moving through the northern ohio valley and southern great lakes states. by the time it gets here milder air floods region and it will flip over to rain. just a a limited amount of snow for most areas with this. here's future tracker six. as you make your way to your super bowl gathering and get together it is going to be okay but coming home we will start to see some of the snow flying. some will come down at a pretty good clip. the right around midnight hour between 10:00 o'clock and midnight is when snow picks up in intensity. the pennsylvania turnpike looks like the the dividing line at this point. north of there snow south of there, rain. overnight tonight rain/snow line lifts all the way up in the lehigh valley and poconos. everybody south of there it is all rain. that will continue throughout the midday hour tomorrow. then the arctic front barrels through around two or 3:00 in the afternoon and then temperatures fall off a cliff. we could see a few snow squals with that arctic front similar to what we saw friday afternoon where we see sunshine one minute and next minute you have a coating on the ground because it is snowing so hard. they would be brief if we pick

south/southeasterly direction. that will ultimately get these temperatures above freezing, as the day wears on. that is a big reason why we will see a lot of rain with this and not so much snow. except for the lehigh valley. that is where you will get snow up there. twenty-eight in philadelphia. twenty-eight trenton. twenty-eight wildwood showing 32. here's that storm system again. we have a winter storm warnings extending from iowa all the way east into the poconos, blizzard conditions for chicago, where they are expecting over a foot of snow, some 60 million americans are expected to see at least, 6 inches of snow or more with this system. but for us, here if the delaware valley, as that storm marches east, it will lift up that mild air to the north and that means that snow will be changing over to rain. so presip type looks like this. it is an all snow event for northern lehigh valley and poconos from start to finish. we are expecting snow to transition over to ice and then plane rain after midnight tonight for this area that you see shaded in blue. it includes philadelphia, most of the i-95 corridor and immediate surrounding suburbs. for south jersey and delaware

this is mainly a rain event, little bit of snow or ice at the on set. your time line there has been no big changes later this evening into monday from 5:00 to 8:00 this evening that is when that light snow, wintry mix will begin from west to east. heavier falls while we are sound asleep between one and 7:00 a.m. between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 tomorrow afternoon that is when most of the precipitation should shut off in the form of rain or wintry mix north and west. so snowfall totals look like this. not very impressive south and east but could see a good amount here up in the poke knows. 6 inches plus this shaded area here in purple. the lehigh valley lets say three to 6 inches. allentown right on the 6-inch line. 3-inch line runs from pottstown, through doylestown and into trenton and then that 1 inch line runs right through philadelphia so here's a closer look here at coatsville wayne, one to 3 inches pottstown, doylestown quakertown three to six and then allentown east of the poconos looks like 6 inches plus but mainly rain from that point on to the south.

create some dangerous situations for the morning commute. meteorologist chris sowers is at the "action news" big board with the very latest in accu weather, chris. >> good morning, nydia. i'm more worried about the freezing rain, not necessarily the snow. snowfall accumulations will range three to 6 inches for areas north and west especially lehigh valley but it is that period of ice that you get on top that could create slick spots. here's storm we are watching. lots of snow flying from iowa, east to let's say pittsburgh right now, heavier rain to the south. this area right here, that i am circling this whole area here that is an area that will see at least 6 inches of snow if not more, there is blizzard warnings right now for chicago area, you can see blizzard conditions along this line right here, and then again everything is pulling toward the north, that means it is milder air down here will start to pull to the north as well. that is ultimate liz what will flip us over to rain as this thing gets cranking when it hits the the coast. some twitter followers out there in the chicago area

this is rick, in illinois, this is what it looks like right now. he has half a foot of snow on the ground and still snowing heavily at this point. judy in timly park, four or 5 inches of snow on the ground snowfall rates out there between one and 2 inches an hour. as the storm marches east, winter storm warnings winter weather advisories will go in effect at 7:00 this evening. it will be this area here shaded in pink where we are expecting significant accumulations. for everybody else the snowfall totals will be on the minor side. so, for philadelphia, this is starting to look more less like a nuisance event the in the city itself. all models are leaning that way. north and west we will get upper bucks montgomery counties, lehigh valley and poconos, snow as well as icing could be moderate if not significant. we will talk more about that with the seven day forecast when i come back in a few minutes, guys? >> thanks, chris. freezing temperatures overnight created potentially dangerous conditions in philadelphia after a water main busted. water gushed from a ruptured main here in the 1200 block of

"action news" begins tomorrow at 4:00 a.m. fire fighters in mercer county had to battle a two alarm blaze and elements at a strip mall overnight. it happened here on the 2300 block of spruce street in ewing township just after 4:00 this morning. the fire ripped through the super seven convenient store and then spread to a nearby liquor store. a driver on spruce street saw the fire, and then called 911. the super seven was badly damage, the liquor storm was also damaged by the fire. in one was hurt. no word what sparked that blaze. from our delaware news room fire fighters were called to the scene of the deadly crash in hockessin overnight. police say the driver of the

mercury mountaineer lost control after the vehicle was sideswiped by another koran route 41 north of grays road around two credit 30 this morning. suv careened out of control hit a raised concrete island and overturn. the the roof of the suv hit a tree trapping the driver inside that driver of the suv, was killed instantly. two people in the other car, suffered minor injuries. delaware is developing a new way of reporting school performance. the new accountability system is expected to include two parts. the first section would include proficiency rates as required by the federal government, writing scores and graduation rates. second session will include measures parents might be seeking more school climate surveys, drop out rates attendance and progress on close ago collection gaps. some educators say giving schools letter grade would over simplify measures of whether a school is successful. the same of the former revel casino in atlantic city has been put on hole.

one new hampshire town is taking help from neighbors after a two alarm fire destroyed its entire fleet of snowplows. the blaze was spark in the engine of one of the plow trucks that was housed in the garage in the small town of heinikiner. damages mates are expect to exceed million-dollar. only remaining equipment were two pickup trucks and front end loader. now the state is loaning the town some trucks so it can remove snow, that is coming in just a few days and soon, new hampshire could see another eight to 12 inches from this

and that is our snow maker in the overnight hours and then it will change over to rain by monday morning. but heavy snow, is flying across southern great lakes states and into the northern portions of the ohio valley. area of low pressure riding an arctic front, as it charges east, we will flood region with mild air. cold air may sit in the valleys for a while and we're expecting icing north and west but even there eventually the warm air will start to win out and everything should go over to just plane rain. here's the timing on future tracker, you are heading to your super bowl get together as everything will be all right, cloudy skies maybe a few flurries out in through here but light snow will pick up in coverage and intensity as game getting by the time you you are making your way home from where ever you are heading the the snow will start to fly here. some coming down at a good clip especially west of philadelphia and a north, of the pennsylvania turnpike, and then this thing really getting overnight tonight after midnight when heavier rain arrives but rain/snow line according to this model and now several other forecast

models, lifts so far to the north that it even puts allentown in the rain. first thing tomorrow morning. so snowfall totals before we change over to that wintry mix and rain looks like generally one to 3 inches from lancaster into philadelphia, places like coatsville wayne, one to 3 inches. slushy snow again that will change over to rain. three to six for pottstown reading, kutztown, quake are town doylestown all in the three to 6-inch rain. 6 inches plus for allentown easton and poconos. right up in through here in the wilkes barre scranton area where some of those locations could see over a foot have of snow with this. there will be a thin layer of ice that accumulates on top of that snow. start out as snow go to sleet and freezing rain. that is when problems start to develop from reading kutztown pottstown quakertown and doylestown. so again this is mainly north of the pennsylvania turnpike, and west of center city where we will see this icing. south and east looks like mainly just a rain event. some rush hour impacts. it will be a few impacts later this evening. the this is mainly for when

you are driving home from your super bowl gatherings, there could be slow roadways as light snow develops. the rush hour of concern will be obviously tomorrow morning. especially north and west with the snow covered back roadways icy patches on some of the main arteries here and then as we get into tomorrow evening there could be a few delays, as we see some snow squals push through with the arctic front. mostly cloudy for today snow speculate. 37 degrees is your forecast high, that snow changes over to wintry mix overnight tonight and eventually rain after midnight. 25 degrees outlying suburbs 32 for center city. exclusive seven day forecast tomorrow evening and we could see a few snow squalls with the arctic front as it pushes through. this 40 drops off a cliff later in the evening. temperatures plunge. 24 degrees. that is it for tuesday. wind chills is down in the single digits and wednesday, we will start a lot of it a little bit. we will be up to 42. then another arctic blast arrives thursday and friday, 30 and 26. and saturday quiet partly sunny and 35 degrees.

time for an odd unusual pictures of the week. last weeks blizzard proved to be lots of fun not just for people but for some animals at new england aquarium. this 18 month-old fur seal was caught on camera, playing in the snow. he wasn't alone for long as a few harbor seal friend got in on the fun as well. although they seemed content to stay in the the water there were no concerns about the seal's warmth. the fur seal has one of the thickest skins in the world so he was playing very comfortably in the snow. so, what do you have, who do you have winning today's super bowl, do you have a pick? the fort worth zoo it may not be scientific but one of the salt water crocodiles really put his teeth into his prediction. the the 15-foot crock named salty chose between two whole raw chickens that were suspended over his exhibit. one was painted seahawks green, the the other patriots blue and salty emerged from the water and grabbed, there you can see it, the green

seahawks chicken. the zoo says its animals have correctly predict super bowl winners the last five out of six years. we will see how salty did this year. a pennsylvania candy maker is giving a big kick out of the patriots scandal over deflated footballs. bill sar is has his staff make a chocolate football with a big dent in the side as you can see right there. it is not for sale but he posted it on facebook as a joke. he plans to auction it off and donate all proceeds to charity. he has named it the brady ball that is bradie, to avoid any legal issues. the pictures caption says net weight 13-pound. oops, we meant 11.2-pound. patriots and quarterback tom brady have been accused as you had may already know of using under inflated footballs in the afc championship game. nydia, those ballgames for today's big super bowl game are locked up, until three hours before game time. so, the game balls should be
