victim kim jones of north philadelphia. she became philadelphia's 14th homicide victim of the year this morning. jones a social worker was gunned down just after 9:00 as she waited for a septa bus at 12th and jefferson to go to her job at a nonprofit center city agency part of her normal routine. police say a gunman appeared out of nowhere and shot her once in the back of the head. >> we do not believe it was a robbery attempt at all. she had headphones on, she had her purse her cell phone, she had jewelry on none of which was taken, none of which was disturbed so we don't believe -- we knew she was targeted for whatever reason. we don't believe it was a robbery. >> reporter: she was the mother of two adult children. she lived about a half block from the bus stop for most of her life. her long time neighbors are in shock. >> who was her enemy? because this is a quiet neighborhood and i can't figure that out and then when i found out that up on the corner on that bus i didn't know who it was until i talked with one of the police. >> reporter: the manhunt continues tonight. police are interviewing her family members trying to get a

lead on who the killer is and a possible motive. tonight police say they're gathering surveillance video from around this neighborhood adjacent to temple university. it is incidentally the standard $20,000 reward from the city is posted for key information in solving this murder case. live in north philadelphia, vernon odom, channel6 "action news." >> vernon thank you very much. mount laurel man is now charged in the death of his wife who disappeared two weeks ago. 28-year-old kyle crosby is being held today on $1.2 million bail. police say evidence links him to erica crippen crosby's murder even though her body is still missing. she was last seen with her husband at a cherry hill restaurant around new year's. "action news" is in court for crosby's first appearance this afternoon. prosecutors just revealed he was captured on surveillance in maryland and delaware over the last five days. david henry is in the courtroom. he'll have much more in a live

report tonight at 5:00. >> reporter: brand new after 4 o'clock a chester county teacher is accused of having sex with one of her students. sara o'neill teaches at the church farm school in exton. police say she started the relationship with one of her students a year ago when he was just 16. police say they know at least four separate incidents with the same student. o'neill is due in court now next month. >> new jersey governor chris christie gave his annual state of the state address today and this time the audience for his address was a lot bigger than just the garden state. new jersey correspondent nora muchanic is live at the statehouse in trenton and nora, there's a lot of speculation about a white house run but today christie touted his work here at home. >> reporter: absolutely, shirleen, he did that in a speech that had no surprises and didn't really cover any new ground. but he also broadened his speech out about new jersey to some national themes for an audience of politicos fundraisers and voters across the country who are eyeing him as a potential gop

presidential candidate. governor christie offered his outlook on new jersey before a joint session legislature touting his achievements by holding the line on taxes and reducing government. >> we did it by cutting spending, we did it by shrinking government and by fundamentally reforming the way government operates. >> reporter: christie spent time touting advancements in policing and education in camden that he says are turning the city around. >> a city that has suffered is now seeing a new tomorrow. $600 million of private investment in camden in the last year alone. >> reporter: the governor called for renewed commitment and made a veiled joke about his possible run for president. >> when we stand here in one year, by the way i'll be standing here in one year -- [laughter] (applause). >> for some reason i see less applause on this side of the room. i don't understand. >> reporter: the governor was putting a good face on what's been a bad year for him at home.

new jersey has a troubled economy and high unemployment, a fun fund to build roads and bridges is about to go home and his poll numbers are plummeted. protesters picketed before the speech calling attention to the real state of the state. >> you can't spend your way out of the fact that new jersey is 49th in terms of job development, we're leading the way in terms of four closure and poverty. >> for all intents and purposes the governor has left new jersey. he's looking to run for higher office and we in new jersey we're suffering as a result of it. >> reporter: back live now by the way if there's any doubt about who the governor is trying to appeal to he held a private briefing before the speech before national reporters. much new jersey press was not invited. democratic president steve sweeney called this a state of the state about nothing. more reaction from the statehouse coming up at 6:00 for now we're live in trenton nora muchanic channel6 "action news." >> interesting local reporters were left out of the room.

a main stay on the philadelphia council says this will be her last term in o the 77-year-old made headlines this year as the chair woman of the philadelphia gas commission. it was her decision not to hold hearings on the proposed sale of pgw. that sale now off the table as a result. meanwhile there will be a special election to fill a seat in pennsylvania's house of representatives. brendan boyle retired from the legislature because he won a seat in the u.s. house. now voters in his old district will head to the polls on march 24th to pick a replacement. boyle's district included abington township and rockledge as well as a part of philadelphia. >> the french satirical newspaper charlie hebdo set to publish its first issue since the terrorist attack. here's a look at the cover will that will come out tomorrow on a more than record 3 million issues. it features a caricature of

the prophet muhammad weeping and holding a sign which translated says i am charlie with the words all is for given in top in french n israel four jewish victims were laid to rest. thousands attended the emotional funeral including the president. the president paid tribute to the three police officers killed in the attacks. meanwhile authorities in bulgar ya' say they have arrested a french man believed to have links to one of the suspects. this as authorities in france hunter for other members of the terrorist cell involved. they believe that the threat is imminent because as many as six members could still be at large and that includes the woman you see right there. hayat boumeddiene. the widow of one of the suspects who was gunned down by police. turkish officials say she is now in isis territory in syria. the country has deployed 10000 troops to protect

sensitive sites including jewish schools and neighborhoods. meanwhile back here in the united states, airport screeners have been ordered to increase random searches of passengers and carry on luggage. the warning comes over concerns that the terrorist group behind the attacks in paris may be plotting to take down planes here at home. shirleen. >> all right alicia. police are looking for the man behind a violent robbery in mayfair. this is the guy they're after. you can see he approaches another man then punches him and takes off with a mac book laptop. it happened back on christmas eve at the 7-eleven in the 2900 block of cottman avenue. police say the victim went to the store to sell the laptop after placing an ad on craigslist. they say the laptop was worth $2,500. >> well, accuweather said it would be cold out there today and they nailed it. >> yes, because it's cold out there. let's go outside to meteorologist melissa magee in for adom joseph and she's all bundled up. >> yes, i was firsthand witness to the cold air we've been dealing with.

it is brisk and chill eight and winds out of the north side today. we were waking up this morning on the chilly side. temperatures were in the single digits and the teens. morning wind chill in reading down to 5 degrees. 13 for both trenton and philadelphia. up to 16 in wilmington. atlantic city morning wind chill coming in at 20 degrees and not much of a recovery this afternoon. wind chills along the 95 corridor in the teens and the 20's. 20 in philadelphia. feels like 19 in trenton nine however, in the poconos and in lancaster off to the west it feels like 16. storm tracker 6 live double scan radar shows you there's an area of low pressure off the coast of the carolinas and this will skirt off to our north and east. as it works its way north and eastward there could be a few more snow showers for part of our region tomorrow. lows tonight will be in the teens. we're tracking those snow showers mainly south of the city for wednesday. but the good news, temperatures are near 50 as we get into sunday. we'll talk about all of those details coming up with the full and exclusive accuweather forecast. >> looking forward to that. thank you melissa. from our delaware news

room the state's only all girls charter school is another step closer to closing. a federal judge is refusing to issue an injunction to keep the reach academy for girls in new castle opened. the judge ruled that attorneys for the charter school have not shown they would likely win legal claims against the state department of education. the judge issued an injunction last year keeping reach opened. supporters of the predominantly black school say the students are victims of gender and racial discrimination. >> still ahead here today, atlantic city tried to expand beyond gambling. the plan city leaders announced today with the hopes of bringing in new business. >> new details on a brutal terror attack. the horrifying accounts about the group that reportedly killed thousands of people. >> ♪♪

base. they began system mickly killing people in all the nearby villages. there are reports they used three children as human bombs. amnesty international says there are reports there are as many as 2,000 people dead. witnesses say the real number could be in the hundreds instead. >> divers have recovered the second black box of the air asia plane that crashed into the java sea. crews found the cockpit voice recorder last night but were able to retrieve it from the some 100 feet of water this morning. that find comes one day after divers found the other black box, the flight data recorder. all of that information could give investigators the clues they need to figure out what brought that plane down. there are 162 people on board. >> the children of martin luther king jr. spent the day in court fighting over two of the civil rights' leaders prized possessions. a judge deciding who should take ownership of king's bible and 1964 nobel peace prize.

afternoon it's especially a game along south street is the schuylkill expressway because once again as, see our traffic lights are today. they don't like the cold weather or something. they were out yesterday afternoon got them ticketed for the morning commute but now they're out again its every driver for him or herself. take it easy as you enter the schuylkill expressway at south street. watching a crash at front and ontario this afternoon. speeds in the teens along 95 in the great northeast. crash and vehicle fire near kennett square along route 1 baltimore pike at route 52. a couple water main breaks in south jersey this afternoon. one is in moorestown burlington county blocking off main street near chester avenue. you can use central avenue to get around that and chestnut street is blocked chester avenue gives you an alternate around chestnut street. in brooklawn another water main break is taking out the left lane along 130 northbound side approaching browning road there close to the brooklawn circle. and down in delaware watch out for police activity watching

you might have been finding a few flurries or snow showers. it's all about the temperatures today. outside across the delaware and lehigh valleys we're in the lower 30's, upper 20's. 27 in allentown, 30 in philadelphia, same thing for atlantic city. wildwood dover coming in at 31, 26 in lancaster but you factor in those winds today they're coming in out of the north-northeast sustained from 9 miles an hour to 15 in philadelphia which is why we had wind chills this morning in the single digits and the teens. and this afternoon we are still in the teens north and west of town. feelings like 16 in reading and twenty degrees is the current feels-like number in philadelphia. the current wind chill in wildwood down the shore and at 21, 22 in dover. here's satellite6 along with action radar you can see a few more clouds starting to drift northward. thanks to this area of low pressure just off the coast of the carolinas. there's really not a lot of precipitation with this, just some light rain showers right now moving across areas in the carolinas. the low skirts off to our north and east. as it works its way north and

"action news" reporter sarah bloomquist is live in doylestown with more on the school's decision. sarah. >> reporter: shirleen the central bucks school administration is already recommended that mary kate blank ken burg lose her job as a guidance counselor at cb west. tonight the school board will vote on that recommendation many people we have been talk to go in doylestown this

afternoon seem to think she should face consequences especially given the nature of her job. 37-year-old mary kate is likely to be out of the job as a guidance counselor at central bucks west high school. it's all because of a threat authorities now say she's admited to posting on her private facebook page and she posted the message december 7th threatening to shoot protesters staging a so-called die in if they stopped her son from getting to the eagles game. the message read if my child cannot get to the eagles game due to protesters, i will personally shoot every one of them. you've been warned idiots. she first told a newspaper she hadn't posted the message but a child may have done it on her ipad while she was teaching sunday school. but later she admitted to detectives she created the post. the montgomery county district attorney called the post ill advised but decided the threat doesn'ty didn't rise to the level of a crime. tonight she faces different consequences when the central

bucks school board votes on her termination. in doylestown this afternoon people said they think firing her is the only option for the district. >> i just think if you're going put it out there, you have to think before you put it onto social media no matter what it is. >> >> when you take on a job like that you have responsibilities. you can't say stuff like that. >> yarr counseling children you should be even more cautious of what you're postingline definitely, yeah. >> reporter: now we reached out to the superintendent and assistant told us he will will not be talking publicly on this matter until after the school board's vote tonight. live in doylestown, i'm sarah bloomquist, channel6 "action news." >> sarah thank you very much. a terrible accident in fairmount park sent two young men to the hospital this morning. this was the scene along kelly drive near brewery hill drive just before 9:00 a.m. witnesses tell "action news" the driver of a toyota corolla veered into the path of a silver mitsubishi. those cars collided head on.

they were then hit by a red toyota matrix. the 24-year-old man in the corolla had to be cut from the car. he was rushed to the hospital with head and hip injuries. the 25-year-old man in the mitsubishi was less seriously injured. he's being treated for a leg injury. the driver estimate tricks -- of the matrix was not hurt. two children were among those trapped in delaware. a jeep and a sedan collided near maryland avenue. two adults two kids in the sedan were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. the driver of the jeep was not hurt. the cause is still under investigation. >> philadelphia police have released surveillance video of a violent robbery in university city last month. cameras caught the hooded suspect forsing the radio shack employee into the back of a south 40th street store on december 11. once in the storage room the men took turns assaulting him f there the suspects put on radio shack shirts and hauled

several boxes outside. police say they got away with at least $8,000 in merchandise. police are also looking for help identifying two men who held up a cell phone store in south philadelphia. this is video from inside the cellular express and repairs on the 1800 block of washington avenue back on january 6th. you can see the suspects raid the register, then force a worker into the back to open that safe. the gunman left the store after stealing several iphones from the display case. if you have any information on either robbery call philadelphia police. >> the four-year-old daughter of cincinnati bengals player devon still is still battling stage four cancer and that's not the news the family had hoped for. after extensive treatment at children's hospital of philadelphia doctors say leah still's cancer has not been eradicated. her dad took to instagram over the weekend writing quote i couldn't even bring myself to tell my family the results without breaking down but i understand that blessings
