ck county up to the lehigh valley not much going on the dry air is fighting the storm and west of that in berks and chester, light snow but we see an intense band of snow south of philadelphia and interior southern new jersey that pushed through parts of interior southern delaware we look at double scan live radar up towards malvern, in norristown and quakertown and trenton and milford, light snowflakes at times barely coating the ground at 222 in reading and really where the meat of the storm has been where we talked about yesterday in southern new jersey and delaware, where most of the snow totals coming in you can see the bright, pink areas in millville and 49 north and mays landing
4:01 pm
and hammonton and ocean and burlington county, we see snowfall rates of snow up to 2 inches an hour, the band moves in and then moves out so it's a quick 1 to 2 inches from smyrna to dover and it pushes to the east. as we go the evening rush hour, philadelphia is down to a mile and a half and as you lift to the north a better evening commute but a half file from atlantic city and millville. as we go to meteorologist cecily tynan the air temperatures are critical. >> the temperatures are falling once the sunsets and temperatures across the board at or below freezing 35 degrees and wildwood 32 and wilmington 30 degrees, that is why this is
4:02 pm
in fact falling as snow, here is what to expect. it's not the amount of snow it's the timing it's really timed around the evening commute tonight there is slippery roads especially the bridges and overpasses and the main roads are treated really well, especially around philadelphia and it's a fast moving system and will be out of here at midnight and temperatures drop down to the 20s in the overnight hour, could have a bit of drizzle and that means we could see areas of black ice overnight and during the morning commute on the untreated surfaces. you want to be careful. the national weather service has the winter weather advisory for philadelphia and areas to the south until 11:00 for light snow, most is south of philadelphia allentown and poconos is missing out on the snow event. north of philadelphia, you are not getting much, a coating to
4:03 pm
perhaps an inch, but i'm leaning towards the lower end philadelphia 1 to 2 inches south though this is where we see the heaviest snow accumulation, heavy being a relative word, 2 to 3 inches but that could be an appetizer for the weekend, adam will talk about that in the full accuweather forecast. >> we have a team of reporters in the area showing us conditions in the region lets continue our coverage with john rawlins he is in chester county and live in chadds ford. hi there john. >> hi there shirleen we are getting off to a slow start. no accumulation at this point this is northbound route 202 behind me here. i think you can safely say that unlike sunday here, drives are not having many problems so far no impact. >> by noon time, hours before
4:04 pm
the first flake was suppose to fall, salt trucks were loaded in on stand by on routes 30 and 202 and penndot said they would have 300 trucks out this evening the biggest concern was not accumulation but the predicted timing of the snowfall, expected to come during the congestion of rush hour that could slow the progress of trucks and add to headaches. >> it makes our job higher our trucks have to go with the speed of traffic, you get on routes like the schuylkill expressway and the blue route and we are pretty much at a crawl and that is the rate we can spread salt. >> the ace hardware stocked with storm items like salt to salt spreaders and shovels and plenty of sleds in case this big hill here becomes covered in white. >> a huge hill for kids,
4:05 pm
hundreds. kid kids coming down this, we do well with sleds. >> nobody breaking out the sleds yet route 202 running well and so far no accumulation but that could change. >> all right thank you. as cecily mentions parts of south jersey will see some of the heaviest snow today. that is where our new jersey correspondent, nora muchanic is today. live in hammonton hi nora? >> just little flakes then and now big wet fat flakes falling, this is bellevue avenue the main drag through hammonton. the people here are ready for the few inches expected to fall. the front window of our expressions florist in hammonton

4:07 pm
6:00 to drive home from medford and maybe the ice. >> i have a snow blower and a shovel and i have rock salt and my daughter who does the snow blowing because i don't know how to do this. >> we are ready and stock up in december and prepare ourselves for the winter the snowy mix is coming and we have shovels and rock salt and anything you need to get through it. >> we are live here in bellevue on hammonton avenue. it's not sticking on the streets but it's sticking on the bushes if we think about it we can't complain. mother nature has been very, very kind to us. nora muchanic, channel 6 "action news." >> nora, thank you. lets head outside, mobile 6 giving us a live look on 95 south on the approach to 476 people are tapping the brakes and it's starting to backup as the snow intensifies.

4:14 pm
shows his hands in front of him and he is killed by the officers local activists say that this is clearly excessive force. >> jerome reed complied to the officer's demand and got out of the car and he received a hail of bullets. the altercation began with a traffic stop and reed had a criminal record and was arrested for drugs and resisting arevelants last year. they want the cumberland prosecutor removed from the case and demanding that the state attorney general handle the probe, they are promising a fair and thorough grand jury investigation, they say that this video shows a pattern of police brutality in bridgeton. >> it gives a face to an atmosphere that exists here every day. when you guys leave this atmosphere will still be there and these people will still be

4:20 pm
starts to develop east of the atlantic city, that is why southern new jersey and delaware is getting most of the heavy snow during this storm. as we press in closer on double scan live, north and west of philadelphia, it's just really light snow showers coating the ground and starting to pile up south of glassboro and parts of delaware, that bright pink in buena, and west of there in bridgeton all the way to the atlantic city expressway towards hammonton this area is 1 to 2 inches of snow per hour and that continues to lift to the north and east right along 206 and head towards burlington county and speedwell and makes its way to the east and long beach island. as we look at the photos coming in on social media we are there on facebook and twitter, i am tweeting and facebooking all day, here at smyrna anna sent
4:21 pm
this in a nice coating of snow and in fact smyrna that is some of the locations that have seen the most snow so far about an inch in parts of kent county and dover a half inch so far and woodside .5 inches. yesterday we were saying it's not going to be a lot of snow but it's the timing and with temperatures falling below freezing across the board here most of the surfaces are wet but the southern areas even untreated surfaces that snow is piling up and with temperatures below freezing it will turn hard and icy underneath. as we look at satellite and radar taking shape as the energy continues to pass through as we look at future tracker 6 the heavy snow continues south and east of philadelphia lighter and more scattered to the north and west.
4:22 pm
and at 10:00 tonight, still some energy trying to ripple through, and there could be one last gasp of snow showers north and west of philadelphia to coat the ground and by midnight everything is out of here and the clouds linger the bridges and ramps and overpasses are the first to cover and then the secondary roads and things could ice up. as we look at totals from allens town to buck county a coating or so near philadelphia and again that band to the south wilmington millville to atlantic city 2 to 3 inches of snow in total. your four day at 4:00 tomorrow melting snow around here with some sun and temperature as above average at 42 and lots of sun on friday and looking good at 40 and a sizable storm could come on friday with snow, sleet and rain and 36 and much brighter come sunday at 40 degrees we'll have more on the
