>> good morning, it is 6:00 a.m. on this sunday, january 18, 2015 here's what's happening on "action news." storm tracker 6 live double scan live shows a steady soaking moving into the area. meteorologist chris sowers has the overnight update. a man and woman are shot inside a home in philadelphia's frankford section. we have details from police working on this case. millions of people flock to pope francis final mass in the philippines. hear what one girl said that left the pontiff almost speechless. chris sowers has the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. rain today.

>> reporter: we have rain today fortunately it arrived today and not yesterday because yesterday was so cold it would have been snow. let's get you outside there's the center city skyline. it's quiet right now but we have moisture moving into delaware and south jersey. it will make for a miserable finish to the weekend. we'll flipped over to satellite and radar, you can see how small, how tiny this band is, this is a developing coastline storm, usually these coastline storms stretch for hundreds of miles. you can see how tiny of a band it is. it is going to make a beeline toward the delaware valley. it will provide us with quite a bit of wet weather from start to finish. the heaviest will move in after 10:00 a.m. or so. that will linger through the first part of the afternoon. here's the good news, most of

the temperatures, especially south and east are above freezing, at this point. you go north north and west we have numbers below 32. we could have icy patches north and west. for the others it will be a rain event. 42 in millville. 46 in atlantic beach haven and 48 in relies. periods of rain throughout the morning hours and heavy anticipate steady in the afternoon. we're anticipating a high of 44 when all is said and done, there could flooding in poor drainage aerials i'll talk about and the possibility of light snow by midweek. that's ahead in the seven-day forecast in ten minutes. >> chris thank you. a woman and woman are fighting for their lives right now both shot in a roam overnight in philadelphia's frankford section. police are looking for three

masked men responsible for the shooting. it happened on the 1500 block of adams avenue, the man was shot in the face, the woman was shot in the stomach. she stumbled out of the home and collapsed on the street a block away. both victims are hospitalized in critical condition. it's unclear what led up to the gunfire. the action cam was in philadelphia's tacony section police closed off state road at long shore avenue because of a service line break. the water department was called to cut off the water and begin repairs. the service line feeds one address in that area. avoid state road and long shore avenue in tacony. a mother is charged with setting had your newborn on fire and watched her child burn. we are learning about what the mother said before the tragedy. vernon odem brings us the full

story. >> reporter: this is hyphernkemberly dovilier, the 22-year-old woman is in prison charged with killing her newborn baby by setting her on fire. >> was a mind boggling thing. >> reporter: joseph said he looked out the window and saw something on fire. they saw a woman standing there. she allegedly told them she was burning dog waste he found in the vehicle. he told her to put it out. >> she put it out and grabbed a bottle of water and my wife was down there and said it was a baby. >> reporter: the family held her and called police. hyphernkemberly dovilier was arrested. the child was flown by helicopter to saint christopher's hospital in philadelphia where the newborn lost its battle for life. >> it was a bad scene it's mind boggling how anybody could

do that to a baby, to a newborn. >> reporter: as world of the atrocity spread through pemberton, residents reacted with horror. >> a lot of sick people in the world, but that baby didn't have a chance. >> i have five grandchildren this morning i gave them a held. i can't fathom what what was going through her headed to that. >> reporter: hyphernkemberly dovilier is in prison this morning her bail set at half a million dollars. teenagers cooled in a multistate -- accused in multistate crime scene are behind bars. they were wanted for forging checks and stealing two suvs. authorities think their travels

took them to south carolina to georgia. dalton hayes burglar. "g.m.a." will have more on the run coming up up after this newscast. crews worked through the night to repair a water main break that made it a tough weekend for guests. the ruptured main cut off water to the hotel. power at the hotel was out for a short period of time but has been restored. police blocked the street of the repair work. it is back open at this time, 90% of the hotel rooms are filled. some of the guests took the hotel's offer to move them to other hotels, but most decided to stay. at the "action news" big

welcome back on this sunday, 6:12 36 degrees, sky6 live hd looking live at philadelphia international airport. we were just there in the wee hours of the morning after getting back from vacation. >> it feels colder now. i'm doing a show with you these guys, i want you to realize the size of the bullet we are dodging here. if this happened yesterday, we would have picked up 16 inches of snow. the cold air is actual restreet at this point and the rain is moving in. we'll see rain out of this not snow. there could be a brief period of icing north and west of the city. maybe it lasts a half our -- hour or so. the brief icing will be very

very brief. a couple of showers popping up across south jersey. every now and then we see yellow representing heavier downpours. millville reporting moderate rain. same thing for southern portions of salem county and the delaware bay region. this is the heavy stuff down here, across eastern portions of virginia through richmond and norfolk all of that, we'll push east nor'easter over the next 3 to 6 hours or so. it should get into philadelphia the heaviest and steadiest by 10:00 a.m. wilmington at freezing mark 32. look at millville 42. wildwood, 36. dover, 39. milder ocean air is pulling toward the northwest. all this air is moving southeast to northwest, it will overspread the entire delaware valley over the next several hours or so. that's why we're seeing rain with this and not snow.

we have a cold front approaching from the west, this that batch of -- this little batch of moisture. we're looking at a perhaps a 4 to 6 hour event where we'll see the steady, soaking rain. later this afternoon it's probably cloudy and damp. here's future tracker 6 i'll show you what i am talking about. right now we're not seeing anything, a little bit of moisture to the south. by 10:00 a.m. look at the yellows on the maps. that's the heavy rain spreading from dover into philadelphia and trenton and new york city. that will continue through the morning hours into the first part of the afternoon. note the shift the far western suburbs, allentown lancaster it might not do anything at all it's raining in sheets across south jersey. it's a tight exacted storm system. by 3 4:00 p.m. it's gone. we'rewe're looking at mainly cloudy

skies. rainfall totals, .13 of an inch in allentown and an inch and a half in atlantic city. today's risk, the icing risk is minor, but there's the risk north and west of the city. heavy rain, high risk for that, poor drainage flooding in particular, there will be a moderate risk across the south jersey and delaware, gusty winds and coastal flooding we won't see that, as well. this is a rainmaker for philadelphia. 44 for philadelphia, 44 wilmington millville 48. atlantic city and cape may closing in on 50 degrees. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast 40 degrees tomorrow, turning windy the 40 will feel like the upper 20s and low 030s with that wind. increasing clouds, tuesday 32.

>> reporter: welcome back everyone, 6:23 sunday morning we're looking at storm tracker 6 live double scan. we are starting to see the freezing drizzle along the i-95 corridor from wilmington through philadelphia and into trenton. everyone north of this line here temperatures are still below freezing. now, we'll see the temperatures moderate over the next couple of hours, but right now there's a minor icing threat for areas north and west. south and east we're seeing the rain in salem county. route 1, we could have patchy ice out there and freezing drizzle. if it's shiny it's iced over. take it ease. in salem, and cumberland county, this is rain, all rain at times temperatures in the 40s. all this is moving southwest to

sky6 live hd looking live right now at wilmington, delaware a steady soaking rain and a brief period of icing in parts that's what to expect in the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast today. new overnight wilmington police are combing for clues in a murder investigation. >> president obama is set to call the elimination of a tax break in his state of union address. >> first meteorologist chris sowers joins us with another preview of the accuweather forecast. >> reporter: it's going to be dreary out there today. let's go live on sky 6. we're expecting quite a bit of rainfall across south jersey and delaware, north and west we'll see lighter amounts. but we have another issue north and west, it's in the form of ice because temperatures are below the freezing mark. we are seeing specks of drizzle.

flip it over to storm tracker 6 live double can you can see the blue running up and down the i-95 corridor into trenton. bryn mawr, wynnewood propertying freezing drizzle. south and east we go, cumberland and salem counties we're seeing temperatures a little bit milder note that little speck of blue in gloucester county, maybe freezing drizzle for places like glassboro and deptford and belmawr points north. malaga bridgeton bay side, cedarville, gandys beach millville, reporting rain, some of us coming down steadily and heavy at times again the magic number is 32 degrees. once we get above 32 we won't see any precipitation freezing on area roads. south jersey above freezing, below freezing temperatures north and west. over the next couple of hours the northwest suburbs will go

above freezing, this will be a rain event. maybe an hour hour and half's worth of freezing drizzle that's about it. here's the heavy rain we're expecting. you can see the yellows and orangeses and the reds starting to gather across richmond, virginia. that expands northeastward over the next several hours push you pushing into the hart of the delaware valley. it will make for a miserable afternoon. periods of rain, heavy at times shooting for a high of 44 degrees, we're above average the normal is 41. wind out of the northwest at 5 to 10 miles per hour. day planner take your pick it will be raining all day. 8:00 a.m., 35, periods of rain. 10:00 a.m., same thing. 1:00 p.m., 42. more rain heavy at times. 4:00 p.m., most of the rain at that point will be winding down, most of the roads will be wet and you will see ponding at that point. later this afternoon, this pushes up into new england we'll see colder temperatures move in to start the new

christiana hospital. the man behind the wheel of the jeep is in stable condition. officers are trying to determine if the woman had been drinking. new this morning a man is in critical condition after getting hit by an suv in southwest philadelphia. the action cam is at the scene the 5300 block of baltimore avenue. the woman driving the vehicle sailed the victim was lying on street when she was hit at 1:45. the man was dragged a half block from the driver stopped. so far police have not filed any charges. the search continues for a person who murdered a well respected father of four in hunting park. family members and friends gathered to remember bernard ray. it was there on the night of january 4th, ray was shot while dropping off passengers in his taxi. police say it was a robbery attempt. his father spoke at the vigil. >> my son was a very peaceful person and giving person. he loved his friends he loved his family, he loved his

32 degrees, what a day for a polar plunge. true polar plunge yesterday. as we look at penns landing this morning, it's quiet out there but we're seeing patchy freezing drizzle develop along the i-95. with heavy rains across portions of south jersey. let's flip it over to storm tracker 6 live double scan. green representing rain, the blue shades representing freezing drizzle. we'll zoom into gloucester county and the immediate philadelphia area. when you see that blue it's the freezing drizzle. what do i mean by that, it's raining, but the rain is freezing on contact with the grounds because the ground is below freezing. gloucester county we're picking up freezing drizzle. media through philadelphia running parallel to inter state i-95 we're picking up freezing drizzle. south and east it's rain, some of it is coming down heavy across cumberland county. bridgeton, millville moderate rain.
