attempt overnight. the los angeles county sheriff's department says the child was asleep in her bed when a man pulled off her window screen and grabbed her. fortunately the girl's father heard the commotion and ran after the suspect. family members joined in the chase and got the child back. she was shaken up but otherwise okay. officials say the suspect had no connection to the child and the kidnapping attempt was random. >> elsewhere in california we are happy to report that the mystery of the sewer snake has been solved. yesterday we told you about a woman who sent out to unclog a toilet in her office building but instead of excess paper she found a five and a half foot boa constrictor: the snake was removed from the pipe while officials tried to figure out how he ended up in the plumbing. the reptile belonged to a resident one floor above the

temperature in philadelphia. so something to look forward to and nothing celebrate today. we were above freezing. 4 degrees shy of average although when you factor in the wind chills today, temperatures were feeling like we were in the teens and 20's. 35 currently in philadelphia, 30 in allentown, same thing in reading, 19 up in the poconos 34 in sea isle city. 36 degrees in dover. but those winds are still constant out of the westerly direction sustained anywhere from 8 miles per hour to as high as 23 miles per hour in lancaster so when you factor in the wind chill feels like 15 in lancaster, feeling like nine in the poconos, 26 the current wind chill number in philadelphia and it feels like 27 for both atlantic city and sea isle city. here's satellite 6 along with action radar. things are starting to dry out and it turns partly cloudy and clear for the rest of tonight. in fact, clear skies will make things feel much colder. in fact, as you wake up tomorrow morning check out some of the lowest wind chills we are expecting along the 95 corridor, areas to the south and east, anywhere from five below to as much as zero and

three terror suspects were dead, two were suspects in the killing at the charlie hebdo newspaper earlier this week. it is friday night and the big story on "action news" is the end of a deadly standoff that ended with the killings of three alleged terrorists and also claimed the lives of four hostages. >> it unfolded at two separated locations. one of the women suspected have having a roll in the standsoff is on the run. >> hi rick and mon today. police say this woman was an accomplice in one of the standsoffs with police today. she is believed to escaped during all the commotion and is said to be on the run. so three suspects dead and this person still wanted for questioning. but remarkable developments today in this massive manhunt. it came to a very violent end and there were two tense standsoffs. the first at this printerring company nearly 30 miles outside of paris. police cornered the two brother that is police say carried out wednesday's massacre is the satirical newspaper charlie member do.
