and in the news a baby hospitalized after an attack by some household pets, police say that the 1-month-old was mauled by ferrets and an 11-month-old girl was killed in a car crash on east oak lane. but the big story on "action news" this noon is a nor'easter bringing snow and rain to our area. lets look outside at sky 6 hd in center city. dry conditions now but that will change by this evening and we'll wake up for a wintery mess tomorrow just in time for the weekend. so what is expect and how much. we have live team coverage with eva pilgram, she has the latest on how the folks are preparing for snow but lets begin with meteorologist, melissa magee live at the big board with the latest. >> reporter: hi there rick we are tracking the precipitation that moves in later tonight and in time for the start of our weekend and ahead of that precipitation we have temperatures in the 30s and lower 40s and 41 in

philadelphia and 33 in allentown and 38 in wilmington and along the coast in wildwood coming in at 39 degrees, later on tonight the conditions drop and temperatures drop and that leads to the wintry precipitation we are tracking. the national weather service posted the advisory lasting until saturday morning and for some expiring saturday afternoon for areas north and west, we are expecting snow, sleet and mixed precipitation and difficult travel as well. here is stormtracker 6 live double scan this is the moisture off to the south and west, in fact the area of low pressure off the southern gulf states all the moisture is coming from a southwest to northeast direction tracker 6 will time out the precipitation, 6:00 this evening, if you are stepping out on the town it looks to be mostly dry, no issues for your drive home or if are you stepping out this evening. after midnight the mixed

precipitation rushes back in and continues tomorrow morning at 3:30 in the morning. we'll talk about the nor'easter and the timeline we are expecting and the arrival of the precipitation from a north-south direction from 9:00 until midnight and then the steady of the of that precipitation. until 3:00 in the afternoon the snow ends and the mixed precipitation ends from a seestd direction. we'll take a closer look at stormtracker 6 live double scan when we come back. all of those details coming up with the full and exclusive accuweather forecast. now, lets head out to "action news" reporter, eva pilgram king of prussia, montgomery county where residents and businesses are getting ready. >> reporter: this winter weather is not expected until the overnight but penndot is getting ready for whatever mother nature throws our way since last night to make sure we are ready to get on the roads.

>> we hope to have our state and contractor trucks positioned tonight loaded with salt so when the snow enters the region and we'll start salting until the morning while the snow continues to fall. >> they brined the roadways and now in montgomery and buck county. the state is already planning to put all of its salt strucks on the road starting tonight when the snow rolls in area municipalities will make the call as to how many independent contractors will be on the road. >> driving conditions can be challenging so my advice is slow down. just give yourself plenty of time, you can reduce your travel speeds during inclem ent weather. >> if you do have to travel tomorrow morning can you head to 511pa.com to check on the

without saying that this is a real horror story a house pet nearly killing a 1-month-old child who was down stairs alone in a child seat. p the couple has five children and the 1-month-old was attacked by the ferrets that were kept in a cage. it bit off 25% of the child's face and the parents were upstairs when the attack occurred. the four other children are in custody of child youth services. the child is in chop after life saving surgery and neighbors along this block are shocked. >> it's shocking to hear stuff like that, because they are very nice and loving family. >> that is terrible. how is she doing? is she in bad shape? >> extensionve surgery.

>> expected to survive. >> that is a real shame. they are like what you see here from the weasel family legal to own in the state of pennsylvania. the child is expected to survive earlier but will need years and years of corrective surgery on her face, she is getting assistance to breathe through her nose. live in darby vernon odom, channel 6 "action news." all right thank you. an 11-year-old girl was killed in a two-car crash on east oak lane, chopper 6 hd was over the scene of cheltenham avenue and old york road, the driver of a ford mustang crossed the lane and hit on coming traffic, the girl who was a passenger and injured when a minivan slammed into the car she was rushed to

the hospital and was pronounced dead. her mother was the driver of the musz standing. >> as of this point we don't see impairment issues or alcohol or drug issues, we are looking to see what caused this horrific crash. >> the driver of the minivan was not seriously injured. several vehicles struck and killed a man walking on a delaware highway and none of the drivers stopped. it happened after 8:00 along the northbound lanes in edgemore newcastle county it was shut down for hours and police have not identified the victim killed or why he was walking on the highway in the first place. police are looking into whether black ice caused this crash in absecon, new jersey police tell us that the driver of the pickup was driving northbound when he lost control and slammed into a bank of trees. the driver was transported to

the hospital for a number of injuries. philadelphia police say they have captured a man wanted for at least 10 robberies. the u.s. marshal's fugitive task force aed rested this man cartel wright. he was hiding in a home on college avenue in north philadelphia wright was wanted for robbing fast food restaurants and pharmacies, police say he robbed the same right aid four times and is wanted for a carjacking, and that he was taken into custody without incident. now to a developing story out of north philadelphia chopper 6 hd was over the scene of a raid of an apparent stolen goods stash house along the 2400 block of openal street this was an operation carried out with merion police with the help of local authorities, they recovered three truck loads of

electronics, clothing and home appliances and more. we'll have more on a live report in our next half our of "action news" at noon. delaware county authorities announced charges against this man. john corcoran he is behind bars with a connection of a string of arsons, now they have accused corcoran of sexually assaulting at least 14 children and now he faces 100 counts from victims ranging from 8 to 14 years old. and the district attorneys office is holding a news conference shortly to detail the case. and we'll have more on "action news" and online at 6abc.com. firefighters are still on the scene of a massive fire that ripped through at least five buildings near pittsburgh this morning. the blaze started at 4:30 a.m. in homestead allegheny county. at one people firefighters had

islamic militants say that the clock is ticking on the lived of two japanese hostages. the militants posted a warning online and a count down, and japan's prime minister was originally given three days to give the militants, a $200 million ransom. that deadline passed and it's unclear if the two hostages are still alive. saudi arabia's king abdullah, he was an important ally of the united states and was steadfastly committed to countering the influence of rival iran. and president obama praised his efforts to promote peace in the region. is he succeeded by his half

brother who is 79. police fatally shot a woman that walked into a texas police station and then pulled out a knife. long view police say that the woman made threatening moves toward officers in their lobby in the evening, the unidentified woman was pronounced dead at the hospital. a set of 9-year-old twins were left in their new new hampshire home for months with only raman noodles to eat and no working television, they asked their uncle to look after them when they went to africa. they would wake up and ride the bus to school every day and go back to the apartment and every couple of days the uncle would check on them. the parents won't face charges because they truly believed the uncle would care for their twins. a baby from east petersburg,

good news on the job front this noon, pennsylvania's unemployment rate dropped to its lowest rates since march of

melissa is back with a closer look at the wintery mix we'll see into the weekend it's all about timing. >> the good news with this is that it's a storm coming in over the weekend, if you done have to be out you can stay in and watch the precipitation fall. we'll show you stormtracker 6 live double scan showing you that it is dry and quiet across the delaware and lehigh valley,s and no problems with precipitation as we get into tonight as we track it. we'll show you the picture

outside. the action cam and chopper 6 hd high above the sky there in king of prussia, you can see that we have mostly clear sky and plenty of sunshine overhead and sun gives way to increasing clouds as it's day wears on. we track the precipitation that moves up thanks to our nor'easter that is why the winter advisories posted in the lehigh and delaware vallys. the few point is 23 and and the winds south south westd at 6 miles per hour. you get the moisture from the south working its way northward with pressure of 30.30 and falling. and trenton 35 and allentown 33 and beach haven 39 and millville 37 as well. here is satellite 6 along with action radar showing sun to increasing clouds in much of new england, what we are tracking to the south and west, you can see the moisture moving across areas

in the southeast states the area of low pressure just off the gulf coast states the moisture moves in from a southwest to northeast direction and we'll track it for you. here is the problem with the storm system if you are looking for a blockbuster snow storm you'll not find it with this one. there is no real big injection of cold arctic air, you have a blocking high pressure that is certainly not there so with no high pressure to track the cold air at the surface this is more than likely changing to rain in most locations and the moisture off the coast. future tracker 6 showing you 6:00 this evening, it's mostly cloudy if you are stepping out on the town early you'll be okay and if you are driving home from work early this evening, the roads should be dry but as we go through the overnight hours by midnight the snow moving across areas along the i-95

corridor and north and west and mixed precipitation south and east across south jersey and delaware, by 4:00 in the morning, watch what happens in philadelphia you easily and quickly find the change over to rain and all rain for south jersey and delaware but a mixed line setting up in areas north and westd of philadelphia and still snow from the poconos to reading. 6:30 in the morning, rain for philadelphia and areas to the south and east and still the snowfall north and west and the storm system wraps up fairly quickly. there is an icing concern during the predawn area, from easton to quakertown and downingtown and lancaster, we could find a .10 inch of glaze. here is the expected snowfall map, philadelphia 1 to 3 inches of snow a coating to an inch in south jersey and delaware and here is the update from the poconos to lancaster we could find 3 plus inches of snow as
